my friend and i said that goblin slayer is that one friend whose been playing dnd for years already, knows the dm’s shenanigans with demon lord and everything and just decides “nah we’re going to slay goblins” and because he’s the highest level character everyone follows through with it and the DM just sheds tears

you are more accustomed to the sound of dripping blood and cracking skulls than you are to the sound of ally foosteps. which is why in the darkness of the cave where the walls could hug a blade the sound of loud ( louder than a goblin at least ) footseps causes alarm. causes you to turn, red eye glowing.
you would have lunged, or thrown --- thrown would have been better. keep the range from the enemy goblin in case it had a bastard friend. you learned that. if one goblin is approaching you from behind it's because it wants to draw your attention, to bring you into it's friends.
it is not a goblin. it is a boy. an adventurer.
