one thing i really, really like about choji's characterization is that his kindness is encouraged and nurtured instead of demonized as weak, he's really good representation of not only someone who would've been seen as overweight at the time of naruto's serialization, but also positive masculinity, and that's a great thing coming out of naruto of all places.

#like his character isn't perfect by any means #ino and shikamaru still make fun of his weight (though team 10 is framed as a sibling dynamic which i feel is necessary context for this->#(doesn't make it right but constant insults at each other are a part of their group dynamic)#and asuma also comments on his weight tho it is mostly as a health concern which feels less cruel than ino and shikamaru #but overall i do really choji as a character and i really wish he and ino had gotten the same amount of focus as shikamaru does #though i can say that for 80 percent of the supporting cast #like we literally get more backstory on random villains and akatsuki members (why was the kisame backstory necessary??) than core->#members of the original cast #shino gets literally nothing and there's a bit of backstory for kiba and akamaru but almost nothing about kiba as a person outside that #and hinata's entire character is related to drawing her self worth from others (specifically neji and naruto)#and don't get me started on sakura she got done so dirty #anyway #glen rambles #naruto #choji akimichi

sasuke uchiha is a great character not only because the portrayal of a kid with ptsd in a world that encourages revenge through violence who is being exploited by others for their own personal gain is really really well done, but also because he is the epitome of a sad wet cat.
