i fucking love art. all art, and i mean it. it's the only thing that keeps my faith in mankind alive, the fact that they can make anything into a vessel for their thoughts, emotions, for some meaning with nothing but their own two bare hands and some materials!
the current state of the art as like, a thing, is pretty sad, i can't even argue. even if we toss the whole ai part aside (it will never replace or even be able to compete with people like you and me by the way!), consumerism, toxicity and moral panic are still the bane of contemporary creators.
i've been drawing for over a decade, i'm an amateur by the broader standard that i hate so much, and still indecisive with my style. let's be real, by the standards of an average consumer that sees art as a product to gobble up and be on their way, i fucking suck at this art thing. to them, i'm on the less palatable side of it for what i draw and what i like. but who the hell are they to dictate what i should do with my own creativity?
if you're just starting, you're doing great. no matter how old you are, i assure you, it's okay if something doesn't look right from the get-go. rome wasn't built in a day, okay? and you're doing something that's completely new for you, the first few tries will be the hardest. you'll get the gist of it. it's a very long journey but it's worth it, i promise you, just keep going. don't listen to those who tell you otherwise, persevere in spite of how hostile the world appears to be
if you're considering giving up - why? don't let the grim looking cloud that is our future deter you from creating. you've been doing it up until this point, and it doesn't matter if it was twenty days or twenty years for you, just please. don't lower your hands. keep making art, at your own pace, your own convenience, but never let anyone or anything convince you to stop entirely
and to everyone else and the above included: push the boundaries, art has always been about it. fight back, artists always did that. and don't give up.
this, by the way, applies to any art - prose, poetry, music, sculpting, sewing, knitting, and these are just off the top of my head. i'm first and foremost a digital doodle shitposter, that's why i wrote all of the above with drawing in mind. but genuinely, the sentiment applies to everything
Periodic rent-lowering-gunshots:
Fiction is not reality.
You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.
No one else is responsible for your online experience. They are required not to harass you, but they are not and never will be obligated to not post about ships, kinks, or tropes you dislike just to avoid you seeing them. It's up to you to blacklist words or phrases, block tags, or even block users as needed to avoid seeing content that upsets you.
No one can force you to read anything against your consent. Any content you don't like seeing can be instantly avoided by closing out of the offending post/fic.
You are not owed an online experience free of discomfort.
Nothing that happens in your imagination can ever make you a bad person. Words you write or read about fictional characters will never make you a bad person.
The claim that media consumption influences real-life behavior is intellectually dishonest and serves only to excuse the behavior of real offenders.
Fiction is a safe way to explore horrifying or confusing concepts. Therapists agree that fiction, even (or especially) about taboo topics is a good coping mechanism, especially, but not exclusively, for trauma survivors. Fiction is to adults what play therapy is to children. This doesn't stop being true if the work in question is of a sexual nature.
Sex isn't an inherently worse or better motivation than anything else. A work written to create feelings of arousal isn't dirty, shameful, or in any way less pure than works written to entertain, provoke moral questions, or for other reasons. And worth noting is that multiple purposes can exist in the same story, especially fanfiction.
You aren't entitled to an explanation for why someone reads, writes, or otherwise enjoys certain works, kinks, tropes, ships, etc.
