i do think travis and misty could be an interesting dynamic to explore considering the parallels between their relationship with nat! travnat and mistynat are sort of mirrors of each other: in some ways they’re eerily similar, but their reflection is always reversed.
when travis dies, nat ultimately blames herself. she believed travis would never kill himself because he promised. he promised her he wouldn’t. but then he does and natalie does the only thing she can to keep going: she finds purpose in solving travis’s murder—still in denial that he’d willingly break the promise that quite literally kept nat alive for so long.
when nat finally accepts that it was a suicide, she says “i killed my best friend,” and whether travis’s death was or wasn’t her fault, nat genuinely believes it was.
when natalie dies, misty copes in exactly the same way. she lives for nat even after nat is gone just to feel closer to her. she investigates lottie’s murder as it’s “what nat would’ve wanted.”
she wears nat’s jacket and holds onto every piece of her left in the world…but at the very end of season 3, misty stops wearing nat’s jacket. her lifelong enthusiasm seems to fade altogether and it’s heavily implied that misty gets rid of her bird: something that meant everything to her. so just like natalie in season 2, misty finally accepts the person she is: the person that killed her best friend and hurt everyone she’s ever loved.
in some ways, i think travis was to natalie what natalie was to misty. the three of them are tied together so closely whether they realize it or not.
so i’d love to see more of travis and misty interacting whether it’s in canon for fanfic!! i don’t personally ship travisty romantically (although maybeeee i could be persuaded to), but i absolutely want to see their relationship explored! that’s so much overlooked potential between those two.
