Elias' fashion is actually surprisingly stylish! He seems to just prioritize fitting in, reflecting the same kind of styles as other boys his age but remember! he's also a ladies' man! He likes to look good!
I really wanted to note Elias' habit of keeping his layers on. I think in the modern world, he'd definitely always have some sort of jacket or layers going on.
I'm also intrigued by the ways his sensitive nature is reflected in his design. I think we'd see him in a lot of warm colors, oversized clothes, and a mix of styles between "rough and tough" and "i write poetry sometimes"

Rachel has a super fun and sweet style! She's still young, so most of her clothes lean towards ultra cute and ultra frilly. Lots of lightweight fabrics and fun accessories!
If she were a teen in the modern world, I'd like to see her in tons of activity-friendly, practical, but trendy clothes! Even though girls back then only wore dresses, I feel like Rachel would wear a lot of pants too.
Mostly, I wanted to make sure that her style wouldn't feel overly "grown up." She'd wear things that are super trendy, but definitely age appropriate (flat shoes instead of heels, no low cut tops, etc etc)
Leon von Neuschwanstein
Although Rachel and Leon are twins, their styles could not be more polar opposites! Leon is the model example of a studious and smartly dressed boy.
Side by side, his outfits still compliment Rachel's (in color) but the key point of Leon's clothes are typically how clean cut they are.
We'd see lots of crisp shirts, ties, and other academic aesthetics BUT they would totally be tailored and well-fitted. His glasses are a utilitarian feature, not an accessory!
Ali Pasha
Ali is an interesting case because he wears a lot of traditional royal garb. As simple as it'd be to throw him into a modern equivalent, i'd like to imagine what he'd wear if he were a modern exchange student
Instead, I want to focus on visual motifs from his original outfits. Bold embroidered or patterned fabrics and SO MUCH JEWELRY. Of course the green too.
I also think that he would come across kind of casual as well? Rachel didn't know he was a prince upon first glance, and I think Ali would reflect that vibe in the modern world too
Cardinal Richelieu
Not too unlike Ali, it'd be very easy to just put Richelieu in modern day priest's robes because they haven't really changed over the last few hundred years, but I wanted to play with some fun ideas instead
I think he'd obviously be wearing lots of long black trench coats. The ominous all-black vibe is definitely a must for his character. Simply mysterious and not overly embellished.
Richelieu is a tall and extremely well built man. And I think his build is what makes him most intimidating. I think his outfits would be sleek and simple, letting his own aura do all the talking for him.

In a modern world, I think we would see a lot of similar elements from Shuri's romantic style! Things like softer, lightweight fabrics and lots and lots of ruffles!
She definitely has a spring color palette, so I think she would wear bright and natural tones- lots of greens, pinks, and yellow! Feminine, ethereal, and whimsical!
Don't forget the chokers too! I think she'd collect a lot of fun jewelry and whimsical pieces like ribbons.
Nora von Nuremberg
Nora is an interesting case because he wears a pretty wide range of clothes from super simple and practical to literal prince. I think this would also apply to his modern self!
Out with friends, I think he's the type to throw on a worn out tee and some jeans. Not thinking too hard, you feel me?
But when he's trying to impress... that's when he puts a little more thought into it. A crisp clean top, slacks, but nothing that's too outrageous.
Jeremy von Neuschwanstein
Given his personality, Jeremy would be pretty similar to Nora in that he usually doesn't think too much about fashion, but I do think his closet would be VERY influenced by Shuri's sense of style (she probably does a lot of shopping for him)
You would totally see a lot of old money styles, like Ralph Lauren. Tons of fine details. Like an embroidered collar, a pop of an accent color, some subtle jewelry.
With his sense of growing responsibility, I think Jeremy would stay away from overly "grunge" fashion. So tees might not be common for him.
Ohara von Heinrich
Ohara would absolutely be a faux old money girl, pressured by her father to always look sophisticated and worth their status
However! I also think she really suits that "cool girl" aesthetic. Especially on outings with Elias, I think she'd be able to let loose a bit.
With the Neuschwansteins, I think Ohara would be able to finally dress a little closer to her age (but not completely!), letting her hair down and such!
Theo von Bismark
OK so Theo! Our canonical fashionista. He's typically only seen in his royal garb, but I think with that amount of money, he'd be sporting a lot of designer clothing in the modern world.
And I feel like he'd wear a lot of bright and uncommon combinations. Like white-on-white because he loves to attract attention.
I'm also intrigued by the little ways his "feminine" or non-conforming style would translate into modern days. I think we'd see items like a clutch, ribbons, and silk accessories.

A lot of people characterize Natsu as a dog (like dog person vs cat person as far as personality) however i am going to make the argument that he is, in fact, a cat. ((No, I am not saying you're wrong if u disagree. This is just my opinion))
My evidence for my claim is the three cats that I currently own, and previously owned cats.
Cats have THEIR person. Sometimes they'll go off and do their own thing but most of the time they just hang around their person. Sleeping in the same room if not ON them. Being bad just to get their attention.
And you already know where im going with this but Lucy is Natsu's person. He hangs around her almost constantly, eats her food (which can be cat or dog), he shows a different side of himself to her/since she's come into his life: happier, softer.
Like we see Natsu when Lucy's not around (see: the blossom viewing festival where Natsu just sits there and pouts the whole time). We saw snippets of Natsu before Lucy's influence and after Lisanna's 'death'— after the guild brawl he goes RIGHT back to the job request board. No hanging around, no visiting, no relaxing like we see him do AFTER Lucy enters his life. It's just: time for a mission. He kinda gives a 'i keep myself busy so i dont have time or energy to think' imo)
*Natsu's still friendly with his guildmates, but cats will also be friendly to people their familiar with— they're just more friendly, affectionate, and playful around their person (kinda like Natsu with Lucy).
now, am I aware that everything I've said so far can also be true for dogs? Yes. at no point in my life have I been without at least one dog in my home.
The biggest difference (that i have witnessed between cats and dogs) when it comes to their favorite person: dogs can [usually] be cheered up when their favorite person leaves. never once has someone been successful at cheering up my mom's cat if she leaves. he complains if she leaves the room when he's too lazy to follow- will literally howl until either she comes back or he caves and gets his ass up to follow. if she leaves the house? miserable. he sulks around, doesn't care about treats, toys, nothing. ((he's a bit more dramatic that Natsu. but you get the idea)
The ep where Lucy cleans Natsu's home, waits for him, just to find him and Happy passed out in her home waiting for HER to come back. Cat behavior.
and becuse i think it deserves an honorable mention: Natsu leaving Lucy for a year. Cat behavior. you could give that cat everything they ever wanted: unlimited food, toys, treats, clean water, comfortable place to sleep— and they will STILL dart outside the FIRST chance they get. (One of my cats just wants to roll in the grass and play chase; sometimes she'll slip out unnoticed, usually middle of the night, and we'll just hear her howl at the door bc she's ready to come back. The other runs like she means it. she wants to be in the yard and come back on her own time.)
Natsu left with every intention of coming back. just like a cat.
Additional reason: Happy's a cat. It just feels wrong to characterize natsu as a dog.

I’ll repost some details here:
I ordered a copy of this book, “Bookbinding & Conservation by Hand: A Working Guide” by Laura Young. The book has a lot of information but it’s a little confusingly written. It’s overkill for a first time try but I guess it worked out fine.
There is another book they sell that might be the optimal fit: “ Hand Bookbinding: A Manual Of Instruction,” By A. Watson sounds like it has way more illustrations. If you pick it up I’d love to hear what you think of it.
In conjunction with the book, I viewed this great series of videos on youtube a couple of times. It really helped me understand the “order of operations” of some of this, and exhibits a good technique for using wax paper and trash paper to keep from smearing glue all over your book. https://www.youtube.com/user/randallhoyt/videos There are a number of other videos on youtube displaying various methods. Take an evening to watch them - there’s no substitute for seeing it in action.
Because I picked up traditional case binding methods, I’ve been almost entirely focused on long epic works. But there are a ton of short fics out there (under 20k) that are perfectly worthy of binding and you can do that!
Option No. 1: Single signature booklet - “Zine” style
For very short works, you can create a single sewn signature (I’d cap it at 32 or 36 pages max)

Option No 2: German Stiffened Paper Binding
A slightly more involved method that employs bookcloth, and can accommodate more than one signature. This is great because a lot of fics end up being somewhere between 25-72 pages, and this is really awkward length for either the single-signature booklet or for a hard spine case bound book.

e.g. they're told that this kind of creature has some kind of psychic or pheromone-based "mate bond" that cannot be broken; but it turns out that's a popular myth that has never been scientifically substantiated, and is basically used to keep people in bad relationships (basically the equivalent of "human women are biologically submissive")
"lore" is imo too often treated like information that the author is giving the reader, and it just happens to be using the medium of diagetic (that is, 'in-story') exposition.
it's so much more interesting and dynamic to treat "lore" as information that is generated and disseminated in-story. who is telling the protagonist this information? under what historical and social circumstances was this idea formed? what political motives are there for trying to get people to believe this information? which characters would disagree with it? would the protagonist believe it, or be sceptical? does the plot bear it out, or cast doubt on it?
OP you want basically anything by Brandon Sanderson.
Simple example: Elantris. Ten years ago the magic broke and it caused a huge earthquake. Wait, no, the earthquake broke the magic bc [redacted] and now we can use it again but the elves are still broken. OHH THE CITY IS — ok fix the CITY to fix the elves
More complex example: Mistborn. There are eight magic metals. Well, actually there are ten but two of them are weird. Oh, but we found the secret Eleventh Metal which is kind of a superweapon (useless). Wait what am I being forcefed. Okay twelve metals? Oh, look, a secret vault with an even secreter, weirder metal. Okay, now we’re discovering new metals all over the place, both through experimentation and secret messages from the dead evil emperor (tho we experimented one of those already so that message was useless) and it looks like it’s going to shake out to sixteen metals, although we still don’t know what two of them are. Actually there’s a lot of sixteens around, like a weird number of sixteens. Oh one of the weird ones was EVEN WEIRDER than we thought.
Okay. There’s sixteen normal metals and two weird ones. Well, three weird ones, but the third’s a derivative of one of the other two. Oh, but if there’s one derivative, there should be more, right? Right. There’s 50 metals (although 16 of them are kind of boring) …wait what’s that spike made of
Ultimately I think it shakes out to 16 x 17 = 272 metals. Theoretically. Most of those have never actually been made (we think) and 34 of them don’t really exist anymore for god reasons (but for the same god reasons 17 more would…). Right now I think there’s 19 actually around. Well, 20. Well, 21 if you count what’s going on in the Stormlight Archive…
