she had to admit that his tiny pup was really adorable. while she was more of a cat person herself, she’d recently given up the cat she had to live with her parents since she really was in no state to take care of another animal. “   glad to hear it.    ”    it was merely said out of formality.    “    umm,    i mean if he doesn’t mind and is a people person then sure.    ”

              JAVIER SMILED brightly. “oh he won’t mind! he absolutely loves people.” at his words, his puppy began to bark as if he was agreeing with what his owner said. “he loves playing fetch since he’s very young and i just got him a couple months back.”

given irene’s condition,    she really shouldn’t spend too much time outdoors in the summer.    but then again,    she just didn’t like relying too heavily on the potion that her mother specifically brewed for her.    alas,    it was summer and she had to spend some of it outdoors if she wanted to be social.    with a final reminder from her parents to be careful,    irene found herself grabbing an ice cream cone at the ice cream parlor.    she stopped short once hearing a dog bark,    only to realize it belonged to javier.    “    oh it’s okay,    ”    she shrugged it off and took a small lick from her ice cream cone.    who    bites    their ice cream    ?    it’s just odd.    “    i’m doing well.    or at least as well as i can be for a summer’s day.    and you    ?    ”

              A SMALL smile tugged at his lips when he saw that it was irene who had approached him. though, a small frown replaced that smile when he heard her mention a summer day. he almost forgot that irene was part vampire and was unable to be in the sun for too long of a time. “do you want us to move somewhere where there’s a bigger er, shade?” he asked, tilting his head to the side. “i’m doing fine. just relaxing with good ole’ loki here.” then he paused. “er, you’re cool with dogs, right?”

      when hufflepuff had get togethers just with fellow badgers in the past,       the prefects had been good with letting loose;       especially if the occasion were celebrating the winning of a quidditch match.       loyalty was most important to the house after all       …       even if it meant ignoring the fact that booze wasn’t allowed to be kept on campus despite everyone who had it was legal to consume it,       and anyone who was passing around the bowls of alihotsy leaves and rolling them up at this exact moment weren’t doing anything wrong,       until they lit them with the end of their wand.       though if anything,       they were even more lax as far as that went.       they were the house of herbology.       what did everyone expect       ?       however,       looking at javier now,       marigold wondered how the new head boy and her closest wizard friend was feeling now that he had responsibility to ignore       …       “       having fun,       javi       ?       ”       her eyebrows raised minimally.       she paused to admire some of the hanging plants in the earthy common room.       in the background,       some wrock song she couldn’t quite place played on the commons gramphone.       she nodded her head to the beat.

             BEING A person of authority... well, it felt weird to javi since this was the first time. it still felt like a dream if he was being honest. he’d never really thought he would ever end up in such a position, but here he was: the head boy for the school year. he was supposed to be the role model for those in his year and the one who would reinforce the school rules. that being said, a good head boy would definitely not allow booze at the hufflepuff party nor would they allow people smoking alihotsy leaves but javi wasn’t like most head boys. one; he was uncertain of what to do right now. technically, he knew that he should put a stop to it, but it wasn’t really harming anyone and he doubted that anyone from their house would rat on him. hufflepuffs were loyal till the end after all. but he wasn’t going to partake in the festivities — someone needed to be the responsible adult in every party. the blond hufflepuff was listening to the music silently, head nodding along to the beat when he heard a familiar voice call out to him. “oh hey goldie,” he nodded in greeting and smiled slightly. “er.. well, as much fun as a sober person could have, i suppose? you?”

         he  was  grateful  towards  the  younger,  and  even  more  so  when  he  had  finally  gotten  his  papers  in  order  that  he  was  still  hanging  around.  his  lips  curled  up  into  a  small  smile  and  pushed  up  his  glasses  higher  on  his  nose.  “  gracias.  it  is  pretty  early,  but  i  like  being  there  before  the  morning  rush  gets  in,  y’know  ?  i’m  still  sorry,  i  should’ve  watched  where  i  was  going  anyway.  ”  a  sigh  left  his  lips  followed  by  another  check  of  his  watch.  plenty  of  time  to  spare,  he  thought  to  himself.  his  eyes  lit  up  and  vincent’s  gaze  went  over  to  the  path  he  normally  took  to  get  to  the  parlor.  “  the  tattoo  parlor  down  that  way.  smokin’  wand.  this  is  my  binder  for  designs  i’m  working  on.  ”

it was a relatively nice day and catalina didn’t have work till later, so while she could have stayed indoors versus going out but she’d decided to pop by diagon alley; and socialize. what a better day than today? it wasn’t as if she had any other plans till later. “it’s alright don’t worry about it.” the vibrant haired witch reassured and she didn’t mind– it had been  “your puppy is cute, can i ask how old he or she is?” it was just a curious question, partially because the puppy reminded her a little of her small dog. “i got a dog shortly after i graduated what feels like ages ago, and yours reminds me a little of mine. which is why i asked.” she questions with a friendly smile, before she continued on. “i’m good thank you, how are you?”

   “well, no.”  it would have been all over the papers if a professor had started killing her students. the worst thing that had ever happened at ilvermorny ( that sol was aware of )  was the day they’d accidentally left the paddock that housed the magical creatures unlocked and a hoard of nifflers had stormed the school. she’d lost many a ring and bracelet that week, including a charm bracelet gifted to her by her then boyfriend. she’d been beside herself at the time but now she couldn’t help but think the nifflers ?  they’d done her a favor.  or rather, him.  it had been one less thing for her to chuck at him when she’d found out that their entire relationship had been a lie.  “she could have been a half banshee.”  soleil replied with a shrug. “it’s not like i asked her to prove her blood status. that would have been cute.  i can see the headlines now … M.A.C.U.S.A’s daughter accuses school teacher of being a filthy banshee. i’m more of a .. searcher than a speaker.”  why ask the questions yourself when you could get someone to do it for you ?  she might have hated that some of her ‘ friends ‘ were people angling for connections but sometimes they made themselves useful.  especially when she needed to do something that wasn’t completely ethical.

despite news about the cauldron heists,    it did little to no use stopping cassandra from wandering the streets of diagon alley.    the place was bustling like always,    but then again,    it was at night where things seemed to get    sketchier.    the former hufflepuff made her quick stop at quality quidditch supplies for a new broom cleaning kit.    spotting florean fortescue’s ice cream parlour,    she figured getting a scoop of ice cream wouldn’t hurt.    what’s flexible dieting if she wasn’t able to eat what she wanted to    some    of the time    ?    she paid no mind to the wizard sitting outside of the shop,    only until she heard the dog barking that her attention shifted.    “    it’s alright.    your dog is very cute.    and i’m doing well.    can’t say that there’s much happening in my life.    and yours    ?    ”

               ALMOST EVERYONE who’d laid eyes on loki that day fell in love with the tiny pup. javi was enjoying having his dog be at the small and cuddly size, since he knew that sooner or later, loki would become very big and could hardly fit into his arms nor his lap. it was one of the reasons why he absolutely loved to have his pup on his lap or in his arms. “that’s good to hear,” he smiled kindly. “thanks! er, not much is going on, really. just been hanging out around here whenever i need to take loki for a walk. he loves it here and mainly everyone likes him too. did you wanna play with him for a bit?”

  forgot to bring your list back to school shopping ? that just sounded irresponsible. she hoped that javi wasn’t responsible for anything too important otherwise a lot of people might live to be disappointed. during the welcome back feast when they were back at hogwarts, soleil would remember this exact moment with a heavy sigh when dumbledore announced he and pippa carstairs as the head boy and girl for the year. they’d all be doomed.  but for now, the witch knew no better as he held her schoolbooks. “how’d i know she was a banshee ? easy.” she started ticking reasons off on her fingers. “she hated it when people laughed, had long dark hair, always wore black, screeched so loudly when someone got the answer wrong that it gave me headaches.” she shrugged. “maybe she was only half banshee but still … banshee.”  she said it with complete seriousness.

                TRUTHFULLY, HE needed to set a date to go shopping so he wouldn’t forget what he needed. nowadays, whenever he was in diagon alley, it was just for leisure and the back to school shopping was always more of an afterthought. with his tendency to zone out and get distracted, as well as his anxiety and impulsitivity ( really, his overall adhd ) it was a bloody wonder that dumbledore chose him to be the head boy for the upcoming school year. he’d been surprised to say the least: leadership was something he needed to improve in immensely, so he wondered why the hell the headmaster would choose him out of the many guys in his year. as she listed her reasons, javi’s fingers drummed quickly against the stack of books he held in his arms and he blinked a few times when she finished. “those sound like good reasons,” he conceded. “anyone ever die right after she screeched?”

jinx gave another reassuring smile, usually she would have SAID something if someone seemed worried about her; probably something along the lines of she could take care of herself. little did most know she’d been through a lot, taking care of herself was all she knew how to do. “that’s very true, thanks for understanding.” came her own response, nodding her head at the question she had gotten. “honestly? i’m doing my best, and try my hardest to do just that. but it’s proving not to be the easiest thing. i recently changed careers and it has a different schedule than i’m used to. so i’m just tired from that and it being so different. and i’m not fully adjusted yet i don’t think.”

              “NO PROBLEM. any time,” he smiled slightly at her. javi himself got easily distracted while conversing with other people, so he could definitely understand when someone didn’t seem as interested, that it was probably not because of the subject of the conversation itself but because of what that person must be dealing with. “ah career change,” he nodded, giving her a sympathetic look. “it definitely takes a while, but i’m sure you’ll get used to it eventually.”

       marigold almost choked on her gum.       it wasn’t everyday that javier showed up on her doorstep in brighton.       one moment,       she’d been sitting at her window writing pippa carstairs back,       the next she’d heard his voice from down below.       her footsteps were rapid paced and loud as she raced down the stairs.       “       merlin       !       what are you doing here       ?       ”       ye and ‘ere were traded for you and here in her accented voice as she pretended to play fight the slightly taller wizard.       she paused.       “       NO WAY       !       ”

THE WHOLE thing with apparition was pretty darn cool, if he was being honest. though this was his second time trying apparition by himself from his house to another town, a tad too far away. but he was eager to tell goldie the news. the blond wizard laughed as she pretended to play fight him, playing along, before he grinned. “yes way! i was so surprised too, honestly. like... i didn’t think i was good enough for a leadership position, you know?”

  soleil alina whitby was not known to be a friendly person. when she’d transferred to hogwarts last year, her presence around the castle had been shrouded in whispers and gossip. everyone knew that her father was the m.a.c.u.s.a. and that there had to be a reason why she’d moved across the pond for her final two years of schooling. some rumored that she’d killed someone, others heard she’d snogged a professor and been sent packing. none of the rumors had ever been true but soleil had enjoyed them nonetheless. when people believed you were dangerous, those who’d take advantage of her friendship were discouraged from trying. she’d made genuine friendships but that belief that she was dangerous ?  cold ?  her blank features often boring holes into the eyes of her classmates suggested that warmth was one word you would never associate with the girl.  that is, until her eyes flitted to javi’s husky puppy nestled in his lap in diagon alley. she’d be embarrassed by her enthusiasm later ( it certainly didn’t fit the bill for her usual behavior )  but any such feeling was non-existent as she thrust her belongings at her aunt and sprinted towards the cutest little ball of fluff she’d ever seen.  

“you’re just perfect, aren’t you?” her voice had risen an octave, scratching the dog behind its ears with the widest smile on her face. she was aware that her fellow schoolmate was speaking but seeing as he didn’t walk on four legs and have wide puppy eyes, she was disinterested in anything he had to say.  once the puppy had quieted down and calmed, she straightened; visage as impassive as usual.  if you’d blinked, you could have missed the transition where she’d lived up to the sunny disposition of her name.  “i’m fine.”  she cleared her throat, dusting off the ripped jeans she’d thrown on that morning. “your dog’s cool.”  

             HE KNEW about her. or rather, he’s heard about the witch so many times since she first came to hogwarts. javier was all too aware of the rumors, though he personally never knew her well enough or interacted with her enough to know whether or not the rumors held some sort of truth to them. he had his own group of friends he was content talking to and hanging around and their paths rarely, if ever crossed. one thing he certainly didn’t expect though was to see how excited she was when she laid eyes on his puppy. then again, most people liked his dog. it was really just the people who had cats and lived and breathed for cats that didn’t like his dog. 

loki looked really excited when soleil approached him and he was wagging his tail and barking excitedly. javi watched his puppy with a soft smile on his lips and he leaned back against his seat, looking down at his book. he was about to start reading, when he felt loki’s paws tapping against his leg. he looked down and smiled as he carried the husky and placed him back on his lap. “that’s good. and thanks,” he nodded, scratching the back of his ears. “i’ve only gotten loki two months ago, but he’s really cool and great.”
