having autoplay on your blog is disruptive and startling. it bombards me with something that’s 90% of the time completely unfamiliar and often overlaps with what i’m listening to in the first place, without any warning whatsoever. it catches me offguard and...
A case for Lydia as a strong character
I’ve noted some criticisms of Lydia centred around her “weakness”, i.e. her nervous disposition, her frightened reactions to threat or intimidation, and her lack of direct aggression (whilst responsible for numerous murders, Lydia never wields a gun or initiates any kind of physical confrontation herself). Given that these characteristics are often negatively associated with women and femininity, this makes me think about how Lydia’s gender is depicted in Breaking Bad - something worth thinking about, given that she’s one of only a few prominent female characters on a show which examines ideas about power, gender roles and masculinity.

i really love this movie ok
Telling the oppressed that expressing their anger and hatred for their oppressors is okay is a huge step toward ending oppression, which is the real goal, not “ending hate” which is some abstract nonsense privileged people like to spout to try and pretend they’re not part of the problem because they don’t actively hate the oppressed.
-smitethepatriarchy in this post. Just thought it was a really good articulation of something that gets repeated often without thought: the end goal isn’t really to “end hate.” It’s to eliminate oppressions. Hate is a feeling everyone has sooner or later, as is love — oppression is an extra obstacle the privileged group does not have to deal with/be burdened with (via feministdisney)
