okay this is insane to me cuz like. look at nikki's face. you can just tell that she thinks bear doesn't get it. he sees love as having to include romance, just like lots of men aren't "friends" with girls but rather only get close with them to get with them (whether that be just fuck them or actually date them but yk). but nikki loved bear. he was her friend and she loved him but he wasn't satisfied because it wasn't romantic. and sure, okay, you can have feelings for someone who doesn't like you back but the fact is that many women have had to feel like their male friends are only around them because they want something. and nikki definitely noticed because she fucking asked bear if he liked her!!! and was relieved when he said no!! because feeling like your love isn't enough just because it's not romantic is horrible
