the thing about sports anime is that you repeatedly hear that its really gay from everyone whose watched it and youre always sitting there like "they gotta be exaggerating, theres no way its that gay" and for about five minutes of the first episode, youre right, its not actually super gay, and then the narrative foil gets established and you go "oh, oh it is that gay"

I think it'd be Haru, honestly. For Rin, it was love at first swim, but once he broke through Haru's walls, he was completely enamored by Rin.

I mean you see it constantly how much Haru came to treasure him after they became friends and how much their falling out(s) affected him. In the period from middle to high school and during s1 especially He's constantly recalling Rin's smile and his promises.

And hell, every memory he has of Rin is tinted with a pinkish hue with cherry blossoms fluttering in the wind lmao.

Not to say it's not intense for Rin also, we've all seen how much he treasures his bond with Haru as well. But yeah, I think Rin fell first & Haru fell harder

haruka nanase will always be the funniest sports anime protagonist in my eyes bc the crux of the show and the driving force of the cast is his magical autism. his connection to water is literally just his stim. in the show haru never gives a reason for his love of water beyond “i like how it feels”

he doesnt even give a shit about the actual sport and only chooses to give a shit bc of his separate love for his 17 boyfriends. and those 17 boyfriends will fight to the ends of the earth to explain why haru’s swimming will bring world peace end world hunger and it makes everybody horny immediately

rin matsuoka who has had ambitions to be an olynpic swimmer since before he knew his ABCs literally saw some kid stimming and without knowing anything abt him first was like “omg that guys going to be my consort at tje top of the world” and haru responds with “i hope your bike falls into the river with you in it”

WAAAAH, there Is sooo many great pieces of them two but the short answer would be: this one

I loooooove the poses, the color contrast (I WANT TO EAT THAT BLUE) and how gentle Haru is being here 🥹 I really think we can appreciate a lot of their dynamic in the first season and how they both save each other. And Rin is crying but his tears they get confused among the bubbles it's just AAAAAAH amazing in every aspect.

Now if we are being more expanded, i would say this one is also a fav of mine:

Kind of the same appeling of the first one but the hand posture just makes me INSANE, Haru is halfway to touching Rin but there is still some hesitation and AAKDKSLDJSLF, its makes me feel so many things (Especially if we consider the complement of this image from when they were children)

Anyway i LOVEEEEE THISSSS, i think I just love Haru looking at Rin fondly ahdhjsjssk , but I swear is not only for ship reasons but because It is in Haru's gaze that we can find his most sincere feelings and I think these arts are a subtle way to really tell how important is Rin in Haru's life and how they admire eachother in equal parts 🥺

5 things your character can't do while speaking

Choke. Just think about it, seriously. Think about what choking is and imagine speaking while it’s happening. That would fuckin’ hurt, man.

Hiss. Look, it’s just not possible, okay? No matter how “evil” you want your character to seem.

Snarl. Animals snarls. The Beast from Beauty and the Beast snarls. The Hulk snarls. You know who doesn’t snarl? PEOPLE WHEN THEY’RE SPEAKING.

Shriek. Come on, 99% of the time, “shriek” is not the word you want.Let’s face it: if you put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence, your reader gets the picture. Don’t bring to mind banshees and screaming toddlers.

Sneer. I’m not even going to bother explaining this one. “SNEER” ISN’T EVEN A SOUND.

Choked is not meant to be taken literally, an obstruction in the throat. It means they’re having difficultly speaking, they’re forcing the words out with difficulty. Often used when the character is convulsed in tears or laughter.

Hiss is a low, threatening whisper. Raw, guttural, vicious. It is NOT a literal hiss like an animal, it is a tone of voice that serves the same function. Someone will hiss that they’re going to cut your throat- a message from one person to the other.

Snarl is the same kind of thing. Not literal, it’s a tone of voice that serves the same function. It’s raw and gutteral like a hiss, but more savage than vicious. It’s loud, it’s showy, it’s intimidating. It’s very alpha male, big man, look at how fucking dangerous I am. I’ll take ALL of you on. Even if they’re snarling at one person in particular, nobody better back them up or they’re gonna get fucked up too.

Shriek. Come on, seriously? We’ve all heard people shriek either in fear or outrage. High pitched, loud, out of control, feminine. Men can shriek, but it’s funny and emasculating. Think angry italian women throwing pots and pans or ladies on tables who just saw a mouse.

Sneering is contempt whether it’s a facial expression or a tone of voice or both. There are a hundred different ways to sneer with your voice, but it all adds up to the same thing.
