Hello! This is a blog where I will post about the shows I love and often about my most recent watches. Additionally I will post little snippets of my life (where I've been, about my daily life in college, etc.). Occasionally it gets quite existential but not very frequently so you don't have to worry about that 😅

I won't use my real name on here, but you can call me Gold

I identify as agender and will use they/them pronouns

I live in the UK

I have the rationality of a toddler with a sugar rush if I have the chance to talk about my interests

I LOVE FOLK HORROR (The Wicker Man is one of my favourite films)

I WILL ABSOLUTELY TAKE FILM RECOMMENDATIONS! My taste is pretty dark so if I mention having watched and enjoyed a film that you think is in a similar vein to another film, please do tell. I love movies but I have obviously not seen every film in the universe so there is a high chance that I haven't seen the film you recommend.

Just finished In The Earth. Christ I feel motion sick 😅🥹

(Slight spoilers ahead!)

I will say I preferred the first half of the film to the second, and part of that is because I felt I understood what was going on in the first half more so than the second.

- me at multiple points: "OOH [REECE] IS CREEPY I LOVE IT 😆"

Was surprised at the inclusion of COVID into the story. Got a chuckle out of me when Alma said "things will go back to normal quicker than you think...[people]'ll just get back to their old ways".

I think I liked where I thought it was going more than where it actually ended up - I thought it would focus more on the folklore part of Parnag Fegg, with the offerings and sacrifices that Zach partook in progressively increase in severity. When they introduced the more scientific parts (communicating through the use of light and sound), I felt I lost interest slightly.

The acting was very strong, and I physically felt the pain that Joel Fry's character went through (much and often XD).

Fsr my brain struggled to recognise Reece at first, which I do not understand?? I recognised all of his features, I've seen him in plenty of different physical appearances, and yet hearing his voice come from Zach was disorienting to me 🤣 Maybe it was the longer hair and beard which I'm not used to seeing him with?

I can usually watch gore, but I had to look away at multiple points during this, namely the amputation of Martin's toes (they really built up to it by having Zach miss multiple times before hitting his foot, and then for him to hit different places eachtime, absolutely horrible! XD)

Oh, and Zach getting stabbed in the eye towards the end, I nearly ran out of the room istg.

- Me about Zach during his introduction: "Kind eyes, kind nature, kind voice. Still don't trust him."

I did appreciate some of the realistic reactions from Alma, especially because often she'd say something I said a second before 🤣

- Olivia: "Alma, I would think that was clear by now, no?"

Me: "not really, no"

Alma: "no, not really, no"

I will say I hateddddd the strobe lights and noises, not to mention the scenes with multiple images a second, the spinning cameras and the extremely enshrouding mist around the midpoint of the film. I would not recommend watching this if you experience strong motion sickness as I do. Probably the most visceral reaction I've had as a result of watching a film. However, the visuals towards the end of the film, the slow lingering misty shots, I did think were rather beautiful.

Overall, I didn't hate it, but i didn't love it? I was intrigued by Zach as a character (not just because it was Reece 🫣🤭), but as a result meant i was slightly disappointed when he barely appeared in the second half, but the focus was more on Olivia during that part. Great acting from Joel Fry and Ellora Torchia, who I genuinely found myself sympathising for, and some beautiful cinematography (when the camera isn't spinning at 100 mph). But maybe I wanted a slightly different story to what it actually was - however I won't let this stop myself from enjoying the story it turned out to be.
