Excalibur Hotel & Casino - Las Vegas, NV (1990)
Designed by Valdon Simpson
“Excalibur is a medieval style castle with a number of red, blue, and gold steeples and two white towering hotels on both sides. When Excalibur is illuminated at night, it invites guests to a world of fairy tales. When the 28-story hotel with 4,032 rooms opened in 1990, it was claimed honors as the world’s largest hotel, but in 1993 the MGM Grand took its place.
The theme of Excalibur is King Arthur and his legend. As a family resort hotel, Excalibur is the place for adults and children of all ages. The 9,000 square-meter casino is located on the first floor. The second level amusement floor offers various types of games, simulation rides, juggler’s performances, etc. The place is very popular among children. This floor also includes cafes, restaurants, and stores.
On the lower level, a 900-seat arena offers a horse-riding tournament dinner show called King Arthur’s Tournament at 6:00 pm and 8:30pm. Across the street, at the center of a moat, which links New York-New York and the Tropicana, the magician Marlin and a dragon (who spouts a 15-meter long flame) perform every night from 6:30pm to 1:00am every 60 min Each time Marlin knocks the dragon down, a storm of applause roars from the spectators.”
