akali reached into her pocket to take out a single piece of gum, popping it into her mouth to chew on in preparation for how boring the next hour was likely to be. it isn’t that she didn’t want to spend time with fiora, it’s just that she wasn’t good with the whole ‘feelings’ thing. she let her gaze drift upwards to focus on the faint flicker of fire alarm’s indicator as fiora continued to speak.
her response to most of it was a gentle ‘mhm’, accompanied by a nod. although she had nothing of value to say, she wanted to make sure the other woman understood that akali was still listening to what she had to say, until it was her turn to speak. she was no wise philosopher, but maybe a page from her own book of morals and guidelines could help the situation.
“ then do it. or don’t. no point overcompensating for a loss, just make sure there’s nothing to make up for in the future. “
her tongue swam around her mouth, flicking the gum back and forth between the pit and roof of her mouth, rolling it across the back of her teeth and between before pressing it back into a compact ball. there wasn’t really anything left to add, she just wanted to get through all this promptly.
as much as fiora wasn’t in a position to make requests, akali quite liked the idea of finding somewhere a little less busy. she wasn’t one for the spotlight anyway. straying off somewhere behind the venue would have done them both a favour.
akali bunched her hair together and tied it up once again, this time in a messy bun, choosing to thread the adjustable strap through a belt loop on her hip rather than wear it. she stood up with a sigh and made a small gesture for fiora to follow her as she left the venue.
the rapper led fiora back to a small trailer. the blinds were all shut and the interior was lit only by the dim glow of a laptop screen and led lights that signalled which plugs were plugged into a live socket, of which there were many. once there, she headed to the furthest corner and sat down on the sofa bed that spanned the width of that side.
“ what is it? “ she asked, those being the first words to leave her mouth following their brief conversation back at the event.
she watched as fiora approached her again, carrying herself a lot less gracefully as she did when the two of them first met. she knew this wasn’t going to be a fun conversation from the beginning, but at least now she had the time to spare, and had already given herself time to cool off and prepare to try again.
the ‘hey’ was without fault, but for every word that followed, akali got more and more irritated. it wasn’t fiora’s fault that she was beginning to doubt herself and their relationship, but the rapper just didn’t care for the lengthy and emotional apology.
“ stop. it’s not that deep. if you want to see me, just come and see me, don’t treat me like i’m an object, and don’t treat me like i’m a celebrity. i miss how it was before. “ she replied, breaking her own record for most words spoken at any given time.
she was being open and honest, which she didn’t like, but nobody could argue that it was necessary. akali was human much like anyone else, and when they’d first met, that’s how it felt. there was no possessiveness, no expecting a response, just two girls and their awkward mannerisms. it felt comfortable. now it was overwhelming and she didn’t know how much longer she could take it.
“ you have my time now. don’t waste it. “

the corner of akali’s mouth turned upwards into the most subtle smirk imaginable. the star could play games all she wanted but there was no way akali was going to let her dance circles around her. it was either she got her answers, or she’d give up and forget about it all entirely. it wasn’t important to her, she just liked to be in the know. she wasn’t sure what went on behind closed doors, but that’s what she was here to find out.

the touch on her chest was enough to confirm that she wasn’t dreaming. her senses seemed to finally work as intended, and there was no mistaking them for an illusion, her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her any more.
following the comment kai’sa had made, akali sat herself up again, almost as quickly as the dancer had brought her back down to her level. she let her eyes fall back on the girl as she watched carefully. the way the sun highlighted her hair was beautiful, especially when it wasn’t being styled in any particular way. akali really had a thing for messy hair, and some people could pull it off without trying.
in response to the question, she gave a quick nod, not considering the fact that kai’sa was probably still too tired to register the subtle movement. the fear of a masculine voice kept her lips sealed for a brief moment, but the trust she had in kai’sa and the comfort that came with it eventually convinced her to speak.
“ yeah. “ she said, voice rougher than the gravel that connected the front door to the front gate. rougher than swallowing a handful of thorns between two slices of burnt toast, with even less flavour. ouch.
“ you look nice. “ she added, genuinely admiring how kai’sa looked in the earlier hours of the morning. being the one to wake up last, she never really had the chance to see it, but it was a whole different side of kai’sa that wasn’t glamorous, but still a pleasure to look at.
