Into the Sidseverse: Limbo (2020)
here it is! the short-awaited FIFTH entry for into the sidseverse! that's right, i've regained the wind in my sidse sails and i'm prepared to watch all the movies i can while i can. this movie is limbo, a scottish comedy-drama film about the experiences of four young men, refugees awaiting their requests for asylum to be processed on a remote scottish island. the main character, omar, is played by amir el-masry. our own beloved sidse babett knudsen plays helga, one of the teachers of the "cultural awareness classes" attended by the island's refugees. although her role is minor, the film's beauty more than made up for it. here's my review:
Limbo (2020)
Review: [⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️]
"Lie to me and tell me you'll be back."
holy crap. just as i was getting tired of the amount of truly mid films sidse babett knudsen is in, here comes limbo to possibly become one of my favorites ever. limbo is a beautiful movie that blends drama and comedy gorgeously. every shot has meaning, perfectly justifying the film's slow pace.
if you watch this, i encourage you to give it your full attention. that's really what it deserves. this was heartbreaking and beautiful, and highlights the dysfunctional systems that some of those most in need are forced to interact with.
it shows how hardship can both push people apart and build solidarity. it shows how an entire family can lose its innocence through events far outside of its control. it's a film that inspires me personally to seek out more stories that lift up the voices of refugees. it's just fantastic.
i worried i wouldn't feel connected to these characters, that the movie would fail to make the audience empathize with their struggles and their victories, but instead it made me feel more than most movies ever can. i kind of feel bad for placing sidse babett knudsen's character as the top photo here out of respect for omar, the protagonist. he deserves to be heard!
i'm really glad i watched this! yapfest over!
Into the Sidseverse: A Hologram for the King (2016)
here it is! the long-awaited fourth entry for into the sidseverse! this movie is titled a hologram for the king, and it is the 2016 adaptation of the 2012 novel of the same name by david eggers. it stars tom hanks along with the illustrious sidse babett knudsen, and is apparently the lowest-grossing film he has starred in since 1986. despite this, i found the characters and overall vibe of this movie enjoyable.
sidse babett knudsen plays hanne, a danish business executive that the main character (tom hanks) meets in saudi arabia. unfortunately, she only shows up in three or four scenes and her character has basically zero depth, making this a film with way too little sidse. read my review.
A Hologram for the King (2016)
Review: [⭐️⭐️⭐️½]
it's no wonder that this movie is one of the lowest-grossing films starring tom hanks, it's really nothing flashy or revolutionary, and it never feels like it has a real point to it. nonetheless, i did enjoy watching it, and i liked a lot of the characters. many parts of the movie had me asking "what on earth am i watching?" and that honestly wasn't a bad thing. also it has sidse babett knudsen at the danish embassy rave. epic. not bad.
sometimes when i close my eyes i see sidse babett knudsen's scrunchy-nose smile.... (new sbk movie review coming soon)
whenever i see a picture of her i explode
Into the Sidseverse: After the Wedding (2006)
for my third entry in into the sidseverse i watched after the wedding (originally titled efter brylluppet in danish) with one of my besties. sidse babett knudsen plays helene hansson, the wife of a big business ceo and the ex of a struggling humanitarian seeking funding for his work supporting children in poverty in india. throughout the film we come to discover the secrets these three share, and i'm running out of ways to summarize this. let's get to the review.
After the Wedding (2006)
Review: [⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 ]
as much as i wanted to love this movie, it just didn't reach four stars for me. even though a lot of scenes felt too drawn out and uncomfortable, at its core this was a really heartfelt story with believably flawed and tragic characters that i did enjoy. also, of course, it had both sidse babett knudsen (😍😍😍) and mads mikkelsen (🤤🤤🤤), which was like a dream come true. i liked this movie, but i don't think i plan to rewatch it.
but once again, check out that eye candy! sidse babett knudsen AND mads mikkelsen in one film? i wish they would have costarred more than this one film (to my knowledge). anyways, there's my little review, thanks for reading. what's the next movie i'll watch for into the sidseverse? idk, we'll see. bye.
Into the Sidseverse: Prime Target (2025)
my second entry for into the sidseverse is prime target, a thriller miniseries that released in january 2025. sidse babett knudsen plays andrea lavin, an archaeology professor who serves as an ally to the main character throughout the series. since i'm tired from bingeing the entire series, i'm going to go right to the review!
Prime Target (2025)
Review: [⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 ]
i give this series three and a half stars out of five. although criticisms that prime target lacks good pacing, depth, and believability have merit, it was still an entertaining watch with a strong cast of characters. prime target makes for good television, and doesn't try to make itself more thought-provoking or memorable than it is, because it really is neither. this series is proof that a fun concept and adequate execution is all i need to be entertained. the finale was honestly interesting enough that i would be happy to see a second season (so long as it has sidse babett knudsen!)
episode 7 hurt me so bad. now for the last one!
not the random academy award winning scene in episode 6??? that was so good wtffff. i've started to actually be interested in this story beyond sidse babett knudsen.
on another note, i hope i'm not filling up this blog with too much prime target content... then again, it's a whole miniseries versus the individual films that sidse is in, so i guess it's worth more than a few posts.
that scene hurt ):
poor andrea, ily pookie (episode 5)
