hey it’s ya girl here to interrupt your discourse with some Allura meta because I love her and will never stop talking about her!
ok, first, let me say that I agree that Allura would have been in the right to mistrust Keith for being Galra, especially given how shady he was acting for the whole of season 2; including trying to get Allura to trust the BoM.
But–I don’t think that’s what happened. Allura’s reaction to Keith being Galra is different from how she treats the BoM. Allura, at no point, is quiet about her feelings about the BoM. She, rightfully, points out at every turn how they could be tricking team voltron (and just because they weren’t doesn’t mean that couldn’t have been the case, or even that it wasn’t Likely the case) but she doesn’t say Anything to Keith.
And then, when apologizing, Allura says this;
Allura thinks of Keith as family, she trusts him completely. She was simply,,,angry with him. And this shows in her reactions, the way she completely ignores him? pretends not to hear him when he speaks? I’ve been a teenager and that’s how they react when they’re angry.
And although the show frames it that way, I don’t think Allura is angry because Keith is Galra, I think she feels betrayed. Because she trusted him in a way he didn’t trust hey. In Arc of Taujeer, Allura shares some of her insecurities with Keith; not something she does often. Not only does Keith rebuff her with his “not all Galra” spiel but he also doesn’t open up about his suspicions that he may be Galra. In short, he didn’t trust Allura with that information.
Now, this doesn’t make Keith a bad person, I think he has reason to feel afraid to share his feelings. It’s a scary thing to do, and Allura had been very vocal about how she felt about the Galra. However, I also see Allura’s perspective and how it must of felt to have this person–perhaps the first person since waking up–that she does trust absolutely, and feel that she found a new family. Only to find that he does not trust her in the same way.
Not only that, but it also reframes every time Keith argued for the BoM. Allura, upon finding out that Keith is part Galra, learns what we as the audience had known for a long time; that “not all Galra” was him focusing on his own pain and how he fit into things and not because he genuinely believed that there was no chance the BoM could betray them. In short, not only was he not open with Allura but he also prioritized how he felt over her feelings, and even the safety of the team.
Allura has plenty of reasons to be angry with Keith beyond her perfectly understandable caution around Galra. Which is why i’m forever bitter that Dreamworks had her be the only one who apologized.
