“I’ll distract them, and you run.” Two more shots came at their hiding place, and Anakin turned to the other with a sharp smile. “Trust me.”

“It’s five in the morning, whatever this is, couldn’t it wait?” He hadn’t slept that night anyway. Just lain there staring at the wall all night, and now was finally getting tired. This planet's timezone was throwing him off.

“Do not push me.” He snarled. If they wanted a bigger fight, they could have one, but he was tired of being goaded and pushed around.

“It’s been far too long, old friend,” Anakin smiled back at them. “I’m glad to see you’re doing well.” The galaxy was so unstable that things could change at a moment's notice. He tended to only see people he cared about when things were turning dark.

“It’s not like that,” Anakin sighed. “Just talk to me. Please?” He hated that they didn’t feel like they could be real with him; he wanted them to just feel totally and irrevocably safe with him. He’d saved their life before, why couldn’t they just tell him what was going on? “I won’t tell anyone if that’s what you’re worried about. It’s just us.” He was a master at secret keeping.

Anakin sighed deeply, “Sometimes I don’t think I belong here at all…” he confessed, letting his hands cover his face. It felt like everything he did was met with how he could do better, even though he felt like he was outshining everyone, moving forward faster than any of the padawans in his age group with less training than they had. Anakin was a natural, but it was never good enough. “I’ve been here for eight years now, and people still look at me differently. I feel like I know what I’m doing, but every time it’s like…nothing is ever good enough.”

THE GASP THAT LEFT HER when he flung himself over her body like he suddenly grasped the ability to fly. Logically, she knew that it was probably the Force that helped him push himself upwards, but she was still going to play into it like it was something else completely. ❝ Holy gods. How did I do that? ❞ She glanced down at her hands like she'd suddenly developed a super power.

He laughed, hard, maybe a little too hard. "Don't get too hung up on it," Anakin rolled to his feet and helped pull her up without any warning. "Are you alright?" he asked, "We should get going before they figure out we found a way out," he paused realizing he needed to get his lightsaber before they actually go out of here. "They took something from me, I have to get it back before we go."
