The shock at having received a letter via the muggle post about the very imminent arrival of her parent had worn off, but Arin was still at a loss of what to do.  She knew her mother sent it via the muggle post so as to catch her more of guard. The ongoing lie about how busy she was and how many people she saw on a regular basis in a social setting would come out if she wasn’t able to find someone, or someones, willing to help her out.  Deciding to go on a mission, she set out to find a friend or acquaintance who would help her continue to lie to her parents.  

As she got to her destination, she sighed and looked around, hoping to find a familiar face.  It took a moment, but eventually it happened.  Taking another deep breath, she crossed over to them, “Hi.  I know it’s been a while, but I’m going to get right to it.  How opposed are you to assisting with a ruse.  Or a lie if you prefer a more solid truth.”

     “  what’s  it  about  ?  can’t  go  around  tricking  people  if  you  don’t  have  a  story  to  trick  ‘em  with.  ”  skyler  was  no  stranger  to  the  act  of  deception,  even  if  was  just  for  her  housemates,  but  she  would  never  turn  down  the  offer  of  a  lifetime  just  to  do  good  in  the  world.  of  course,  she’s  more  of  the  mellow  student  when  it  came  to  their  robes  and  hogwarts  houses,  but  when  she’s  out  in  the  world,  the  jokester  in  her  comes  rushing  through.  “  i’m  in,  but  i  gotta  know:  what’s  in  it  for  me  ?  ”

REPLYING TO ▸ JAVIER.

             DIAGON ALLEY seemed to be the place where javi was usually found this summer. he spent more time there than in any other place, really. despite his parents’ worries about the cauldron heists and his safety, javi promised his parents that he would attempt to be more wary and careful. as an extra precaution and to soothe them, he brought along his husky, loki. loki wasn’t big yet,since javi had gotten him not even two months ago, but he was able to follow commands and loki could get aggressive. he sat outside of florean fortescue’s ice cream parlour with loki sitting contently on his lap, while he read a mystery novel on the table. the male looked up when he heard loki barking to get his attention and offered the other a smile. “hey,” he greeted  the other while rubbing loki’s head comfortingly until the puppy quieted down. “sorry about that… i was er, reading. how are you doing?”

     “  no  worries,  i  get  it.  he’s  cute,  though.  i  like  him  lots.  ”  she  beamed  at  him  and  loki,  scrunching  her  nose  up  in  delight.  she  spent  almost  too  much  time  at  diagon  and  alley  and  zonko’s  joke  shoppe  was  not  helping  her  case  much.  she’s  been  fond  of  this  place  ever  since  she  stepped  foot  here  first  when  she  was  seven  and  was  immediately  intrigued  by  everything  around  her.  she  was  still  quite  amazed  every  time  she  comes  back.  “  i’m  doing  well,  though,  javi.  not  too  busy  with  the  quibbler  nowadays  so  i’ve  got  time  on  my  hands.  mind  if  i  sit  ?  ”

“well, if you need backup or someone just to be there as support– i can be there, if you need it or anything. i hope it all works out.” briar-rose offered, just because upon hearing it she thought it was outrageous, and that something definitely needed to happen. “maybe not, but i want to though; nobody deserves something like that happening to them and ruining their day. so what better way to cheer up after a rude witch than ice cream? i know no better way. i just want to help in someway, and to make up for how riddiclous of an experience you had. you got it, to florean’s it is then– what’s your favorite kind of ice cream?”

     “  backup  sounds  so  much  more  intense  than  i  originally  would  anticipate,  but  i  do  too.  i  don’t  want  anything  too  bad  to  happen,  even  though  she  might  really  deserve  it.  thanks,  though  !  ”  skyler  cheerfully  added,  knowing  that  briar-rose  meant  it.  what  did  she  ever  do  to  deserve  such  good  friends  ?  “  she  knew  i  wasn’t  gonna  take  any  of  it,  and  knows  just  how  much  better  i  can  do  in  a  store  like  that.  but  ice  cream  ?  just  makes  it  all  the  more  worth  it.  chocolate  chip  cookie  dough,  please  !  ”

“it is, i’m surprised i can’t believe that either.” briar-rose still couldn’t believe it, it definitely wouldn’t work to be mean to customers.. they wouldn’t want to come back which isn’t good for business. “i say you do whatever you think is best. but you definitely need to talk to the owner or someone higher up about that too because that shouldn’t be allowed.” while she honestly wasn’t sure that she would do anything, or what she would do in that situation. “alright then come on! ice cream it is. on me, for what you had to deal with.”

      “  oh,  yeah,  they  definitely  got  a  howler  from  me  coming,  just  wait.  i’ll  get  there  eventually,  just  gotta  make  sure  i  sound  as  displeased  so  that  i  at  LEAST  get  free  tops  for  the  new  line.  ”  it  seemed  like  a  flawless  plan,  but  skyler  just  wasn’t  sure  how  to  execute  such  a  thing  without  fucking  up.   she’ll  just  have  to  wait  and  see.  “  you  really  don’t  have  to  !  gosh,  it  was  just  a  rude  witch  was  all.  nothing  i  can’t  handle.  but...  if  we’re  talking  florean’s  then  deal  !  ”

   now that phoenix could relate to. for a witch who’d never even been kissed before, she often wondered when and where she might eventually meet mrs. right. she’d been pretty preoccupied with school and quidditch but now what excuse did she have ?  none.  “i get that.” she smiled sympathetically. “it kind of feels like cheating, skipping to the end to find out what’s coming … but when i was in muggle primary, i used to do that.” she blushed. “the answers were in the back of the book and i was terrible at long division. not my fault ! “

      “  is  it  bad  if  i  say  i  wanted  to  get  flaky  results  to  keep  dreaming  of  what  my  future  would  be  like  ?  i  mean,  of  course  i  would  wanna  know  my  wedding  day  and  the  whole  lot  but  it’s  just  more ... exciting  without  it,  i  guess.  ”  she  giggled  at  the  story,  and  made  a  whole  fit  just  struggling  to  breathe  normally  again  before  recomposing  herself  with  a  smile.  “  oh,  those  must’ve  been  the  days...  say,  is  it  true  that  in  muggle  primary  you  could  SLEEP during  class  ?  ”

“..oh wow.” briar-rose says in shock, she couldn’t believe a saleswoman would act that way towards a customer or to anyone. it was about as unprofessional as one could be, and she was speechless. the eagle couldn’t believe her ears. “that’s horrible i can’t believe she acted like that. that’s so unprofessional.. and horrible. i can’t say i blame you too much for that, or for not going back. i also would have taken my business elsewhere, probably told other people i know not to go there too.” there’s a shake of her head, as she gives a sympathetic smile. “i’m sorry, that happened though i hope it hasn’t ruined your entire day though.”

          “  yeah,  tell  me  about  it.  ”  she  wasn’t  going  to  fight  with  the  woman  right  then  and  there,  but  the  store’s  upper  management  were  going  to  learn  a  few  choice  words  skyler  had  with  her.  “  it’s  a  surprise  she’s  still  there,  honestly.  people  i  know  would’ve  already  told  the  daily  prophet  for  sure.  not  front  page  material,  but  definitely  good  enough  for  a  foot  note.  ”  with  a  wave  of  her  hand  and  a  smile  on  her  face,  the  ravenclaw  waved  it  off  like  nothing.  “  it’s  nothing  a  little  ice  cream  can’t  fix.  ”

       “add place?” phoenix frowned. by the sounds of things, it sounded like the psychic skyler was seeing was using some kind of template when she talked to all of her customers. it was probably easy … everyone wanted to know what their future looked like, or if they’d find love, so it was easy to prey on those who were too trusting. phonenix was one of those people so she could empathize with skyler’s plight. though if the girl believed it, she wasn’t about to suggest otherwise.  “well. that’s certainly … unorthodox.” 

       “  i  didn’t  really  have  high  hopes  but  hey,  at  least  if  she  could  somewhat  see  into  the  future,  i’d  take  that  over  nothing.  i’m  ready  to  meet  my  prince  charming.  or  cinderella.  whichever,  doesn’t  really  matter  to  me.  ”  a  shrug  and  a  sheepish  half-smile  was  all  skyler  could  offer,  for  she  wouldn’t  have  wasted  her  time  if  she’d  just  listen  to  everyone  telling  her  how  much  of  a  joke  divinity  really  was  if  money  was  involved.  “  tell  me  about  it.  karma  got  her,  though.  i  think.  ”

     winnifred blinked momentarily, shaking her head in surprise at the younger witch, “merlin, skyler,” she laughed, “you’re gonna have me goin’ ‘round a twist if ya keep talkin’ like that … though i do like t’think that everyone’s gotata purpose or somethin’ along those lines … i’d hate t’think that life is meaningless in any way.”

       “  thank  you  ---  i  totally  aspire  to  sounding  like  the  local  nutjob  nowadays.  ”  she  shrugged,  smug  smile  on  her  face.  one’s  not  usually  proud  of  things  like  that  but  then  again,  skyler’s  not  just  an  average  witch.  “  it’s  all  hypothetical,  anyway.  just  something  to  think  about,  i  guess.  life  isn’t  always  supposed  to  seem  meaningless,  sure,  but  that  doesn’t  mean  it’s  going  to  be  perfect  like  some  wix  make  it  out  to  be.  ”

  “i just want to get this last year over and done with.”  books were stacked high in the witch’s arms ;  the letter sent from hogwarts had included a book list that was nearly double what it had been the year before.  as far as she was concerned, enough had been crammed into her mind over the past six years .. how much could be left ?   “thank god for weightlessness charms. i’d have a ruptured spine by the end of first term toting around these bad boys.”  another grunt as she shifted the books from one arm to the other.  “the DADA book alone could double as a lethal weapon. “

          “  you  and  me  both,  honestly.  ”  was  skyler  stoked  to  go  back  to  hogwarts  for  another  year  ?  normally,  the  answer  is  no.  but  nowadays  she’s  beginning  to  wonder  if  her  years  of  working  hard  to  make  her  parents  proud  would  be  beneficial  in  the  long  run,  and  thinks  things  over  again.  she  thinks  she  can  handle  one  more.  a  frown  was  sent  her  way  as  she  looked  down  at  her  own  list  of  requirements  to  see  that  she  only  needed  four  books  in  total,  which  was  a considerable  amount  less than  the  other’s  before  she  remembers  her  extra  courses  thanks  to  the  help  of  her  time-turner.  “  i  mean,  it  looks  like  one  hell  of  a  spine  breaker  to  me.  can’t  think  of  you  without  the  charm,  really.  ”
