What phase of the moon are you? by ezekiel
Like the moon, we all go through different phases in life. From month to month, year to year, hour to hour, we wear different faces and are compelled by different energies. Which of the eight phases of the moon best corresponds to the person you are right now?

Nonverbal Witchcraft
For my witches who cannot speak, struggle to speak, or choose to remain quiet.
This post is a compilation of ideas and personal methods from fellow nonverbal witches. Not everything may fit for you, but hopefully it will give you a starting point!
Spells:
Write the words and focus your energy on bringing them into being. You could burn the piece of paper to finish off the spell. One contributor also mentions burying the paper.Â
Our thoughts are powerful. Focus, and say the words in your mind.
You can also mouth the words without speaking them, if that helps you.
Whispering is also great if that works for you!
Find power in silence, use it as its own tool.
Use instruments to create certain rhythms for different spells, instead of chanting.Â
If sound is helpful, play music that you feel relates/connects you to the spell.
Cast circles and finalize spells by snapping.
Sigils are concentrated intentionâuse that to your advantage. They can absolutely be a base for spellwork.Â
Use a power source; the elements (candles, soil, the air around you, a bowl of water, etc.), crystals, burning herbs, etc.
To feel energy without using words to confirm: use tools that have stronger energy that you can physically feel. Â
Make spell candles, jars or sachets.Â
Use sign language! Iâm of the opinion that everyone should at least learn the basics, and there are plenty of free resources out there!
Specific spells:
Casting a circle:Â âYou can cast a circle by walking in a circle and visualizing your footsteps imprinting on the earth below, creating a barrier of light (color chosen to correspond to intention at the time), walk the circle 3 times and see the barrier in your mind forming a perfect sphere around your work space, becoming brighter and stronger each step you take.â*
To banish: write the things you wish to banish on a piece of paper, light them on fire with a black candle and place in a burn bowl.Â
To release and invite: use two pieces of paper. On one, write down everything youâd like to release from your life. On the other, write down everything youâd like to invite into your life. Burn the release paper and dispose of the ashes, keep the invite paper. (Optional: I like to do this on the new moon, and have a black candle above the release paper and a white candle above the invite paper).
Protective charm: (click here)
To raise you out of a dark place: (click here)
Spell of destruction: (click here)
Energy work:
Use a cajon, bells, singing bowl, steel tongue drum/moondrum, or other instruments to raise energy!
âI have a specific snapping rhythm that is âmagic timeâ. When I snap the rhythm once or three times itâs go time and I fall into the zone.â*
âFor energy work and to raise energy I dance and as my heartbeat gets louder in my ears I mentally chant with it, focusing on a short phrase, intention, or incantation with the energy I physically raised and the meditative repetition of my mind.â*
Use a power source; the elements, crystals, burning herbs, etc.
Most energy work involves movement, rather than words (click here for energy work with restricted movement).
Other ideas:
Worship: write letters, devote your actions, decorate an altar. Prayers donât need to be spoken! Or write your prayers and place them on an altar, burn them, or keep them. (Bedridden worship)
Divination doesnât require spoken word, especially once you have a bond with your tools. You can always use writing, sigils, or your thoughts to channel your intent/question. (Bedridden divination)
Charge crystals with your intent and wear them/carry them in a pouch.Â
Kitchen witchcraft, garden magic, tea magic, etc. etc.Â
Utilize the correspondences of the items in your life.Â

Stop Memorizing Your Tarot Cards
Stop memorizing your Tarot cards. Burn the little white book. Learn to read images.
I beat this drum incessantly in the Tarot community. In the past Iâve emphasized the ease of this approach, and it is, actually, much easier and much less tedious than memorizing descriptions. If you sit with a card and allow your mind to wander freely, you will come up with dozens of associations for each card that are just as valid as anything Waite or Crowley came up with. Probably more valid. Nothing Iâve read by any occultist has helped me heal a broken heart, but sitting with the emotions that bubble up when Iâm hurting and looking at the 3 of Swords certainly has.
The hardest part of learning to read images is unshackling yourself from the tyranny of words. There are schools of thought that teach a thought doesnât exist until itâs formed itself into words, but art proves the lie of that, dripping through the spaces between the letters, reaching the places words canât reach. Who was the ballerina who said, âIf I could tell you what the dance was saying, I wouldnât have had to dance it?â
Tarot is art. You canât just call the High Priestess âintroversionâ and call it a day. Thatâs like trying to reduce Hamlet to the word âindecisive.â
Tarot cards arenât words. They arenât even sentences. They are libraries.
And your mind already knows how to read them.
Choose a card. Any card. Sit with it for five minutes and watch where your mind goes.
Thatâs all you have to do.

Apple Tree Visualization
Achieve a meditative state.
Keeping your eyes closed, concentrate on the emptiness in front of you. Â Using your mindâs eye, create the image of an apple in that space. Â For the moment, just concentrate on holding that image. Â After a moment or two, examine your apple. What color is it? Look over its peel. Â What shape is it? Â Look over its bumps and curves. Â Is there a stem or a leaf? Â Explore those too if there are there. Â Rotate the apple, look at all its sides, its top, and its bottom.
Now, change the color of your apple. If it was red, make it green or yellow. Rotate it again now. Â Explore how it has changed and how it has stayed the same.
Slice your apple in half, so you can see its seeds. Â Examine them, the five pointed star they form. Â Now remove the seeds from the apple. Â Let the apple fade away, so only the seeds remain. Â Now picture the seeds in your hands. Look around, you are now in a field. Â Plant the seeds in the ground in front of you. Â Now, âfast forwardâ the growth of the tree. Watch the shoot sprout from the ground, growing taller, branching out. Â Picture the buds appearing. Â Watch as the leaves and flowers burst forth. Â As your tree matures, watch the blossoms fall off and apples grow in their place. Â Watch as the grow round and ripe. Â
When they look ready, pick one. Â Hold it in your hand. Â Examine it. What color is it? Â What shape is it? Â Turn it around in your hands. Â Now, take a bite. Â How does it taste? Sweet? Bitter? Â How does it feel? Â Crisp? Wet?
Look back to your tree. Â Now the apples are all ripening. Â Heavy with their fullness, the begin to fall from the tree. Â Watch as the fall, hear the thud they make as they hit the earth. Look at the leaves, the have turned orange-brown. Â They will start to fall too. Â Watch until your tree is barren. Â Now watch as the snow begins to fall. Â Lightly at first, dusting the tree with its crystals. Â Then feel the cold wind pick up, watch as it buries your tree in snow.
Now, watch the snow melt away. Â Feel the sun begin to beat down on your tree, feel its warmth. Â Â Watch as the buds appear again. Â Then the flowers and leaves. Â Then the apples. Â Take one last look at your tree. Â Now, begin to leave your meditative state.

New Witch: How do I meditate?
Bitter Experienced Witch: Hell if I know!
bruh ive been practicing for like 6 years and im STILL tryna find out how
Right!? Meditation is a journey not a destination. Am I meditating or is it a nap?
My best advice, from both like a quarter century trying to witch and spending a lot of time in therapy?
Stop trying so hard. Which is a bitch of a thing to say I know, but hang with me.
We have this really weird notion in our head that meditation looks like sitting silent in a dark room doing nothing and thinking nothing, and thatâs⊠thatâs not accurate?
Meditation is just spending quality time with yourself. Itâs hanging out with your best friend on a nice summer day or chilling in a basement doing absolutely nothing except whatever you feel like.Â
Except your best friend is you.
Itâs sitting in your favourite chair knitting. Itâs writing in your diary. Itâs going for a long but not strenuous walk. Itâs dancing to your favourite song. Itâs skipping rocks in a pond. Itâs playing tetris. Itâs stimming. Itâs reciting your favourite prayer/poem sixteen times. Itâs brushing and replaiting your hair. Itâs sweeping the floor, or doing the dishes, or washing windows, or polishing the good wood furniture. Itâs giving yourself a pedicure. Itâs setting the alarm ten minutes early so you can drink coffee staring out the window at the sunrise before anyone else wakes up. Itâs a bath, at midnight, with only a candle. (And youâre starting to be, âwait J some of these sound like self-care not meditation, right?â But *why* do these things care for your self? What are you *actually* accomplishing when you do them? Whatâs your frame of mind?)Â
Itâs not zoning out, itâs being intentional, but youâre gonna also zone out sometimes that thatâs fine. You canât fail at meditating, anymore than you fail at laundry just because thereâs always more.
Itâs whatever lets you just exist with yourself, for two seconds, no judgment. And maybe that *is* sitting in a dark room staring at a candle for five minutes. Thatâs certainly one of my favourite ones. But if that makes you more unsettled more dissociated more scattered, thatâs *okay*, donât do that. (And it *can* and *nobody* warns you about that. The wrong kind of meditation for you can make you worse not better. Listen to your body, if you hate something youâre almost always right to.)
Youâre trying to get yourself into a place where you feel your feet and you exist behind your eyes. Youâre trying to just let yourself be, to take the thoughts you have as they come, to take the body you have as it is, to take the moment for what it is. If you canât do that sitting still *that is valid*. Thatâs why dancing is the one constant in all paths of witchcraft. Thatâs why singing and chanting and choreographed movements are part of pretty much all spiritual practices.
Itâs not a test, thereâs no meditation police who will come yell at you if youâre not completely silent and still.
Beautiful advice :)
why do i have to find an actual job instead of being the apprentice of the old witch who lives in the woods?
