Leaving in their Wake a trail of empty Natty Ice cans, hair product slime, and Five Hour Energy bottles, the bro has begun to branch into different species and genres, appropriating other pop culture and local phenomena into their rituals and behavior. In The Wake of fraternal turmoil on a national level, this research team aims to break down the “Bro” species, redefining the general understanding of Bro based on his physical aspects, fundamental belief systems, and natural habitats. After years of careful observation, Scientists at the University of Minnesota have created a new definitive taxonomy of Bros and their habits. ..."

SMAG (Student Magazines) is a meeting place of collegiate magazines produced solely by and for students.

My name is Malia Griggs, and I am the former editor-in-chief of Garnet & Black, the general interest student magazine for the University of South Carolina. In my time on masthead, I struggled to find college magazines similar to our own. I wanted to know: What other student magazines are out there, and what kind? How are they using new tools of social media and blogging to bring awareness to their work, and how successful are they? What contests exist for magazines such as ours? I worked with Elizabeth Howell, the former art director at Garnet & Black, and several other talented individuals to create a network for student magazines that showcases the voices and creative work produced by students—not professors or a university's public relations team or an alumni association. I wanted editors, writers, designers, photographers, videographers and bloggers to have a forum to post their content, exciting news and to discuss hot topics in student media. Ideally, we can help each other promote and create more student magazines. I know, I know—we're told magazines are dying, right? But not if we don't let them. And not if they move to new arenas. Let's do this.
