Yancy and Raleigh didn't fight often. They aren't fighters. But when they did find themselves in the situation, Yancy would usually try to end it fast, grab Rals, and book it.
Raleigh's first words were actually things Yancy would say to Raleigh.
"No, Raleigh!" "No!" "Stop copying me!" And a baby's laugh would follow, along with a disgruntled sigh.
Yancy would buy Cosmic brownies for Raleigh when they were younger. And then proceed to tease him about the sparkles.
Bang.
The brisk Autumn air blows through Riley’s hair as she makes her way down the street, her hands nestled in her pockets as the sign for the bar comes into view a few blocks away. It’s been a year since she crashed into Yancy on the sidewalk, the coffee spilling on them both, the sweater now tucked away in her closet. Slowly his form appeared out of the evening shadows, oh how she loved that bedhead and sleepy smile that he forever had. Raising her hand to wave their was a sudden bang that filled the air. Did it get colder? Looking down she noticed the red now seeping through her jacket. Oh. Blue eyes locked to Yancy’s before she falls to the ground.
He's got two cups of coffee in the both of his hands. He likes his with a bunch of half and half and some milk; she likes hazelnut and sugar. He's known this for awhile now, just like how he knows what time she wakes up because that's when the bed gets colder, or how he knows her favorite cakes are Ptichye Moloko Cake. Because it's Riley and, yeah, she's a part of him, as sappy as that will sound if he ever gets the chance to tell her that on their wedding day. Which he's seeing more of a possibility every day now. His eyes find her right away and he's grinning because how could he not? Foot out onto the street to cross it and suddenly there's a loud noise. It reverberates and there's screaming to the left and right of him. He's not entirely sure where the sound came from but he's glancing back at her with the intent to share a look of What the hell was that? but he doesn't have a question left in him as his gaze land back upon Riley Volkov. Crimson blossoms over her chest, bleeding into the jacket she's had since he's known her. And nothing but cold terror rushes over him. The coffee is split on the ground as he's taking off across the road. She falls to the ground and he's screaming her name. Nothing but her name because, maybe, in that moment that's all he really knows. (In the back of your mind, there's always been the fear that you should be with your loved ones at all times and you have. You've done that, right? Because it's you who is on burrowed time. Not them.) Craddling Riley in his arms, Yancy Becket's shaking as another wave of something worse washes over him. Something dark and completely filled with grief because this really shouldn't be happening. (You're not even sure why it's not. You just know that it shouldn't. That something is very wrong here.) Her face is in his hands and he's murmuring her name. It comes out in sobs and he's praying that she's not gone but knows she is. He can't explain why. He just knows. He presses their foreheads together, willing her to come back. (It's the same block they first met and later you think how fucking cruel the irony is.) The next moment he's snapping his eyes open and sucking in a breath, sharp and his chest feels constricted. He's in his bed and it's about two in the morning. It's dark and cold. Yancy runs a hand through his hair and feels like picking up the phone to call the girl he just met the other day. Just to see if she's okay. But he leans his head against the wall and focuses on breathing instead.j "Fuck."
How one may portray the eldest Becket when he does have his glasses on.
Yancy is near sighted. He wears glasses only when he has to. He'd get it corrected but never had the need to.

Riley welcomed the chilly Washington air with open arms, the windy blowing marginally through her hair. Maybe she should have worn a hat. Oh well, too late to go back now. The books she was carrying were the perfect size to fit into her bag without a problem, so she tucked them away as she made her way down the street. At the moment she is wondering why she scheduled her first class so early in the morning, well now she blamed the University for having 7:30am classes, she picked it without hesitation figuring that the earlier she started the earlier she would be done and that equaled more time to work.
Money was something Riley did not have a lot of. Left on her own after the death of her family she used their assets to move to America and start a higher education, but she had underestimated the cost of living and was left with a large bill that she had no idea how to pay. Part-time jobs filled up what time she had left in her day; a waitress here, a secretary there, but nothing really paid what she really needed. That is until she had heard of a place in town called The Dome; a strip club. Riley made sure to not tell anyone she was going to the club to apply for the job, but if anyone did find out maybe they’d suddenly forget and wake up with a rather large bump on their head. It wasn’t that she was ashamed of it (okay maybe a little bit) but she just didn’t want anyone to know. Some things were private, right?
Pausing in the middle of the sidewalk she stood on her tip toes, peering over small buildings trying to locate one in particular that she had seen once before. The sign for Choi’s Coffee Shop loomed into view and she settled on her feet with a smile, that was her destination. Rounding a corner with her head down, trying to shove her phone in her purse, Riley soon collided with a rather large figure, the liquid she soon found out was coffee sloshing over them both.
A sharp gasp left her lips, the sweater protecting her skin from the hot liquid but she could still feel its light sting. Well, there goes that sweater, unless she got it under some cold water but seeing as she was twenty minutes from her apartment, that wasn’t happening. Her bag toppled to the ground on impact, a knee jerk reaction and she was glad she’d put her books away earlier; she didn’t have money for a new set. Looking down at her coffee stained form she frowned, the man she had run into was apologizing and he sounded oddly calm. Slowly she raised her head to finally meet his gaze.
“When you walked into the room just then, it’s like the sun came out.”
Oh. He was handsome, very handsome, beautiful eyes are the first thing she noticed. The second thing was the rather large coffee stain now discoloring his white sweater. Taking the napkin in her hands she didn’t wipe at her own sweater, instead her small hand reached out to dab at his, flicking her eyes to his with a light smile. “Tis alright. Ve both not vatching vhere ve going, yeah?”
Retracting her hand she frowned at her own sweater, looked to his and then back to her own. “Cold vater helps”, she mumbled out. If it were anyone else who had just spilled their coffee on one of her favorite sweaters she would have been livid, the Russian swear words piercing the ears of the poor civilian; but with him she found no anger. Brushing at her chest she bent down to pick up her bag, before straightening up and fixing her gaze on him once more. “Know place we can rinse off?”
Yancy Becket has had plenty of romantic interests in his life. Not plenty but enough for him. He'd like to blame the fact that his brother scares off at least half of them by acting like a puppy his entire life. Yancy couldn't count how many times he's been left standing, looking after a potential date, as his brother's asking him when they can go with an expectant grin on his face. He's still trying to figure out if he does it on purpose or not. Half of the other time, however? Yeah, he might be good at turning girls away all by himself. He's good at the smooth part; he's a people person when he's not in his bed, snoring life away. But, well, there's the whole 'interesting' part and Yancy isn't good at laying that out on the table right away. And then there's times like these, when he manages to make the worst possible first impression known to man. Spilling coffee is a new one, actually. He hasn't done that to anyone. (Well, he might have done it once to his father when he was twelve; it had been his dad's own coffee and he swore at their mother and he 'accidentally' knocked the cup over.) Contrary to everyone's belief, Yancy can be pretty graceful. He manages not to fall out of bed, slip in the shower, poke himself in the eye with a comb, knock over his sister when she comes dashing through the hallways. Yeah, Yancy's graceful. Probably not as great as Raleigh, who got the dance lessons when they were younger, but Yancy can get around. So spilling a hot drink all over a rather attractive person is the last thing he ever expected of himself. And how the universe managed to screw him the fuck over because, wow, she's beautiful. Not in the attractive way. She glances up at him and moves with a certain agility that he's never seen before. Yancy's suddenly wondering why he's picking up on these things anyway. Because, yeah, that makes him a little weird. Especially since he basically ruined her morning. Which he's not likely to forget. God, he's such a damn idiot. But then she's dabbing at his own sweater and he doesn't move at all. His eyes can't leave her (not like they could from the start) and he's very, very still. It takes him a few moments before he realizes she hadn't moved to take care of her own shirt but instead trying to wipe off the mess he had made on himself in the process. Oh, that's right, he got coffee on himself too. He doesn't really care, honestly. Because he's had this sweater for years and getting rid of it is probably the best thing to happen to him for the month. But she's---well, Yancy feels a little bit worse about the whole thing. And then she smiles. So it's his heart that stops this time. She's speaking to him and he raises his eyebrows on instinct to appear that he's registering what she's saying and, yeah, he sort of is but he's picking up strange things. Like the fact that she's certainly from Russia but she must have been in Washington for awhile now because she's got to know about the culture if she speaks that way. Or how much more smoother she's being with the whole fact that she just got coffee spilled all over her. And her style of dress and, fuck, what's wrong with him? This is what you would call a creeper. Or something along those lines. Definitely along those lines. God help him. Or whatever deity that had been assigned to look over him. Her question jolts him from staring (fuck, he was staring too long, nice) and he's glancing wildly around. "Uh---yeah, actually." He takes a large step away from her (and of course he had been standing too close, at least he's keeping his cool and not fumbling over his words or freaking out), looking for Choi's little shop. He turns back to her and offers a smile that he hopes comes off as friendly enough and not screaming douchebag. "---My friend has a place over there. A coffee shop. There's a restroom." He's wincing now, guilt still pretty clear and the calmity seems to be slipping just a bit more. "Look, I really am sorry. I just--wow, I'm so sorry. Anything I could do? Show you there, buy you a new shirt?" He's more joking at that part but a part of him is a bit serious. And he's not sure why. Probably the guilt talking. "God, I'm sorry, here let me show you the coffee shop. I mean, if you'd like to go, of course." Okay, so now he's not Mr. Smooth. Looks like he doesn't need Raleigh to make him look bad after all.
Let’s all take a moment to recognize that Yancy Becket was a stone cold stud.
Start of Time // Rancy
It’s Monday, not her favorite day of the week but she’ll make it by, she always does. Throwing the blankets off Riley immediately turns around to make the messy bed, tugging at the sheets until not a wrinkle is present. Bare feet pad across the floor, through her apartment she walks to the kitchen, turning on the burner to start boiling water for tea. It is the same routine every morning: make the bed, make tea, check the weather, get dressed, review last nights work and then head out for the day. She likes things like that, expected with no surprises, though she could use some disorder in her life.
Fresh faced and school work in hand she makes her way down the busy streets, the sun shinning and bouncing off of metallic surfaces. It’s a bit warm for a November day so the scarf as been left behind and she instead sports a light sweater, leggings, and boots. The University campus too far for most to walk to, but Riley actually likes traveling the distance each day. A small chime from her phone causes her to pause, fishing the electronic device out of her purse before tapping the screen; an email.
Her first class is canceled. That’s fine, she’ll still need to be on campus for her others, now she just had a bit of down time for. Ping. Another email, her second class is canceled too. Odd. Her phone pings another two times and suddenly her day is cleared, each of her professors canceling class at the last minute. What to do with an empty day? In the middle of the street she ponders this before shrugging and beginning to walk once more, only now her direction has changed. Coffee sounds good right about now.
Yancy's not a morning person. In fact. He's not a person who likes being awake in general. Ask his brother and sister, they'll tell anyone outright he loves to sleep his life away and Yancy won't even bother defending himself. Because it's true. But sleeping won't pay the bills and he's not interested in being labeled lazy because he just wants to sleep. So the job opening at The Dome nearby seems sort of like a calling. And he would like to look his best, after all. So he gets up somewhere at six in the morning and decides that, yeah, cool, he'll just get some coffee. He drags himself out of his bed and into the other room, peering into Raleigh's. Figures. The puppy of a brother is already gone. Why is he not surprised? They got the job together but Raleigh sort of lives in the moment and loves being the active one of the family. He's sure Jazmine is somewhere outside doing something too. With a yawn, Yancy begins getting ready for the day. Shower, dark blue jeans, a woven white long sleeved shirt and a brown winter coat. He's used to the cold. Born and raised in Alaska, so it didn't bother him too much. November air isn't such a big deal but he doesn't feel like getting a cold. But---he does like the coffee shop (Choi's Shop or something; Tendo changes the name, like, every five months) at the end of the street and he's totally getting some before he officially starts this annoying day. He yawns again as he makes his way outside the door and locks it. He buries his hands within his coat and is on his way. A thought to his hair makes him pause on the sidewalk. Oh, yeah. He can't look like he's got bedhead. Eh, whatever. Girls like that look on strippers, right? Actually, he has no idea. He's basically winging most of his life at this point. Walking into the shop, Yancy waits a few minutes in line with his natural bored look. He thinks about ordering something with lots of caffeine and sugar for the special occasion. Maybe he'll be like Raleigh and bounce off the walls by tonight. ...Nah. Not possible. He orders latte with melting whip cream and something with the word 'caramel' in it. Okay, so he doesn't always pay attention to detail unless it matters, all right? He takes a napkin, waves to Ashley Choi in the back, who gives him a small wink and he laughs quietly, shaking his head as he begins out of the shop. Now, Yancy Becket can be graceful. Or, he'd like to think so. In fact, he's pretty sure he can be good at it, from time to time. But the fact that he spins around a corner a little too fast on the sidewalk and crashes right into someone gives the picture of someone who is rather clumsy all the time. Oh--and coffee is split. Yay. Yancy is scrambling to help whatever victim had fallen prey to his large frame and haste, inwardly freaking out and trying his hardest not sound like a total goof. "Oh, god, I'm so sorry. Here--" he thrusts his only napkin out to help the poor woman he had managed to spill coffee all over. It's over him too but, hey, his brown coat has suffered more than coffee stains, so it's all good. "Forgive me," Yancy prides himself in the fact that he manages to sound somewhat calm and sincere despite wanting to freak out and dry off the coffee himself. "I never pay attention when I should be, I guess." And then he looks at her. Wonderful. He's accomplished in covering coffee on a very pretty girl. I'm so stupid. Dammit.
That day Yancy Becket was 1000% done with everyone’s shit.
