The cafe had just closed, and you sat down in the back room. You were working on a protection ward for the café, hands working idly with the herbs. It didn’t even register that someone had walked in. That someone being Wooyoung.
“Uh, Y/n?” His words came out a bit shaky. Earlier, when you gave him the rundown of the café, you showed him this room, where you do all your witchcraft and services. Given his recent experience, he was a bit… wary of it.
At the sound of your name, you look up to meet the gaze of a fidgety Wooyoung standing in the doorway. “Everything okay?” You ask, hands still working while giving him your attention.
“Just wanted to ask if there was any way we could do that protection thing you mentioned? Just the thought of Taly being able to do that to me again has me uneasy.” Wooyoung admits, and he was being honest.
Since last night, it was all he could think about. What if she somehow found a way to do it again? Could she make it permanent? What else could she do? Oh my god, could she curse me? His brain just wouldn’t shut off.
“I was just working on some protection wards. I could do a protection spell over you if you want?” You said, giving him a soft smile. You could sense something was off with him since this morning, but since you don’t know each other well, you decided not to ask.
He nodded as soon as you finished your sentence. “Please, I’m just scared she’s going to try something worse.”
“Come sit,” you said as you mentioned the plush velvet chair by your desk. Wooyoung hesitated for a moment, and you definitely noticed it. “I’m not Taly. I have morals with my craft. You don’t need to be afraid of me,” it came out softer than you intended, almost as if reassuring a child who got separated from their mother.
Wooyoung wasn’t sure if it was your words that relaxed him or the tone you spoke in. So soft and reassuring, he found his feeling moving towards the chair before he could think twice. Settling, he took the chance to look around the room. It was so cozy. A plethora of books on a shelf against the wall, candles and sigils everywhere. Some oddities scattered around the shelves, the dead mice in a jar catching his eye. On the left side of the room, you have a small shelf growing plants he’s never seen before. There was so much that he’d never seen before, and it was beautiful.
A comfortable silence fell between you two, as you gathered what you needed to do the protection spell. Mixing herbs and spices together before scattering them in a shallow bowl, you placed a black candle that had sigils carved into it in the middle.
“What I’m about to ask you will sound weird, but there’s a way to make sure the spell is as strong as possible. I just need a drop of your blood.”
This takes Wooyoung back a bit. His blood? Like actual blood? While the thought absolutely terrified him, the thought of Taly being able to do something to him again was worse.
“Yea okay”
You nod as he takes his hand, grabbing a sharp, clean needle to poke his finger, letting the blood drip down onto the herbs and unlit candle. Taking a cloth, you cleaned it, then put a Band-Aid over it.
Finally, you light the candle, letting the wax melt down a bit before you started to chant the protection spell as you added sprinkles of angel dust to seal it. You let the candle burn for a couple of minutes before it flickered out on its own.
“What the—”Wooyoung had begun, but the sudden feeling of warmth wrapping around his body made him stop. It was seeping into his bones, making that uneasy feeling go away. That feeling was replaced with a sense of safety and security.
A giggle escaped your lips at the sight of his shocked face. “Well, repeat this in 6 months to make sure it holds and doesn’t get broken.”
“Am I supposed to be able to feel it settle in like that?” he asked.
“For protection spells, yes. It means the spell worked and was sealed. You can sleep peacefully tonight, don’t worry.”
His heart skipped a beat at the light tease at the end. Why on earth did you have this effect on him? Before he could stop himself, Wooyoung spoke.
“Would you maybe want to hang out? Just us two? Not anything weird. Just to get to know each other?” His voice came out more unsteady than he wanted. God, why the hell would he ask that???
The question caught you off guard. He wanted to hang out just the two of you? Normally you’d say no, but he looked so cute when he’s nervous.
“Yea, you better plan something fun. How about tomorrow? We’re both off” You say, noting the way his eyes widen before he clears his throat and responds.
“Yea yea totally tomorrow sound good. I’ll um pick you up at 12?”
“Sounds good to me”
Oh Wooyoung was so fucked.

Wooyoung didn’t know why he felt so off? He knew he was supposed to be happy, but something just didn’t feel right. Any time he’d tried to tell Taly no to something, his body wouldn’t let him. No matter how much he missed his friends, or how lonely he felt. He could never tell her no, and something in the back of his mind was telling him this wasn’t him.
He noticed he’d become a lot meaner to everyone without trying. Deep down, he still felt guilty for the way he treated you. It was the first time you were meeting, and he was an asshole, not that he was trying to be. The words just came out like word vomit.
Pushing his feelings to the side, he headed off to work. A quick 15 minute walk and he found himself standing outside of Haven. For a moment he just stood there, debating if he really wanted to go in.
“Are you going to stand there all day or are you going to go clock in?” He heard Yunho say from behind him. A bit shocked, he even spoke to him since he had been ignoring them.
Clearing his throat, Wooyoung mumbled a quick ‘um yeah’ before rushing into the café. Heading straight to his locker and putting his apron on before going to the front to clock in.
“Youngie! You’re finally here! I just got shipment in, do you think you can go help Jongho put it away?” Taly beamed at him as she gave him a quick hug and kiss.
“Yea sure” He said as a panicked Yunho comes from around the corner with some questions for Taly.
Wooyoung walked in to the walk in to see Jongho sorting milks onto the shelves. So naturally he started to arrange the fresh fruits, trying to finish as fast as possible.
“We miss you. It’s weird not having you around” Jongho said as he paused what he was doing to turn and look at Wooyoung.
Freezing in his spot, Wooyoung felt that pain in his chest again. He felt oh so guilty. It has been weeks since he last hung out with his fiends, he was constantly blowing them off for Taly.
“I miss you guys too,” he mumbled as he went back to arranging the fruits, trying not to think too much about it. If he did, he’d was going to take back what he said unwillingly.
“I know you just clocked in, but wanna take my break with me? Seems like Yunho is talking Taly’s ear off.” Jongho said, a bit hesitant. He wasn’t sure Wooyoung would agree, but he was going to try.
“Sure, as long as we don’t take too long, Taly will freak if I leave her sight for 5 seconds.” Wooyoung sighs as the two of them get up quickly and sneak out the back door.
“I need to pop into Witches Brew for a sec. Hongjoong brought me a breakfast sandwich from Noah’s,” Jongho said as he fixed his coat and started walking across the street.
Woo followed without question, fighting the urge to say no deep down. He was a bit nervous to show his face after what happened. Chances are you’d probably kick him out. Maybe he should just wait outside while Jongho goes inside instead. Yeah, that definitely sounds like a better idea.
Not even 3 minutes later they’re standing outside the cafe, nerves consume Wooyoung’s body and he freezes as Jongho goes to open the door.
“Maybe I should wait outside” He said, avoiding any eye contact with Jongho.
“Don’t be stupid come inside” Jongho said as he pulled Wooyoung inside the cafe with him.
It was warm inside, the smell of cinnamon and eucalyptus invade Wooyoung’s senses. For it being a coffee shop, it didn’t smell purely of coffee and he liked that. He looked around, small groups of friends gossiping and laughing, a couple tucked in a booth blushing like tomatoes, you behind the counter helping an older woman.
“Come on don’t just stand in the door way”
Snapping out of his thoughts Wooyoung followed Jongho to the far end of the counter where Hongjoong was sitting with he thinks the guys name is Yeosang? All he can remember is he was there that first day.
Hongjoong handed Jongho the breakfast sandwich that he had bought for him, before looking at Wooyoung with a soft smile. He was happy to see his friend after weeks.
“Hey Woo, u been good?” Hongjoong asked as he took a sip of his coffee.
“Yea. Just peachy” The words came out before he could even think of a response.
Wooyoung looked around the shop. He felt out of place and like he shouldn’t be there.
Yeosang gave both Jongho and Hongjoong a look before getting up from the table and approaching you. He informed you that Wooyoung had arrived. It was time.
“Sit, i’m gonna eat my sandwich here” Jongho said as he sat across from Hongjoong.
Wooyoung was hesitant, but he took a seat next to Jongho. The three started to chat for a bit before u walked over to the table.
“Can I get u anything?”You asked sweetly at both Wooyoung and Jongo.
“Oh um. An americano?”His voice was quiet.
“Jongho?”
“I’m good with a water Y/nnie” Jongo said as he kept on eating his breakfast sandwich.
You simply nodded and went to make the coffee. A simple americano, but u slipped the brew in the coffee. So the minute that Wooyoung drank a sip, the love spell would be broken.
After a couple of minutes u walk back to the table with the drinks, placing the cup in front of Wooyoung and giving Jongo his water.
God. The coffee smelled delicious, Wooyoung thought to himself as he took a sip.
Then he felt something inside him snap, and suddenly he felt that unease melt away.

Hi guys… don’t kill me for being MIA… again. I recently left my old job and started a new job in january so i’ve been very overwhelmed and busy as of late. I’ve been writing a little bit, every now and then trying to write in small pieces til i’m done but lately it’s been hard to find any motivation since my new job has me learning so much shit.
