kalego is so fun as a character because nishi understands that for the hardass teacher with a heart of gold thing to actually work you need to establish that the teacher, y'know, cares about the wellbeing of children and makes an effort to live according to those principles. and then the fact that we do ultimately like kalego means its like ten million times better every time opera decides they need to try and make him miserable every time they're in the room together for absolutely no reason other than the sport of it.
