What’s the cruelest thing you’ve ever done to a friend?

Bold of you to assume I have friends other than my gorgeous spouse. The worst thing I’ve ever done to them was make them hike 4 hours in the brutal heat just so I could get a picture of a a Victoria Water Lily. They only bloom for 48 hours, you know. Worth the trip.

It amazes me that plants thrive in this area considering how often we go without sunlight.

I can assure you that Regan and I were both at the top of the class. Well, us and April. But she no longer matters because she threw her life away. The two of us got along well in Med School. We both did not enjoy wasting our lives outside of school partying or killing brain cells and instead focused on being the best that we could be. We just had separate approaches.

Do you still maintain friendships with any of your “frenemies” from grad school?

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with not wanting to party. I didn’t want to party. I’d honestly rather be out in the forest making botanical discoveries then wasting my time talking to any of the students in my class. That’s how I felt about the majority of people I went to school with. But, honestly, would you invite Regan over to game night if you met her casually? And didn’t have a grad school connection?

Everyone avoided me after the “break down.” No. I don’t waste time on false relationships.

The kind of friends where you went to grad school together so you were just stuck together. Only cause all your other friends are probably under achievers or over achievers in different fields and since you’re in grad school and that’s all you have time for its make friends with someone there or suffer the consequences of loneliness. However, since you are going to the same school you are competing against each other for top grades and spots. So it really narrows down to frenemies of the academic kind. An appreciation for the drive that keeps the other going, but if it wasn’t for being stuck together for so long you probably wouldn’t be even consider using the word friend to describe each other.
