I’m a pro-trans blog. I believe in transandrophobia AND transmisogyny, imagine that.

Here’s some things that i believe:

- Trans mascs can be lesbians

- Trans mascs can be butch

- Trans men aren’t inherently evil for being men

- Testosterone isn’t “makes you evil” drug

- Trans women don’t deserve to be misgendered just because you don’t like them (them used because I’m talking about multiple people, woah it’s crazy how the English language works)

- Trans women (and ANYONE) never deserve to die

Everyone's always very keen to forget that Shinigami Eyes wasn't actually developed to mark transphobes in general but to help aid the online safety of trans women specifically, and shockingly enough yeah you're more likely to get marked red if you explicitly refuse to oppose the trans cohort of Men's Rights Activists.

Coming back to this, I decided to browse tags, and, well...

Over 50% of trans men and nonbinary people assigned female have experienced sexual assault.

Trans people in the USA are about 3 times more likely than cis women to struggle accessing abortion related healthcare following abortion bans.

Trans and intersex people are at least twice as likely to attempt a self managed abortion than cis women.

And, I don't have a link at hand, but pregnancy has been used as a tool of forced detransition.

All I'm saying is that I wasn't supposed to still be here. I didn't think I'd see 21. I was quite sure of it, in fact.

Now, I turn 31 in about a week.

I sing in my car at night to the angsty mixed CDs I made as a teenager, but now with a voice that I can feel rumble in my chest precisely where that heavy feeling used to sit like a bag of concrete.

TRANS PEOPLE CONSIDERING SURGERY- READ THIS PLEASE GENUINELY I AM BEGGING YOU IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE

If you are getting gender affirming surgery, especially if it’s your first major surgery, PLEASE be aware that you can become SEVERELY depressed afterwards ESPECIALLY if you have a history of depression or suicidal ideation.

Post op depression is a natural reaction to the crazy mix of hormones your body goes through after major surgery as well as the stress and anxiety of recovery. Think of it like an adrenaline crash, but dragged out longer.

For me it kicked in about 6 weeks after top surgery and the worst of it lasted until about 10 weeks post op. EVERYTHING felt IMPOSSIBLE. None of the skills I’d been practicing worked. I thought everything was going to be bad forever. I didn’t attempt, but I was in the hospital. If it wasn’t for my support system I probably would have attempted.

This is not regret, but it can feel like it. I remain happy about my results to this day (going on six years later).

This is not you failing to maintain your mental health, but it can make you feel like a failure.

Things are not hopeless, but through the haze of this depression they can feel hopeless.

It can be terrifyingly sudden or it can sneak up on you. I didn’t even realize what was going on until after the depression finally passed and my mental health went back to normal.

I am writing this post because nobody told me about this before my top surgery. I was caught completely off guard. For my subsequent surgeries being aware has made all the difference. Being able to treat those symptoms as an expected and normal part of the healing journey has made them far easier to deal with. Because even when my emotions go to dark places I *know* they will pass. I have been able to tell the bad thoughts to take a bad seat and focus on healing.

PLEASE have a plan in place for if this happens. I know that this topic is taboo because of how often our mental health is weaponized against us, but I desperately want every single person getting gender affirming surgery to be aware of, and have a plan for post operative depression.

Common trans misconceptions (so you don't have to learn the hard way)

Binding won't make you board-flat. There's still mass there, but it will make it less noticeable

You CAN still get pregnant while on T, and you CAN still get people pregnant while on E.

Not all medical professionals are transphobic, but some are and a lot of them are not super informed

The only thing you need to be trans is a gender identity different from the one you were assigned at birth. You don't need dysphoria or hormones or anything, just that.

It doesn't matter how or when you figured it out, your experience is valid!

if i could give one piece of advice to newly transitioning trans men, it's that it's 100% possible to find a community of people (including women!) who don't treat you as a threat, and the people trying to convince you otherwise are not your friends

Also, perhaps, have we considered that it's actually really bad that we treat closeted trans women (and closeted nonbinary people, and frankly cis men too) this way? Like. It's a bad thing that trans women are treated like distrustful monsters for """"being men"""" before coming out by one demographic and then are also treated like distrustful monsters after coming out for being trans by another. That's not a sign of a culture with a healthy relationship with gender in the slightest!!!

Have we considered that treating people as inherently dangerous or distrustful by virtue of their gender alone is in fact, the very gender essentialism that perpetuates radical feminism in our spaces and that is something that we should be working on stamping out?

I am genuinely sorry that people across multiple different identity lines experience this shit because no trans person should be treated like a distrustful monster just by virtue of their gender identity before or after coming out.
