Amber Heard and her legal team played an audiotape of Johnny Depp expressing his desire to harm himself in the courtroom today, which caused Johnny to break down and cry on the stand. And while that’s sickening, here are some of the things I noticed from this:

Instead of helping him get the help he needed, she chose to record him when he was at his lowest point.

Her team did not ask a single question about the audiotape after they played it. They literally only made Johnny relive that moment of his life, left him crying on the stand knowing he legally cannot talk about it to anybody for 3 whole days.

The audiotape was about Johnny wanting to harm himself. Not her.

There was NO other reason for them to play that audiotape except their wanting to break him down, knowing they’ve screwed up. That’s a very low move even for AH. She’s still publicly abusing and gaslighting him. And you want me to believe she’s the victim????

Severus Snape: *changes sides for a loved one (Lily). Is poor, unattractive, and a Half Blood. Does countless good things in his life and saves the entire Wizarding World. Is EXTREMELY important to the story and the main hero would’ve died before they lived to see their 2nd birthday if it wasn’t for him.*

HP fandom: He’s an incel, he did only one good thing in his life and only did it because of Lily!

Horace Slughorn: *literally has an entire club for his favourite students to make himself look good and doesn’t focus on the student that actually need help (and doesn’t even remember their names).*

It is canon that Snape hated teaching. However, he seemed to take his job very seriously, teaching improved and advanced methods and frequently assigning essays he himself had to read and grade. This is further proof that Severus Snape was a massive fucking nerd. In this essay, I will-

Severus Snape’s abilities:

Dark Arts

His understanding as a student is so great he made multiple hexes and even curses whilst still in school. And his knowledge as an adult, was so great that even Albus came to him on the subject multiple times.

Charms

Severus could use Charms without fail.

Potions

Schooled the potions book of Hogwarts itself when he was a student. He also created a resistance potion to a curse invented and cast by Voldy Moldy himself, keeping it at bay for an extraordinarily long time, given that it was an extremely powerful curse. He was even able to give private lessons in alchemy, something not even taught at Hogwarts for it’s difficultly and required knowledge

Spell creation

Created numerous powerful spells and while still in school

Flight

He has the ability of unsupported flight. An ability which only The Dark Lord himself possesses. Speaks for itself.

Love

Severus was the only one in Voldemort’s inner circle who was capable of feeling unconditional love, and he was the only Death Eater who could cast a Patronus, he was protected by his ability to *love* Lily.

Occlumency

He joined the death eaters when he was about 19 years old, which meant that he was that good at Occlumency to keep Voldy Moldy from reading his mind. He was 20 when he went to Dumbledore and betrayed Voldemort, he kept Voldemort believing his loyalty for 17/18 years. And Lord Voldemort was considered the most powerful Legilimens in existence. The only people able to recreate this feat are Gellert Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore. So he had already perfected Occlumency.

Legilimency

Harry states multiple times that it was like Severus could read his mind and during his departure of the astronomy tower he used Legilimency to read Harry’s attempted moves and countered them all before they could be cast. He could even use memory extraction by just using eye contact, no want or incantation needed.

Transfiguration

He was seen transfiguring the whirlwind-shaped fire that McGonagall launched at him into a great, black snake. Using his transfiguration, a very difficult form of magic, in the midst of combat. Severus even took it a step further, being a master at conjuration and vanishment. Conjuring ropes so fast with the incarcerous spell that neither Remus Lupin or Sirius Black could respond. Severus was able to conjure objects and animals, and Transfigure elements into other objects with apparent ease.

Defense Against The Dark Arts

His encyclopedic understanding of The Dark Arts made so that Sev taught the class at N.E.W.T level to such an effect that even Harry couldn’t help but be enchanted by his knowledge. His knowledge in healing was so great that Dumbledore once quoted to Harry that Severus was more experienced in healing against Dark magic than Poppy Pomfrey was. Keeping Albus alive for over a year whilst cursed, saving Katie Bell from a cursed necklace and healing Draco Malfoy with ease after he was hit by Sectumsempra by Harry (although it should be noted that Severus himself created the spell and the counter-curse so he would have full knowledge and understanding of it).

Non-verbal and wandless magic

Severus was adept at using non-verbal spells, from the most basic uses (such as instruction-writing on blackboards and clean ups) to the most advanced (such as combat curses).

Logical thinking

Severus’ logic and deductive reasoning skills were such that he helped protect the Philosopher’s Stone by creating an obstacle, which was based on logic rather than magical skill.

Broomstick handling/Quidditch

On top being capable of unsupported flight in his later days, Snape was an able flyer on a broomstick, and sure enough in the rules of Quidditch to take over the position of referee at least once.

This scene is the greatest thing. Sure, he’s snarking about poisoning Potter, but he doesn’t. This is the Potions Master of Hogwarts, a man so brilliant he was re-writing his textbook at 16 years of age. He wouldn’t just run out of Veritaserum. So here he is, lying through his teeth to the woman who at this point runs the school, has the backing of the Ministry, and could probably get him fired (or far worse) in a heartbeat, all to protect Lily’s son, and he comes up with a clever, witty line to deflect suspicion while he does it. He then believably denies understanding Harry’s cryptic message, yet understands it perfectly and goes to warn Dumbledore as soon as he’s free of Umbridge.

No one on this Earth, especially not me, would suggest that Severus does not have very serious flaws, but you have to admit he is brilliantly badass.

My favorite part about this scene is that it also contrasts Snape with Umbridge and provides the reader with some further insight into how Snape operates (i.e the incongruity between what he says and what he often does and how he can be more bark than actual bite). In book four, Veritaserum is first mentioned when Snape threatens to slip some into Harry’s pumpkin juice when he suspicions him as being the one stealing from his potions storeroom. Importantly, while Snape may threaten it, he never actually does it.

Flash-forward to book five, and we’re presented with a teacher who invites Harry to her office for tea and really does attempt to slip Veritaserum into his drink. Notably, Umbridge does not threaten Harry with Veritaserum first, she simply acquires what is a Ministry controlled substance from Snape to use on Harry without him ever being aware. Significantly, the only reason that she fails is because Snape provides her with a fake potion and on her second, more brazen attempt to use it on Harry he denies having more on hand.

Snape, the teacher who made a show of threatening Harry with Veritaserum the year before, undermines Umbridge’s attempts to use it on Harry not once but twice. That is the contradiction between words and actions that characterize Snape in a nutshell. What he says cannot always be trusted to form an accurate assessment of his character –to really understand Snape the attentive reader must always keep a close eye on what he does.

one of the biggest favors snape ever did for harry (apart from literally saving his life countless times), was killing dumbledore.

dumbledore was already dying and it wasn't just because of the curse on his hand; it was also because of the poison harry made him drink in order to retrieve regulus' thrice-damned locket.

had the death eaters not come that night, or had they been delayed, or had dumbledore and harry managed to avoid their path altogether, dumbledore would still have died. that same night even, and if not, then likely the next morning. (and i wonder if he'd known?? had he known that was to be his last night either way? and how could he bring a child with him out of school to fulfill a dangerous hairbrained mission without at least one other order member with them? god.)

dumbledore would have died that night. and harry would have blamed himself.

not only would this have been a natural reaction even if the child with him hadn't been harry freaking potter, but the risk of harry self-flagellating was much higher because this had happened before. people had already literally died because of him, and his traumatized sixteen-year-old brain would immediately make the connection to the newest event and come to a conclusion: he kept leading people to their deaths -- cedric would have lived if he wasn't the Chosen One; sirius died because he hadn't bothered to listen or wait; and dumbledore...if he hadn't made him drink the potion...if he'd only stopped...

harry is saved from this bottomless pit of grief which, quite frankly, would have destroyed him after having already gone through the ordeal that was sirius death just the previous year. snape saves him by taking that blame and easing the would-be burden off of harry's shoulders. the avada kedavra is straightforward and clean, and there's no way to lay the blame on anyone else. it focuses harry's anger not on himself but on his most hated professor. harry has an outlet for his emotions, and an out for his sins. he didn't kill dumbledore. the feeling of loss may have been unfathomable but his conscience is clear: he didn't kill dumbledore. snape did.
