You can't sit on the fence when the fence is built on someone's neck. Every time you're told to "calm down" or "stay civil," ask who that civility is protecting. Spoiler: It's never the marginalized. Human rights aren't a debate. Your discomfort at someone calling out injustice is not more important than the injustice itself. Whether it's racism, ableism, queerphobia, classism, or colonialism, if you're not actively unlearning and challenging systems of power, you're upholding them.

Silence is political. Inaction is a choice. And yes, "not picking sides" is picking the side of the status quo. So be loud. Be angry. Be inconvenient. Because the world wasn’t changed by polite apathy. It was changed by people who refused to shut up.

The way some people act towards immigrants truly shows how lost from their roots people can be. In the context of American people will proudly say they are Irish-American while abusing Mexican in their country. How can you proudly say you are from a nation of immigrants while disrespecting immigrants. Your ancestors would be ashamed, one country is not superior, remember that. Personally, I would rather share my country with those who cross land and sea to be here rather than those who wouldn't cross the road to help their neibhours.
