playbrideβ:
hey guys. if you go to the supermarket todayβ¦ can you smile at the people working there please? just a little smile? maybe a thank you- who knows. they are being snapped at and met with so much intolerance even though they keep us afloat. same for your doctors, nurses, health care workers. truck drivers. people in pharmacies. gas stations. those who keep providing for us and look out for us. just a little smile.Β i saw a lady snap at a grocery store employee today and it was nasty. so please donβt be nasty? they are doing their best.
THIS.
I work in customer service in food retail and justβ¦wow. WOW.
People are genuinely going insane. Many stores have limits to paper products right now and are having to enforce it when people pick fights. It is not going to change the answer. People are making scenes over the smallest things and taking out corporate policies on the store level employees. We are just doing as we are told and trying to make sure everyone can get what they need. [ But also. Do you really need 3 cases of bath tissue? If you do I think you need to talk to your doctor about something elseβ¦. ]
Places are only closing if they have a high volume of public traffic that is higher than the recommended amount by the CDC [ 50+ gatherings] . So, yes, many restaurants are closing temporarily. But itβs okay. They are doing this to protect YOU.Β So while the dining room in Chick-Fil-A is closed, you can still use the drive-thru. Though I recommend not going out for food because leaving your house and being in contact with other people is WHY this is spreading. The point of the self-isolation is to NOT BE IN CONTACT WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE.Β You can still eat and water is not being turned off so Iβm not sure why people are hurricane level preparing for that too.. but fun fact :
Grocery stores are going to be open through all of this.
Our trucks are still coming in. There may be a lack of a few things but that is mostly due to people buying them in such huge volumes all at once. Weβll get some in stock again soon.
Just remember that the people ringing up or bagging your groceries or cutting your meats or restocking the shelves are people too. We are all working around the clock to make sure we have things on our shelves. I know at my store/chain we are cleaning registers every 30 minutes with disinfectant. All carts are being cleaned before being handed to a customer.Β
Most of us have been called in every day to help deal with the mass volume of people coming in. We have not had a day off in over a week. We come in early and stay way later. We donβt know most nights when we are going to get home and just turn around and come back early the next morning. Even with calling a handful of extra people ( PER DEPARTMENT ) each day we are still overwhelmed.
So please donβt yell at people in the food industry right now.Β
We are overwhelmed, we are stressed, we are doing 300% of the work we are staffed for, and coming in contact with hundreds more people than normal. Please be patient. Please be kind. Just hearing even one person say βthank youβ goes a long way.
Huge shout out of course to everyone in the medical field that is having to go in to work and deal with this situation.
And above everything else, WASH YOUR HANDS
