In your opinion, the best way to face down a guy with a gun is with another gun.

Fortunately, you’ve got yours in your specibus already, and you know it’s the same one -- you don’t have to go over how many times you and your moirail have compared guns; these ones at least are the same size, even if he is a bigger fuck than you are. You’re evenly matched -- and you and your opponent will be evenly matched, too.

You catch a glance at yourself in the mirror. You don’t want to go in toting your gun, though god it would make you feel better-- but no. Safety first. Most importantly, Kit’s safety first. You swallow hard, and hope those idiot guards Knight spends his days training know the difference between you and the guy who’s nine feet tall.

You groan and cross quickly to the dresser, rifling around for a pen, a marker -- and, when you find one, swiftly twisting the fabric of your white tee so you can coherently write ‘NOT THE TRIGGER HAPPY ONE’ in big black letters.

If they try to take you down now, you’ll call a god damn legislacerator, you swear.

All that’s left after you’ve shaken yourself out and double-checked you’ve got everything is for you to punch in the coordinates, and zip off. You don’t bother to admire the cutlery or the smooth countertops as you materialize in; you make a beeline for the door, and turn first left then right. That’s when you see them, and every funny thought, every comforting quip, every safe, humourous coping mechanism you have gets stuck in your throat and you can’t breathe. A perfect image of your moirail, cheeks stained violet, is standing over the form of your scared, helpless matesprit, Ahab’s Crosshairs trained precisely on his forehead. Your knees almost buckle. But they don’t. They don’t; instead, you swing your arm as your own weapon drops into your hand, and you brace the stock against your shoulder.

“Okay pal,” you say, careful about your volume, careful about your breathing, careful about your aim-- careful. “Drop it. Nice, and easy.”
