Does Starr Corp see itself as some saviour? That they are doing more good than harm to their employees?
Let's talk about this.
(Yep, I'm back with some lore theory bullshit absolutely NO ONE asked for; this one has been sitting in my drafts for about a month lol)
Personally for me, I don’t believe Starr Corp sees themselves as an evil company, nor as a company devoured by greed that exploits and dehumanises its employees.
It is apparent it prides itself on fostering happiness for the children and adults who step into Starr Park, their magnum opus. Happiness, that; constant joy, this. Yes, yes, we heard that to death in the classic Starr Park era. It felt very directed to the visitors rather than the employees, though, which resulted in strikes and organisations like S.P.U.D.E.
But it also got me thinking: this might actually be more directed to the employees, rather than the guests. It seems many employees are hired to Starr Park to fill a void within themselves (Najia), find their community after loneliness (Ollie), or to escape a forced persona/high expectations (Kaze). It’s that pattern of dissatisfaction with their old lives for the supposed utopia Starr Park provides. And they all went there VOLUNTARILY, on their own accord. It is almost as if Starr Corp is communicating to them, “Come here to become your true self and never go back.” So when they force this constant happiness, it is some twisted reminder that all really is well here; that is so much better than wherever they came from. I don't want to use the phrase "targeting vulnerable people", but from the backstories we DO have, this pattern does seem to apply. It's either a coincidence, or maybe Starr Corp really does employ people like this. They are saving them, giving them a new life to pursue their real dreams and become their true selves.
Except they don’t become their true selves. Brawlers are almost caricatures of themselves. But they are happy and safe now, so what?
So organisations like SPUDE could come as some big betrayal to them. I love LOVE The Truman Show, so I always imagined the Starr Corp CEO as not some pure evil mastermind but more as Christof from the film (GO WATCH IT!!). Christof claims that he keeps Truman on Seahaven Island to protect him, that the world outside is cruel and full of lies, that in his world, he has nothing to fear. Obviously, this is manipulation, but if you actually watch The Truman Show critically, Christof's words do have some merit. Seahaven Island IS perfect; no drama, no issues, the world is crafted for Truman himself so he never has to suffer (that was until the end, when he goes off to escape and the producers are forced to capture him with dangerous prop storms).
The CEO might work with the same principle; Starr Park was designed to hold all who were struggling in a safe place without danger (proper danger at least; brawling is assumed to be a sport). Sure, you get some cheap labour out of it, but you cannot deny that people at least aren't a little more fulfilled here, and that they have no reason to be mad about it. I think this is why I found Najia's ad so memorable (also my goat Taika Waititi); she starts to feel like she wants to leave Pyramind Quest, maybe even Starr Park as a whole, but she remembers how unfulfilled she was before; she has found happiness in her prison, and that accidental analogy is honestly a bit horrifying lol.
Starr Corp builds itself on successes like this. That, I think, is much more malicious than a company that is aware of its misdeeds, is one that thinks of itself as doing the right thing.
But what about the ones where the novelty wears off? Where they begin to notice the cracks in the walls and the crimes of Starr Corp? Organisations like SPUDE and WKBRL, ones mostly run by the older employees? Make them less relevant! Bring in other people to overshadow them and render them useless. It's not that Starr Park has a shitton of employees; it's that some of them are being replaced and having the public attention shifted away from them. The ratio of happy employees to unhappy employees stays up, and those ungrateful ones are rendered as outliers rather than the truthful norm. (Okay, i kind of bullshitted this part lol)
It is also a little fishy that Starr Park makes itself visible to them at their lowest, but also doesn’t force them to come in, like a beacon of light. They just go to this isolated theme park, and NO one starts losing their mind? Do they also make sure they have no one in their lives? Like some charity or an orphanage? Except not actually non-profit but driven by extreme greed. Gahhh, Starr Corp would be such an awesome evil company, but it is from a mobile game so… "Gotta do everything myself,” as Belle would say.

Oki so my last Kaze centered post is defending her against unfair criticism and now we’ll look into her character more and her redesign esp her character it makes me so mad when ppl dismissed it or WORSE MISCHARACTERIZED (staring menacingly at u ppl who call her femme fatale when she’s actually just sweet but deadly) just bc her design is misrepresented
Also originally I was gonna redraw my old kaze drawing but it looked like ass so I stopped (editing 3d models is so long but its so addicting bc of the end results)
Extra: it makes me so fucking pissed off that a white woman (piper) is dressed more like a geisha than the actual geisha herself WHOS ASIAN GREAT FUUUUU-
Genuine question how is Kaze a stereotype, I don’t doubt that there might be geisha stereotype I just haven’t seen a geisha stereotype that’s like Kaze and to be a stereotype is to generalized of something or someone like Voodoo magic being bad when it’s an actual closed religion by black ppl and even before faciliar it’s been portrayed as bad Misrepresented is a more accurate way to describe Kaze unless she’s a stereotype of some other thing that I didn’t know about
Character:
- her character is like Rapunzel if u think about it
- I like that she actively chose to be feminine there’s a lack of feminine presenting female brawlers that are actually nice and sweet and in the real world where ppl perceive fem as weak or a tool to control when it should be smth to express or preference, to have a character that actively chose to be fem but be strong in her own way and be happy is rlly good and also it made me realized how much I liked fem presenting brawlers (Melodie Gigi Starr Nova and then there’s Mandy who I see like a fem tomboy ish idk if that makes sense but ig she still counts)
- she has a drawing of her father aka the one who hurts her which hurts bc her father keeps training her to become a tool which eventually made Kaze resent her father and leave her toxic family and note that Kazes a victim she’s controlled by her father I think ppl hardly think about this aspect and it sucks
- also in her backstory it’s Kaze herself who went against her father SHE DID IT Kenji’s the one who broke the chains and Kazes the one who fight against her fathers control and power WHICH IS MEANINGFUL so for anyone who say “lol she just gets saved by Kenji” ur demeaning her character and imagine saying that to irl victim yehhhhhh I think that’s not a good sign
- and even besides her backstory I still think her character is neat AND WE SHOULD HAVE MORE OF HER (GIVE HER MORE SKINS DAMMIT) idk I rlly like sweet characters (btw my favs Meeple and Melodie-) and I want more of her (at least we do now!)
- personally I liked her voicelines more than Kenji both of Kaze voices is so good (and makes me gay af) but also it’s a good display of her character and the differences of her Geisha and Ninja
- I HC that the robots that are after Kenjis family is send by Kazes father
- I love my friends way of making Kazes body type for her where it’s androgynous it’s like the world wants her to be this certain way or a ninja but she says “fuck u” and goes off to be a geisha anyway
- so yeh personally out of the sushi trio Kazes my fav out of all of em
Redesign:
- wrinkles! And also more longer and thinner body but more thicker around the legs (or I tried it’s complicated and you can’t easily tell as much)
- geisha Kaze eyes are fluttershy like to give her a sweeter look Ninja Kaze eyes have a much more curved and slanted to give a menacing look
- geisha Kaze has more brighter colors to contrast to ninja Kaze
- Kaze means wind so I added wind elements to her kimono and her side hair is wing like (which is an actual style to geishas) which is why I used it
- pink accents to help separate the colors a bit more and the kimono being more accurate to geishas
- the stick that’s on her hair is kanzashi what geishas actually wear but more details to not make it look like chopsticks (and it actually can be used as a weapon) is it weird I’m making her mask a hair accessory? Yes do I hate it? No lol also the sushi accessory idk I feel like Kaze personally find it cute
- ofc we YES WE will give Kaze red lipstick I made her blush more smaller and red eyeshadow on the top eyelid she technically does not need nail polish but I did it anyway bc ik she’ll like it
- removed the white makeup and red blush she doesn’t need that and makeup on the bottom eyelid
- more dark colors to blend into the environment more and her job
- long hair is technically contradictory to the ninja design but idk I like to imagine her fighting and imagining her hair moving around it’s satisfying
