“Nasty run-in with your former Housemates. Not sure I should say more, don’t want to put you in an awkward spot, Reg.”

When Gwennie and Bertha asked if she wanted to go down to the lake, Emm had said yes without so much a second thought. She’d spent all day in the library and if she had to think about her abysmal grade in Advanced Potions any longer, she may just cry. So she’d gone, happy to spend time with friends (even if the friends weren’t Bennie or King), and more than happy to escape schoolwork.
She had been halfway through an attempt to get Gwennie to give her a piggyback ride down to the water (”Are you kidding me, Vance? You’re a tree, no way!”) when Lily had called her name. Emm had known it was Lily without looking, because she knew that voice anywhere. (Not looking too closely at that one.)
“Lils!” She said, spinning in a circle to catch sight of her friend. “Hey! Didn’t think I’d run into you down here.”
Lily grinned back at Emm when she turned around, setting her book aside. “Unfortunately, I’ve got some work to do, but I was hoping the sunshine would make me feel better about that. What are you up to?” she added, peering up. “Just out for a stroll?”
Some part of her hoped that Emm wasn’t too busy and would stick around to chat, although she had gotten a bit better at ignoring such thoughts as those.

“Well, according to this book, you are kind of an asshole. Sorry you had to find out this way.”
“Ah, well it takes one to know one, doesn’t it?”

“Hey, don’t look now but I think someone’s eying you up.”
“I’m sorry, was that... Are you being serious?”

“Well we’re expecting! Uh, I mean she’s expecting. We made the child together but not really like expecting together since it’s Andie’s body…”
“Oh Merlin, that’s so exciting! Ted, congratulations! Please tell Andie too, wow, this is amazing!”

“Might want to substitute firewhiskey with cooking sherry. You know Sirius will drink most of it.” Remus chuckled before nodding his head in agreement. “I hope soon too.”
“Ah yes, drunk Sirius. Affectionately known as the life of the party, though, eh? Or maybe just ridiculous.”

“It’s true, I have turned to a life of crime. I don’t know if i can recover.”
“You know, I don’t think you can. Don’t worry, I’ll keep this secret for you.”

“Come on, can you really object? We’re good looking guys aren’t we?”
“Cause we’re a beautiful crop of blokes. Exactly what I’ve been saying! Knew I’d get through to you eventually.”
“Don’t make me say it; it’ll just inflate your ego even more.”
“Alright, fine, you’ve awoken my inner Gryffindor sense of courage and boldness. And recklessness. Satisfied?”

The shimmer of sunlight across the Great Lake kept distracting Lily from her textbook. Despite her best efforts, she couldn’t keep her mind focused on the nuances of Human Transfiguration, which would most likely result in her turning her own eyebrows blue or some other nonsense in class tomorrow.
Still. With a sigh, she marked her page and closed the book, leaning back against the beech tree behind her. The sunlight was warm on her face and the chatter of other students, similarly studying around the Lake, was a low, comforting murmur against her ears. She could always finish the chapter she had been assigned later tonight, with Mary and everyone else in the common room.
She dozed for a little bit, warm and comfortable, before a set of louder voices caught her attention. Opening her eyes, she caught sight of a group of students making their way to the beech tree themselves; looking more closely, she saw a familiar figure among them. Her heart rate sped up a little at that, a fact that she resolutely ignored.
“Emm!” Lily called, hoping to catch the Ravenclaw’s attention.
“I am just as shocked as you are, Evans. Why don’t you tell me the answer?”
“Oh, I’ll tell you something, alright. Two things, actually: first, that’s the smell of multiple Dungbombs that have gone off; and second, I know for a fact that you’re a proud owner of a Dungbomb collection. Need I say anything else?”

“I’m getting older Lily, I’m nearly going to be a father! I need to be able to walk away and get home to my family.”
“Are you really? Tell me about these family plans, that sounds so exciting!”

“You say relax but it’ll be bittersweet.” Remus sighed and gave a small smile of encouragement. “But that sounds like a great idea.”
“It will be, but that’s what firewhiskey and good cooking is for! Hmm, I’ll ask everyone else when they’re free. Hopefully soon.”

“We can work something out between the three of us.”
“You’re damn right we would. And you’ll be a lot happier for it, a boring life is not the life for Lily Evans. You know it, I know it.”
“Oh, that’s the way it’s going to be, is it?”
“Yes, well, I keep you lot around for a reason, don’t I? We’re not even twenty yet, there’ll be plenty of time to be boring when we’re dead. “

“What do you want to hear about it? Some sort of weird, latent, jealousy thing you’ve got going? Want to know what you’re missing?”
“On the contrary, I just find it amusing when you make a fool out of yourself.”

“I don’t most of them would let me. I’m not nearly quite that good at schoolwork. Maybe Flitwick would though? He’s really nice.”
“Oh yes, Flitwick is quite the sweetheart. I don’t know if he or McGonagall is my favorite professor. I’m sure if you asked Flitwick nicely he might consider it. Erm, McGonagall definitely wouldn’t though.”
