Duck Prints Press will be launching our first Kickstarter on July 15th, 2021, and we cannot possibly be more excited for it! yesterday we had a bit of a discussion on whether adam did or didn’t murder that guy so here’s my final take on it. i don’t know why i spent my entire afternoon on this but i did

(also, i know i didn’t cover every type of homicide in this- i did look into it, but none of that information seemed to be relevant enough)

This is brilliant. Seriously, a powerpoint?! Amazing. 

Personally, I’ve always believed that Adam’s actions were self-defense. He had seen Whelk holding the knife to Neeve’s face. Whelk had just threatened his friend with a gun. Whelk had killed another one of his friends. Whelk had tried to kill him! “Whelk pointed the gun at Adam, and, without any ceremony, he pulled the trigger.“

I think Adam Parrish could easily argue that he committed manslaughter in self-defense. Would you let that guy into your safe bubble? I didn’t think so.

I lied

I accidently read Mister Impossible. I only wanted to read a few passages and whoops. I regret reading it. Not because it’s a bad book - it’s not. But because I care about these characters and I don’t want to wait to see how it ends. lol My thoughts - because they aren’t all positive - under the cut.

I struggle seeing how this can end happily for Ronan. He’s always going to be hunted for who he is. He’s always going to be hungry for something bigger than the real world, while at the same time wondering why he can’t fit into that world. He can’t stop being a Dreamer. I just don’t see anyone in his predicament and the headspace he’s in now being able to deal with it all with only one book remaining. 

Also, Maggie’s timelines are the worst. I know it’s only details - but it really makes me struggle with her stories sometimes. I need to know how long Adam suffered not knowing where Ronan was. Did he have break? What did he do? So so many questions.

I know she said TRC and a sweetmetal isn’t actually metal, but I remembered this passage from CDTH.

She [Aurora] shied away from metal, coming suddenly alert when she nearly touched a doorknob or a faucet, before falling dazed once more. ~ Call Down the Hawk (Chapter 19)

BUT I also thought of this immediately when I read this. That mask....

This comment comes from a purely fandom standpoint and not a critique of the book*.

Ronan, you passionate, ridiculously overly-fucking-dramatic Scorpio asshole! Adam Parrish didn’t know if you were BROKEN UP or if he was ever going to hear from you again! He had to resort to doing something - god knows what - dodgy to get intelligence reports to keep tabs on you. GET YOUR DAMN SHIT TOGETHER, RONAN LYNCH. I LOVE YOU BUT SO HELP ME GOD....

* because I haven’t read MI. I’ve read all the spoilers and I breezed through some passages. I’m not in the right headspace to invest time into something rn that will just break my heart. The spoilers already did that enough for now. And I have a WIP to finish. I’ll read book 2 and 3 after 3 comes out.

Ronan put his jacket over his head to drown out the sound and muffle his building nerves. He could feel his pulse thudding in his jaw. He could hear it in his ears. It sounded like everyone else’s heartbeat, he thought. Just like Adam’s heart when his head was resting on his chest. Ronan wasn’t that different. Well, he could seem not that different. He could move to follow the guy he loved, like anyone else. He could live in a city, like anyone else. It could work. 

He began to dream.

It’s going to be the cool thing to denounce and degrade the people who shared Mister Impossible spoilers and those who consumed them.

Well.... eff that. Because of the trauma of the last few years - both pandemic related and individual situations related to me - my anxiety is in the DANGER ZONE. Knowing things about this book seriously eased my anxiety about it. I will be able to wait now for it and actually enjoy it when it’s released.

If you don’t enjoy spoilers, good for you. Don’t read them, block the tags, and move on. Let OTHER people do their thing.

So, thank you very much to those who have shared them. No matter what anyone else says - you’re my hero! You took one thing off my anxiety pile and for that I’m grateful. AND thank you for tagging them appropriately. Spoiling people who don’t want to be spoiled is shitty - don’t do it!

Let’s try to act like a community

Coming out of hiding for a moment* to ask the TRC/CDTH fandom to please don’t tell people how to feel about the book. Some people will be disappointed, some will be happy. Let people feel the way they feel. Sure, tell people not to attack Maggie on twitter BUT don’t tell them they shouldn’t be disappointed or whatever or try to explain to them how they don’t understand what the book is about. It’s condescending and thoughtless. 

Also, if you are gleeful that other people are disappointed or sad, you are not what’s great about fandom. I’m not talking people happy for THEIR thing. I’m talking about being happy that someone else isn’t. Also, you get blocked for that behavior in my world FYI.  * I swear to all that is holy that I will finish ‘Stranger Than Angels.’ I’ve rewritten the last few parts so many times (I swear my last draft was saved as ‘STA vOMG NOT ANOTHER REWRITE’) because something just isn’t right. I finish my Bachelor’s program in one week (!!!!!) and I will have so much time to devote to finishing it!
