"I'm so tired of you."
Mean even as she knows it won't work on him, Mary turns her gaze to the skyline, the pale pink to blood orange to burning, blackening red. Even with the sun going down, it's still the dog days of summer, and somewhere uptown something is burning, the acrid smell of dripping plastic and melting hair catching on the wind off the bay.
"You hate this place. But you just can't leave any of it alone, can you?" She doesn't look at him, not even a sideways glance; her shoe scuffs the very edge of the balcony under the glass barrier, toe swiping at open air.
"Just keep coming back, asking questions. I'm tired of telling you things."
The words bring a small smile to the corners of the other's mouth. He's dressed more casually today, although its more to blend in rather than anything else. He hums a little, growing contemplative at her question before giving a small shrug.
"Its not that I hate it. In fact, Gotham's one of the more interesting places I've been to." Its not a lie. He likes the unpredictability of the city. What he doesn't like is that most people in the city are as covert as he is. "Gotham's one of the places where it doesn't matter who or what you were in the past, but what you can do now and in the future."
James puts his hands in the pockets of his slacks and gives another, almost smaller, shrug. "You don't have to tell me anything, you know? You could tell me to piss off."
No one was watching them. He had made certain of that. It had taken him years - decades, really - to get to this point, mentally, where he had been able to manipulate his handlers and escape. His name, his identity, all that he'd once been, had been stolen from him long ago, but what the Soldier did know was that he didn't belong here. Broken from their control, on the very edge of Russian territory, he'd sent out a message in the only codes he knew - old WWII codes that only a handful of organizations would have been able to crack due to the group who had used them all those years ago. It had been a simple message, and coordinates - nothing much to reveal, but it had been a plea for help, and a warning. The Soldier knew things that the intelligence organizations of the world did not - things not about Russia, but about the dark, hidden machinations of the parasite growing and flourishing within all governments. He was a product of that, and he wanted to be free of his tormenters. It was a distant airport; hardly in use - perfect for this. He had not worn the black usually outfitted to him - too obvious against the white landscape around them. Instead, he wore shades of white and grey, his long hair hidden under the hood of a parka, his telltale arm hidden under goosedown and leather gloves stolen in his weeks long flight. Under it all, he was armed - but if this British agent was as good as he hoped he was, then they could help each other. When he noticed that he had been spotted, he turned his head and nodded, directing him to the building. He began to walk parallel to the agent, rather than approaching him directly, and slipped inside the building and away from the chill. The building had been secured too - the Soldier was no fool. Inside, he waited, tense as always, ready to run at the first sign of a trap. He hoped that this was not a trap.
A fierce wind blows as he gets closer to the building, causing him to draw his coat closer to his body. Temperature regulation was still not something his body did entirely well, and the whipping winds did little to assist on that front. He shoved a hand in the pocket of his coat, gloved fingers curling around a tightly folded piece of paper. He has a few folders in his bag, settled on top of his clothing with several stamps denoting the most important pieces of information.
There's a small hesitation as he pushes open the door, quickly moving inside as he goes to the room he'd seen the other enter. James exhales, unfurls the scarf from around the neck, and sets down his items on the table. He breathes through his nose as his chest twitches again, making him take a second longer than he'd like to catch his breath.
"You can relax," he states, the corners of his mouth twitching up in something close to a smile. "We received news of a recent attack on a facility outside of Severnaya in Siberia. Early reports indicate the attack came from inside the facility itself." James rubs the back of his neck before opening his bag. He pulls out the folders and opens them, indicating the pictures within. "The small... hiccup with that intel is that the only people with access to the facility are members of Russia's Space Division."
He doesn't know how Russian operatives take to learning that attacks on any part of their country come from inside, so he remains wary of the other's reaction. He wasn't sure what M had been trying to get at first, when she asked him to go this route of investigation rather than going to Severnaya himself. He vaguely remembers the discussion he'd had with his surgeon, then the orders he'd received that he knew M wouldn't entirely like following.
"So far, we haven't received any word of survivors, but we did learn the nature of the attack was an electromagnetic pulse. It knocked out the entirety of the communications within the Severnaya facility, perhaps stunting the projects there going forward."

"Even if I did make it," Mary says, leaning forward to rest her elbows on the desk, cupping her chin in open palms, "why should I tell you who I gave it to?"
She does know the doll, though she's been playing dumb — not touching it, where it lies between the ink blotter and the lamp, thinking of finger prints and touch DNA, all the spooky terms her lawyer throws out. She knows the silver, glinting eye socket, the almost frightening black iris leading down into the hammer mechanism in the back of the head, tucked away beneath a weft of hair. All the places that had burned her fingertips and sent sparks flying at her workbench.
"What's in it for me?"
He has several moments where he wonders what had drawn him to Gotham, but the most blatant one is staring him in the face. He'd been of the mind that appearances are more than deceiving, as it was something that he relied on several times throughout his own life. James adjusts the gloves on his hands, although he normally avoids them, as he shifts how the doll lays on the table.
"Amnesty." James raises an eyebrow as he looks at her. He knows that Dent's going to have his head if he offers that, but he can go above the man's head with a simple offer to one of the families. "A plea deal, if you cooperate. Dent's been on your tail for weeks, Ms. Dahl." His phone vibrates in his pocket and his brow furrows, but he ignores it. Its not the day for his dose, but he fears something else is trying to contact him.
James delicately sits the doll up, keeping his hands away from the back of the doll's head. He lowers his voice a little, giving a small laugh as he glances over his shoulder. He peels one of the gloves off his hands and pulls his phone out of his pocket, unlocking it and pulling up the message he'd received. "Message from Maroni. He wants to make sure you're set loose."
@babydxhl contd from here
Jaw working, James considers Mary's question. It was something he'd grappled with, especially when he was younger and dealing with his own brand of punishment. The truth of the matter was he kind of liked seeing people get hurt. Never enough to worry about getting in severe trouble or a harsh reprimand, or even suspension from field duty when he got older. Sometimes it was something he could handle by going to a shooting range, or even losing himself in another's embrace for a time.
"If I didn't enjoy watching people get hurt, or hurting others, I suppose I have made a poor career choice."
He wasn't unsympathetic, nor was he anything close to being considered a sociopath. Still, there was something almost a little satisfying about being able to punch someone. Sure, his preference had always been shooting to kill, but he never would shy away from getting his hands a little bloodied. Blue eyes flick to the bodyguard and he gives an appreciative nod.
"There's also something to be said about competence, you know?"

“They’re never subtle when they plan these parties, are they?”
“No. Never subtle.” she shakes her head, feeling a smile creeping at her lips.
"I had a colleague who would put small bowls of the Hershey's Kisses under the mistletoe, and more people were amenable to that." That was one moment he appreciated Villiers, although there were none that followed.

If Bond ever talks about M in your character’s presence, he considers them a friend. If he starts talking about his past, its the utmost display of trust. He’s giving your character a piece of himself that he usually doesn’t talk about, wanting to play it close to his chest. His only thing about that is that it isn’t something he gives out lightly. If someone betrays his trust after that, Bond will go out of his way to never associated with that person again. No one can blacklist a person like a man trained in espionage.

“I don’t need you following me into my office. I do need SOME privacy, Mr. Bond.” she replies quietly.
He gives a soft chuckle, then inclines his head. "Yes, ma'am." He heads to the door before he pauses. "My former boss would have loved you, much to the chagrin of other members of your government."

Its bitterly cold as he steps off the airplane onto the tarmac, almost losing his footing as he makes contact with ice hidden under snow. The still-healing incisions at his chest pull and his stomach turns, making him almost regret his decision. It was the first thing M had asked him. It was his first real mission after getting his double-oh status, but fuck if he wasn't regretting it. He adjusts his hold on his bag and starts walking away from the plane, gaze scanning the area in an attempt to find his contact.
He wants to fight the feeling that someone is watching him, but he feels a set of eyes bore into him as he catches the sight of his contact bundled against the Russian winter weather.

she’s positioned in the backseat of the Beast, the long car amongst others that belonged to the Presidents motorcade, hands clasped tightly in her lap. it was a simple initiative, proposed by Director Emera Hayes who had taken the position as DIrector of the FBI after the attack on the Capital a year earlier. when the door opens and James Bond slides in opposite her, she gives a subtle nod for the car to begin moving. “The Director of the FBI could not be here. But I do have the head of the CIA at the White House. I wanted to meet you personally first.” she leans forward, holding out a leather-clad hand. “I appreciate MI6′s participation in this. The intelligence community will benefit greatly from our cooperation. The Prime Minister agrees with me on this…” at least.
“from my understanding, this was meant to happen during your predecessor’s time. everything else had been in place, it was just a matter of shifting around dates.” he shakes her hand, the barest smile quirking up at the corners of his mouth. m had wanted to foster international relations further, but it had been tied in bureaucratic tape until the minister came around to it. “the minister wasn’t forthcoming about specifics, which did frustrate someone... but that is beyond my pay-grade.” he got along well enough with mallory, but he wasn’t going to be going out to the pub with him. he needed to keep things moderately cordial, although he knew that performing well meant he got more time in the field. bond does his job well, but he’s not the sharpest instrument they have. he’s blunt, and knows that its part of what makes him good in the field. “i assume the cia’s been looped in to the growing cells we’ve noticed out of russia and the middle east.”
luposcainus:
Nice name. Caspian made a bow. “ It’s nice to meet you Mr. Bond.” He says while taking a sip of his hot chocolate. The werewolf prince wondered why SHIELD would want to check on him?
To see if he has gotten on the evil side? Caspian rolled his eyes at that thought. He was not someone to be evil, nor he has intentions of being a villian. He raised a brow. Why would Nicky Fury be interested in a man like him? “ really ? why would nick fury be interested in that?” he says. the werewolf takes a sip little sips.
Now he does not have any hatered for the man. Infact he has met the man couple of times during the Avenger’s first mission against Loki and then again during that Ultron fight. Caspian has respect for the man. “ I mean, I am not that special.”
The pseudo-SHIELD agent gives a small chuckle and gently motions for a waitress. He orders a coffee, with cream and two sugars, and gives a small shrug. “Fury wants to make sure you’re in good hands.” Bond rubs the back of his neck and leans forward a little. “With the rest of the Avengers in America, its easy for him to keep track of them. Damage control, if you will.”
James leans back then, scanning the menu again before gently resting a hand on the table. “He’s not making you go to New York, but he feels its best if you have an agent with you over here.” He’s basically a liaison, but its not exactly the worst position.

❛ Maximoff? Say, you wouldn’t happen to be looking for Wanda, would you? Oh, she and Vision moved out months ago! Not really sure why, just packed up and left with her boys. Is she in some sort of trouble? ❜
“She’s not in trouble, per se. I was told that she might be causing some trouble, but I fear that information was faulty.” He really wants to strangle whoever sent him here. “Forgive me, ma’am, for not introducing myself. You can call me James.”

holiday open ( lawrence )
It had been such a long while since he’d celebrated any holiday. With the beast raging within, he’d sealed himself away from relationships. Now, it seemed so different. Things had changed a bit for the better this year. “It’s been a long, long while since I’ve had a merry Christmas. What about you?”
“Five years. Old friend kidnapped me, whisked me away to celebrate with her and her family in St. Petersburg.” He didn’t fight Natalya that time, but she did swear that she’d rope him into more intensive activities if he didn’t come along. So, it was still somewhat of a choice that he had made on his own.
