It is weekend again! Time to rest and recharge your batteries. Besides spending time with your family, reading a book and eating healthy you also should think about your sleeping habits. Especially on weekends you have time to invest in your sleep. That is why we researched eight weekend sleep hacks for you.
#1 Use the 90-minute rule
Your sleep cycle lasts approx. 90 minutes. Find out when you should fall asleep if you want to wake up at a precise time, so that you wake up at the end of one of your sleep cycles. You will feel more refreshed if you do that.
#2 If you like napping, do it between 1pm and 3pm
Between 1pm and 3pm your general alertness level drops. It is the natural time for a quick nap.
#3 Drink a coffee before a your nap
Caffeine will start to work after 20 minutes, meaning that if you drink an espresso before napping it will kick in when you wake up, making you extra alert.
Exercise is always good for your and your body. But especially for a good night’s sleep you should engage in two and a half hours of moderate aerobic activity or one and a quarter hours of more vigorous activity per week. If you have no time during the week, you can catch up on weekends! Be creative!
#5 Avoid bright screens in the few hours before bed
Research has shown that blue light keeps you awake because it suppresses the production of melatonin. More here: http://sleepfoundation.org/sleep-topics/melatonin-and-sleep
#6 Use neutral sounds to tackle noise pollution
When you’re asleep your brain is listening out for dangerous sounds. Research shows that white noise or nature sounds can drown out annoying noises. You ca always listen to our spotify SLEEP TI8HT playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/user/luxuryeight/playlist/4Zt5UkdSCZwrhe3QD81ZXD
#7 Have a bath just before bed
A bath around bedtime has been shown to increase sleep quality. Also it is weekend... you have time for this. Spoil yourself with a long warm bath before going to bed.
#8 Introduce something lavender-scented in your bedroom
Lavender is known to be used for treating anxiety, insomnia, depression and restlessness. You could try using an aroma-diffuser or lavender-infused bed linen as for example LUXURY EIGHT Bed Linen .
