Are u going to finish minho x reader where are we series??? I'm too invested to not know the ending pls 3
Hi...
It's very embarrassing for me to come back after almost two years of absence. I sincerely apologize. Life's been crazy for my part and I haven't had much of a break (mentally or physically).
Any who, I will be finishing this series. I cannot in good conscience leave this platform without finishing what I've started, even less disappoint all of you. I'll try to get it done before the third season releases, and then I'll figure out if I want to make a third continuation of this.
Otherwise, I have a few side projects I do want to get started. I want to step out of simply writing for kpop, and I hope I can expand the fandoms I write for. I've been going back into my Harry Potter phase, I've gone down a rabbit hole of Avatar after seeing the third one in theater... So be on the lookout for those!
I think I will abandon the project about Stray Kids I started about two years ago two, or maybe just erase all my drafts? I've been away for so long, I barely remember the plots and stories I made... we'll see.
Thank you for your patience, truly. I've been a bad writer and I should have interacted on here more. Or at least, give a sign I'm alive. I hope you'll be excited as much as I am about the few projects I have.
hello hello! :) I hope i am not bothering you if i am asking if you will continue a price i'm willing to pay or if its on an indefinite hiatus?
Helloooo! Yes, it's in my draft but I had the biggest writer's block, I'm really trying to get out of it. It's almost done anyway so I am not rushing, but I will finish it when the inspiration will hit me!
Sorry if this is silly but is it going to be 8 chapters total for the series? Also, I just wanted to say it’s so well written and my god do I love the way you writhe characters😀
Thank you, you're so sweet 🥹🫶 Yes, it will be 8 chapters for 8 episodes!
(After making a post out of frustration about the taglist, here are the rules and guidelines of this blog.)
Note that I will, from now on, be more strict on here because I realize that I can't enjoy writing if I'm not in an environment I feel comfortable in.
~ taglist ~
If your username does not work for tagging, it is totally not my problem. I try my best to make sure everyone gets a notification but if it doesn't work, it's either Tumblr being weird or your account that has a disabled being tagged.
This one, I've already covered it in a post. Fill out the form in my bio if you want to be tagged in my work. I check the document multiple times a day and I add every single person on each taglist they ask to be in. I have too many notifications coming in and they are scattered on so many posts that I will most likely not see your taglist requests in my comments.
If you want to be removed from one or all lists, send me a message and I'll do it!
~ reblogs ~
Please, reblog as much as possible. I'm not speaking only for myself but for all writers on here. Tumblr works with the amount of reblogs for visibility and not with likes. It takes two seconds to do, you don't even have to write your feedback with it. I spend hours and hours writing for you for free and all I'm asking is either some feedback, or a reblog. Not all of my work is good, I am aware. If you don't like it it's fine but if you do, reblogs is the best way to show your support. (I do reblog what I read on here but on another account so this one isn't so packed)
~ NSFW ~
I have not started to write NSFW yet, but I will probably. I am 20 years old and can legally write those types of works. I will put obvious warnings on my works if they have explicit content. I will trust and expect you to not read my NSFW stories if you are a minor. This is common sense and I hope that you are responsible enough to know that this is not okay nor legal to read 18+ content on here.
~ plagiarism ~
Again, common sense. Although my work is accessible for free, it does not give you the right to take it and claim it as your own. I will report and block if I see any posts that have my work in it. Translations and reposts are also forbidden without my consent. I have seen people getting their work stolen, I have almost experienced it and it's the worst thing that can happen to a writer. So, please, do not plagiarize my work.
~ posting pace ~
Again, I write for you on my own personal time and do it for free. I will, for sure, not post when I don't feel like it or if I have not finisned a work yet. Please, understand that I have a life outside of here and that I will post at my own pace. There are times when I am more productive and others that I am not so it is inevitable that there are gaps between every work released.
~ be kind ~
I'm so grateful to have met such nice people here and I hope this continues on. You might not like what I do and it's totally fine. But please, it does not give you the right to trash on it. Skip or ignore it, then. I want to feel safe here and share love with every person I interact with. Commenting about the actual stories, like not liking a character that I purposely made annoying, is fine though.
I am aware I am not good with interacting on social media so I apologize if I do not respond to your comments or such. I'm extremely introverted so it's just hard for me, but I try my best.
1. I will write at my own pace. Series are not discontinued unless it is marked as so. I have a life outside of here; there will be delays between posts.
2. I will only tag people who fill the form for the taglist.
3. I'm very grateful that you enjoy my work! You make my days 🫶 I'm just not good at answering to people, but I swear I read every comments and I thank each single one of you 🥹

In the split of a second, Kitty and Yuri pulled away from each other, looking just as in shock as you and Min Ho were. It took a moment for Yuri to get up and leave in shame, looking down as she passed by you.
"Hey, guys," Kitty said awkwardly, getting up herself.
"Hi," you responded, though you weren't entirely sure if you were supposed to act like what just happened didn't happen.
Min Ho, however, cut right to the chase. "Covey, what on earth was that?"
"Oh, so you saw that?"
"Since when do you even like Yuri? Yesterday you were all about Praveena."
She sighed. "Okay, the truth is, I started having feelings for her last semester. It's... it's part of why I broke up with Dae."
Min Ho paused, looking up in thoughts. "So, when Dae almost punched me in the face..?"
"He knew she had feelings for somebody else, and he thought that it was you," you finished.
His eyes grew bigger. "You knew?"
You smiled shyly, but before you could say anything, Kitty kept going. "What am I gonna do? I need to talk to Yuri."
"What you do now is get to the cars," you encouraged.
"And try not to ruin my ski weekend," Min Ho added.
She nodded, trying to convince herself, while Min Ho gestured for you to follow him outside. That allowed Kitty to gather her emotions and it gave you both an opportunity to talk. He mindlessly helped you carry your suitcases while you kept your carrying bag close to your side.
"So, Kitty is into Yuri?"
"Was," you corrected. "But yeah, it's been confusing for her. I don't know, maybe she still is?"
He scoffed. "Definitely. They were kissing," he insisted on the last word.
"And so? We kissed and it wasn't because we were still into each other."
"Right," he cleared his throat.
"We have to keep this to ourselves, Min Ho."
"As if I didn't know that already."
You shook your head. "Not just Kitty and Yuri, but our kiss too."
He knew what you meant. Clear as day. You might say a thousand times that the kiss meant nothing, but you both knew it was deeper than that. You still had feelings, you just knew it needed to be buried deep down.
As you finally arrived at the cars, you settled your things down while greeting the girls. You noticed how many of you there would be: Dae, Q, Mihee, Eunice, Stella, Juliana, Yuri, Praveena, Kitty, and of course, Min Ho. You were quite overwhelmed to be surrounded with such a crowd, but you were truly looking forward to the weekend.
"I don't think I can do this," Kitty said, joining you and Min Ho.
Before you could answer, Praveena walked up behind her, covering her eyes. "Guess who?"
"Hey."
"Hi! Oh, I think Yuri and Julianna made up. Should we ride with them?"
You immediately shook your head. "That one seems full. Come and take this one with me!"
Kitty gave you eyes that screamed 'thank you, I owe you', and followed Praveena as they began to load the car. Min Ho nudged your arm, giving you a small smirk in the process. And the blushing was back.
As the cars pulled in front of the cabin, you couldn't help but be amazed by the sight. While it seemed bigger and fancier than most cabins you've gone to in your life — which meant a lot since you had, yourself, a certain level of luxury — it still had a warmth to it. It looked like this place held a lot of memories. And from Min Ho's eyes as he stared at the entrance, you could tell you were right.
"It's beautiful up here," Stella exclaimed after Min Ho helped her get off the car.
"Got to admit, I've missed this place," he smiled.
Right, you remembered you were stuck to watch them act all lovey-dovey for two days. But no, you weren't going to let them ruin your mood. Opting to get away from anything or anyone that would cause you a headache, you joined Q's sides as you both headed towards the cabin. The group was far ahead from you, and Q smiled upon seeing you, only to nudge your arm in an eager way.
"Guess who I invited," he said.
You raised an eyebrow, doubtful. "If you say Florian, I'm literally going to hit you."
"What? No!" he got defensive before leaning towards your ear. "Jin."
You widened your eyes. "As if that's better," you whisper-yelled.
"It's not like they're going to find out," he argued but judging from your face, he dropped his shoulders. "He'll come in through the window, sleepover, and go back to his parents' place tomorrow."
"Oh, sure. That's an amazing plan."
"Please help me distract them while he's here?"
"Oh, that's why you told me."
He pouted. Mostly, it was cringe, but you were never the kind to refuse favors. Especially from Q. You mumbled some sort of agreement, earning you a hug from him.
"Let's go join the others before they ask what we're up to."
Walking in the cabin, you shook your legs to get the snow off your boots while the others gasped from how amazed they were. You agreed it looked even better inside, but you couldn't say you weren't used to it.
"All right," Min Ho spoke. "Dad will be here in a few hours. Tomorrow, we ski Alpensia and have dinner by Baek Jong Won."
Everyone cheered, but you rolled your eyes mockingly at his presenter persona. He took notice of it and sent a grimace your way, visibly joking back.
He shushed your group and he continued. "All right, settle down. Come on in, make yourselves at home."
You all followed him while he showed you around the place, indicating where the main necessities were such as the bathrooms. He then led you down a hallway which you assumed led to the bedrooms.
"There's, like, no photos of you," Madison pointed you.
"Thanks for noticing, Madison," Min Ho sighed.
You then pointed at a certain portrait of a man you thought of recognizing. "Wait, is this your brother?"
"Half-brother," he corrected. "Joon Ho is Dad's firstborn, and best-selling artist."
He cleared his throat before moving on to opening sliding doors. Nothing could have prepared you to the sight you were welcomed with. Displayed on top of the bed was a landscape image of Min Ho's father, naked on a fur rug with only a blanket of velvet to cover his intimate parts.
"Oh my God, jumpscare," Kitty began to laugh.
"Yeah," Q agreed with a more disgusted feeling towards it. "Talk about a full moon."
Min Ho's phone chimed, earning him a small scoff. "Speaking of..." He paused for a moment as he read the text. You could tell it was no good news from his facial expression.
"He's not coming."
"Min Ho," both Stella and you said softly, to which you exchanged a look.
"Since my dad decided to bail, some of the girls can use the primary suite. The boys can takr thr back bedroom. There's also a pullout in my dad's office."
"He had an office here?" Stella was quick to question, which made you question about her.
"Dibs!" Q rushed to say which only added to your confusion. "I-I need the single. I'm a night screamer," he explained.
"No, you're not," Kitty contradicted him.
"Fine. It's bubble guts."
You fake gagged. "Q, really?"
"Okay, none of you would know this but intense running actually causes intense... runs."
"Okay, spare us the deets. Room's yours." Q nodded, satisfaction on his face — and now you understood why he wanted the single. "We should get to bed if we're gonna hit the slopes early."
Everyone said goodnight, heading towards their assigned rooms. As for you, you stayed behind with wanting to check on Min Ho set in mind. That, however, was clearly not an option when you saw Stella sitting next to him before putting her head on his shoulder. Right, who were you to be his emotional support? It was Stella's job now. You told yourself you weren't going to mind them during the weekend. A break, that was what this trip was about.
As you were about to leave, he found your figure standing in the doorway still. He stood up automatically and came to you, which left Stella to sigh.
"Do you need something, Park?" Min Ho said.
You shook your head. "I should be the one asking you that."
His head dropped low. "You know, coming here was all his idea. But the second precious Joon Ho is available, he drops me. He has never put me first."
"I'm sorry."
Stella finally got up and hugged his arm, and you understood you might have stepped past a line when you sensed a slight tension appearing.
"This must be really hard," she added.
Min Ho, however, did not look at her once. His head did move up, but he was looking at you. You had been comfort and safety for months, it was hard to break this dynamic.
"I wish I didn't care," he continued.
"I get it," Stella affirmed. "I mean, there have been plenty of times when I felt like I'm not enough either."
You frowned at her words, similar to how Min Ho reacted as well. "Doesn't church help with things like that?"
"God can't fix everything, Y/N."
Min Ho hummed. "Really? I thought that was his whole deal, no?"
Her figure stiffened, like she had been caught in action. In an instant, she detached herself from Min Ho before grabbing your hand. You watched her lead you outside the door, confused.
"It's late. You should get some sleep. Meanwhile, Y/N and I will join the girls."
"Okay," Min Ho nodded, as dumbfounded as you were. "Good night."
She pulled you to the primary suite before you could say anything. The girls were already there, unpacking their suitcases and arranging sleeping mattresses on the ground. Stella finally let go of your hand to do the same, but you stood still. What was her deal?
"You know," she spoke, not looking at you. "I really appreciate that you care about Min Ho."
"You do?" you asked, surprised.
She took a few clothing items out, still not facing you. "I do, but I think you might need to relearn how to be a friend, and not a girlfriend."
You scoffed. So this was the issue. "You're right, I should know my place."
This wasn't much of a confirmation of her statement, and more of a sarcastic comment. She could say all she want, but you didn't care if you were coming off as invasive to her. Min Ho was someone you cared about, much more than you cared about yourself, and you would check on him if you wanted to. But for now, she'd hear what she wanted to hear.
She finally turned around, a smile across her face. "Thank you, Y/N. I knew you'd understand!"
She hopped to the bathroom with her pyjamas in hands which earned stares from everyone. Kitty came to check on you quickly, but you assured to her that it was nothing. In reality, it really was nothing. Only, Stella was starting to get suspicious in your eyes. Her behaviour, her mannerisms, her incoherent background story...
"Cool if I sleep here?" Praveena interrupted you two.
Kitty nodded. "Yeah, of course! The more the merrier!"
You were screaming internally from second-hand embarrassment. The poor girl was painfully trying to act normal, but it showed something was off. You then heard a squeal, indicating Stella came back. Yuri and Juliana weren't too far behind.
"This is giving slumber party vibes! Oh, who's gonna start the girl talk?" Stella exclaimed cheerfully.
She gave you a knowing look but you shook your head. "Not me."
"We could play Never Have I Ever, get to the real dirt," Praveena suggested to which Yuri answered with a yawn.
"I'm really beat."
"I forgot to brush my teeth, so I'm going to do that. Right now," she chuckled awkwardly before going straight to the bathroom.
Praveena stopped her, holding out her care products bag. "Kitty, don't you need this?"
She took it, embarrassed, leaving the four of you standing awkwardly. Stella announced she'd read her book instead, and the three other girls went to bed right away. You took it that it was your time to sleep as well, but an idea popped in your mind.
The letter.
You knew you left it in your travel bag in the kitchen — that left you no choice but to get your ass up and go fetch it. Knowing Min Ho, he was most likely still awake. And so, it was no surprise to see him sat at the table, scrolling mindlessly on his phone. The moment he heard you walk in, he adjusted his posture and put his phone down.
"Not going to bed?"
"I figured I could help you get your mind off things." His eyebrow raised and a smirk appeared on his lips, but you shook your head in disgust. "Not that, pervert."
"I'm joking," he chuckled lightly. "What do you have in mind?"
"My dad's letter."
He gave you a genuine smile, a sign to let you know he was in. You rushed to your bag, browsing through it. You frowned when the only things you were pulling out were receipts and notes of all sorts. None of them was the letter.
"Are you blind, Park?" Min Ho joked.
"I swear I put it in there. It was the first thing I packed."
He got up to join you before snatching the bag away from you. He began to search through every single pocket there was; nothing.
"My aunt's going to kill me," you said under your breath, falling onto a chair.
He crouched next to you and took your hand to rub it with his thumb. "Maybe you think you packed it but you left it in the dorm. We'll search for it when we get back."
You wiped your face with your hand. "You don't understand. This is one of the few things my dad left for us. If I lose it, I lose a part of my father. A part of his story."
Smoothly, he stood straight up, dragging you up with him. He engulfed you into his embrace. It was warm. It smelled good. He smelled good. Without noticing, you began to cry a bit. Just enough to have tears dropping but not enough to be putting your snot all over him.
"Y/N," he spoke softly, pulling away. "I..."
His eyes were bright and full of what you would think is love if you didn't know any better. And somewhat, you were satisfied you could see this side of him and have this much effect on him. Just like magnets, your faces were pulled into one another as your lips collided. Your body was warm and your hands were yearning to touch even an inch of his skin. When his hand went up your neck, you melted. But that was also your sign you maybe shouldn't have come to see him. Pushing him away, you stared at him in shock.
"I should go," you almost ran back to the room, and slammed the door shut.
"Good morning!" you cheered, observing Kitty waking up.
"Hi," she responded with a yawn as she began to slowly get out of bed.
"I'm so excited, I haven't been snowboarding once yet this winter, I barely even slept," Praveena cheered.
Kitty hummed. "Me either."
"You snowboard?" you asked to which she replied with a glare.
Stella joined in, a book in hands. "I'm staying here. I'd much rather read a book than risk breaking my neck."
"Is the Wi-Fi down?" Yuri said before showing you her phone.
You pulled out your own to see you had no better connection.
"I have no bars," Juliana sighed.
"I've got bad news."
Min Ho. Again. You turned your body the opposite way from him, trying everything to not catch a glimpse of him.
"I just popped my head outside," he continued. "There was a blizzard last night."
You grew slightly curious at his statement, so you allowed yourself to sneak a peek. And needless to say that you were not disappointed. Bursting into laughter, you covered your mouth with your hand to try and tone it down.
"Park," he rolled his eyes but all you could see was his head covered in snow.
"That's cute," you complimented.
"Stop, it's serious! Must've knocked down the service and the Wi-Fi."
Stella smiled apologetically. "Bummer. But that means great skiing, right?"
"Unfortunately, no. We're not going anywhere. It takes a day to clear the roads."
Your moment of fun was cut short from what you were hearing. Stuck? For a day?
"So, there's no way out?" Praveena asked.
Kitty scoffed. "We're trapped?"
In no time, the group assembled in the kitchen to look out the windows. Indeed, there was snow everywhere. So much that there was little of the windows that were not covered by snow. No way out.
In shiver, Madison spoke up. "Min Ho, can't you make it any warmer in here?"
He huffed. "Next Seollal, book a flight to Cebu."
"Breakfast then?" Mihee suggested.
"Oh, I'm so hungry!" Eunice nodded in agreement.
While Dae took it upon himself to try and find a way to warm up the place, you gave yourself the task to make some warm tea for everybody. So far, this seemed to be the only thing that worked in keeping yourselves warm. When you made the last cup of tea — yours — you joined Mihee and Eunice on the couch.
"He's a bit dumb, it's cute."
You looked at Eunice. "Who? Dae?"
Her eyes lit up. "Should I go help him?"
She didn't wait for an answer to get up and crouch down next to the man. You let out a laugh that was quickly shared with Mihee.
"She hasn't stopped talking about him since they began working together for the singing contest," she informed you.
"I think they're a cute match."
"Agreed. Now, tell me about you."
You cocked your head to the side, confused. "You know me, Mihee."
"I meant, what's the deal with Min Ho? You guys are always together, maybe even more than when he is with his actual girlfriend."
"Can I join you?"
You almost jumped at Stella appearing next to you. She didn't need an response to sit and take your arm as if you were close friends. You suddenly felt sweat all over your body. Uneasy, you scooted a bit further from her. Madison was next to sit with you, and Eunice came back eventually. Squeezed? Yeah you were being mushed between the two.
"I should wake up Q," Min Ho thought out-loud.
"No!" Kitty and you yelled.
"He went to bed very late," Kitty messily lied.
You nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I heard the toilet flush like a thousand times."
He was obviously not convinced by your explanation but didn't push it.
Mihee, on her part, was freezing. "Guys, what are we supposed to do stuck here all day with no Wi-Fi?"
"I have no idea, but I cannot feel my toes," Kitty reiterate. "Min Ho, are you sure there's not one part of this house that is not freezing?"
And just like that, it was like he had an illumination. "Oh my gosh, how did I forget? The hot tub?"
Everyone were in awe at the idea, cheering lightly at this small victory. Kitty, on the other hand, made herself disappear easily as she ran to the 'bathroom'. Gay panic, clearly.
You plugged your phone to your speaker and scrolled through the many playlists you have. You used to host pool parties almost every week when you were still living with your parents. One thing your mom transmitted to you was her love and taste in music. Unlike many, you both had a gift to pick the right songs for any context.
"Hurry, Park," Min Ho whined.
You glared at him. "Get in the hot tub already."
"Music makes the experience ten times better."
"Or," Q said. "You just want an entrance song for when you take your robe off."
"Sounds more like it," Kitty affirmed.
Min Ho scoffed. "And you call yourselves my friends."
You did finally pick a playlist and, in all his glory, Min Ho got in the hot tub. It took all of your energy to focus on Dae talking to you instead of looking at Min Ho's abs. This was the last thing you needed to see, especially right now.
"You're not listening, aren't you?"
You fake-smiled to Dae. "You were saying?"
He chuckled. "Simply that I think this is better than ski."
You couldn't be any more grateful that he didn't bring up the obvious. Another thing you appreciated a lot of him.
"In a way, but hot tub after skiing is a whole other experience."
Your eyes wandered around and you could see everybody was satisfied and relaxed. Well, except Yuri, Juliana and Stella...
"Where's Stella?"
You wanted to thank Q for speaking your mind. It avoided you looking like you had any interest in her.
"She's inside with a book," Min Ho hummed, eyes closed as his body shined from the water.
No, not looking.
Thankfully, Eunice convinced Dae to give him a massage and the man was groaning non-stop. You laughed at his pain while his eyes were screaming for help. They were one hell of a duo, that was for sure.
"While she's not here, want to tell me about you and your boy?"
You turned to Mihee and shook your head. "He's right there," you muttered.
"Don't speak so loud, then."
You shrugged and tried to find the best way to explain the situation without giving out the previous night's event. "It's been weird, I don't know. We're struggling to get back to being friends, I guess."
"It's usually not a struggle."
"Sure," you replied, unconvinced.
"Kitty and Dae are good friends now."
"It's different, they are an exception."
She gave you a knowing look. "Girl."
"I swear."
"All right. Switch places with me and we'll see."
You glanced at Min Ho only to shake your head violently no. "Are you crazy?"
With that being said, she forced you to get close to Min Ho while she sat next to Dae. Faking a conversation started, she made it look as if the action wasn't intentional. Damn you, Mihee.
"I'm glad you're here."
You didn't want to look at him, nope. "And I'm glad I get to be at the Moon cabin."
He let out a laugh. "Did you want to talk or..?"
Seeing he referred to the change of spot, you were quick to deny. "Mihee wanted to speak to Dae, that's all."
He leaned closer to you. "Are you sure?"
You grunted, growing frustrated. "Stop that, will you?"
"Stop what?"
"Act like you don't have a girlfriend."
He hummed. "I act like I have a girlfriend."
"So stay loyal."
He shrugged his shoulder before scooting closer to you. "You're right, I'm loyal."
You felt his body coming closer and closer to yours. Your heartbeat couldn't keep up with the millions of thoughts running through your head. The words were almost struggling to come out of your mouth.
"To Stella."
And he pulled himself back. And your body relaxed.
"Yeah," he cleared his throat. "Y/N, I know I told you I was going to break up with her, but she is very sweet. I kind of wanna see how it goes with her. I think we should forget about... yeah."
That was not what you wanted to hear. "I'm heading back inside, guys," you announced, already getting out the hot tub.
Kitty frowned. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I just don't want to be in the water too long. I'm doing this skin care routine and staying in water for too long can break the whole process."
"Your skin does glow," Madison pointed out. "Could you show me what products you use when we get back?"
"Sure," you forced a smile before wrapping yourself in a blanket and walking back inside.
It was still cold, but the heat from the jacuzzi did help you warm up a lot. You wanted to get changed quickly still, though. Wet body and cool air is never a good mix. Walking towards the primary suite, you were caught off guard when you spotted Stella, opening the office's door. Curious, you tried to make as little noise as possible and followed behind. Who knows? This could be your chance to see why she had been acting suspicious. As she headed to a drawer, she let out what is probably the loudest scream you've heard in your life.
Within a minute, everyone who was in the hot tub was now standing behind you, looking at the scene. Stella, a hand on her heart, staring in shock at Jin. Oh, right. Jin was there.
"Stella!" Min Ho yelled out as he rushed to her. "Are you all right?"
"I was looking for blankets. I found him in the armoir."
Dae made his way through the crowd. "What are you doing here?"
You didn't need a genius to figure out why he was here. Seconds later, all eyes were on Q. The poor guy smiled shyly.
"Would you believe that he's stalking me?"
"Are you two..?" Madison started but she didn't need to finish.
You changed into proper clothes and went to the kitchen to join the lot. At the table, Min Ho and Dae were just fixated on Jin. Meanwhile, the girls were on the couch, chattering about everything and nothing. Only Eunice and Mihee were missing. It took her a while, but Madison ended up talking you into braiding your hair. If you reached that point, you reached a new level of boredom.
Eunice made an entrance as she came in the kitchen with her hands full of snacks. She dropped them on the table, not forgetting to say a few words to Dae, before sitting on the couch with you. It wasn't long before Mihee appeared in her turn.
And she had something with her.
"Oh my God. Guess what I found in our room. I think it's a love letter."
This caught your attention. "A what?"
"Oh, let me see," Eunice said enthusiastically before reading some of it out-loud. "When we first met, I thought we were opposites. But then I thought, what if the universe made us partners in crime for a reason?"
"Wow, that's..." you breathed out, not realizing it was that deep of a letter.
"Oh my God, wait," Eunice gasped as if the truth hit her. "Partners? Opposites? I think Dae wrote this for me! I didn't know that he felt this way!" she squealed to which Mihee joined in.
As for you, you buried your head in your hands, earning some nagging from Madison to stop moving as she finished your hair. Kitty finally came back after a while and she complimented your hair. Your talk was not long as she sat with Praveena.
The letter began to get passed around after Eunice realized it wasn't directed to her. Madison thought Min Ho wrote it to her for some reason — let's not judge her. Then, Yuri read it, and her face got pale. In a rush, she took Kitty's wrist and brought her outside the room. Then Madison guessed Yuri wrote it to her... Then Praveena read it. Out-loud.
Q's eyes found yours and he signaled for you to come join him. Once next to him, you both said nothing. All you could do is bite your bottom lip nervously as Praveena kept reading more and more of it.
"You helped me discover a whole new side of myself. I thought I knew everything about love. After all-"
A sigh of relief left your mouth when Kitty came into sight, but Juliana didn't let her take the letter.
"Woah, no! You wait for your turn like everybody else," she chuckled, but Kitty's face was pure panic. Juliana continued reading. "I thought I knew everything about love. After all, I am a matchmaker."
Juliana's body froze. Kitty rapidly took her letter back. It was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. No one knew what to say, and even less Kitty.
"Oh my God," Juliana finally spoke. "This is about Yuri." Kitty didn't dare to look at her. "Why did you bring this here?"
"I didn't, I swear."
She looked between the two girls in front of her. "You both were acting really weird last night." Silence. "Something happened?" Silence again... "Yuri." ... "Tell me I'm wrong."
Nothing.
Both girls looked down, ashamed. That was all Juliana needed to know she didn't want to be here anymore. Walking into Yuri's shoulder, she went past them and to the rooms.
"Wait, babe!" Yuri ran after her.
"Should we check on them?" you wondered for the nth time.
Q sighed. "It's something between them."
"Should I go in there?"
Jin gave you a look. "All we can do is stay here and wait until they're done talking."
You threw your head back. Min Ho really did call it when he warned Kitty to not make this trip a nightmare. You couldn't imagine how she felt when you weren't even involved and felt so uncomfortable.
Silence took over the room once more. This time, it was because the tension between Min Ho and Dae with Jin was back. They decided to play a board game while you stayed with the couple, watching them play. Time was passing and you were hoping to be doing anything other than this. It was so boring.
"Min Ho, Dae, let's finish this once and for all."
Both boys stood up and came face to face with Jin. Madison seemed too excited about this to your liking.
"Are you gonna fight them?" she asked in a hopeful tone.
"No," he scoffed, earning a disappointed groan from her. "I'm going to apologize. I'm sorry I bullied you two, okay?"
Both spoke. "No."
"A begrudging apology is not enough," Min Ho explained.
Jin sighed. "Fine. You know what? Bully me. Then we'll be even."
"Jin, come on," Q tried to talk him out of it.
"It just got interesting again," Madison commented and you rolled your eyes.
"I'm serious, okay? Bully me, I can take it. Come on."
You weren't having it. This was childish to you and all you had in mind was how worried you were about your friends, and fed up. Fed up with Min Ho and Stella haunting your thoughts. Maybe she was right, you were out of line. The more you saw him, the more you craved him. But his mind was set. And could you blame him? No. He gave Stella a chance just like he gave you one. You just fucked it up. And seeing the whole Yuri-Juliana-Kitty triangle, you saw how you weren't any better. And to make things even worse, you still had your letter in mind. Where the hell did it go? If your lost yours, how did Kitty's get here?
You were on autopilot mode as you let yourself mindlessly get changed and head outside where the hot tub sounded like a reward from your worries. The warmth hit your skin just right as you dipped in one foot after the other. Slowly, you let your body slide down into a seated position. Turning on some music, you closed your eyes and sighed in contentment. Well, the closest thing to contentment at the moment; relief. Relief that the weekend was coming to an end.
"I thought the water was bad for your skin," you heard Min Ho arrive.
Eyes still closed, you shrugged. "Aren't you in there to bully Jin?"
He ignored your question. "The roads are open, meaning lockdown is over."
"Great," you said with no emotion.
"Park, please. Come out so we can talk."
"I just got here."
He let out a long exhale. "Well, if you're not coming out, I'm coming in."
That made you open your eyes. "As if you would ruin your designer jacket."
"You know it's not my favourite."
"Go back with Stella, Min Ho," you demanded, now turning your back on him.
While your demand was very clear, so was the sound of the water moving when he came in, slowly making himself comfortable next to you. Gently, he took your shoulders to bring you into his arms. Tears began to stream down your face as you finally allowed yourself to rest your head on him.
"Why are you like this..." you said in a whisper.
"Like what?"
You shut your eyes close again. "Giving me a headache."
He chuckled. "Habit?"
You shook your head. "Did the girls break up?" He nodded. And the tears multiplied. "I'm a terrible person."
"No, you're not."
"You're telling me you want what is happening to them to be what happens to you with Stella?"
"That's something I'll deal with. She knows we... that our relationship is complicated."
You pushed him away. "You're doing it again."
He sighed. "It's impossible to keep emotions like that hidden."
"Min Ho," you said in a warning tone.
"But we both know how it'll end."
You shut your eyes close. "I know," you breathed out. "Stella is a nice girl. You'll be happy."
"I- Yeah, we'll see."
A figure appeared in your panoramic view and it didn't take long for you to figure out it was none other than the girl herself.
"What are you doing out here?"
You exchanged looks and Min Ho stood up. "Just talking as friends." She walked away, only confirming you were the awful person now. "Stel!" he called her out.
"Kitty? You okay?" Q asked as him and Jin stood in the doorframe.
The girl shook her head. "Not really. Neither is she..."
Q took in the sight in front of him before bring you into his embrace. "It's okay, we're here," he comforted you.
"I guess I'm a chaos queen too," you commented, making the three others laugh lightly. "How are you two?"
"We're good," he said, pulling away. "Min Ho, Dae and Jin all made up. So Stella finding Jin in Moon's office was a good thing."
Jin agreed with a chuckled, but then paused. "It was weird. When I heard her coming, I hid in the armoire. She said she was looking for blankets., she was definitely opening up his desk drawers before she found me."
You nodded. "Yeah, I saw her too."
"Oh, that's... weird."
You waved the boys goodbye before going back to your room to pack your things. In silence you did your own thing, but there was an unsaid agreement; Stella was odd. You shared a look and Kitty's eyes went to Stella's suitcase.
"Kitty," you warned her.
"If she can snoop, so can we."
While you were most definitely against the idea, your curiosity about this girl was bigger. You stood in front of Kitty to both hide her and be on the lookout in case someone walked it. She carefully opened the suitcase, searching through Stella's thing.
"Forget Moon's office. Why the hell did Stella take my letter?"
Min Ho didn't know what he wanted anymore. He thought he knew. Stella was the choice, no? Church girl, pretty face, kind soul... But you? There was an invisible string that always led him back to you, no matter how many times he tried to cut it. Still, too much pain happened and it couldn't be saved. You two were over. He knew this when he finally stopped thinking about you during a date with Stella. But after this weekend? He wasn't so sure anymore.
Stella was out there, waiting for him to explain why she found him in the hot tub alone with his ex-girlfriend. There was no reasonable explanation to that, because he couldn't explain it to himself. Upon realizing you were no longer in the room after the Jin moment, his focus was on finding you and making sure you were safe. Nothing else.
"Stella?" he said as he approached her in the kitchen.
On the table was a briefcase. Confused, he walked up to her slowly.
"Before you say anything, there's something you need to see."
"All right," he said, sitting down as doubt was all over his face. He opened it, and his heart tightened. "These are..."
"Report cards, birthday cards you wrote your dad, drawings..." she listed as he took each piece of paper one by one. "I found them in his office when I ran into Jin."
"My dad kept all of these?"
"He loves you, even if he's bad at showing it. And you deserve to know that."
That was something he loved about her. She wanted him to fix his relationship with his dad as much as he wanted to. That's something you never did. You kind of ignored he had a father at some point.
"It's time to explain you and Y/N."
He cleared his throat, not too sure where to start. "I did love Y/N, a lot. And so did she. Last semester, we went to L.A. together. It didn't work out. I blamed her for my mom leaving L.A. again. And... I kissed a girl, as some sort of revenge?" He paused. "And she left. It's all over now. I've learned better and I'm with you. I just want to be there as her friend to redeem myself from what happened. But we hurt each other in different ways that I don't think we will ever be together again."
She smiled sadly, and took his hand. "Thank you for telling me the truth."
The moment was cut short. Dae and you walked in the room and you never wanted to bury yourself underground any more than now.
"Why didn't you tell me the truth?" Dae spoke up.
Min Ho stood up, walked up to his friend. "Dae, I can explain."
"What's going on?" Kitty, walking in behind you, asked.
"You cheated on Y/N? You're supposed to be my best friend when you treat our friend — your girlfriend at the time — like that?"
Min Ho slowly took a few steps closer. "I am your best friend, Dae. Listen to me-"
"Shut up," he pushed him away. "You lied, saying you argued over whatever bullshit you made up? No, I don't want to talk to you. Ever again. We're done."
His head low, he walked out the room. Min Ho and you didn't dare to look at each other, and Kitty already ran after Dae. You were sick to the stomach.
"I told you to keep it to yourself. We agreed to spare it from our friends for both our safety. And you broke that promise?"
He stepped closer to you, this time, but you back away. "Y/N, listen."
"You know, since the beginning of the semester, I keep telling myself that I am so grateful to have Dae as a friend. Every day, he does something to support me. And today, I cannot be any more grateful he's standing up for me. Because you clearly are not."
warnings: cussing, jealousy, heist (aka don't do that kids).
summary: despite you and min ho growing closer once again, he still sends you mixed signals about what he wants. and you don't know how long you can handle this back and forth. especially when you know you'll be spending seollal with him... and stella.

As soon as you saw Stella, you pushed Min Ho away from you. She was beyond mad, she was hurt. Before you could say anything, she shook her head in disappointment and left as she disappeared into the school building. You looked at Min Ho, who was avoiding your eyes.
"You didn't tell her you weren't interested, did you?"
With a sigh, he shook his head no. "I didn't get to speak to her, let's say."
"A text, Min Ho, no?" you said in disbelief.
"The one I was really trying to text was not responding."
"Yeah, and you should have taken it as a sign maybe."
His Adam's apple bopped. "Then why did you kiss me?"
You pointed at him. "You're the one who kissed me."
"What? Why would I want to kiss you?"
It felt like a knife went through your heart. You were baffled that, only seconds ago, you were letting yourself fall in love with him again. Although he was noticeably frustrated with you, it wasn't hard to see he regretted what he said right after the words left his mouth.
"Sorry, it just-"
"Whatever, Min Ho..."
Crossing your arms, you held them close to your body. To this, he took his jacket off and wrapped it around you. Your face still showed anger but you did nothing to stop him.
"I'll talk to Stella," he assured.
"Yeah, and I will too. I'll say this was in the spur of the moment."
He scoffed. "So, it meant nothing?"
Your shoulders dropped. "What do you want me to say?"
His mouth opened to say something but nothing came out. Visibly, he was as confused as you were. And while you didn't hate it, you were afraid you only hurt yourself.
"Sure," he finally spoke. "It was in the spur of the moment."
The corner of your mouth lifted the slightest, a sign of gratitude. "Thanks. We're good?"
"We're good."
You shared a hug that you could describe as the most awkward physical interaction you'd had in life, and you went your separate ways, not forgetting to give back his jacket beforehand. By then, hunger had died down and the softness of your mattress was all you could think of. You dreaded the discussion you'd have to share with Stella, but you couldn't just stop yourself from going home.
When you walked in, she was on her laptop and sat on the couch. At the sound of you entering the place, she glared at you before focusing on the screen again. You slowly approached her.
"Hey, can we talk?"
She frowned. "About how you promised nothing was going on with Min Ho before giving me his number, only to kiss him right in front of me?"
Ouch. As much as you hated hearing that, you couldn't deny that she was pretty spot on.
"It's not what it looks like-"
She suddenly shut the laptop before looking at you right in the eyes. "Did you do it to humiliate me or something?"
"What? Of course not!"
"Then explain to me what is going on," she breathed out, her voice softening.
You allowed yourself to take a seat next to her. "Min Ho and I, we have a complicated relationship. I am trying my best to become his friend again, no feelings involved. What you saw earlier was nothing but a moment of weakness where we both fell back into old feelings. I swear, it was nothing."
She cocked her head to the side. "It seemed pretty passionate to me."
"I promise, it meant nothing. Have him all you want, I won't overstep again."
Even if you were more trying to convince yourself than her, she ended up accepting your explanation, thanking you for being honest with her. But were you?
You hurried to join Dae and Kitty as soon as you saw them in the crowd. Q had been showering the whole gang with messages about how the track meet was important to him, meaning he wanted everyone to be there for him. Your only surprise was to not see his face among the team, who was already settled for the track to start. Out of breath, you joined your two friends who seemed as lost as you were.
"This is crazy. Where is Q?" Dae spoke what everyone was thinking.
"I have no idea, but that is the guy he was all over last night at the club," Kitty pointed to one of the track members.
Dae scoffed. "Q ditched me for Jin? But he's Q's rival, and he's a big jerk."
"Yeah, well, looks like Q might have gotten played," you sighed before turning to take a look around in hopes to spot Q.
That when you saw Min Ho and Stella, seated in a very cozy manner on the bleachers. While Stella waved at you kindly, Min Ho stared at the floor, visibly ashamed you 'caught' him hanging out with the person he was supposedly not interested in — also considering he kissed you the day prior. You were not going to let it affect you. Like you had both established, it meant nothing.
Alex coming out to announce start of the race was enough to make you forget about that weird feeling in your stomach. "Runners, please take your marks for the 100-meter dash qualifying. The winner will represent KISS-"
"We have to do something!" Kitty exclaimed.
You nodded. "I have an idea."
Before either could question you, you ran to the track. You purposefully dropped your bracelet, one that belonged to your mother, and began to act distressed as you looked around the ground. You didn't hesitate to let out grunts of frustration and comments on your foolishness for losing your jewelry.
The crowd began to chatter amongst themselves, wondering why you were interrupting the race. Kitty and Dae were trying to tell you with hand movements to stop, but you couldn't let Alex start the run when Q wasn't here.
"Y/N, get off the track!" Alex called out.
Out of panic — well mostly because you ran out of ideas — you dropped on the ground, faking to have fainted. Frankly, the ground was quite comfortable as you closed your eyes, only feeling the wind grazing against your skin... and fingers?
"Y/N!" Min Ho yelled, worried. "Y/N, you all right?"
As he rubbed your shoulder, shaking it slightly to see if you were fine, you opened an eye to glare at him. "I'm trying to cause a diversion, dummy!"
His shoulders relaxed, but he couldn't help but roll his eyes. He held his hand out for you to grab, and by hearing Q finally arriving, you took it. Helping you up, he could only chuckle.
"What?"
"That's the last thing I'd have expected you to do. I mean, since when do you like being the center of attention."
It was your turn to roll your eyes. "I don't. But I care about Q, who should be both our focus right now."
You didn't let him reply as you joined your friends — and Stella, to cheer on Q. As soon as the race started, your eyes were fixated on him. He started out great, being the first up. However, it didn't take long for Jin to surpass him.
"Come on, Q," you muttered to yourself.
"Let's go!" Kitty encouraged.
Unfortunately, the cheers you heard were all for Jin who made it first. You still all clapped, although you were visibly disappointed.
"Have I been mean to Juliana?"
You groaned, throwing your book at the end of your bed. All you wanted was one morning without Kitty complaining about ruining Yuri and Juliana living together by letting it slip out in front of Principal Lee. So far, so good since you were the one to take Yuri's bed in their room. That worked out for you since you wanted to avoid Stella. Yeah, because Min Ho clearly did not turn her down and they continued to be 'a thing'.
"What did you do, now?"
"Nothing!" she almost yelled, making you jump. "She was eating her cereal, then I tried to confide to her about Praveena, but she just left. She said she had stuff to do but I think she's making up excuses. Did I say something?"
"Beside the fact you were the cause for Yuri to move out?"
She deadpanned at you. "Yes, beside that."
You shrugged. "She might actually have something to do."
She whined. "You're not helping."
"Forget about them," you said, getting off your bed and grabbing your school bag. "We have to get to the assembly anyway."
Min Ho: Y/N?
"Uh..." you stopped on your tracks.
"Everything alright?" Kitry questioned, trying to catch a glimpse of your phone screen.
"Yeah, you go ahead. I'll join you at the assembly."
She seemed unsure but nodded nonetheless before leaving you alone. You looked in her room to see if Stella was still home, and when you noticed no signs of her, you dialed Min Ho's number.
He picked up right away. "I thought you'd ignore me!"
"What do you want?" you cut right to the chase.
"I was just grabbing coffee before class. Since we don't live in the same dorm anymore, I just wanted to know if you wanted one."
You scoffed. "What about your girlfriend? What is she going to say when she learns you're getting your ex coffee?"
"Hey, we're still friends, no? And Stella's not my girlfriend."
You hesitated. But, coffee is coffee after all. "Alright. You know how I like it?"
"How can I forget?"
You could hear the smile from his voice and, ultimately, it made you smile too. "I'll join you in a bit, then?"
"Just hurry before it gets cold."
And so, you took off, not forgetting to grab your umbrella in the process since it was raining lightly. It took you less than five minutes from your dorm to the coffee trailer. Min Ho, in all of his glory, stood patiently next to it with two cups in hands and his hair slightly damped since he put his umbrella away until you arrived. He was rocking his body back and forth, visibly waiting.
"You could have gotten me a large," you commented, grabbing his attention.
He chuckled. "For you, m'lady," he held the coffee to you.
You grabbed it, glad to see it was still warm. "Thanks."
He opened his umbrella again and you walked side by side towards the school building. Taking a sip, you were more than happy to get warmed up. Plus, it was just how you liked it.
"The ones you make are still better," you pointed out.
"I know," he cocked an eyebrow. "I hate to say this but it is different without you at the dorms."
"Don't get all nostalgic, it doesn't suit you."
He sipped his coffee before shrugging. "It's a fact, though. I have nobody to bicker with."
Your eyes grew, offended, and just when you were about to give him a slight slap on the arm, you were quickly interrupted by his father.
"So, how's my favourite student doing?" Mr. Moon asked, only for Min Ho to react disgusted.
"A bit early for blatant nepotism, dad."
"I was talking to your girlfriend, the shark," he pointed towards you and you body stiffened.
"Sorry about that... again. And we're not-"
He cut you off. "It's okay, I loved it," he complimented before turning to his son. "So, have you decided about the cabin for the long weekend?" Noticing Min Ho only seemed confused, he continued. "Just you and me, one-on-one on the slopes? You used to love when I took you skiing as a kid."
"That was Joon Ho. Not me. Anyways, Stella and I have plans this weekend."
"Oh I thought-" Mr. Moon started, glancing at you for a second. "Nevermind. Well, it would be a shame to let this house go to waste, again," he said before leaving the two of you be.
"Y/N-" Min Ho started, obviously wanting to explain the Stella thing.
But you ignored it. "Your dad's not doing a Seollal get-together with the whole family?"
He sighed, upset by your avoidance but he still answered. "All my siblings are spending the holidays with their moms. Joon Ho is on tour, meaning I'm his last resort."
"I mean, he is still putting in the effort of asking you. Who knows, maybe it's a chance for you to-"
"Torture myself?" he interrupted you. "Forget it. We have an assembly to go to before class."
The assembly in itself was not so interesting, as per usual. Stella joined Min Ho, to begin with, which did not please you much. Especially seeing her hold Min Ho's arm the way you used to. Otherwise, Alex was trying his best to catch the students' interest, which was pretty sad to watch. Madison was being the Korean obsessed girl that she is. And Mr. Moon had to steal the show. He announced a student talent showcase at the end of the semester where the winner would receive a cash prize. At the mention of it, you immediately looked at Dae.
And by the end of the assembly, your friends seemed to have the same thought as they encouraged Dae to sign up for it, while Kitty and Stella followed behind the four of you, having a conversation of their own.
"You have to enter the contest," Q said excitedly. "You have the voice of an angel."
Dae nodded. "My family could use the money. But singing is just, like, my hobby."
"I got you, bro. I'll coach you. Manager-performer dream team, baby," Min Ho offered. "And, I won't even take commission."
Dae chuckled, remaining doubtful. "But do you think I could actually win?"
"Yeah," you and Q affirmed.
That visibly encouraged him. "Okay, then. Let's do it."
Arriving at the dance studio, you came to fetch Dae after he texted you. Apparently, Min Ho and Eunice were making his first rehearsal hell and knowing you, he hoped you could get him out of it. As you walked in, you were less than surprised to see Stella tagging along as she observed Dae dancing messily. You chuckled to yourself, leaning on the door frame to not disturb them. You wanted to see Dae suffer a bit, it was kind of funny.
"This isn't going to work," he let out, discouraged.
Eunice scoffed. "It is not my fault that you can't handle a little constructive criticism."
Stella sighed. "Okay, why don't you tell them your brilliant idea?" she asked Min Ho, not forgetting to touch his arm in the process.
You swallowed whatever feeling you were having as Min Ho spoke. "Well, I thought of the cherry on top for your performance. When the song ends, you spin around, bend her back, and lay one on her."
Dae frowned. "What do you mean, 'lay one on her'?"
"What I mean is..."
You wanted a show, you got a show. Spinning Stella around, Min Ho swiftly held her before bending her back, just like he had described. And he laid one on her. Their lips met briefly but the small gesture was enough to make your eyes water. What hurt even more was Stella's satisfied grin, like she had won something. Maybe she did.
"My boy's right."
You jumped at the voice while Mr. Moon walked in the room past you. Finally, Min Ho spotted you. You couldn't tell what his face was saying, but it was nothing good. It was a mix of shame, fear, guilt... And to be honest, you couldn't care less about how he was feeling.
"Your instinct is so spot on, son," he continued and Min Ho nodded, thankful. "All right, I won't distract you. I just wanted to say Baek Jong Won said he'll be happy to cook a dinner at the cabin this weekend. I know how much you love his ramyun."
"The famous chef?" Stella asked, stars in her eyes almost.
"Yeah, he's just a family friend. Think about it." He turned around to leave and smiled at you in acknowledgement as he went past you again. "Miss Park, always a pleasure."
"Your dad's really trying," Stella said, but was ignored.
"Where were we?" Min Ho went back to Eunice and Dae.
"I was just about to leave," Dae said, looking at you. "Sorry, I can't do this."
He joined you while the others called for him. Min Ho frowned, looking back and forth at the both of you but you just took Dae's wrist and rushed to get him out of there — get you both out of there. Deciding you both deserved food for each of your problems, you went to the convenience store to get some instant noodles together. You insisted that it was on you, and even if Dae tried to pay for himself, he ended up letting you take care of it.
Finally seated, you both slurped in silence, enjoying the flavours rather than speak about your issues. That was something the both of you needed terribly. But you couldn't avoid it for too long.
"I think I won't do the talent showcase," Dae stated.
You moved your eyes from your food to him. "One bad rehearsal does not mean you have to give up."
"Did you see me there, Y/N? I was a mess."
You shook your head. "You were definitely out of your comfort zone, but you weren't a mess. You had three people working with you, that's something. They know you've got what it takes."
He sighed. "I don't know... Ah, and sorry about Min Ho. I didn't know they would kiss in front of you or..."
You smiled. "Thank you for worrying, but I'm fine. You know just like me that it's hard, but you have to accept it won't be the same anymore."
He nodded in agreement. "You and me are pretty much on the same boat, yeah."
"Besides, I'm just glad he at least found someone nice and not some random fangirl."
You both shared some laughter. It felt amazing to spend time with him like this. You reminded yourself once more that he was a true friend you could rely on.
The moment was short as you phone began to ring. Both of you looked at the contact. Speaking of your exes, Kitty was the one calling you.
"What's up?" you answered.
"You know how quiet and subtle you are?"
You raised an eyebrow, unsure as to what she was saying. "I guess."
"I'm planning a small heist with Praveena, but we need help..." she said, trying to not sound too crazy.
"Kitty!"
"I need my mom's time capsule and the only way I can get it is by stealing it."
You shut your eyes, discouraged. "How did you come up with that idea?"
"It was Praveena's, actually. Please, Y/N, I really could use some help."
You breathed out. "You can sneak in without me."
"You know how to walk in a room without being noticed. I could use you as a guide!"
"Ugh... Fine, I'll come."
"Oh my God, you're an angel."
"I am aware," you chuckled.
"I do need one last favor from you, though. Please?"
You paused. "What is it?"
Dressed in dark clothes, you followed Kitty to the archives to join Praveena. For a date, this was... something for sure. You spotted the girl soon enough and she waved at you all.
"Oh, great. You brought the mouse and the muscle."
"I'm the muscle?" Min Ho asked and you lightly kicked his side with your elbow.
"Don't get too excited. Like I said, we just need someone tall enough to reach the high stuff," you snorted. "And Dae and Q were busy, so..."
"Hmm, are you sure it's not because you wanted to see me tonight?"
You glared at him. "After having to disinfect my eyes after you and missy's kiss, no thanks."
"Okay," Praveena stopped your bicker. "Huddle up, here's the plan."
You all formed a circle, huddled up, and it was hard to ignore Min Ho's hand placed around your waist. Of fucking course he was still sending you mixed signals while clearly being happy with Stella.
Praveena went on explaining the plan. You immediately got into action and she walked in, acting as a distraction. She exchanged with the old lady at the front desk before signaling for you three to get in. You discreetly crouched down and you rushed in, making as little noise as possible. Kitty and Min Ho followed your lead and you finally got in. You allowed yourself to stand up and turn on your flashlights.
"Why are we going through all this?" Min Ho complained.
"Because I have a whole other side of my family that my mom came here to find. So if this time capsule has a clue on how I can track them down, I have to have it," Kitty whisper-yelled.
"How touching," he said with no emotion whatsoever, causing you to bump the side of his body again. "Hey, will you stop?"
"Show a bit of empathy, here," you rolled your eyes.
"Well, personally, I'd love to erase the existence of half of my family."
Kitty let out a chuckle before going on about looking through the files. Meanwhile, you and Min Ho looked around aimlessly as you keep discussing.
"Correct me if I'm wrong but did your dad fund an entire arts program to spend time with you?"
"That's his move. Big, shallow gesture to make up for not being there. Like inviting me to a ski cabin for Seollal."
"I mean, do you want to fix things with him? I remember you telling me you do miss him," you pointed out, recalling one of your dates.
"I guess so," he admitted. "But... one-on-one time with him is always stressful. It'd be different if there were a bunch of family members around, like there's supposed to be on Seollal. Or even just very annoying and unpleasant people like yourself. As a buffer."
You hummed, faking a smile. "How kind of you," you said before joining Kitty, starting to get annoyed yourself.
He followed you and placed a hand on your shoulder to stop you. "What if we did that?"
You scoffed. "Use me as your buffer?"
"Well, you and the guys. And might as well ask Covey."
Kitty turned to you at the mention of her name. "Oh! I mean, it'd be more fun than hanging out here for the holiday."
You, for once, agreed. "Yeah, I guess. And we'll have your back if your dad's being difficult."
"Still looking out for me, how sweet," he joked.
"Like you said, I'm still your friend."
He was about to say something but noise coming from the front door made you all hide behind shelves.
"Professor Lee, I can assure you I know aisle 12!" Praveena yelled for you to hear.
"Wait, this is aisle 12!" Kitty whispered making you all change you hiding spot. While Kitty took the left, you and Min Ho too the right.
"Why are you shouting?" Mr. Lee asked Praveena. "I am perfectly capable of hearing you as well. I'm not as old as you think."
"I don't think you're old!"
You tried to peek but Min Ho grabbed you a which inevitably brought you back down. "Are you trying to get us caught?"
"I was just-"
He immediately placed his hand over your mouth to hush you. Meanwhile, his eyes glimmered with the little light there was. You began to breathe heavily and you thought he was doing so too. You did feel his hand getting sweaty and a blush a appeared on both of your faces.
"Y/N, about earlier-"
You stopped him, removing his hand from your face. "I'm happy for you."
He frowned. "No, I'm not-"
"I am, really. Stella seems to care about you."
"Don't fake being happy when I'm hurting you."
Kitty joining you lot made you push him away from you as you both stood on your feet. You hadn't even noticed Praveena and Lee were gone by then.
"Praveena just saved our asses. I mean, it's only our second date," she smiled but you and Minho exchanged a look.
"Date?" you scoffed.
"Kitty, she's sweet-talking an old lady whilst you're third-wheeling who used to be the hottest couple in school."
You buried your face in your hands, getting reminded of his cocky ass. "He just meant that it's not much of a date."
"Why don't you bring her skiing?"
Kitty shrugged. "That's kind of a big step." You and Min Ho sighed but Kitty's eyes then lit up. "Oh my God, I think that's it."
Following where she was pointing at, you finally located the time capsule. Min Ho was quick to get to work, grabbing it for Kitty. Once you've acquired it, you lost no time in getting the hell out of there to join Praveena who was patiently waiting outside. Kitty ran to her for a hug.
"I cannot believe that actually worked. Oh, I wish I had a way to thank you."
"Oh, please," she brushed it off.
Again, you and Min Ho exchanged a look, knowing damn well that you were thinking the exact same thing. And of course, you hated that you still had this type of dynamic.
"Praveena, do you ski?" he asked.
"No, but I snowboard."
Kitty jumped in. "Any chance you want to come with us this weekend to Min Ho's dad's ski cabin?"
"You're inviting me to the Kris Jenner of Korea's vacation home? Hell yeah I wanna come."
"Cool," Kitty giggled. "I can't wait!"
They both began to walk away. As you were about to do the same, Min Ho stopped you by grabbing your hand. You immediately broke away from his hold.
"What?"
He cocked his head to the side. "Don't make this face with me."
"What do you want?"
Seeing you were going to keep the attitude, he spoke. "I know you wanted to cause a diversion the other day, but you forgot your bracelet on the ground."
He took it out of his pocket, presenting it to you. It was still as pretty as shiny as it always has been, maybe even more.
"Min Ho," you breathed out, taking it from him.
"I got it cleaned and I wanted to give it to you when we got coffee. But my dad kind of ruined the moment, so..."
You held it to your chest. "Whatever, I'm just glad I have it back. I forgot that's when I removed it. Thank you."
He nodded. "My pleasure."
He started to walk away, but you were the one to stop him now. "I... My aunt gave me a letter from my father. I haven't opened it yet and I thought we could open it together? I mean, it would definitely help me to read it and maybe it could help you with everything going on with your dad."
He couldn't keep his smile to himself. "I would love to."
The Seollal festival was something everyone had been looking forward to, but especially Juliana. Being the one who she shared her room with now, you listened to her nervousness about exposing her art more than enough. So when it finally came, you were ecstatic to not have to hear about it. And you were also happy for her, obviously.
"Thanks for helping me with setting up the booth."
"No worries," you smiled. "I do want to get food before it runs out..."
She laughed. "Go! Anyway, Yuri should be here any minute."
You ran to get any food you could lay your hands on. It went from Korean delicacies to traditional sweets. And man those sweets were good. From afar, you caught a glimpse of Dae. He seemed to have seen you at the same time since he was already signing for you to come join him. You made your way through the crowd and finally reached him. When you spotted Bora, his little sister, you saw she was eating the same one you had just gotten for yourself.
"Bora, look! We like the same things."
Her eyes grew. "Dae keeps saying it's too sugary, but I think he has bad taste."
You crouched to whisper in her ear. "Between you and me, I think you're right."
She laughed and Dae could only sigh. "Bora, that's your last sweet," he warned and she nodded.
As you sat down, you finally noticed the happy couple who was sat just next to Bora. While you gave Stella a warm smile, you bluntly ignored Min Ho. When you were alone, you were more than happy to be friendly. In front of his new girlfriend, however, it was better to not interact to avoid any argument — that included between you and him, them, or you and her. She was your roommate, you had to have her back somehow.
"Since when do you like children?" he asked.
"You don't know everything about me. That, or you don't pay attention when I talk."
You stared at him with mischievous eyes and he quickly caught on you were simply teasing him. Two could play this game.
"Try me."
Stella put her hand on his arm. "Min Ho," she said in a warning tone.
"What? I like a challenge."
You raised an eyebrow. "Rain check on that, your girlfriend's right. Save your knowledge for trivia night at your dad's cabin."
She seemed to agree with you. "That sounds fun, we should do that instead."
He huffed. "Fine, but we'll see who knows the other better."
The rest of the event went on smoothly surprisingly. Min Ho and you did bicker a lot but Stella joined in instead of being bothered about it. In fact, she and you kind of bonded over some quirks you could not stand about Min Ho. In a way, it felt bittersweet to know she was now the one to enjoy Min Ho's chivalry. On another part, bonding with Stella allowed you to see this as a new chapter. Yes, maybe there will always be a weird tension between Min Ho and you, but you knew you could go past it.
And now, it was time for ski.
"Have you packed?" Stella asked after knocking at your door.
"I just need a few more things and I'll join you."
"I'll be waiting at the cars outside."
You exchanged a smile and you continued to pack. Min Ho did mention there would be a hot tub. And Q did encourage you to buy that one swimsuit when you went shopping. That can never hurt, right? The only thing missing now was the letter. And for the life of you, you could not find it. You were convinced you left it in the bottom drawer of your desk but it was like it vanished into thin air. To say you were frustrated would be an understatement. You were on full panic mode. This was one of the last things your dad left before dying, and your aunt entrusted you with it. How could you lose it?
Seeing that time was passing, you concluded you'd have to look for it when you'd be back. Maybe ask Kitty or Min Ho to help you. Closing your suitcase, you grabbed your coat and headed out.
Only... when you opened the door... you were at loss for words. Not even that, you completely froze at the sight in front of you.
"Covey, cars are here. Let's go!" Min Ho yelled out as he bursted in your dorm.
When his eyes landed on Kitty and Yuri kissing, his reaction was identical to yours. Joining him, you were then noticed by the pair who showed nothing but shame.
summary: while kitty explores her bi awakening, you try to navigate how to deal with being friends with min ho again, and it's not quite how you'd like it to be. especially not when stella is around.

(let me know by filling the form in my bio if you want to be added to the taglist!)
"My world got so much bigger because of you and because of Simon," Kitty read as you and Q laid in her bed, as if she was reading bedtime stories to you both. "Jina has to know something about Simon. Why else would my mom mention him in her letter?"
"Yuri emailed her mom," you pointed out.
"Yeah, but Jina's at some wellness retreat and doesn't have any service," she sighed before grunting. "It is killing me to be this close to finding the guy that my mom was so in love with that she moved here against her parents' wishes..."
She kept on rambling on about her frustrations and wonders, meanwhile Q was attempting to make sense out of it. As for you, you couldn't focus much. Eyes on the phone, you were still hoping someone would text you any moment now. You got up from Kitty's bed and dropped yourself on yours, letting out a whine in the process.
"Y/N, stop thinking about it," Q said.
You shook your head. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Kitty hummed. "So there is somebody more dramatic than me!"
You all heard laughs coming from the other room, and Kitty rolled her eyes.
"I guess Yuri and Juliana are still in their honeymoon phase, uh?" Q commented.
"They're always tickle-fighting!" Kitty exclaimed, a fake smile plastered on her face. "We basically have to tear them apart for curfew checks so the RA doesn't figure out they're a couple."
"Doesn't that bother you?"
"Oh, not at all! Their squeals of joy act as a helpful reminder for me to stay focus on my goals. It'll get rid of this silly little crush-"
Her alarm went off went off and she sighed in relief. "Thank God."
You forced yourself to get your butt up and yell "Okay, guys, break it up! Ten minutes until curfew check!"
"Thanks, Y/N!" they yelled back.
The three of you got out the room to lead Q out the door, only to be welcomed with the sight of Yuri and Juliana cuddling. While you were so happy for your friend, you couldn't help but feel bad for Kitty. I mean, you were pretty much in the same situation.
"You're really going to subject yourself to an entire semester of that?" Q asked.
"You know what they say," Kitty responded. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?"
Unconvinced, he nodded. "Right. Something's telling me this is just killing you, though, so... Good night!" he waved at you both before walking out the door.
"Girls!" Yuri called out as soon as the door closed. "You're always hiding out in your room, come hang out with us!"
"Yeah, come distract us," Juliana added. "Otherwise, an RA might walk in and catch us making out."
"Oh," Yuri said in a teasing voice.
"Sure," Kitty responded, uncomfortable.
The couple began to tease each other with jokes and stuff, making you both even more uncomfortable. They ended up deciding to hide in their bedroom, and so did you in yours. Assuming Kitty would follow, you let the door open. When you noticed she wasn't coming with you, you turned on your heels to head back to stopped yourself as soon as you heard Yuri's voice. You were never the kind to eavesdrop, doing it a little wouldn't be so bad, right?
"What about you? You going to bed?" Yuri asked.
"Soon," your friend replied. "Y/N and I are just going to wait for Stella to get home. She's on her big date with Min Ho."
Your heart tightened as a short silence fell between your friends.
Yuri was the one to break it. "I don't know why Y/N gave her his number."
"Well, she was pretty mad at him. Maybe it's her way to move on."
"But they were getting on so well at the barbecue the other night. I'm sure I even saw a spark between them."
"You heard Y/N, though. He did some fucked up shit."
They were right. Why did you give her his number if you were hoping so bad he'd text you, telling you how boring she was and how he wished you were there to save him?
That text never came.
Chores. That was your punishment for staying with the boys last semester. In the end, you were also discovered to be one of the roommates, hence why you were mopping around a classroom with the whole gang: Dae, Q, Kitty... and Min Ho, of course. So far, avoiding Min Ho had been going pretty well. You caught up on a lot of stuff with Dae, such as how he had been dealing with the break up and how things were going at his place. You did manage to get your mind away from your problems for a short amount of time. It was also a good reminder that Dae was an excellent friend.
"You're avoiding him," he nodded his head towards Min Ho.
You shrugged. "Maybe."
"He really does feel bad about your argument."
You let a breath out. "I know that you're trying to ease things between us, and I appreciate it. But I want to heal in my own way first."
He smiled apologetically. "I get it."
And as if the world was doing everything in its power to make your life miserable, the man in question decided to mop right at your feet. And as to make any worse, the guy was intentionally poking your feet every two seconds. While you glared at him as a sign to stop, he could only smile lightly, and do it again. The silent interaction went on for a few minutes, until he cleared his throat, grabbing your attention.
"I'm just not that into Stella."
Your eyes grew bigger. "Pardon me?"
"I mean, she's cute. Don't get me wrong. But, maybe she's a bit too nice?"
You scoffed. "Is this where you're the playboy wanting to corrupt the good girl, and you're just mad because you're not getting anywhere with her?"
He threw his head back, letting a laugh out. "Please, I already did that with you." Instant blush. "I just think she's boring. Why are you so focused on my love life anyway, pup?"
It took everything in you to not let it show you were hearing exactly what you wanted to hear. "You tell me, you're the one who brought it up. But to answer your question, I'm not," you faked his accent.
"I actually miss the two of you bickering like this," Dae commented, reminding you he had been there the entire time.
"Am I still the only one who's irritated by her?" Min Ho groaned. "It's her and Covey's fault that we're cleaning the building for my dad's vanity project."
Q chuckled. "Guys, there could be way worse punishments. Like your dad forcing everyone to take one of his arts electives. Except for me! Your boy got an exemption. The star of KISS' track team needs to focus on getting gold at regionals."
"I'm taking Entertainment Management," Kitty informed.
"Yeah, same. Kind of sounds interesting," you affirmed.
"Me too," Min Ho said as he winked at you, making you blush again. "It's the only one without singing or dancing."
"I signed up for Advanced Voice," Dae informed casually.
Kitty turned around slowly, doubt on her face. "You sing? How did I not know this?"
"Because we were long-distance, and it's weird to serenade someone over the phone."
"I think we should hear something," Q encouraged as the four of you positioned yourself to be his audience.
"Now, like, here?"
"No, next year," Q joked.
"Yes," you and Min Ho said in unison.
"I wanna hear it," Q said.
"Yes, right now," Kitty rushed him.
In an instant, Dae jumped on top of a desk amd began to sing his heart out. Frankly, it was one of the prettiest voices you've heard. If this was his hidden talent, who knew what else he was capable of? The fun was cut short once Principal Lee walked in the room, visibly bothered byt the concert.
"This is a punishment for secretly living with Ms. Covey and Ms. Park last semester." At the sound, you straightened your posture, now face to face with the principal. "No fun!"
The moment you thought you were done for, Min Ho's father walked in with some of his employees following behind. You exchanged glances with Min Ho, who shrugged as to show he was as perplexed as you were.
"Okay, kids, you're dismissed. My cleaning crew will take care of it," Mr. Moon announced, Principal Lee shaking his head in disapproval.
"Wait, you can't overrule me on student matters."
"Renovations must begin today to stay on schedule, unless you also want my donation delayed."
Mr. Lee paused before his shoulders dropped in defeat. "Students, you're dismissed. For today."
The adults left one after the other until only the five of you were left in the room once again. It was a matter of seconds before you exploded in laughter, feeling somewhat relieved as well.
"I have never seen anyone talk to Professor Lee like that," Dae commented.
"I mean, he kind of ate," Q added.
Kitty squealed. "Mr. Moon forever!"
Min Ho let out a chuckle before he went on to gather the cleaning materials. You grabbed some yourself and left with him to put them back where they belong. You wanted to speak, say something. Only, nothing came to your mind that was slightly interesting. Even less after learning he had close to no interest in Stella. For the few eye contacts you had, small smiles were exchanged. But again, nothing more.
As your aunt told you, you stopped by her office before going to your Entertainment Management class. While you were having a harsh return, you did realize you hadn't visited her since school started. Knocking at her office's door, she immediately yelled for you to come in. As you stepped in, you immediately noticed the bags beneath her eyes.
"Are you killing yourself with work again?"
She might have looked exhausted, but she didn't let it stop her from laughing at your comment. "I'm trying to slow down, but you know me. And with Jina gone, things are working out differently this semester."
"Tell me about it... The curfew checks are getting annoying."
She nodded, and then picked a letter up. "I'm glad you came. I wanted to show this to you."
You took the piece of paper from her before reading the information on it. Frowning, you held it up to her again. "It's not addressed to me, it's for you."
"I know, but it's from your father. While cleaning this week, I rediscovered it and thought you might want to have a look at it."
Your expression softened and you took her hand, grateful. "Thank you. Anyway, I just wanted to see you a bit and let you know that things are settling down."
"I'm glad. Have you seen Min Ho? Seriously, that guy is handsome! What a shame it had to end."
You rolled your eyes. "And that is my cue to leave for class."
You could hear her from behind as you left as she was trying to either apologize or reinforce her point. Either way, you were far too gone to hear any of it, and you went to join Kitty at the cafeteria. Phone in her hands, she was trying to contact another retreat center in hopes Jina would be there. You started to walk and she mindlessly followed, phone now glued to her ear. They didn't answer until you reached class.
"Hey, could you connect me to Jina Lim's room? She's a guest at your resort," she spoke but her disappointed look was all it took for you to understand the call went nowhere. "Oh, my mistake. She must be staying at another property. Thank you."
As she hung up, you patted her shoulder. "You'll get a hold of her. Want me to ask Yuri?"
She groaned. "I did already, but she can't even reach her mom herself, so I guess it makes sense I'm not getting anywhere."
As you scanned the room to find a seat, your eyes landed on Stella, who just happened to be sitting next to Min Ho. The class you were almost excited to attend was now definitely the one you'd hate the most. Still, Min Ho gestured the seat next to him so you allowed yourself to take the spot, and Kitty sat on your other side.
"Hey, do you know who our teacher is?" she asked the pair.
"I'm just glad I won't have to perform. I'm still scarred from playing the donkey in my church's Nativity play," Stella replied. "But I'm guessing, you know, with your dad, you'll have a record deal, blockbuster movie out soon?"
You could only roll your eyes — though you did it mentally. She didn't know him, and it showed. Your inner comments were confirmed as soon as Min Ho opened his mouth.
"Yeah, not my thing."
"Imagine," you said in an ironic tone, making him chuckle lightly.
The door finally opened, revealing who your teacher would be. You were unsurprised to see Mr. Moon step in, as flamboyant as ever.
"Good afternoon," he greeted.
Min Ho' glanced at him for a second only to look at you with panicked eyes. "Oh my gosh."
"And congratulations. Out of all the new arts courses offered at KISS, you lucky few have stumbled into a masterclass." his dad continued.
"Masterclass, my ass," Min Ho said under his breath, you being the only person to laugh at his comment.
"But, I have news for you. Being a successful manager isn't something one can teach."
"Then why is this a class?" Min Ho commented once more, looking so done.
"It comes down to trusting your gut. And today, you will determine who will earn a spot in Advanced Voice class and who will get their mic cords cut."
Kitty raised her hand. "Uh, Mr. Moon, I don't know enough about singing to be an effective-"
"Knowledge is so overrated," he cut her off. "My strongest opinions are on things I know almost nothing about."
"And that's my dad..." Min Ho sighed.
"I really wonder why you didn't want me to meet him," you joked only to receive a glare.
"Y/N, are you seeing the same man that I am seeing right now?" he gestured to his father.
"Yeah, an icon."
He huffed in frustration, but you could only laugh more at his reaction. As you were about to say something else, you met Stella's eyes. She was obviously telling you to back off. Who was she to tell you so? If anything, she should be grateful you gave her Min Ho's number even if he was your ex.
"Let's bring in the aspiring singers!" Mr Moon exclaimed.
Class went by quickly and, frankly, your feedbacks were written half-consciously. For most of them, you wrote some sweet comments with one or two flaws. Except for Dae, because he is a friend who just happens to be an excellent singer. At the end of the class, Mr. Moon went over everyone's feedback quickly — noting that Stella was being too kind and that Min Ho was a perfect critic — before class was dismissed.
"Y/N, you coming?" Min Ho said the moment the bell rang.
"Where?"
He shook his head in annoyance. "Just, come with me."
"Alright, my bad," you groaned.
Putting your belongings in your bag, you followed him out. You could hardly catch up to him as he was running out that room as fast as he could.
"Would you slow down?"
"Stop whining. I forgot how irritating that sound of yours is," he said in a huff.
"Well, why did you want me to leave class with you if I'm oh-so fun to be around?" you asked, growing impatient.
He stopped, making you almost run into his back. "Avoiding my dad and Stella. I feel comfortable with you so I guess you were my easy way out."
You took his hand — only as a friend — and rubbed it in a reassuring way. "You'll get through the semester just fine, I promise."
He let a chuckle out. "Well, if you and Covey are there, probably not."
You slapped his arm. "That's what I get for being nice?"
Satisfied his mocking worked, he laughed some more. "Is coffee going to make up for it?"
You perked an eyebrow. "Am I paying for it or-"
"On me," he said as if it was obvious.
Satisfied, you dragged him behind as you still had a grip on his hand. With a few protests, he tried to break away but gave in soon enough since you were clearly not going to let go of him.
Maybe he missed the two of you bickering like this as well.
It would have been a fun moment between you two if it wasn't for Mihee thanking Min Ho for getting into Advanced Voice which got Min Ho to go speak about it with his dad who kind of got into his head as he showered him with hopes and compliments... All that, and you had to follow him around like a literal lost puppy.
"I'll go," you said once you left his father.
He frowned. "What do you mean? We barely had time for ourselves."
"Exactly," you exhaled before clearing your throat. "I get this wasn't your fault, but I don't want to be your pet, following you while you do your stuff. That's what I did in L.A. and I don't it to happen again."
"Y/N," he tried to interfere but you didn't let him.
"And, please, let down Stella easily. She's nice, but she'll still give me death glares if you keep leading her on."
And with that, you left him there.
Kitty threw a dress on your bed... while you were laying in bed. You took the piece of clothing, looking at it up and down, and stood up to put it back in the wardrobe — where it belonged.
"Oh, come on!"
You threw yourself back on your mattress, pulling your phone out again. "I said I was not going."
"You're leaving me alone?"
You gave her a look. "It's a date, Kitty. The purpose of a date is to go one-on-one. Not with your friend as an extra."
She groaned. "But how am I not going to make a fool of myself?"
You shrugged, still on your phone. "Yuri and Juliana will be there too, no? They're getting ready as we speak."
Distressed, she took a huge pile of clothes from her drawer and dropped it on her own bed. "Help me out instead of making fun of my misery."
You ended up doing so because, well, you were her friend and you also did enjoy dressing her up. However, as soon as she was dolled up, you were back to being a couch potato. You didn't even hear the girls leave, and with Stella being gone wherever she was, you were left alone in the dorm.
Hunger got the best of you eventually, which made you check in the refrigerator what food you had left. Eggs and fizzy drinks were not going to fill your belly, so you took it upon yourself to change into a decent outfit. Once dressed, it was time to head to the department store near school so you could buy instant ramen for the hundredth time already.
Min Ho: Can we talk?
You saw the message, but ignored it. You had one goal in mind: food. While the fresh air hit you as soon as you opened the door, you got used to it quickly and rushed yourself to the store. Only then you spotted a familiar figure. Min Ho, again.
"For fuck's sake," you cursed under your breath as you tried to act as if you didn't spot him yet.
Thankfully, he was on his phone. You checked yours and he was, indeed, in the process of writing you another message. You almost found his attempt at reaching you cute. There was a lot of debating happening in your brain whether to text him back, come up to him, or even offer for him to go get food with you. The universe decided for you when his father appeared, walking furiously towards his son.
"Mihee dropped Advanced Voice," he said, anger spread through his entire body language. "You tipped her off, didn't you?"
"Well-" Min Ho started.
"You went around my back just to protect her feelings."
Again, you hated eavesdropping, but with how loud Mr. Moon was speaking, he didn't make it any easier. You poorly tried to hide behind a tree closeby. While you didn't like where this was going, you couldn't intervene. Not yet.
"I don't know why I thought you had what it takes to be a manager. I gave you a chance to step up and impress me," he continued, growing angrier by the second. "And instead, you threw it away for some loser who can't even sing."
"Don't talk to him like that."
Min Ho turned around and his eyes immediately softened when they landed on you. The words left your mouth without your knowledge, giving you no choice but to approach the duo.
"This is a private conversation between father and son."
"Well, you're a crappy father. Not just from what I am seeing right now, but also from everything I've heard about you. Min Ho does have what it takes to be a manager, more than you do with this tired Simon Cowell routine from 2002,"
You looked at Min Ho real quick to see if he would try to stop you, but he was speechless. Letting you steal the show, he was almost admiring you.
You took it as a sign to continue. "For a man who claims to have his finger on the pulse, you should know that bullying is so over, Mr. Moon. It's really a miracle you haven't been canceled."
His jaw clenched. "You certainly have a lot to say, don't you?" is all he said before taking off.
Not a sound could be heard after that. You didn't dare to look at Min Ho, not after the stunt you pulled. You had no idea what took over you.
"I'm sorry... I-" you started but left, embarrassed.
Only, you were stopped by a hand grabbing you by the arm. "No, wait," he said, turning your body to face him. "Y/N, where did that come from?"
"I don't know, it sort of just... came out? Seeing you being yelled at, I just snapped. And with everything you told me about him, I don't want you to suffer more than you already have."
He took both of your hands, grazing on your skin with his thumbs. "I've never had someone who'd stand up for me that way, so thank you."
You nodded shyly. "I just hope I didn't make things worse."
"You did quite the opposite. I think you impressed him. I bet he thinks you're a real badass," he chuckled. "It's a shame it's when we're not together anymore. He would have approved."
You didn't know what to respond, so you nodded again. "I should go, then."
His grip got firmer, a sign he didn't want you to leave. "Can I be honest with you?"
"Sure."
He gulped. "I'm sorry for kind of using you as some decoration I can bring wherever I want. That's never what you were to me and it will never be."
By default, your bodies kept getting closer to one another. Everything around you was like fog to you, there was only him and the sound of your heartbeat. A voice in your head told you to get away, to learn from the mistakes of the past. Another was screaming for you to play your cards right, and let him be back in your life again. In a word, divided. That's how you were feeling.
You raised an eyebrow, now curious. "What am I to you, then?"
"Hopefully, this."
Before either of you could process, you were kissing. It truly felt like your lips were meant to be together as they moved in sync. Your arms wrapped around his neck while his were placed on your waist. It felt... like home. And you hated that you loved it so much.
What you hated even more was seeing Stella behind him once you pulled away.
summary: the first day back, and you already find yourself into a whirlwind of emotions, mainly caused by one guy you had been dreading to see for weeks.

The holiday season was, by far, the time of the year you were the happiest. The music, the activities, the food, the people you'd spend that time with... That was the problem this year.
Getting to know Min Ho's mother was a blessing in itself. She welcomed you in her home with open arms — although she wasn't home often — and was nothing but a sweetheart to you. While the first days you spent in L.A. were close to what some would call the dream, you didn't love it so much. The people, who were far too superficial to your liking, and the house — being seven times bigger than your place in Korea — were two factors that totally removed the holiday spirit.
The third one would be Min Ho.
"Are you here yet?" you heard from your phone.
Three weeks had gone by since the incident, which meant that school was starting again. In your opinion, the winter break should have lasted much longer than this. Not only because you were dreading the amount of schoolwork you would get, but also because you knew there would be faces you just weren't ready to see again.
"I just got in the taxi," you chuckled as an answer. "Did you save me a bed?"
"I did, but your room won't be with me and Juliana," Yuri informed you, a glint of guilt in her voice.
"Don't worry, as long as we have a dorm together."
You kept chatting for a bit until the car pulled in front of KISS. Your aunt turned around to face you from the driving seat, and you could see the worry on her face. While she had made sure to take care of you the best she could, you weren't doing any better. You knew she couldn't help but feel like it was her fault.
"Who was it?" she asked.
"Yuri."
"I'm glad she is around. At least, you'll have someone to lean on."
You scoffed. "I don't need a babysitter or a daily therapist."
"Just," she breathed out. "Try to enjoy yourself. Like before, don't hesitate to stop by my office if you need anything. Your uncle is also there if you-"
"Thanks," you said dryly, hurrying yourself to get out the car.
It felt both strange and familiar being back here. With a sigh, you gathered your luggage and began to head towards the entrance. It wasn't long until you were engulfed into a hug, one so warm that it wasn't hard to guess who it was.
"Get off," you whined jokingly.
"I didn't see you for a month, let me be clingy for a day, will you?" Q argued as he let go. "Did you get taller?"
You rolled your eyes. "A month isn't that long!"
"Can you just let me be sweet and tell you I missed you? Jeez, I forgot how grumpy you could be..."
You smacked his arm lightly, finally letting a laugh out. "Fine, I did miss you too."
"Knew it," he smiled satisfactorily. His eyes were quick to shift from you to something behind you — or rather someone. "Look who's back!"
Turning around, it took you a second to spot Kitty discuss with Professor Lee — now Principal Lee for obvious reasons — and Alex. Q didn't skip a beat in abandoning you to run towards Kitty. In his defence, he was most likely the one who was most excited to see Kitty when it was made known that Yuri brought her back to KISS. You wouldn't admit it out-loud but she truly was one of the few people you were looking forward to see again.
"Holy shit! There's my chaos queen!" Q almost screamed before hugging Kitty, definitely tighter than with you.
Kitty squealed as they reunited. "Dude, I'm so happy to see you!"
"Me too," he squealed back.
This was definitely a show for you to see as you slowly made your way to join the pair. Kitty finally saw you and hugged you just about the same, blabbering about how she couldn't believe she was back to see Q and you again. The excitement in her died down quickly, though, as she remembered she was next to Principal Lee.
"Also, so happy to share with you both how serious I'm going to take my classes this year at KISS."
You held back a giggle. "Right, yes!"
"That's literally what we've been saying this whole time," Q added, playing along.
A call interrupted Principal Lee's watch party which allowed both of your friends to squeal once more, much to your ears' demise.
"We have so much to talk-" Kitty began to say, only for Alex to cut the conversation short.
"Dad's been feeling a little bit stressed," he informed, something you found so odd to come out of his mouth. "I've been staying with him over the break. We're in, like, some hilarious buddy comedy."
As much as you appreciated Alex, you wanted nothing more but to be elsewhere at this exact moment. Not that you weren't glad he was getting to spend time with his father, but the way he was telling you about it was almost... cringe? (No, it definitely was.)
"Alex!" Principal Lee called out.
"Yeah, I'm coming! I'd better go," he said as he began to walk away. "Kitty, I'm really happy you're back."
Kitty responded with a warm smile. "Thanks. Me too."
Once Alex left, Q helped Kitty get her luggage while you tried to somehow make your two traveling bags work, stacking one on top of another.
"You okay there, Y/N?" Kitty laughed.
"Maybe I need a hand?" you smiled awkwardly, looking at Q specifically.
"Give me your bag already."
The three of you finally walked into the campus, as many other students did the same. The breath smelled like home, but the ambiance had a twinge of foreign energy. Maybe they changed the decoration. Maybe you had to get used to seeing younger new students everywhere. Maybe there was a little something you were still not ready to confront and being back didn't help...
"Crap, I wanted to ask Lee about that Simon guy from my mom's letter," Kitty said, disappointed a bit.
"You have all semester to find Simon," Q stated.
Kitty shook her head. "No, I am done wasting time. At home everyone was asking me questions. Lara Jean, Margot and even Peter because he practically lives at our house on school breaks."
And that was also what you did for an entire week of your school break. You won't do the same mistake again, that's for sure.
"They wanted to know what I learned about my mom," she continued. "How my Korean was... And I realized, I hadn't really learn anything about my mom. Like, not actually. And I almost flunked out. My Hangul sucks... So this semester, it's Kitty 2.0. I'm living in a single, I'm going to be single."
You really did forget how much of a yapper she was. It might be annoying at times but you were thankful she was there to fill in the lack of interaction on your part. For some reason, the ground was much more interesting, so were the trees. Since when were there that many trees on campus? Were they always there?
"I think it's kind of a shame to be swearing off love right after you discover you're bi," Q sighed.
"No, I didn't say I'd be a monk, okay?" Kitty defended. "I want to try dating girls."
Well, that was always an option for you to discover too, if some things were to happen. By things, you meant one, really.
"But maybe someone outside my direct friend group. Less potential for drama."
Sometimes, it is worth it to listen entirely to what Kitty had to say. Most of the time, her struggles didn't apply to you. On that case, however, this was a good plan: not date in your friend group. Easy, no? You won't do the mistake again.
"But," Q sighed again. "Can you really be over Yuri already? I mean, she got you back into KISS."
"Lara Jean convinced me to write a goodbye letter to Yuri," Kitty answered, as if she had been prepared for any scenario. You wished she could give you some of that energy. "Just like she did for all the boys she loved. And I brought that letter with me so I can reread it in case I find myself slipping into old habits. You know that you can write one for Florian, and you can write one for Min Ho."
You raised an eyebrow as to tell her you would never, but this was something to consider. At this point, if it wasn't obvious already, you were doing everything you could to forget about your ex-boyfriend.
Q, as for him, shook his head. "Actually, Florian made it really easy to get over him by being a lying, cheating dumbass that almost cost Dae his scholarship."
"You did the right thing, turning him in," Kitty said with an approving nod.
"I also didn't mean to trigger an investigation that caused a bunch of other students to be expelled too," Q said along with a chuckle to hide his discomfort. "I guess we're both chaos queens."
"Clearly, Y/N isn't."
You shot your head up at the mention of your name, looking at the two in confusion. "Sorry, what?"
"Are you alright? You've been awfully quiet," Kitty asked, concern in her voice.
"I-" you began only for Q to cut you off.
"Oh, look. There are the boys," he gestured right in front of you three. "Dae! Min Ho!"
The said-boys had just picked their coffee order as they spotted Q calling them out, spotting Kitty and you as well in the process. Suddenly, it felt like the entire world stopped, but not in a good way. For what felt like minutes, Min Ho and you held eye contact. You tried to decipher what his eyes were telling you; was he sad? Mad? Scared? You weren't sure. He had always been good at hiding how he was truly feeling. What you knew was that you certainly weren't feeling so good. Seeing him after things fell apart was like a knife stabbing you in an already opened wound. At the same time, your body was almost being pulled to his... You wondered if he was feeling the same.
You saw him gulp before he broke your staring session, pulling Dae away from your sight with him. It was a matter of seconds before you couldn't see either of them.
"That was weird, right?" Q said, confusion spread onto his face. "What was that about?"
"Oh, they probably just didn't see us," Kitty tried to shrug it off but Q didn't buy it.
"No, they definitely saw us."
"I'll go find my room," you muttered, wanting nothing but to leave.
"Yeah, I'll do the same! I'll see you at the assembly."
He gave you both a look but didn't insist on it. "All right," he sighed, giving you back your bag.
"Thank you," you smiled as you and Kitty change directions, now walking towards the girls dormitories.
"You saved me, there," Kitty thanked you.
"Saved us both, you mean," you corrected.
"Right, I keep forgetting. It's just, it was going so well between you two. It's still surreal to me that it didn't work out."
You scoffed. "Blame Min Ho for that."
"I just wish you didn't have to go through this alone."
"I'm fine, I promise," you lied, though she probably could tell you were hiding your pain.
"If you need anything, my door is always open! Speaking of..." she said as you arrived at her dorm.
As soon as she tapped her key card on the sensor, the door flew open, revealing Yuri in all of her glory. You quickly put two and two together, concluding this was also your dorm and that you would share it with Kitty, Yuri and Juliana. That's something you were comfortable with. As for Kitty, her face told you she didn't have the same thoughts as you.
"Kitty, I missed you so much!" Yuri exclaimed, hugging her tightly at the same time. "And Y/N!" she said, hugging you too. "You've been sobbing on your own for too long. I was starting to think you wouldn't show up."
You laughed slightly. "It's good to see you, Yuri."
She went for another hug with Kitty, who told her she missed her just the same while her face remained as shocked.
"I thought about you all break, and I was so excited you were coming back," Yuri said.
"Me too," Kitty answered. "And I only got to come back because of you."
"And now," she started, looking at the two of you. "We get to live together?" she said with amazement, earning a confused look frim Kitty.
"What? I signed up for a single. There must be a mistake."
"This is not a mistake. This is fate," Yuri affirmed with conviction.
"What's that about fate?" someone behind Yuri, who could only be Juliana, asked.
"Hey, Kitty. I'm Juliana. Oh, hey, Y/N'" she waved at you before focusing back on Kitty. "It's nice to finally met the girl that helped me and Yuri get back together."
Yuri agreed happily. "Can you believe this? The four of us are roommates? A dream come true. Especially with you," she nudged your arm. "It'll do you some good, I promise."
"Thanks, Yuri," you said gratefully. "Shall we come in?"
"Oh my, yes, of course!" Yuri exclaimed before making way for you and Kitty to come inside.
The dorm was slightly different than last year. While all the furniture looked rather similar, the arrangement of the rooms were different. There was a room with two beds, which was obviously taken by the couple given their clothes were already in the process of being transferred into the closets. The other room had a bunk bed and a single on on the other side of the room. With the number of students increasing each year, it made sense that the room had an additional resident.
As you settled slowly but surely, you all refrouped around the kitchen counter, taking the moment to, again, rejoice about your reunion.
"Wow! This... I didn't... Wow!" Kitty stammered and it took everything in you to not react to her clumsy behaviour
"I think Kitty's at a loss for words," Juliana chuckled and you allowed yourself to copy her.
"I had no idea you were staying on campus this semester," Kitty said to Yuri.
"Oh. Last-minute decision. I had to get out of my parents' place," she sighed, pouring herself some tea in the process. "Bad vibes there... They're getting divorced."
"What?" Kitty exclaimed.
You made your way around the kitchen counter, putting your hand on your friend's shoulder. "I'm so sorry! You should have told me, I would have been there for you."
She shrugged. "It's fine, you weren't exactly able to help be with it, anyway... Honestly, it should have happened years ago. Now, my mom's in Thailand, off the grid at some wellness center, rejuvenating."
There was a small knot forming in your guts as the guilt for not being as available as usual spread in you. Nonetheless, she did send a smirk your way as to show she wasn't that mad. A relief.
"But let's talk about how much fun we're gonna have living together! I can't wait for you three to get to know each other." she said enthusiastically before turning to her girlfriend.
Kitty's emotions were very clear in her face. Panic, discomfort, and hurt. To save her from making it even more obvious to the girls about her crush, you nudged her arm which seemed to bring her back from her headspace.
"Hello?" a voice called out at the entrance. Seconds later, a girl walked in, bringing with her a few suitcases. "Hi, I'm Stella. Stella Cho. Give me one second... This place is like twelve times bigger than my old school," she muttered as she caught her breath.
You exchanged looks with Kitty before focusing back on the girl.
"And, here is the last roommate," you greeted her kindly. "I'm Y/N. And this is Juliana, her girlfriend Yuri-"
"Wow," she breathed out, looking at the couple. "They let you guys live together?"
Yuri shook her head. "They don't know. If they did, they wouldn't let us live together."
"And there's a rumor going around that they're implementing room checks every single night, so we have to be extra careful," Juliana added.
"Well, my lips are sealed!"
"Oh, and I'm Kitty," your friend pitched in. "You can bunk with me and Y/N."
"Oh, cool! Um, can one of you show me how to get to the administration office? I still have to register‐"
"Yes, I can show you. Right now," Kitty offered, a bit too fast in your opinion. "If you don't sign up ASAP, you'll end up with the worst professors, so let's go."
"Wait, wait," Yuri stopped them."Before you go, we are planning a fun group barbecue dinner tonight, on me. Are you guys in? 7:00 p.m.?"
"Of course I'm in," you cheered.
Stella's eyes grew bigger, so did her smile. "Are you kidding? I would love that."
"Uh..." Kitty started and you knew it would be, yet, another poor attempt at excusing herself. "Dang. I wish I could, but I promised my sisters that I would FaceTime them and tell them about the first day back, so..."
Juliana's eyebrow went up. "Won't it be like 2:00 a.m. in Portland?"
Kitty smiled awkwardly. "Indeed, it will be. Yes. Good point. Well, I'm... I'm in. " She turned to Stella, pushing her towards the door. "Let's leave right now."
"They're in," Juliana repeated before walking up to the refrigerator.
Yuri gave you a look. "Is she okay?"
You shrugged. "Kitty? She's always like that."
"I guess I just forgot. She didn't exactly reach out to me during the break. Speaking of which, you also sort of disappeared after the break up."
Your shoulders dropped. "I don't want to get into it."
"You've been saying this for a month! I really think talking about what happened to a friend will help you deal with your emotions."
Something you noticed since the previous semester was that you struggled much more with opening up than you thought. With Min Ho, you started to think you could finally reveal yourself fully to people. However, he quickly made you move three steps back from the improvement you made. Especially in terms of your parents.
"He cheated?"
A small laugh left your lips. "He did not. He... He crashed out, basically."
"In English, please! I want to help too," Juliana joined in, already chewing her granola bar.
You took a deep breath before jumping into the story of how things unfolded. "The first two or three days were fine. I was mostly staying at the house, to be honest. Min Ho was out clubbing, that night. I didn't go, I was too tired. His mom had just left for some meeting and she still wasn't back. Anyway, when he got back, I don't know what took over him. He said some unclear stuff about me ruining everything." You stopped for a second to recollect your emotions as you felt the tears at the brim of your eyes. "He blamed me for his mom leaving him again. When I tried to reason with him, he burst out by saying I couldn't understand him since I didn't have any parents."
Yuri took your hand, rubbing the top of it with her thumb. "Y/N, I'm so sorry."
"I didn't even wait until morning to leave. I packed, booked a last-minute flight, and left." You paused. "What hurt the most is that he didn't even apologize. And he didn't try to stop me from leaving. It's like he had no remorse."
"It's Min Ho," Juliana said. "He has no consideration for people other than himself."
"I would argue with that," Yuri disagreed. "But yes, this was a dick move."
You could feel your breath get caught in your throat, which was a sign for you to stop talking about it. "Anyway, should we go to the assembly? We wouldn't want to be late."
And with that, you picked up your purse and headed straight out of the dorm, leaving the two girls with nothing but worry about you.
"Students, please take your seats so we can begin!" Principal Lim spoke up on stage, waiting a few seconds for students to quiet down. "Thank you. Students, faculty, and distinguished board of directors, welcome to spring semester at the Korean Independent School of Seoul..."
"How long is this going to last?" Juliana whined.
"Knowing him, hours probably," you answered only to be responded by a groan. "Complain all you want but I haven't seen the one person I'm avoiding, so I'm pretty glad we're in it for hours."
"You're unbelievable."
"I'd take this over facing Min Ho any day."
Yuri sent a look your way. "You do know you will have to face him one way or another, right?"
"And I'll do everything to push that moment as far as I can."
"Well..."
You knew that tone too well. "Yuri," you said in a warning voice.
"He'll be there tonight..."
"Yuri," you repeated, a bit louder this time.
"I didn't know he was that much of a jerk to you!"
You crossed your arms on your chest, not wanting to continue this conversation. It was evident that what happened would affect the friend group. You just didn't expect it to be so soon. And, of course, who were you to make your friends choose between Min Ho and you? After all, you hadn't reacted so well to Min Ho's outburst. As much as he insulted you, you had your fair share of names you called him: spoiled, entitled, narcissist, obnoxious, fake... You hadn't been much of an angel either.
"Moving on to point number four," Lee continued as you focused back on his announcement. "Nightly curfew checks for all dormitory students."
Your two friends grunted at the statement, rolling their eyes as well. Their annoyance did not last long as club music began to blast within the entire auditorium before the lights shut off. The doors suddenly flew open revealing Young Moon, also famously known as your ex-boyfriend's father. With back up dancers following him, he trotted all the way to the stage with a confidence that Min Ho definitely inherited. An entrance that was television worthy let's say.
"Are you ready, Korean Independent School of Seoul?"
Choreography, flashy smiles, interaction with the crowd... You were starting to wonder if you were at school or at a concert for a second. A few more dance moves, and the music finally died down, leaving a stressed Principal Lee on stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Mr. Moon spoke in the microphone. "It is time to shoot for the moon and..."
"Land amongst the stars!" the majority of the students continued in shouts.
"You heard it here first," he kept talking. "Moon Management is launching a performing arts program that will make your school the envy of the entire world. And just maybe one of you will be my next superstar."
The crowd cheered once more. Meanwhile, to say you were thrilled would be a lie. Min Ho told you how his father really was. This, it was for show and show only. Looking around at the students who were screaming still, your heart stopped when you saw him again, leaning on a wall at the back of the room. His face had no expression, meaning he was deeply unimpressed with how his father was acting on the other side of the auditorium. He hadn't changed much, you noticed. His hair still fell perfectly on his face; his jawline was still sharper than a knife; his lips seemed even softer than you remembered it... You looked elsewhere before your body would do something out of your control, like walk up to him.
"I'm thinking this blazer," Kitty showed you.
"Cute," you smiled.
Stella, for her part, took a crocheted sweater out of her suitcase. "And I think this is cute, no?"
"With the dress, it's perfect," you approved but Stella could only frown.
"Are you not coming?"
You shrugged. "I don't know. It's been a pretty long day."
Your friend, stubborn like she is, shook her head in disapproval before pulling out a knitted cropped shirt with elongated black pants from the drawer you had previously filled that morning. "You're coming with us, and you're wearing this."
"I love you, and I like your enthusiasm, but no."
"Y/N, it's my second chance at studying here. If I can finally be with all my friends again on the first day, I want you there with me. It won't be the same otherwise."
Her little pouty face was enough for you to suck it up and agree to come along.
An hour later, and the five roommates were walking together to the barbecue restaurant that Yuri picked out. In the end, Kitty was right and taking some fresh air with your friends was probably what you needed. And so what if you met Min Ho? You could always ignore him.
"Kitty!"
All of your eyes turned to the voice and you found Dae. As sweet-looking as he is, he happily hugged Kitty before finally seeing you were there too, embracing you as well.
"It's so good to see you," Kitty exclaimed, all giddy and shit. "I'm so sorry we didn't get a chance to talk earlier."
"Right, speaking of which..." he started and then turned to you. "Can you do me a favor?"
"Me?" you asked, mostly surprised.
"I know I'm asking a lot of you, but can you talk to Min Ho?"
"Dae-"
"He's mad that his dad is here, but I feel like he's also upset about... you know. I think he wants to go over what happened with you, but he's not brave enough to do so. Besides, I feel like he is still upset because of me. I went a bit crazy accusing him and I hate thinking it might have ruined our, but also your relationship."
"You had nothing to do with it, I promise. And..." You stopped to glance at him for a moment. "I'll talk to him."
"Thank you," he said gratefully.
Him and Kitty didn't waste a second to leave you some space as they joined your other friends who were already chatting in front of the restaurant's door. You broke your focus on them to bring it to the back of Min Ho's head. Fiddling with your fingers, you hesitated. But then, you couldn't let Dae down. And maybe you couldn't let yourself get away from the opportunity to speak on the fact.
"Min Ho!"
As soon as he turned around, it was that same feeling you'd been having every time you saw his face today. As much as you wanted to hate him, you couldn't. Not only that, but his perfect features reminded of better days, something you were still secretly holding onto.
"Walk with me?"
As soon as the words left your mouth, a small smile appeared on his face. Silently, he left the others to join your side and you began to stroll around mindlessly. It reminded you a little too much of other nights like these. You hoped he could see how much energy you were putting into not accidentally grabbing his hand.
"I-" he tried to say but stopped himself. "When you left, there was this voice in my head telling me to go after you."
"But you didn't."
He let a breath out. "I didn't think you'd want to talk after-"
"I know," you exhaled. "But I wanted you to. And when you didn't even try to stop me, let alone apologize, it... It broke my heart ten times more."
"I don't want to hear it... How much I hurt you, I mean. I was an idiot, I was drunk, and I was mad at life."
"As you always are, just saying."
He rolled his eyes but you both found the humor in it as small smiles appeared on your faces. "I'm truly sorry about what I said. I did not mean any of it."
"And I'm sorry for accusing you of being things that you aren't. Clearly, I was mad at life too."
"You were mad at me," he corrected.
"That's what I'm saying, yeah."
A blush appeared on his cheeks. Oh, how much you missed having this much effect on him.
"I'm not saying I want this to-"
"Of course not-"
"I still think you're an ass."
"And I still think you're annoying."
"It was a way for the universe to tell us this was not worth it."
"Yeah, who were we to think it would work out in the first place?"
"We were idiots."
"Yeah."
A silence settled between the two of you. For a minute or so, neither looked at each other and you even thought he didn't allow himself to breathe so he wouldn't make a sound. Finally, you decided to speak up.
"But you did smile," you said in the smallest voice possible.
"I'm sorry?" he leaned down to hear you better.
"When I implied just now that you were my life, you smiled. So, why did you if you supposedly believe we were stupid to think we were a match?" you asked in a challenging voice.
You could see in his eyes that it awoke something in him, a playful side of him that you hadn't seen in what felt like years.
"That was a grimace, puppy."
You shut your eyes in annoyance. "Oh gosh, you're still as much of a dick as I remember."
He smirked. "You remember my dick, uh?"
"Moon Min Ho, I swear to God, I will-"
"Guys?" You fucking thanked Dae mentally. "Our table's ready." He looked between you two, unsure if your conversation had turned on the negative or positive side. "All good?"
"Yeah," Min Ho answered. "Just telling Y/N how happy I am I won't have to be her servant by making her coffee every morning again."
You shook your head in disapproval. "Hmm, and I was telling him how great it is to not be living with a control freak who protects his skin care products like it's his children."
Dae laughed, seeing it was pure harmless bickering. "I see."
He went in, and the two of you followed behind closely. Yuri made the reservation, meaning there was more than enough room to fit the entire group. You were about 10 people in total and, in all honesty, it felt great to not be alone for once. Sure, one of the people was your ex, but at least you cleared the air a bit. As you sat down, you introduced Stella to Min Ho, figuring she would appreciate not getting left out for being the new girl. The three of you chattered for a while and it was incredible to you how you were so at ease with Min Ho around compared to earlier that day.
Yuri then made a toast, stopping everyone from talking. "Thank you for coming, everyone. I hope you all had a great break. Mine was kind of a mixed bag, to be honest." All of your breaks were one hell of a ride, you thought. " But the thing that kept me going was knowing that, no matter how messed up my family is, and they can be very very messed up..." This earned a mutual chuckle. "They're not my only family. I made a little family of my own here last semester. So this dinner is really to say thank you to all of you here. Cheers!"
You collectively clang your glasses together, and it took you no time to dig in your plates. You hadn't had bibimbap in a while so you didn't stop yourself from stuffing your mouth.
"Want mine?" Min Ho offered, almost in a mocking way.
"You've seen me in worse states," you grumbled, food still in your mouth.
"No really," he insisted, putting the one he grabbed for himself in front of you. "Take it."
"Y/N?"
Your head shot from your phone to Stella. "Oh, hey Stella! What's up?"
"I noticed how you tried to make me feel included with introducing to people, like Min Ho. You two are friends, right?"
"More or less..." you answered carefully, unsure on where this was going.
She took a step closer, eyes on the floor. "Well, I think he's really cute, and we were talking a lot at dinner and... I think I'm gonna ask him out!"

Summary: Christmas is meant to be spent with your loved ones. Minho stopped loving a long time ago.
A/N: Credits to my boyfriend for the general idea of the plot (story is all me, though)
November nearing its end, Chrismas was approaching quickly. Children playing in the snow, shops filled with decorations to sell for the holidays, sales everywhere for presents shopping, music playing everywhere you go; truly the most wonderful time of the year.
At least, that's what most people think.
Chan has always loved Christmas. He always took it as an opportunity to gather up with his college friends with whom life was always enjoyable. Jeongin had recently gotten a promotion at work which he took very seriously, Hyunjin finally opened his dog rescue center a few years back, Felix was happily getting married in the following spring, Seungmin had finally started to get recognition for his stand up comedy shows, Changbin had entered a production company with Chan, and Jisung was finally seeing someone after not daring to date for years.
And then, there is Minho.
Him and Chan used to be the closest friends ever, and Minho was always the life of the party. He messed around in college, got good grades, made his way up to become a successful lawyer. Overall, things had turned out pretty well for him.
What Minho considered as his biggest accomplishment was his lover. The apple of his eyes, the prettiest woman he had ever laid eyes upon, the sunshine of his life. Y/N was in the same major as him, one of the top students. It started out as a very typical college love story. He was annoying her, she found him funny, they were paired for a project, they got closer, and they got together in a matter of weeks. From that point, life was perfect. They moved out together after college, adopted a ton of cats, went on so many trips outside of the country... they even got engaged.
That was until Minho messed it all up, losing everything he loved the most in one go.
Ding dong.
Jumping at the sound, Minho takes a second to recover and puts the movie he was watching on pause. He checks the clock; it is 7 o'clock in the evening. He wasn't expecting anybody to visit him. Nonetheless, he goes over his front door and looks into the peephole. He isn't surprised to see Chan waiting patiently with a plastic bag in hands. He rolls his eyes in annoyance before letting his friend in, greeting him boringly.
"Hey, Chan," he says before yawning loudly.
The older man looks him up and down, analyzing every bit of his friend's appearance. "Wow, you look like shit."
Minho doesn't answer, giving Chan the death stare instead. "What do you want?"
"Well," he starts while allowing himself to get comfortable on the couch. "Jisung is presenting his new girlfriend to us and because you didn't answer in the group chat, I thought I would check on you."
"Tonight? No, I have to get up early tomorrow."
Chan's shoulders drop as Minho, once again, declines an invitation. "You haven't come to see us in months."
Minho shrugs, visibly not seeing a problem. "I'm just very busy. I have cases coming in all the time and I can't trust my associate to work on them."
"You're overworking yourself, a break would do you some good. Besides, we miss you."
It's not that he doesn't want to see his friends, of course he does. He just knows very well he'll only end up ruining the night by not being the funny guy he used to be.
"I don't know."
Chan takes a nicely ironed shirt out of his plastic bag and puts it on the coffee table in front of him, and stands up to walk to the door. "You're welcomed to drop by if you change your mind. It's at the restaurant we used to go in college."
"Why the shirt?" Minho's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Consider it as an early Christmas gift from me."
After throwing a small smile his way, Chan opens the door and leaves. Minho finds himself alone again, perplexed. He approaches the shirt and scrutinizes it. It's a designer piece which does not surprise him, Chan has always been the kind to go an extra mile for his loved ones. Looking at the clock again, it indicates 7:20 P.M. Does he still have time to go? It would mean he has to shower, get dressed, drive all the way to the restaurant... Right, that specific restaurant.
He will visit his friends, just not tonight.
Christmas was the most important holiday to Y/N. It brought so much nostalgia to her and she absolutely adored every aspect of it. Baking cookies and go ice skating were part of the many activities she loved doing in December.
This was also the first year she had to spend it away from her family. She didn't regret choosing to study so far away from home but it hurt nonetheless. It would be difficult and Minho knew that.
Y/N had to work an extra shift that night if she wanted the day of Christmas Eve off. It was ridiculous, she thought. As if the restaurant really needed her to stay so late. Coming home, Y/N was so glad to finally be able to relax as she climbed up the stairs.
Meanwhile, Minho was waiting excitedly at the front door of their shared apartment. He made sure the gingerbread cookies were all ready to be assembled to construct a house, checked if the Christmas lights were working fine, and put a playlist of Y/N's favourite holiday songs on his speaker.
"Soonie!" he yelled frantically at his cat as he saw him get on the counter. "You don't want to ruin your mama's night, do you?"
He picked him up and brought it close to his body, petting his head lovingly. Needless to say, this couldn't be a cuter sight to have when Y/N walked in.
"Hey, my two favourite boys," she chuckled at them before taking in how well-decorated the home was. "Min, did you set up all this?"
Her boyfriend put his pet down before bringing her into his arms. "I did. You've been feeling off recently, I thought it'd be a good idea to cheer you up. And since Christmas is next week, why not decorate cookies for the occasion?"
"You made gingerbread cookies?!"
Y/N's eyes lit up from seeing the baked goods and she rushed to go sit at the counter. Minho smiled at himself, proud he had managed to lit up her inner light just a little.
"Thank Felix for these."
"Well, thank you Felix."
Present.
Minho remembers every night she came home from that workplace. He always tried to make her feel better each time, Y/N despised working so late but she somehow always stayed positive.
How much he misses her.
Minho gasps for air, sweat all over his body. He had another nightmare, nothing unusual. What is odd is the phone ringing nonstop at this hour of the day; 4 o'clock. Who in their right mind would call someone so early?
"What?"
The person on the other side of line doesn't respond, Minho can only hear them breathe unsteadily.
"Hello?"
"Minho," Jisung finally speaks. "Sorry to bother you this early."
"It's 4:00 A.M."
"I know, I know. Just, I'm getting worried about you and I can't call you tomorrow –well, today– or you'll say you're busy with work as always. You're not okay and I think you could use a friend."
Although not wrong, his statement fueled Minho with annoyance and frustration. He doesn't need help, or anyone for that matter.
"Minho?" Jisung speaks up again as he doesn't get a response.
"Good night, Jisung," he simply says with the intention of hanging up.
"Wait!" he hurries to stop him. "If you don't want to talk for your own sake, at least do it for mine. Not just mine, the other guys' too."
Sure, Minho hates talking about his feelings. Still, he's not a monster and cares a lot about his friends nonetheless. Feeling a bit obligated, he agrees.
"So, uhm, who's your new girlfriend?" he asks, getting uncomfortable already.
"She's a friend of Jeongin. Remember that girl he worked with in college? Well, that's her. She's so nice, I wonder why Jeongin hadn't introduced me to her sooner. She kind of reminds me of..." he trails off but stops himself before stepping out of line.
"I'm happy for you two. I'm sorry I couldn't come."
Jisung lets out a huff. "Thank you but I know you could have, you just didn't want to."
"That's not-"
"Don't lie, Minho," he cuts him off. "You didn't come because of her, am I right? Because of Y/N again?"
Minho can feel his heart tighten while his friends keeps going at it, insisting on speaking about her. He doesn't want to, is it so hard to understand?
"Let's not talk about her."
"That's the problem, Minho. You never want to open up about it."
"She left. What is there more to say?"
"How you're coping with all, how we can help-"
"The only thing you can do to help is leave me alone. I'm doing just fine. Talking was a bad idea, I should go back to bed."
"Min..." Jisung says in a desperate voice.
"Good night."
As he hangs up, he can sense it might have gone too far. Regardless, he discards his phone on his nightstand and buries his body in his bedsheets. He hears meowing coming from the entrance of his room. A second later, his cat Dori jumps on the mattress to come and lay next to him. Minho reluctantly cuddles the cat back, his last one he got with Y/N. Dori is technically her baby but she left so suddenly that Minho had no other choice but to keep him.
"Where are your brothers?" he whispers affectionately to the ball of fur who replies with some more purring. "Are Soonie and Doongie sleeping too?"
Chan is probably the only one able to get Minho out of his house, especially during Christmas time. Maybe it is guilt or shame that he feels, but Minho hasn't been so great ever since he had his early chitchat with Jisung. Shopping for presents wasn't what he had in mind when he thought of making up for it but Chan insisted it would be a good idea.
"Look," he says while pointing at the pig plush on the top of the pile. "It looks like Changbin."
Minho shrugs. "I guess it does."
"What about this?"
He looks boringly at the shirt Chan is showing. Yeah, maybe he should have done something else to make the most of his day off. A good meal at home seems so much more appealing to him.
"Come on," Chan encourages him. "Enjoy a bit."
"I am enjoying, look," Minho tries to convince him with a forced smile.
"Hmm, maybe it's time to go to the food court and take a break."
Dragging his friend behind, Chan moves from restaurant to restaurant in search of a meal for his lunch. After a while of debating internally, he settles for a hamburger. As for Minho, rice with pork seems to be tasty enough. They sit at a table and start to eat in silence. Minho looks around the place, watching people chat and laugh. He sees one couple in particular and they remind him too much of Y/N. Adverting his gaze from this spot, he focuses back on his food before speaking.
"I was thinking of buying a new hoodie for Jisung."
Chan is surprised his friend is even conversing with him but smiles. "A hoodie? Doesn't he have plenty of them already?"
"He does but he sent me a picture of one specifically the other day."
"Then you should buy it for him. Have you heard from him, by the way?"
Minho gulps. "No."
Although suspicious, Chan doesn't push it. They quickly finish their lunch and decide to head towards a clothing store to find Jisung's present. At a certain point, they unconsciously part ways as they look at different pieces of clothing. Minho would look for Chan but he has the hoodie to find. Chan is fine on his own anyway, he tells himself. He goes to the right section and begins to browse through each item. He frowns as he inspects them, not convinced these would be appropriate for his friend.
"Minho?"
He freezes in place. Has he gone crazy or has he just heard Y/N's voice?
"Minho," she says again.
Finally turning around, he is somewhat relieved that it isn't his former girlfriend, but her sister. "Deena," he greets her politely.
"It's been a while, wow. How have you been?" she asks cheerfully, too much in his opinion.
"Nothing much."
She seems taken aback by the short length of his answer. Minho used to be the nicest man she knows. Of course, she doesn't know the full story about what happened. Nonetheless, she still considers Minho as family. So seeing him so lifeless in front of her is quite a shocker.
"I'm in a bit of a rush but we should go grab coffee soon and catch up," she suggests but from the look on Minho's face, she knows she shouldn't have.
"I'm pretty busy."
"Alright," she answers, uneasy. "I'll see you around then."
"Yeah."
Without adding anything, he resumes to looking through the hoodies. Deena eventually leaves and Minho feels like he can breathe again.
He has nothing against his former "sister-in-law" but seeing her so unexpectedly is not something he has prepared himself for. He will go grab a coffee with her when he feels ready to.
Chan comes back a few minutes after with a couple of black shirts and an oversized pair of jeans he picked for Jeongin. As they wait to pay for their things, Minho can feel that Chan has something to say. It wasn't an abnormal occurrence but this time feels like it's eating him inside.
"What is it?"
Chan hesitates for a second. "It was Deena, right?"
He hums. "Yes."
"I'm running out of ways to tell you appropriately but you need to get your shit together. The girl did nothing to you and she seemed to be on the verge of crying when she left the store."
Minho rolls his eyes, like always. "What do you want me to do? Run after her and apologize? I didn't do anything."
"Exactly. Dude, everyone around you is getting sick of your way of dealing with what happened. Sure, your feelings are valid. This doesn't mean you have to inflict your pain onto us. We only want to help," Chan responds, not realizing his tone is increasing more and more.
"Always wanting to play the good savior, uh?" Minho scoffs. "In front of strangers too? Look, I don't need you to tell me how to be. You're not my dad or anything."
"I took you under my wing in college, of course I'm still looking out for you."
"That was back then. I don't need your pity anymore."
Chan's jaw clenches as the two men stare right into the eye. The cashier awkwardly calls for them to proceed to payment which breaks their staring contest. They hurry to pay before storming out of the mall, both of them fuming with anger. The moment they get into Chan's car, the latter explodes.
"This has lasted long enough. How long has it been now? A year?"
"Eleven months," Minho corrects.
"Whatever, same difference. My point is that it might be time for you to move on or at least stop being such a pain in the ass."
Minho's eyebrows raise as he lets out a chuckle. "I didn't know such strong words could come out of your mouth."
"Minho," Chan says in a warning tone.
"So what if I'm not as easygoing as before? You don't understand how it feels anyway."
"Help me understand, then!"
"You just wouldn't!"
He surprised himself by yelling so harshly. The hint of regret creeps up but he tries to hide it by looking away. They both know this is the end of this conversation, neither want to continue anyway. Chan starts the car and the ride home can't be any worse. The tension is so heavy, he swears he feels his body crushing.
Still in silence, he drops Minho off in front of his apartment complex and drives away. Face blank, Minho goes in his building and lazily enters the elevator. It's like he's in a daze, not fully aware of himself. Before he knows it, he's back home sitting at his counter with three cats waiting patiently in front of him as they expect him to fill their bowls with food. But he remains still and stares at nothing in particular. Has he gone too far this time?
In all of the people he knows, Chan is the last one he would have thought to snap at him so harshly. Most importantly, he never thought he'd yell at him for no reason. For the first time in a while, Minho allows one single tear drop from his eye.
Christmas has come. Well, almost. Work has been the same and no contact have been made with anyone for the last week or so. The lack of human interaction felt both good and bad, but mostly aching.
Every day is the same, Minho realizes. Waking up, eating a very mediocre peanut butter toast with coffee, scrolling through his feed on social medias, getting dressed, going to work, bossing his ass off in return of a less than decent pay, coming back home, eating, washing up, going to bed, sleeping, only to do the same all over again the next day.
In a way, he loves not having to think about planning things out. On the other hand, his life is becoming more and more dull with less of a purpose. Why is he alive for if it's only to do the same task over and over again?
For a change, Minho decides to start a Christmas film instead of rotating watches of the same five movies. A mistake he does is not reading the synopsis before pushing play on the remote. He settles comfortably on his couch while Soonie and Doongie cuddle next to him. Dori is somewhere nearby, playing with a piece of paper Minho had dropped on the floor earlier that week.
At first, the show is boring he thinks. The more the story develops, however, the more he sees the resemblance between himself and the protagonist. The movie is A Christmas Carol, one Y/N once had begged him to watch with her. Scrooge is very unlikable, there is no denying in that. But Minho tries to ignore the similarities he shares with him and keeps on watching the screen in silence. At some point, it simply became impossible to ignore the tightness in his chest. In an abrupt move, he turns the TV off, picks up his two cats, and heads to bed.
Christmas is so near, he thinks as he is watching his alarm clock getting closer to midnight. He really does his best to not make a big deal out of it but his mind can't stop having these images of Y/N, his friends, Christmas... everything. He can't escape pain, no matter what.
Thankfully, Dori comes in his room to join the other felines which distracts him for a second, just long enough so he can finally fall asleep.
The clock indicates 11:55 P.M. when Minho is in a deep sleep and the only sounds that can be heard throughout the whole flat are the appliances running and the cats snoring. Maybe some snores are coming from the man himself but they are faint. Slowly, Doongie wakes up. He wiggles around to find a new comfortable position but fails and falls off the bed. Luckily, cats always land on their feet. He was going to hop back on the bed but a weird sound catches his attention. It sounds like a bell. Curious, he comes out of the room in attempt to find where it comes from. But nothing. Or maybe there is something.
A faint light can be perceived from the bottom of the front door. The cat carefully gets closer, lowering his body. In a single snap, something flies right from under the door and moving straight into Minho's room which scares Doongie well enough to go hide in his cat tree and let out a cry.
This immediately wakes Minho up as his instinctive cat dad senses take over but it is soon replaced with an unsettling feeling as he sees the bright light in front of him. He squints as it almost blinds him but he wants to know what it is. He can feel his heartbeat increase by the second as the source of light gets closer and closer. Holding his breath, he shut his eyes closed and moves his head away from whatever that is. Until he hears a sigh too familiar to his liking.
He dares to open his eyes and his shoulders drop at the sight. "Chan?"
It's not exactly Chan, it is more of a ghost-like version of him. He wears a very formal suit with his hair styled with gel and his body is translucent, making Minho very skeptical. This is a dream, he thinks. Chan is very much alive and very much not in his apartment. Certainly not after the events of the other day.
"I see you didn't even reach out to me."
Minho frowns and looks around the room as if to make sure he really is speaking to him. "What do you mean?"
Chan chuckles, his voice sounding more like an echo. "After our fight, dumbass! Come on, you weren't going to leave things as it is until Christmas."
He checks his alarm clock quickly. "Well, it is Christmas."
"In five minutes," Chan smirks at him. "I know the past few months have been hard on you."
"Great, even my subconscious is trying to fix me," he whispers to himself, loud enough that the ghost-like figure hears it.
"As in a dream?" Minho nods to the question only for Chan to laugh some more. "You're funny. Anyway, I'm not here for fun. I'm here to help you."
"You tried that already," Minho grumbles in an annoyed voice but receives a shook of the head as an answer.
"My human self tried, I haven't tried yet. You see, I only appear if I'm really needed and your case is a pretty severe one."
Minho tries to protest but is quickly shushed.
"Look, this is a night shift on Christmas Eve, I don't want this any more than you do so let's do it quickly. I'll send you three spirits tonight before it hits midnight. They'll guide you through your entire life and help you make the right choice. Got it?"
"Midnight is in five minutes."
"I know."
"But-"
"You'll understand," Chan cuts him off. "As for now, bon voyage."
Not even conscious that he had been awake —or dreaming— Minho hears a snap of fingers before opening his eyes widely and gasping for air as he wakes up. He is still somewhat confused, but rather glad this was simply a dream. He can feel that the sweat has gone through his pyjamas and makes a face out of disgust.
Quickly, he eats breakfast and freshens up before leaving for work. Yes, he is working on Christmas day. This might be the only way he can get distracted from everything going wrong in his life.
As he approches his work building, he notices a young man. He looks awfully similar to Jeongin but not quite. Curiosity gets the best of him, however, and Minho instinctively walks up to the man. He takes a moment to scan his appearance: he's shorter than Jeongin, has light golden hair and wears loose white streetwear clothing. He also takes notes on the grey of his eyes.
"Lee Minho!" he says cheerfully before Minho could let out a single word.
The man jumps in surprise. "Jeongin?"
He shakes his head as a no and smiles brightly. "No, my name is P."
"P..." Minho repeats slowly, slightly confused.
"Shall we go in?"
He doesn't wait for an answer as he begins to walk and Minho automatically follows him into his building, assuming this boy might be a new worker in his firm. They hop onto the elevator together and P pushes the button to level 7. As Minho is about to look for his own floor, he notices something odd. The building has 26 levels. So why the hell are the numbers going up to 30? He slowly turns to come face to face with the younger man who keeps a wide smile on his face, fear creeping in.
"Who are you?" he dares to ask.
"I told you, I'm P!" the boy repeats with an even bigger grin, almost creepy. "Short for Past."
Oh. Oh no. It all suddenly clicks in Minho's head. Either this is a dream occuring because of the movie he had watched before going to bed or this is his own story of A Christmas Carol. He pinches the side of his arm, hoping he would be back in his room but it only results to him hissing in pain.
"Do you remember your Christmas when you were seven years old?" Minho can only glare at him but P doesn't seem to care. "This might refresh your memories."
The doors of the elevator open right after and not only are they not in his workplace anymore but the setting is exactly as he remembers it from his childhood. They are right on the street of his parents' home. The street is empty, understandably so because of the light snow falling down and the cold weather. It is early in the morning and his childhood home looks much smaller than he remembers, and in a much poorer state.
P walks out first before turning around, encouraging Minho to follow. "Can they see me?"
"No."
The answer satifies Minho and he finally steps out of the elevator, letting himself get led by this Jeongin look-alike. He wonders why this specific time was chosen in all of his years of life. He ponders the idea of asking P but it soon vanishes when he spots his younger self coming out of the house with his parents observing him in a loving way. A knot forms in his belly. He hasn't talked to his parents since Y/N left. Are they doing okay? Maybe he should have called a few times at least.
"Can we bring one home?" younger Minho asks his mom, eyes full of hope.
"Do you want a kitten as your Christmas gift?" his mother asks and the child happily nods. "We'll go see the cats and I'll think about it, okay?"
Satisfied enough, he skips down the street while humming a Christmas song. Oddly enough, it is Y/N's favourite: Winter Wonderland.
Minho watches his former self with nostalgia. He remembers the moment perfectly. This was the first time he ever owned a cat after begging his mother to get one years after years. He had named her Nala, which he thought was very clever at the time.
"Can we follow them?"
P takes his hand, much to Minho's surprise, and they begin to float just slightly above ground and fly right to where his past self is. He doesn't question the spirit about how this works and resumes to watching himself coo at the cats. For a brief moment, his eyes advert from the scene and land on his parents. But there is something catching his attention. He sees his father emptying his wallet as well as his mom before they give it to the worker. His breath gets heavier as he looks back and forth from them to himself.
"Is this why my mother stopped going out for tea with her friends? And why my father couldn't take my mother out for dates? They used to argue so much about it..." Minho almost whispers.
"Parents make great sacrifices for their children," P says longingly.
"Why didn't they tell me?"
P shrugs. "Probably because you were a literal child but also because they didn't want you to feel bad."
"My grandmother would have helped us in an instant if she knew."
P shrugs again. "They didn't want help."
He easily catches on why the ghost brought him at this exact moment. Just in time, Minho gets a hold of himself and says in incoherent words that he won't fall for P's tricks. The latter isn't nearly fazed by this statement and he takes the man's hand to bring him back to the elevator in a quick flying trip.
After the door closes, Minho is relieved that he can finally go back home. That is until P pushes the button for level 18 which earns a frown from Minho.
"Aren't we done?"
"No, you have other things left to see before I send you back. Well, a few more years to see."
"And me at 18 years old was an important year?"
P sends him a knowing look but he acts clueless, as if he doesn't know what happened back then although it's painfully obvious he does. Denial is the best way to cope, isn't it?
The doors open to the hallway of his college dorm he used to share with Chan. He can instantly recognize the said-man and Changbin joking around before they walk in his dorm. Without waiting for P, Minho follows and freezes when he stumbles upon Y/N. This moment was merely over two months into their relationship but he could tell he already knew she was his everything at that time.
Y/N greets the two boys and encourages them to put their wrapped presents under the mini Christmas tree she had insisted on making to display in his small living room. Meanwhile, a nearly adult Minho is unwrapping takeout as he watches the scene with a huge smile.
"What took you two so long?" he asks, walking towards the group with the food in hands.
"Chan's fault," Changbin immediately accuses, earning a stare from the older man.
"Not true."
"I'm not the one who lost Hyunjin's present."
Hyunjin's eyes lit up. "You got me a present?"
A small smirk appears on Chan's face. "I got all of you a present."
"Even me?"
Minho's heart tightens. He still struggles to listen to your voice and because you were there physically in front of him, it pains him so much more.
"Even you."
"Can we open them?" Felix asks, eyes lighting up.
"After eating," younger Minho says in a stern voice. "Otherwise, you'll get your dirty ass hands on the gifts, or on anything for that matter."
Y/N glances at Jisung with a knowing smirk that his friend returns, something he hadn't caught onto back then. She still hastens to give Minho a hand with all of the food dishes, not forgetting to give a napkin to each person. He knows he can be a bit peculiar with keeping his place tidy and he never wanted Y/N to feel pressured with that. Still, it visibly seemed to have been a common issue she and Jisung had with him.
"Y/N, I thought you were supposed to go back home for the holidays," Seungmin tells with food already being chewed in his mouth.
"I was," she confirms. "Minho and I determined we wanted to spend our first Christmas together and, sorry, but I rather be here than with my aunts. They were going to be all over me about not knowing what I want to do with life, I can spare myself from it."
The whole group lets out a laugh as they go on with their feast before discussing all sorts of things. Hyunjin and Chan are in the corner laughing their asses off, much to Minho's dismay who is keeping a close look at his white carpet. Hyunjin has always been clumsy and this wouldn't be the first time he spills something.
Present Minho watches it all, fully aware of what is about to happen. He never regretted getting mad at his friend for a small spoil but this kind of behaviour is one of the many that contributed to his separation. He sees what P is trying to do by showing him this.
"I get the point, can we go?"
P chuckles. "After you know what."
In shame, he observes from the corner of the eye himself exploding at Hyunjin for staining the carpet, Chan nagging at him for doing so, the boys uncomfortably watching the scene as they back away from him... and he catches a glimpse of Y/N getting the necessities to get rid of the sauce stain, not even complaining.
"I think we're good here," he tries again to convince P.
He receives a playful smirk from the spirit. "Are you sure?"
Minho groans but, nonetheless, nods. "Please."
P is quick to grab his hand and fly right back into the elevator, doors shutting behind them. He does give Minho a minute or two to recuperate from the sight before pushing the button 24. Minho's eyes are stuck on the lit up number and gulps, feeling suddenly hotter. That was last year.
"Don't you have another Christmas to show me before..." he trails off.
He is met with no answer and has to settle for the tranquility of the metal box going up. Anxiety keeps letting itself known through his body the more the number rises. Finally, after what felt like eternity to him, the ding sound signals that they have reached the level.
"You might want to prepare yourself for this one."
Minho huffs and glares at the ghost as to tell him "no shit". The doors slide open and they are already in his apartment. At least, P was kind enough to spare him from reliving what triggered the actual argument.
His cats are all doing their thing as normally. All seems out of the ordinary until he feels footsteps through the ground. He takes a deep breath in and watches Y/N barge into the place, hair messy and tears streaming down her face. The guilt pit down in his stomach when he sees himself step inside after you, throwing his scarf carelessly on a chair.
"Are you going to talk at least?" he asks, looking down at Y/N who scoffs at her boyfriend's question.
How dare he is the one demanding explanations from her?
"Are you going to talk about it?" she questions back, crossing her arms on her chest.
"Oh, come on, I didn't do anything."
"Telling everyone you want to call off the engagement is something."
P hisses in a disapproving way. "Man, you outdid yourself with this one."
"Shut up."
Y/N still waits for Minho to speak up but nothing comes out of his mouth other than his unsteady breathing. In a swift manner, she walks behind the counter and fills their cats' bowls in the meantime of waiting still for her lover to say something. But the man stays where he is, observing his surroundings in awkwardness.
"Minho," she finally calls out.
"I didn't call off the engagement."
"Really? Saying getting married is bullshit isn't telling everyone you don't want to marry me?"
"It's not like that. I meant it's not a necessity for us to know we love each other."
"You don't get that marriages can mean something other than that, it's so much more."
"It's an excuse to spend thousands of dollars on things that will last a day or two at most."
Y/N buried her face in her hands as she let out a groan. "You've always been like this."
"Realistic?"
"No, a grumpy old man. You can't see the beauty in anything."
Minho smirks for a second. "I see beauty in you."
"Don't try with your sweet words, Lee Minho," she says, raising a finger up at him. "You know exactly what I mean. I can give you so many examples. Firstly, you never buy me anything on Valentine's day because it's a marketing holiday. Then, you want every single aspect to be perfect and at their exact place although life isn't like this. And finally, you just see the negative everywhere, always pointing out what is wrong. What happened to my sweet Minho who would smile at the slightest thing?"
He remains quiet as he sits on one of the dining table's chairs. Not knowing what to do next, Y/N copies his actions and gets seated in front of him. They don't dare to look at each other just yet but Minho most definitely wants to. His ego too big, he doesn't budge.
"Minho, please," she begged.
"Alright, it's enough."
P lets out a huff. "The action barely started."
Clenching his jaw, he doesn't insist more and settles on looking at the ground while the scene he had been trying to forget about for almost a year was happening right in front of him. Minho hates it, his heart is bleeding in pain.
"I've grown, maybe that's something you should consider doing as well," he hears himself say.
Curiosity gets the best of him and he can't contain himself from looking at her, he never knew how she had reacted to his words. The view he has in front of his eyes makes his heart shatter in an instant. He swears he can see her soul leave her body just now. Had he really done this to her?
"What- Min, I-" she tries to speak, but struggles.
"Y/N, we want different things now."
She chokes out on her tears, the ones that she finally lets stream down her face since she had been containing them. She hated crying, especially with Minho.
"No, we want the same things," she affirms, her voice breaking. "You've just become too obnoxious and focused on your career that you don't see it anymore."
"You think I'm the obnoxious one? Y/N, have you seen yourself?" Minho asks in a loud voice as he gets up from his chair. "You're so full of bullshit with your positivity and ignorance towards actual problems, it makes me sick. Take the cat, for example. We don't have space for a third one but yet, here is Dori who can't even behave properly. And your Christmas decoration is taking too much space too."
"This is about space now?"
"Yes, I need space! And I'm sorry I cancelled our last date but I just can't deal with you right now. You're in the way and I can't work and- Fuck, I don't know how to tell you but we can't keep on going like this."
Her breathing is becoming more unsteady while the tears are still flooding out of her eyes. Present Minho approches her and tries to put a hand on her shoulder, but it goes through. Right, he forgot. He is not really there.
"I didn't want to call off our engagement. But maybe I do now."
Slowly, she gets up and walks towards their shared bedroom which leaves a perplexed and helpless Minho standing alone in the middle of his dining room. He hears unknown noises and hesitates on whether he should go to you or wait. But again, his ego takes over and he stays right where he is.
Soon later, only a couple of minutes, he sees Y/N walk out of the bedroom with one bag and two suitcases full of her belongings. His face dropped immediately.
"You're leaving?" he asks, desperate. No answer. "For how long?" Still silent. "Y/N, please, I know we can figure it out."
Her lower lip quivers as she sobs some more, trying her best to ignore the man in front of her. She dares to walk towards their front door, not acknowledging her lover for one second.
"My love, please," Minho tries once more.
And just like that, she walks out, door shutting quietly behind her.
"We've seen enough."
P is about to say no when he catches Minho's watery eyes. He taps himself on the back mentally, he didn't think he would break down so fast. Taking him by the forearm, he leads him towards the elevator. The doors slide shut rather fast, which Minho is thankful for. In a careful move, P presses the ground floor button and the elevator goes down.
Once arrived, the doors reveal Minho's bedroom. It looks the same as it did the night before. Minho takes notes on that, it means his night is far from being over.
"I don't think I'll be able to sleep."
"You will," P reassures. "I'll leave you alone, now. It was my pleasure being your guide for tonight."
As the two men exchange a small smile, more as a form of respect, P begins to glow, brighter and brighter. So much that Minho can't even look at him anymore and is blinded. He tried to look away but even then with his eyes closed, the light goes through.
Suddenly, there's nothing.
The morning is brighter than he thought it would be. He swears he saw on the news the day prior that Christmas day was going to be gloomy. The blue sky with the sun shining is definitely a pleasant surprise.
Enough with admiring the weather, Minho finishes rapidly his coffee, grabs his briefcase, and heads out to work. As he walks towards his building, he can't help but think of his dream from last night. He did expect dreaming of Y/N but not having to relive the day she left so vividly.
As he is about to cross the road, he feels his body collide with someone which is soon followed with the feeling of burnt. He curses out loud and is considering telling the other person off. Only, it is someone he hasn't seen in a while and who has a face he definitely recognizes.
"Hyunjin?"
The man cocks his head to the side and frowns. "Are you Mr. Lee?"
Minho, as equally confused, nods. "You don't recognize me?"
The Hyunjin look-alike seems to take notice of his whereabouts and clears his throat. "I apologize, sir. This is my first year working as a guiding spirit. Shall we start over? Hi, my name is P."
Suddenly, Minho has flashbacks of his encounter with the boy of the same name. Was he still in the dream? Or was the Chan spirit saying the truth? He feels a lump growing inside of his throat as the P man in question goes on about himself.
"I'm sincerely sorry about the coffee I spilled, let me fix this," he says before splashing Minho's figure with gold dust. The stain instantly disappears. "Now, where was I..? Oh, right! I'm P, short for Present. I was assigned to you to review your Christmas of this year."
At this point, Minho doesn't have it in him to protest. Without saying a word, he walks in the building as P follows him behind. This one spirit is much giddier than the previous one. The moment he steps in the elevator, he does nothing but look around nervously. It is with a heavy sigh that Minho empresses himself to push the button next to 25.
"I thought I forgot something, thanks," P laughs nervously, receiving a glare in return.
The ride up is quiet and awkward but when the doors open, they both step out in sync and walk along the trail of snow. The Christmas market is an event that the real Hyunjin takes part in each year. He always contributed with an animal rescue center to help them give puppies up for adoption.
This year is especially important to him, it is the first time he does it with his own dog rescue shelter. For the occasion, a few of the boys promised him they would come by to encourage him. Including Minho.
Far from the distance, Minho sees Felix and Seungmin arguing about whatever while Chan greets warmly their friend who has just finished setting his booth up.
"Guys, come look at the doggies," he calls the younger men who rush to pet the furry creatures.
"I'd call this one Seungmin," Felix jokes as he picks up a baby labrador.
Hyunjin laughs at the comment. "Her name is Daisy."
"Not very original," Felix allows himself to point out to which Hyunjin chuckles again.
His laughs trails off while he looks around, brows furrowed. "Didn't Minho say he'd come too?"
Chan sighs heavily, giving one of the poodles some scratches. "I called him but he didn't answer. Plus, we had an argument last time I saw him so I don't think he'll come."
"About Y/N again?" Seungmin asks and Chan nods. "The number of times I told her to talk it out with him, she really should call him. The guy is getting on my nerves."
Minho's heart stops for a moment. Not only because he finally knows what his friend thinks of him but also because he apparently has been in contact with Y/N, without his knowledge. He thought all of his friends haven't heard from you since.
"I told her too but what can I say? They're both stubborn," Felix shrugs. "I thought of stopping by her place today to see how she's doing but Minho would kill me if he discovers."
"Oh, please. He'd kill you if you even mention her name."
The four men share a sad laugh before changing topics. Hyunjin is careful with each dog as he introduces them one by one. All of it becomes a blur for Minho, he doesn't know if he wants to leave now or listen more to it. As much as it hurts him, he can't help but be curious.
"Did you know this?" he finally says, turning his body towards P.
"I did read it on the report paper before meeting you but, hey, I don't know you all," he responds with his hands up in defense. "We can go see her if you want."
Minho ponders for a moment. Was he ready to face her once again?
"No. Not yet."
"As you wish. Your friends are having a party tonight if you didn't know. We have to see that."
"I know, yeah."
P takes his hand as they float away all the way to Changbin's house. Before setting foot on the ground, he can already see all of his friends with Felix's fiancé, Chan's wife and Jisung's new girlfriend. Everyone is there. Except him.
He carefully approaches the group inside the living room where the girls are busy putting the presents under the Christmas tree. What takes him aback the most is seeing a tall and beautiful woman coming down the stairs before placing a kiss on Changbin's cheek. Since when is he seeing someone? It takes everyone a few minutes to settle down and serve themselves drinks. Once everyone is sat, they hold their glasses up for a toast.
"Who wants to do the honours?" Jeongin asks and Jisung immediately gets up.
"Merry Christmas, guys! Thank you for this year and thank you to Changbin for hosting the dinner tonight," he says, bopping his head towards him. "And let's have a moment for our Minho. He might not be here but he's in our heart. Let's hope he can get back on the right track next year."
There is a pause in the room, everybody suddenly feeling a wave of guilt and sadness. They know they've done everything for their friend, but they still feel like they should have tried harder.
Minho, this time, doesn't try to contain his cries. He walks up Jisung and smiles, just a little.
"Thanks, Hannie," he whispers.
"To Minho," he cheers, holding his drink higher.
"To Minho."
P lets out a cough, grabbing Minho's attention. "Not to be a mood breaker but I think you should see Y/N."
"What do you mean?"
"See what she is doing at this exact moment."
He surprisingly agrees with no hesitation and they both float away to another neighbourhood of the city. One Minho isn't too familiar with. This must be why she chose to move there, somewhere she knew she wouldn't encounter Minho. They float down at the apartment's balcony and Minho can see her right away through the window.
"You can go through walls," P informs and he does as told.
He's surprised to see her alone with her sister. She used to be a social butterfly, he wonders what happened. Deena sets the table while humming to Christmas music and Y/N finishes up with cutting the ham. It's not as Christmas-y as it should be, it's rather sad. The atmosphere is sad.
"Need help with that?" Deena offers.
"I'm good, thanks," Y/N answers as she brings the dishes on the table.
She looks paler than he remembers, maybe because of the lighting. Her hair is longer and she seems to have dyed it brown. She's also much skinnier.
"Thank you for cooking," Deena smiles warmly at her.
"It's nothing," she smiled back and begins to serve herself a plate. "I would have definitely given a piece of ham to the cats if they were here."
Deena shakes her head. "How many times did I tell you that I can go get them back?"
Y/N shakes her head too and sighs. "He loves them as much as I do, maybe even more. Who knows how he would survive without them."
"He's not really surviving, if you want my opinion. You should have seen him at the mall the other day."
Y/N shrugs while playing with her potatoes. "He's coping in his own way."
Her sister lets out a groan, desperate. "Jeez, you two are so sad to see, it's depressing."
Well, if Minho wanted to be sure Y/N is still struggling with getting over their separation, he has his answer right there.
"I'll be fine and so will he. Besides, it's not like we lost everything. I still have you and he has the boys."
Deena deadpans at her and then points at her ring finger. Minho looks at it more attentively and allows himself to gasp quietly. Y/N still has the ring, the one he proposed to her with. After what he said to her, she still wears it?
She is quick to pull her hand off the table and cover it with her sleeve. "It's a pretty ring."
"It means more to you than that and you know it."
"He didn't want to get married and it's alright. We grew apart and it is what it is. Can we talk about something else now?" she says in annoyance.
"Y/N, Felix, when he called-"
"Stop," she cuts her off. "Felix doesn't know what happened. He doesn't understand."
"Okay, I'll stop. But just so you know, this is doing no good to anybody, especially the two of you."
Minho can't hear any more of it. In a second, he turns around and goes back to the balcony which indicates to P that the visit is over. The ghost throws some of his golden dust in the air and the elevator magically appears next to them. They step inside and press the button to the ground floor.
As it goes down, Minho is looking away from the spirit, he has a certain pride to maintain. P hesitates but decides to put his hand on the man's shoulder.
"Can I just say? In my whole year of working, this might be the only case where I really empathized with my client."
Minho moves his hand away from him and grumbles something under his breath. P doesn't hear it properly but it goes along the lines of "I don't need empathy, don't act like you care".
When they get to his room, the spirit is quick to take a leave, leaving Minho alone in his cold room. At least he has his cats. He has them because of Y/N's kind heart knew he needs them.
At least, maybe she still cares a little.
The formula is the same this morning. So much that Minho knows he isn't going to work and is still trapped in this weird loop of exploring his life. He doesn't bother dressing properly nor bringing what he needs for his job. He doesn't even change his cats' water.
The moment he walks in his workplace, it doesn't even take him a second to spot the ghost of his future. It's Jisung this time. Well, not him exactly.
"Hello, my name is-"
"F, I suppose? For future?"
The spirit, stunned, slowly nods. "Usually, people are happy to see me."
"I had a long night, buddy. Just show me what you have to show me and I can move on with my life."
F doesn't argue with him and he leads him to the elevator when he presses the button 30 right away. "We'll do the quick version since you're in such a rush. I would have gone through 26 beforehand but-"
"What happens next year?" Minho interrupts him.
"No, you want this to be quick. I respect that. It's Christmas anyway, I can make an exception."
"What happens next year?" he repeats.
F smiles knowingly before glancing at the button 26. Minho, hesitantly, goes ahead to press it himself to which the ghost responds with a satisfied smirk. Before he knows it, they already reached the level.
As the doors open, Minho soon recognizes Jeongin's penthouse. Looks like that year's Christmas is settled to be at his place. Jeongin is alone with Changbin as they seem to be preparing food and drinks for the guests they are expecting. It is soon confirmed when Jisung walks in without knocking, alongside with his girlfriend. In the following minutes, each of his friends, sometimes with a significant lover, come inside and the party gets louder and merrier. However, after Hyunjin arrived, it dawns on him that his future version himself won't take part on that year's dinner.
Just like the previous year.
After chatting some more about what they are up to in their lives (nothing much other than Felix getting married but everyone knows as they attended the ceremony), Changbin calls everyone for dinner and they sit around Jeongin's dinner table.
"Can I make the toast this year?" Jisung asks, earning looks from his friends.
"You did last year, I say our host of the night does it," Seungmin suggests and they all seem to agree.
So, a bit uncomfortable still, Jeongin gets up with his glass of wine in hands. "Thank you for another year of our usual Christmas party. I'm really glad all of you were able to come. Of course, we still have a thought for our Minho who won't be joining us, yet again, tonight." The guests exchange glances in agreement and let the youngest continue. "Merry Christmas and let's enjoy our meal!"
They cling their glasses together, wishing a merry Christmas to one another, and don't lose another second to attack their plates. Although it pains him to not see himself enjoy the feast with them, Minho is somewhat happy. At least, they still have each other.
"Why couldn't he make it, anyway?" Chan asks around the table, looking at anybody who might have the answer.
The only person to answer is, unsurprisingly, Jisung. "The last time I saw him was in September and he said he had some issues with the cats. I don't know if he was making up excuses but he seemed to be alright."
"It was a miracle he even showed up for my wedding," Felix scoffs, making Minho huff. "An even bigger miracle was that he didn't make a scene when he saw Y/N there."
"They left together, no?"
What Seungmin just said gives him some kind of hope. Wanting to be sure he would hear every detail, he gets closer to his friend who continues to speak on the matter.
"I know they drank a lot but has someone seen what they were doing?"
"He was cuddly," Jisung answers. "No, clingy as hell. Poor Y/N who had to drive him home."
"They could have made up then?" Chan questions and Jisung nods.
"But we all know him, he missed his chance to fix things again."
"I really thought inviting both of them would have put an end to their mishaps," Felix sighs, discouraged. "I'll send Minho a message later."
"We could call him all together?" Chan suggests but by the reactions of everybody, this is not an option.
Just like that, they change subject and continue to discuss cheerfully about everything and anything. F gives a sad smile to the man, who watches the scene feeling beaten. There must have something really wrong with him that his closest friends wouldn't even wish him a merry Christmas.
"Where am I while all of this is happening?" he asks the ghost.
Carefully, he is transported away from the penthouse and directly to his apartment. The moment he takes in the sight of his place, he sees how nothing much changed in a year. Everything is still where it was during the present year.
His hair is longer, he notices. Not only that but he grew a bit of a beard, a choice he questions a little. His cats are still doing their thing, none of them appear to be sick. What particularly catches his attention is the glass filled with a bright yellow liquor that is set next to him as he scrolls down through his feed on his tablet.
Is he drinking? He does have a few occasions where he'll consume alcohol but a glass full of whiskey is new.
Soonie jumps on the counter and, unlike what Minho would automatically do as of right now, his future self pushes the cat off. He gasps in horror and runs to catch his pet. Only, he did forget he isn't actually there and that things pass through his body. Fortunately, Soonie is fine.
"I should text her, at least," he hears himself say.
The man he sees is far from being remotely close to what he is. Hair messy, tie loosened and a beer belly growing; he wonders what caused him to let himself reach this point.
Future Minho opens his e-mail app and clicks on New Message. He is quick to find Y/N's e-mail address, which real Minho takes as a sign he must have done the same more than once in the last year. He tries to read what he is typing but the amount of typos is quite overwhelming. Despite that, he manages to make out a somewhat coherent note.
___
Hey,
I know I should probably not be writing this but it is Christmas today so, merry Christmas. Remember how we used to go out with the others and play stupid games until late? Then, we'd come home and I'd make you a hot chocolate before going to be? You remember all of that, don't you?
I miss it, and I miss you. I know I said I'll stop writing but you broke my heart, Y/N. How can I forget and ignore what happened? You left so suddenly for no reason. I should be furious, maybe I am. No, I know I am. I still can't help myself but longing for you.
Have a jolly holiday, even if it's without me,
Min xox
___
"Wow, that's pathetic," Minho breathes out after reading. He turns to face F and frowns. "That's a year from now?"
"Precisely."
"No, it can't be. I'm alright, I moved on."
F visibly tries to contain himself from speaking on that, but he can't. "You're one oblivious man."
"I am okay!"
F scoffs. "Sure. Now, shall we visit you at 30 years old? It's Christmas and I have others plans after this."
Minho keeps finding it ridiculous how these ghosts continue to act as if they are actual people. He's still dreaming, why would he bother imagining spirits with personalities?
He is soon led to the actual elevator of his apartment building where F presses the button quickly. Once the level reached, the doors open to a beautiful wedding reception, leaving Minho confused. He does not know anybody other than Felix, who is supposedly already married by then, who is engaged.
The two men walk around the room, recognizing a few faces, and Minho finally spots himself sitting with his friends. At least he isn't alone, he tells himself. He goes straight ahead to observe the scene where he is obviously bored and sick of being there. He does notice how his appearance seem much better than before with gel in his hair and a tuxedo well ironed on.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Chan asks him in a concerned voice.
"Stop with that, I'd leave if I wasn't fine," Minho rolls his eyes.
"You haven't spoken to her, though."
"You really are good at observing, Chan," Minho responds in a mocking way and the older man simply sighs.
Suddenly, the entirety of the room begins to cheer loudly and clap. Minho tries to follow their gaze to find out who they were waiting for. After moving around to see through the dozens of head, he finally spots her. And him.
Y/N. It's her wedding. And she invited him of all people?
His brain short-circuits and he feels his heart pounding faster and faster. He can't think properly anymore, the only thing he can vividly see is her. How she smiles at every single person who congratulates her. How she clings onto this man as if her life depended on it. But most importantly, he sees how her smile just gets sadder when her eyes stop on him.
He knows time stops for the two of them before they walk towards each other. He knows so many things are still left unsaid. Gaining back his consciousness, he follows himself to watch what is about to happen.
She hugs him, a bit awkwardly. "I didn't think you'd come. Thank you."
"Congratulations," Minho says, retracting from the hug as fast as he can. "You two make a fine couple."
"Thanks," she chuckles. "Look, Min-" she starts but Minho shakes his head.
"Don't, it's okay. Enjoy your day."
Grateful, she sends him one last smile and moves to thank other guests. Chan, at this point, can do nothing else but pat his friend's shoulder. Surprisingly, Minho doesn't budge. He does, however, let one single drop fall from his eye.
"That's it?" he exclaims, now looking at F. "I'm not even trying? I just gave up? What even happened between then and that moment?"
"I've shown you plenty, you can figure it out by yourself," F says calmly and then begins to walk back to the metal box.
Minho, refusing this as an answer, runs to join him hastily. "Who's this guy, anyway?"
"Does it really matter? You two are not together anymore."
"Yes, if it can help me to prevent this."
"So you don't want her to be happy?" F perks an eyebrow making Minho groan in frustration.
"I'm asking you what I need to do to change this. It can't be like this. I'm the one who's supposed to marry her."
F smirks as they walk in the elevator, presses the button to the ground floor and finally looks at the man. "You know what has to be done, you're just afraid."
"Of what?"
"Oh, please. Stop with the act. How has the last year really been like for you?"
Minho gulps, already feeling himself choke up. "I-" he starts. "It's been hell."
F nods. "What else?"
"Y/N was right, as she always is... I'm the one who lost myself with time. I did want to marry her and I did not think she was obnoxious. Certainly not..."
He starts to cry, heavily this time. There is no more hiding or denying, he just said it all out loud. Regrets and pain, that's what's been eating him. He sobs as everything finally hits him so brutally. He lost Y/N for good. Or he will lose her for good if he keeps acting the way he does.
And his friends, the only people who stick with him through everything. The ones he keeps pushing away in fear of himself.
"You're home," the spirit says, interrupting the moment.
Minho doesn't hesitate to crash into his bed and sob some more. Even if F wanted to leave so badly, he doesn't think he should just yet. Cursing at himself, he comes to sit on the bed and pats the back of the broken man.
"It's alright, let it all out. You've had a rough night."
Minho hiccups and sniffles before glaring at the ghost. "No shit."
"You know, I think you can fix this."
Minho shrugs. "I've been horrible to everyone."
"You acknowledge it, that's a start. From there, only you can decide how things will be." F looks at his watch for a second and gasps. "I'm late for my next human! Good luck with everything."
Minho doesn't watch him leave. He is still crying but he has no more energy. He desperately wants to wake up, but mostly, he wants to see Y/N.
Minho doesn't wake up until the later morning. With the dream he just had, the sleep deprived guy seriously needed more than eight hours of resting. He does miss out work but, honestly, is not bothered the slightest. In fact, he is grateful he won't be working today.
After feeding Soonie, Doongie and Dori, he determines he should catch up on the gifts he planned on offering to his friends. Walking to his home office, he pulls out the wrapping paper he hadn't touched in a while and begins to wrap each and every single one of the presents he bought. He is definitely happy to have made some purchases the day he went shopping with Chan.
The task does grow tiring and boring after a while. To keep himself motivated, he plugs in his speaker to play some music and hums alongside the lyrics. He hasn't done that for a long time. As he is about to skip the current song playing on his playlist, his solo karaoke session is interrupted by a call coming in.
Not bothering to look at the contact, he answers happily. "Merry Christmas, you joined Lee Minho. How can I help you?"
The other side of the line is silent but he can hear that there is someone. Frowning, he repeats himself to encourage the person to talk.
"Minho, it's Changbin."
"Oh, hey! How are you doing? I was about to call you to ask what you wanted me to bring for tonight."
He senses that his friend is quite taken aback and he smiles proudly to himself.
"You're coming?"
"Unless I wasn't invited-"
"No, no," Changbin cuts him. "You're always welcomed, you know that. I'd just expected you to say you have work or something."
"I was supposed to clock in but I didn't feel like going to the office. Oh, by the way, can I ask a favor from you?"
"Uh, yeah, go ahead..." Changbin replies, skeptical.
"I know you're still in contact with Y/N."
Changbin, on his side, freezes. "How did you- Min, I swear we all wanted to tell you-"
"I'm not mad. I just wanted to know if you could possibly invite her and Deena for dinner, please? Don't tell them I'll be there, though."
"Are you certain?"
"Yes, I want it to be a surprise."
He doesn't say anything for a minute, processing what is happening. "Then, I'll invite them and say you aren't coming."
"Good! See you tonight! And tell your girlfriend I'm excited to meet her!"
He doesn't let Changbin question him on how he learned about his girlfriend and hangs up. Resuming to his activity, he stops when he sees Soonie playing with wrapping paper. Filming him, he coos at him before giving him loving scratches.
"I won't ever hurt you, I promise," he tell his cat, recalling what happened in his dream.
When he has finished with wrapping his gifts, he goes to his closet to find an appropriate attire for the night. For the last year, he hadn't wore anything other than work clothes and sweats. The nice shirt Y/N once bought him catches his attention. The dark green buttoned blouse seem to be a perfect match for his black clean pants. He changes fast and does not forget to add a few pieces of jewelry to finish his look.
He is all set to go. But one look at himself in the mirror at his entrance stops him for a moment. It suddenly clicks that he is a couple hours away from seeing Y/N again, for real this time. Although terrified, he has found some peace with it from the events of the previous night. He wants to make things right.
And one thing he can do just now is call his parents, the ones he has been ignoring for a year. He did expect his mother to cry but certainly not his father. Both incite him to come to his hometown in the following days and he can't refuse the invite. Not when they are begging with their puppy eyes.
"I'll come for New Year's, does it sounds okay?"
His mother nods vigorously through the screen of his phone. "Will Y/N be coming with you?"
He might have left out that he isn't with her anymore. Seeing the look on his parents' faces, he does not have the heart to tell them yet. Instead, he goes with a safe answer.
"I'll see with her if she can clear her schedule, but no promise."
"Tell her she's always welcomed here whenever. Merry Christmas, son!" his father wishes him adoringly.
He smiles, feeling suddenly nostalgic. "Merry Christmas to you two!"
And he hangs up.
Before going to Changbin's place, he doesn't forget to stop at the Christmas market to pay his friend, Hyunjin, a visit. Mentally preparing himself to face a pissed off Chan, he strolls between the booths and stops at a few of them. Some are selling soaps, a lot of them in fact. Others sell clothes they crocheted themselves and a few offer samples of their baked goods.
A few minutes later, Hyunjin's golden locks are easily found from afar. Minho also spots Chan, Seungmin and Felix. He has a heavy case of déjà-vu when he sees the four of them discuss with frowns on their faces.
Discreetly, he walks towards his friends who don't take knowledge of his presence yet. That is until he arrives right behind Felix.
"-stopping by her place today to see how she's doing but Minho would kill me if he discovers," the man is telling the others, oblivious that Minho is hearing everything.
Seungmin gulps and nods his head towards him but Felix cluelessly frowns. Hyunjin does the same which finally makes him turn around and come face to face with Minho. His eyes grow twice their sizes and his mouth opens slightly in shock.
"Hi, Yongbok," Minho says, unbothered. "Cute puppies you got, Hwang."
Hyunjin smiles, thankful. "Do you want to pet one? I've got this chihuahua that looks like Kkami."
He doesn't have the time to answer when a small dog is suddenly placed in his arms. With no complaint, he pets the puppy affectionately. The four men look at him, rather confused, and say nothing. They simply have no idea on how to react to this.
"Minho, what I said about Y/N- She- Uh... We-" Felix stammers out his words but Minho interrupts him.
"I know and it's all good. She is your friend too, I can't be mad at her for wanting to keep you all around."
"I see you've made some thinking," Chan finally speaks up, eyes stern.
"You can say that... I'm sorry about the other day, you were right. I shouldn't have shut you out of my life," he admits, much to his own surprise.
"Apology accepted," Chan grins. "A little birdie told me you asked Changbin to invite Y/N and Deena for dinner."
Seungmin's eyes lit up. "So you changed your mind? You'll come?"
Minho huffs. "I never said I wouldn't come."
Hyunjin sneers. "I know someone who'll be ecstatic about that."
The girl paces the floor nervously, biting her nails as she waits for her sister to arrive. Even if Changbin assured to her that her ex-fiancé wouldn't be attending the party, she can't help but feel like he will find out. She already feels guilty for keeping contact with his friends, who knows how he would react if he learns she went to celebrate Christmas with them.
As Deena finally walks in the apartment, she lets out a heavy sigh of relief. "Finally!"
Her sister rolls her eyes. "It took me barely five minutes to get here."
"Still," she chuckles sheepishly. "Thank you for coming with me."
"What would you do without me?" she exclaims dramatically. "For real, it's very nice for them to invite you. Especially after last year. Plus, it's better than our sappy sister date night."
Y/N lets out a small laugh but resumes automatically to biting down her lower lip in nervousness. Deena notices it but doesn't comment on it. Instead, she rushes her to leave, saying they will be late otherwise.
In the car, Y/N can't wait any longer. She has worries and needs to let them out or she'll go mad.
"What if Minho ends up showing up?"
Deena gives her a look but answers nonetheless. "He won't. And if he does, he'll have to suck it up and be an adult about you being there."
"Do you think he'll get mad when he discoverd that I still talked with the guys?"
"Y/N, for fuck's sake, it's not your problem to deal with! He's the one being a little bitch. Besides, you're not with him anymore."
"It doesn't mean I want to hurt him... and..."
She doesn't complete her sentence since she knows Deena must have understood right away. Y/N is still hopelessly in love with Minho. As much as she believes that leaving was the right thing to do, there were so many instances where she tried to convince herself that he'd change if she goes back to him.
She knows, deep down, she might be right on that.
"I can't believe you're actually here with actual presents!" Jisung almost yells as he brings his friend into a warm hug.
Hyunjin scoffs. "Let the man breathe! See, Min? I told you."
Minho taps Jisung's back a few times as to tell him to let go but he refuses, tightening the embrace. Jeongin is the one to break them apart to be the next in line to hug Minho. Everyone is baffled by his change of heart but they look past it and are simply grateful to have gotten their friend back.
"So? Is she coming?" Minho asks Changbin once he greeted everybody one by one.
"She confirmed she is."
Chan frowns and takes him by the shoulders. "Are you sure you want to talk to her?"
"Things were left unsaid, I need to clear this out once and for all."
Ding dong.
Oh. Now things are getting a bit too real, and panic begins to settle throughout his entire body. With once glance exchanged with Chan, it somehow reassures him. Still with his heart beating fast, he retreats himself behind the group as Changbin goes ahead to open the door.
She looks just like he remembers, stunning. There is, however, a hint of something he can't quite understand. She is paler and shyer. Past that, she is the same. While hugging everyone with her bright smile on her face, she shines. Minho is not too sure if he wants to ruin her brightness by letting his presence known. Looking around nervously, we wonders if this was a bad idea after all.
Before he can escape, he hears his name being called from afar; Jisung. Cursing at him mentally, Minho steps aside from behind Hyunjin and waves, embarrassed.
To no one's surprise, there is a moment of awkwardness settled in the room. While Minho is too ashamed to look back at her, Y/N can't rip her gaze away from him. She can't believe he is actually there. She has to make a mental note for later to smack Changbin for lying to her.
The moment is interrupted by Deena, thankfully. "Hey, Minho! I didn't think you'd be here."
"Hi Deena," he replies in a small voice.
This seems to be enough for the others to resume to their thing: Changbin taking his guests' coats to the other room while his girlfriend offers drinks, Deena putting the presents under the Christmas tree, Chan's wife and Felix's girlfriend sitting in a corner to discuss... Y/N, however, does not budge. Not until everyone leaves the entrance, revealing Minho standing in front of her.
"You dyed your hair?" he finally says, more or less to break the weird tension between the two.
She chuckles and runs her fingers through her longs brown locks. "I did, I thought a change might be good."
He nods as he puts his hands in his pockets, rocking his body back and forth. Now what? He knows he wants to talk about the obvious, but how?
"You're wearing that shirt," she points out with a smile. "It fits you well."
"Thank you. Your dress is cute."
"Thanks. I haven't wore this in a while."
"In a dress or not, you're cute either way."
She blushes. It's not as bad as she thought, they can at least do small talk. Still, this is far from being what she was used to with him. It suddenly snaps in her mind how much she missed him.
"I'll go get a drink, you're welcomed to come along," she offers which makes Minho smile.
Changbin's girlfriend makes no complaint when Minho asks her to make a specific drink, one Y/N would always get when they were together. It does not get unnoticed by the latter and she is amazed he remembers such details even after not speaking to each other for a whole entire year.
"You seem to be doing good," he comments once they get a hold of their alcoholic drinks.
"I'm not too bad. I joined a new law firm and, hopefully, they'll let me work on a case on my own."
It pains him to know she is still struggling with work, this was never an issue for him. "One day, someone will recognize your competence."
"Easy for you to say. I've heard you climbed status and have your own office?"
"Which one of the boys told you that?"
By the look on her face, he has managed to surprise her. "So you know."
He takes a sip of his glass and shrugs. "It did hurt a little that nobody told me but it's alright. You needed them as much as I did."
Her eyes soften. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be. I'm the jerk here. I pushed you away to the point you left and after you did, I was so close to losing all of my friends. You did nothing wrong."
She moves her head to the side, unsure on how to react. "We both made mistakes."
He scoffs. "Maybe, but you have to admit I did things way worse than you."
"It's alright, we're okay now. It wasn't meant to be."
His heart tightens and he scoffs once more. "What if it was?"
"Minho-"
"No, Y/N, listen to me for this one. Please." The gleam in his eyes convinces her and she nods for him to continue. "I don't know exactly what happened, it might be work, but I lost myself at some point. I never thought weddings were bullshit, not once in my life. My dream the moment I met you was to put a ring on your finger."
Minho stops himself and gives a scan around to make sure nobody is watching. He is thankful when he realizes his friends are busy with watching a funny video on Felix's phone. With no hesitation, he takes Y/N's hand and moves her sleeve up to reveal her engagement ring, still beautifully worn on her finger. Embarrassed, she is quick to retract her hand back in hiding. How did he know if she has been hiding it as soon as she saw him?
"And I think you might still want that."
Her eyes get watery when she forces herself to stare back at him. "This year has been... a lot. I was not ready to remove it just yet and, I guess I just got used to wearing it."
Although tempted to correct her as he know the truth, Minho does not insist any more. Instead, he sends her a look that says he understands. Almost as if it was planned, Chan calls everyone in the living room to open the presents and to, as they do every year, make a toast.
It takes a few minutes until everyone is sat and silent but once they seem good to go, Chan nods his head at Minho. "Why don't you do the honours this year, Min?"
"Oh, um..."
"I think it won't be appropriate if it is anybody else other than you," Seungmin adds to which the others seem to agree on.
Reluctantly, he gets up from his seat and clears his throat. "First of all, I'd like to apologize for the way I've been acting. I was going through a lot and I shouldn't have imposed it on you, I'm sorry. Second of all, thank you all for sticking by my side although I was a total asshole."
"Heck yeah, you are," he hears Changbin jokingly respond.
"Something else I want to mention," he continues, ignoring his friend, "is how much regret I've felt this year. Y/N?"
All eyes move to her figure by the mention of her name. She looks at Minho, feeling a bit intimidated, but smiles to let him know she wants him to go on.
"I've never loved anyone else more than I have with you. I am aware things were not ideal but you brought the best out of me. I'm sorry I had to be the one ruining this for us. I love you still and I can only wish you the best from now on." He gives the others a last glance before raising his glass. "Thank you Changbin for hosting this year's party, and merry Christmas!"
Even though the entire room cheers and applauds in response to Minho's sweet speech, Y/N is not mentally there anymore. Her mind going wild, she can't think straight other than what Minho has said. She undeniably still loves him, more than she'd like to admit. But is she ready to let him in again?
"Hey," Deena calls her out, shaking her away from her thoughts. "You might want to figure some things out with lover boy."
Her face grows red. "You think so?"
"He just left outside to go for a walk but I'm sure he isn't too far yet. Go join him."
"I don't know..."
"Y/N, stop being in denial. You still love him, he still loves you, he obviously wants you back... Just go get him already."
Slightly intimidated by her sister, she doesn't need to be told twice to go grab her coat and boots, and walk out the door. She expected for him to be at least further away on the street but it is definitely a surprise to see him sitting down on the porch. His back facing her, she quietly approaches him and sits beside him.
There is a moment of quietness before he finally looks at her. "It's snowing."
She chuckles. "Thank you for the info, Mr. Obvious."
They share a laugh and both go back to watching the snowflakes fall. It's calm and peaceful, Minho loves it. It painfully reminds him of many occurrences where they'd watch outside the window for no reason on snow days.
"That was a good speech you just made."
He smirks. "I know."
His playful demeanor is something she doesn't remember seeing in the last moments of their relationship. It feels nice to see him back, as himself.
"What you said earlier, did you mean it?"
He frowns. "The part about regrets? Yeah, I mean, I was an ass and it didn't help me getting better so... I just know I want to fix it."
She shakes her head. "Not just that. The part about still loving me."
He moves his eyes from the snow to her own and she looks at him expectedly. She is so pure, he hates himself from even thinking he had hurt her. Carefully, he takes her hands in his and sets himself just a bit closer to her while still giving her space. He feels the sweat on his forehead, waiting for either getting rejected or getting the love of his life back. Either way, he has to say it. He's been putting it off for too long.
"I meant every word I said, I still and will always love you. How can I not? You're sensitive, smart, beautiful, and so caring. You always put me before yourself. So far, you were ready to give up your cats so I could have them because you knew I needed them."
"Minho-"
"No, you don't get to interrupt me until I'm finally done saying what I have to say. Y/N, never once did I think you were obnoxious. You see beauty in everything, something I'm incapable of doing and that's what bugged me. It bothered me how you are so perfect while I am not even close to be as loving as you are."
She scoffs with a knowing smile pending on her lips. "Now, I'll have to cut you here. You don't see yourself how I see you, Minho. Why do you think I fell in love with you in the first place? You have your own little ways of showing affection, each cuter than the other. I don't mind the rest because I know you do love me."
"I hurt you," he argues sadly.
"And I forgive you, just as long as you don't do it again," she grins, tightening her grasp on his hands.
Minho raises an eyebrow in confusion. "You forgive me... As in-"
"Don't make me say it, I have my own pride too."
Minho wipes away his tears he hadn't realized were starting to fall on his face and doesn't lose another second to bring her close to him and crash his lips onto hers. They're just like he remembered and maybe better, sweet and soft. At that point, both of them are crying. Only this time, it's not because they are hurting. So many feelings are said through the kiss and not a single one is coming from pain. It's sereine and warm, Minho can feel his whole body get lighter.
"Fuck, I missed you so much," he says when they break away, holding her close to his chest. "I'm never letting you go again."
"You better," she chuckles through a sniff.
The door behind them opens wide with more than seven pairs of eyes on them. Minho blushes while Y/N hides herself in the crook of his neck.
"So we good? Everything is sorted out? Please, the food is ready and I'm starving," Jisung complains, receiving a smack from Changbin.
"You're not starving and let them have their moment!"
Jeongin sighs. "I think the moment was already ruined.
The couple, who are still sitting, explode in laughter before getting up and joining their friends in the warmth of their home where Changbin's girlfriend has selected a nice Christmas playlist to complete the ambiance. Music Minho recognizes to be Y/N's favourites. A coincidence? Probably but he likes to believe it isn't.
While the boys congratulate him for being back together with his love, Minho looks outside through the window one last time. He isn't too sure if what he sees is right but four figures seem to look at him proudly.
While nobody is watching, he mouthes a "thank you" before the silhouettes fade away in the wind.
Minho still doesn't know to this day if what happened that night was real or not. One thing for sure is he can't be any more thankful for these spirits. Most importantly, he is finally in a happy place.
