Ed + loving Stede for all the things he was always mocked for
I think you could use some weed. And Just Like That || 1x03 “When in Rome”
Inevitable.
From earlier this year…i think…
I lived and worked in a lighthouse at a previous job. There was a thick line painted in a circle around the shack where the fog signal was kept. The line represented how close you could get to the fog signal without experiencing physical harm in the form of eardrums shattering or worse.
Even in the house it was LOUD. Probably the loudest thing I have ever experienced but at a normal, predictable interval. You would begin to time your sentences with little pauses with the rest of the lighthouse crew so you would talk like this while making your………..HORN…………. tea and then carry on talking because you knew when it would go off. It rattled the walls and the dishes in our cabinet.
At least one girl had died there. They kept photos of her everywhere “in honor of her sacrifice” because she had decided to take the winter watch alone and died in a storm where bounders the size of mini vans had been lifted out of the ocean and left scattered across the island, to say nothing of the ice chunks. People weren’t allowed to be alone on the watch after that.
One day a dead moose washed up on shore and it took my entire crew all day but we managed to rig up a line to hang it up to dry because we thought having a moose skeleton in the house would really spice the living room up a bit. It did. Weird shit happens when six of you are left alone, like ALONE ALONE, no cell reception, no wifi, just a radio to contact the real world and not a lot of reason to do that. People don’t go on lighthouse jobs if they want to stay connected, I’ve found.
That said Id do it all again, I really do treasure those days

an incomplete list of things i will never forget from fleabag (2019)
-the priest’s face when he rips open the curtain of the confessional
-the symbolism of the golden statue and the way fleabag puts her chin on it in 2x06
-when the priest can’t reach the hidden alcohol and calls on god to help him and then it falls into his hands
-the priest laughing delightedly when the painting falls off the wall after fleabag says she’s an atheist vs. the pure terror on his face when the painting falls in the church
-when jake walks up to fleabag and very intensely says “tell her to leave him”
-when fleabag mixes up talking to us and talking to the priest and says “his beautiful neck” out loud
-the eye contact the priest makes with fleabag before he says “we’re going to have sex, aren’t we”
-THE FACT THAT THE PRIEST IS THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN SEE THE FOURTH WALL BREAKS I WILL NEVER BE OVER THIS
-“where did you go?” “what?” “you just...went somewhere” (SCREAMS)
-when fleabag finds the priest drunk in the church and she glances toward us and he follows her gaze without saying anything (he says something every other time he catches her)
-“no one’s asked me a question in forty-five min-“ “so what do you do?”
-the entire scene with belinda at the bar
-when fleabag leaves her cafe in the care of the businessman and she comes back and he’s wearing the apron and then takes it with him
-“the only person i’d run through an airport for is you”
-“i love you.” “it’ll pass.”
-when she waves to us as she leaves
Potions lesson back in 1971!
[clutches my pearls] Trans people in 1921?!??! But I thought trans people were trend of today’s youth!
I’d like to add my great great aunt Flora!
Y'all wanna know why we don’t see or hear about trans people from that era?
That’s because that picture was taken at what is known in its native language as Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, it is the place where the first trans healthcare was developed, where the term transsexual was coined.
Do you want to know what happened to the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft?
It was the victim of the very first Nazi book burning. Their teachings were outlawed and their books destroyed. Their leaders - such as Magnus Hirschfeld - were criminalized and exiled, if not outright murdered.
The fascists exterminated not just a generation of trans people, but they erased our history from the books almost entirely. It took us almost a century to get back to where we are now.
We’ve always been here, but our future is not guaranteed. We have to fight for our survival, because it’s happening again.

This is such an important and genuinely terrifying post. I could completely go off on the rise of anti-science, but for now I’ll just add: it isn’t just boomers that get deceived. This is a warning to all of us.
Pay ATTENTION to what you are being told. If you think you cannot be deceived, you leave yourself open to deception. Question, doubt, research research research. Learn about your personal biases, dig up any subconscious cognitive dissonance. Keep an eye on your mind.
It needs to be stressed that biases, not a lack of intelligence, is very much the issue here. Being aware of the need to fact check yourself is key: Intelligence won’t protect you from bad or unhealthy mental states, or keep you safe from cults of any sort. Intelligence will just make it easier for you to rationalize and attempt to justify the malformed tools you’ve taken/been given to yourself and others. You need to be wise enough to challenge yourself.
As a cult survivor, this is lethally accurate.
Co-signed completely, and… this is why I put so much stock in emotion as a check on reason. It’s VERY VERY EASY to wind your intelligence around bullshit and not realize you’ve gone wrong because you think you have “answers” for every “bullshit objection.”
[Image Description: A thread of tweets by @/pookleblinky which read: “My mom got a pulse oximeter. She asked me to put a mask on and check to see how my blood oxygen lowers. I put a mask on at 98% oxygenation, and it stayed at 98% while I told her that as a former nurse she should fucking know better.” “She took tests on this stuff. She had thick textbooks on this stuff. She got hired to know this stuff. She got paid to know this stuff. She worked with people who spent hours wearing masks. Youtube literally wiped out 15+ years of being a medical professional.” “I could maybe get a semiliterate shitstain thinking that. But she was literally a nurse, paid for years to understand things like blood oxygen, blood sugar. Paid to wear masks for hours at a time if necessary.” “Her brain is so rotted by nazi youtube that I wouldn’t trust her to put a fucking bandaid on a papercut anymore.” “It’s wild that 8+ hours a day of youtube can so completely wipe out a *literal career* of medical knowledge. A whole career, just turned into a shit-covered hamster spinning on a wheel in someone’s skull.” “Her oximetry reading is about 92%, due to her COPD. If it dips 7% lower she needs to be hospitalized. She will, absolutely, die when she gets covid. Which she will, because she can no longer understand the germ theory of disease.” “Years ago, she made clear that she no longer believes in evolution. ‘But you were a nurse. You know why people need to take a full course of antibiotics. You took tests on it. You saw what happens when people don’t. You have seen MRSA.’ ‘that’s just micro-evolution.’” “I cannot overstate that she was an RN. She took college courses, she got hired, she got paid, to understand the basics of modern medicine. She’s smelled C Diff. She’s intubated people. She’s kept charts. All of that knowledge and experience is gone.”
“It’s gone, as surely as if she had alzheimers. It’s been replaced with whatever nonsense the last angry guy in sunglasses screaming at his camera from his driver’s seat screamed.” “And this is someone who was *paid* to understand basic shit about human health. Imagine what youtube autoplay is doing to boomers with no medical degree or experience.” End Description.]
