I did actually consult with a family friend (she’s mixed race Japanese and Chinese) about the upper portion.

Pro tip: when ur doing darker skinned Asians and middle Easterns it’s advisable not to give them the same features as a black person :)

Saying that these are the limits of what’s normal in asian skintones is reinforcing colorism, as there are a lot more people, and a lot more diversity than just the people one knows from family and friendship ties. My friend Nemmy, whose blasian, is right in being upset with this as saying or implying this is innappropriate, colorist, and lowkey anti-black is correct. Black asian mixed people also exist as another reason darker skintones are possible, and to imply black asian people aren’t asian for being mixed is anti-black and alienates people that are supposed to be a part of the community.
