me on a full weekend with family
Been helping 1 of my old students get ready for the start of school (uniform, supplies, etc) &I told him I’d buy him some new shoes (on top of the school uniform shoes). 1st of all having kids is gonna be expensive as hell, I dropped $200 just on a pair of shoes&some joggers for him. We walked out&he looked at me&said “I never in my life have done that before” like just go in&pick out what he wanted, not thinking bout $$. Man that was a beautiful feeling, my pockets hurting but my heart is happy
That shit is real.
When I was a kid, I was acutely aware of how poor we were and I didn’t want to burden anyone by asking for something we couldn’t afford. So when it came time for me to ask for anything, whether it was school clothes or a Christmas list, I only picked things that I thought wouldn’t inconvenience my mother too much.
Kids shouldn’t have to think about stuff like that. It’s a little piece of being a kid that’s stripped away from you.
You’re amazing for doing that
I grew up in foster care and was very aware of the money received for my care. I also knew none of that money went to me because often times I went hungry and without other things i needed. This is why I started doing little things to earn money like mowing lawns and washing cars. I got my 1st job at 14.
This ask really got me in my feelings.
