Biggest pet peeve in fics: referring to the characters by title instead of a name.

I roll my eyes so hard every time I read "the bleached blonde", "the curly-haired boy", "the artist", "the taller boy" (when used several times in a 2k fic), "the actor".

Seriously, just use a name. Or a pronoun.

With same sex couple fic that unfortunately tends to be somewhat inevitable because the same pronoun applies to both members of the couple and it will be unclear which one the author is referring to. Especially in sex scenes. Consider something simple like “he took his cock in hand while he groaned”. Who was taking it in hand? Was it the same guy who groaned? Was he handling his own cock or the other guy’s? And using the couple’s names quickly becomes weird and repetitive. Some of the descriptors I’ve seen could benefit from being less flowery or clunky, though.

Just watched Bugs again, and I really don't understand why it's such a hated episode.

I mean, I do understand, that J2 didn't like filming it. What with the real bees and being test stung for allergic reactions and everything.

This is a shitty quality photo and you can still see the real bee stings they got while filming that scene. Poor boys!

But as for the episode itself? It's really not that bad, story wise. And it even has a few great highlights:

"Alfie" plays the son of the family. And he's doing as great of a job as he does playing the "Wiener"- angel.

Some great BM scenes with heartfelt conversations. The boys working on what's kept them apart for years, growing together.

The winchesters get confused with a gay couple TWICE. "Let me just say that we accept home owners of any race, religion, colour or ... sexual orientation. "

Dean slaps Sam on the ass. Sam slaps Dean on the crotch. (I wonder why they get mistaken for a gay couple.)

I enjoy the bugs episode too! Maybe the naysayers are grossed out by insects? Or people who do not want to acknowledge all the slashy type content the writers have included for Sam/Dean over the years?

For me, the episode where Sam switches bodies with a kid is one where I really wish the writing was sharpened up. There are logic holes that, if cleared up, would have actually made for a better, funnier episode. For instance, the boy’s body is much shorter than Sam’s. The people interacting with switched Sam see the boy while TV viewers see Sam. The people in the show should have been talking to switched Sam’s crotch or stomach where the boys face would be instead of looking up into Sam’s face. Sam doesn’t get many comedy episodes, so to me that episode is a unfortunate missed opportunity.

About the “Walker: Texas Ranger” Reboot

So I heard that they were rebooting Chuck Norris’ “Walker: Texas Ranger” TV show without Chuck Norris. 

Now, I’m all for new takes on shows and stuff (in certain exceptional circumstances), but ya can’t have a Chuck Norris TV show without Chuck Norris. I’m sorry. No I’m not. 

Also, I’m well aware that they cast Jared Padalecki as Walker, and just between you and me (and everyone else on Tumblr), I would’ve cast Jensen Ackles. I know that Jared’s got the hair for it, but Jensen has the face, guys. The chiseled jaw, stubbled face, and soft eyes that girls fall in love with. Jensen is a good Chuck Norris place-taker. We’ve seen his acting. We know.

Everyone has their personal preferences but I don’t see your reasoning here. The two Supernatural guys grow facial stubble about equally effectively. Jared has the more muscular and defined body and jaw. He has more muscle and less body fat than Jensen. That is no criticism of Jensen. Jensen has been open since the early years of Supernatural that he likes to sleep in, not hit the gym very much, and control his weight more with controlling food intake while Jared gets up early to work out, works out hard during the day, and eats a lot that he burns off. Jensen has made that comparison himself. The guys each have the lifestyles they are comfortable with and different bodies to match. Both of them have nice eyes that women notice. I’m not sure how “soft eyes” connect to replacing Chuck Norris, though. Or acting of the very highest caliber. Chuck Norris was widely regarded as a cool badass action guy, not the soft-eyed finest thespian in all the land.

For this argument to still be used against Jensen...I mean, it feels like these people don’t want destiel to be made canon, so they’re using Jensen as their scapegoat despite the heaps of evidence directly against what they argue. Questions about destiel like he’s gotten at cons would make anyone uncomfortable, especially since antis are so vocally violent. Jared hasn’t been private about his politics. He’s been publicly democrat, tweeting support of Obama and bitching at republicans who failed to appreciate the worth of public programs. He wasn’t a Trump switch over as Jensen appears to be. Maybe this is permanent for Jensen or maybe not, but his political affiliation in the past, present or future doesn’t change all of the evidence he’s a good guy who has treated his co-workers and this fandom very well. Jensen has been quiet about his politics which is worth respecting. However, pretending that a party affiliation he’s had for most of his adult life doesn’t exist, isn’t a part of him, and would be some sort of terrible black mark against him that excludes him from friendship with all other good people isn’t being respectful really.

Misha was friends with Jensen while Jensen lived in California. When Jensen lived in California Jensen was a registered Republican. Party registration was a matter of public record where Jensen lived and had to be annually renewed. This was all well established years ago. Misha is on good terms with publicly libertarian Mark Pellegrino.  Misha can obviously put aside politics when it comes to getting along with co-workers and recognizing good traits in the people around him. Besides, Misha opposes torture but it didn’t stop him from accepting work on 24 where torture was glorified all the time. 24 was in fact used in congressional hearings to illustrate the usefulness of torture despite the research finding to the contrary.

Also, can I point out the USA has only two parties and that some people are very much one issue voters? Jensen’s dad who he loves and respects very much is actively and openly involved in the anti-abortion movement. He delivers pro-life news on youtube videos like the one below talking about “abortion empires”, “abortion mills”, and abortion clinics as “death camps”. The GOP have been very successful using abortion as a wedge issue. They need to build up hysteria over issues like gay marriage, abortion, immigration and trans bathroom use to keep poor people voting counter to their own economic interest. Jensen has talked about his family being Christians, some extremely Christian. I don’t know his stance on abortion, but it is a high priority among plenty of Christians including his dad apparently. Some people are one issue voters on guns, abortion, etc. All I’m saying is that you don’t know all the intricacies of a person’s views just by knowing their usual party affiliation, especially in a two party system.

Jensen’s aunt is just a rumor thing, nothing he’s addressed or that has been documented. There was some online gossip that claimed he has a lesbian aunt. Some online gossip was that he supported her. Someone posted that support did not extend to her right to marriage, and it was all part of a painful thing in the family. Is that true? Who knows? If, so it may have changed. Once people get used to the reality of gay marriage attitudes tend to change. But the aunt and his relationship with her has just been gossip, rumor and speculation. Maybe it was pulled out of everyone’s butts. Also, I’ve known generally good egg religious people who supported LGBT people overall but under the influence of their church and misinformation campaigns did not support gay marriage when it was being decided.

Additionally, it is entirely possible for someone to be totally pro LGBT people but to disagree with a fan notion that his own character is LGBT and to push back at times when fans try to push his character’s direction in canon. Dean has expressly stated from the start of the series that he is attracted to women and not to guys. Everyone’s orientation deserves respect. We saw his djinn fantasy ideal partner who was a woman. His siren incarnation was a more devoted brother, not a sex partner. Sam has been the ambiguous one, in how he’s used non-gendered words talking about exs, failed to expressly provide his orientation like Dean has, had no porn turned up in the bunker search that turned up Dean’s porn of women, drew male cross road demons, and so on and so on. It’s also heavily alluded to in canon that Sam was raped by Lucifer, so a positive sexual relationship with a guy might be healing for him. It would be nice to see that addressed further in something other than Lucifer’s gloating rape jokes. Both Dean and Sam have had man crushes (Sam on Gandhi, Dean on Dr. Sexy and the wrestler) but it was on guys who fit what they aspired to be themselves. There are straight identified Spn cast guys with passionate man crushes on the Pearl Jam guys. Jensen’s reading of the character is plenty consistent with canon and not something that would require any kind of prejudice to conceive of and hold to. Jared has already said that he’s open to playing Sam LGBT if the writers chose to go that way, if people are looking for a brother to come out in the last season. It’s a shame that canon queer Crowley who did not fit the conventionally hot physical image was ignored so much by the fans as a sexual being and a shipping potential and so underserved by the writers (probably due to the lack of fan interest).

In no way was I putting Jensen down, and I was doing the exact opposite of expecting him to be a pony moving to the tune I would like. I was respecting his ability to make decisions about his own politics and his character in a show regardless of whether they are the ones I would make or ones that are most popular with people here. I was saying that I think we should be able to accept that he is his own man and by all evidence he is a good, considerate man who treats people well without insisting that he always has to share all our political allegiances or ideas about his character to qualify as a good guy. People chose a party for any of a whole variety of reasons, from single issues to pieces of their personal identity to their financial interests. If he was a big republican booster in the media I would be more conflicted, but he’s been quiet about that. He’s more private than the other guys and he’s also more than smart enough to know that republican politics are unlikely to endear one to many of the most active members of Spn fandom or to Hollywood decision makers.

Jensen interprets Dean as a straight man, and has been open about that. There is legitimately a strong canon basis for that interpretation, including the character’s consistent clear express identification of his own sexuality. I already stated Jared tweets democratic support and tweets sass at republicans. He joined twitter in late 2011, so he didn’t really have a chance to do that much before 2012. Who knows whether Jensen was pleased about Obama being elected because he supported Obama politically or if he was just one of the reasonable minded republicans who were pleased to see rejoicing over the breaking of the color barrier there? Either way he can still be an OK human being.

Jared’s wife made a couple of GOP contributions, despite a democratic husband and herself championing democratic causes like pro-choice. Maybe she supported Mitt genuinely in that election or maybe it was social pressure at some Idaho fundraising event with her family. People have claimed to know Jensen’s wife’s brother who socializes with Jensen and Danneel and runs the beer business with them is conservative, and that relationship didn’t split when Jensen started supporting some democratic candidates. This stuff just supports that these are a bunch of people who can get past politics and love each other anyway. The Ackles and the Padaleckis are very friendly with each other’s extended families regardless that Genevieve and Alan Ackles have strong opposite views on abortion rights. Even being politically passionate does not mean that a person has to be the type who shuns everyone who is not of like mind.

The Malibu democrat mayor thing I’m not sure of, and rumor can go crazy in this stuff. I have seen these debates going on for years and seen people bringing receipts (like with the republican voter registration which fans noted was still republican when they checked on the LA county registrar website in 2012) and other people being called out for having no receipts at all and wild speculation without any actual basis like on the aunt thing. I did a few quick searches and I saw one person previously claiming Jensen attended a fundraiser for a surfer candidate in Malibu, but it didn’t say if the surfer was republican, democrat or independent. All of which is just to say that I’m just going to view this as rumor for now until I actually see it substantiated. No offense intended. If receipts have been given and I missed it then I’d be happy to know about it.

I don’t know why you are bringing up Austin party registration? Nobody made any statements about that. His voter registration in California was viewable online and that is what was established previously, nothing has been established re his registration in Texas.

With the announcement that season 15 is the end for Supernatural, I think what hurts the most is that after the show ends, there won’t be a JaredandJensen, sorta speak. (We’ll have a Jared and a Jensen but not really them two together anymore.) We might get the occasional one here and there but not like we do now and that’s sad. I knew it was approaching sometime soon, but I still wasn’t ready for it, you know?! I mean, just look at these two goofballs. I’m going to really miss them (along with SamandDean Winchester).

But J2 live in the same Texas town as neighbors, pick up each other’s kids from the same daycares/schools, have wives who are good friends and share a friendship group there. They also both own their own businesses (in similar industries even - a beer manufacturer and a bar) and have enough money to stay home with their kids a lot instead of working after all the years mostly away for Spn. It would make sense to think they’ll both be spending little time with the rest of the past and present cast and crew who live far off outside of Texas, but as best friends who have chosen to live closely with each other’s families outside of Hollywood I don’t see why they wouldn’t still see a lot of each other. They may be on social media less without the show to promote, though? Or maybe they’ll be on it more with more time on their hands, who knows?

I guess I’ve avoided addressing this long enough 😐 okay, I’m going to state my opinion on this once and I know that my response to this may bring some hate but it is what it is and I won’t apologize for my opinion. Sebastian Stan has been problematic for some time now but of course his stans have fiercely defended him. The people he surrounds himself with are racist adjacent and not ONCE has he ever acknowledged this fact . Then his act of being oblivious to current events and being insensitive to the fight of others, I’m just over it. It’s exhausting.

Hope this somewhat answers your question darling, the final straw for me was a couple months ago.

You are entitled to your own opinions, mcusocialimagines, but it is unfair to make such allegations in gross sweeping generalizations and to do so without any facts or details that would allow curious people to even begin to make their own assessments.

Wisdomloyalty, some people have chosen to hold Sebastian accountable for behaviour they dislike in a few people in some way connected to him. There are only three people in question, two of whom are or were employees. That is out of the many people surrounding him personally and professionally who otherwise appear to have passed the bizarre cyber inquisition directed at anyone with the nerve to associate with him or his genitals. How did those two people come into his employ? Did he find them or hire them himself? Who knows? Does Sebastian also get unearned credit or blame for all the words and deeds performed when he isn’t around by the people who scrub his toilets, style him, write his contracts, drive him, prepare his coffees, etc?  

He publicly announced he was letting go of his assistant for posting anti-muslim stuff and thanked fans for bringing it to his attention. That is definitely “acknowledging” objectionable views of someone around him, and going beyond that to deal with it. There is no indication he was previously aware of her postings.

All his trainer stands accused of is voting for Trump, like an approximate one third of Americans who made the disastrous decision to go for Trump out of a variety of reasons including the same vague “let’s shake things up with something different and someone new” notion that had previously helped Obama. Apparently the trainer posted something about it online. Does Sebastian know about that? I guess probably by now with some fans freaking out over it? Should everybody be required to blacklist Trump voters? No employment for them, they have to starve in the gutter. The approximate one third of Americans who helped put Trump in the white house by not voting can starve too I suppose, along with the Stein voters. Sebastian has casually mentioned that he himself didn’t plan to vote for Trump and described the world being over for his circle of acquaintance when Trump was voted in, but his trainer exists so that’s it Sebastian is implicated in Trumpdom. How invested is he even in American politics? I’ve never seen him actually identify himself as an American, just as a Romanian.

Finally, there is a white Australian female small-time model who was snapped with him a couple times. They have no publicly recognized relationship of any kind and they didn’t seem to be paying each other much notice in the pics that I recall, but she seemed to be some part of his extended social circle and there was romantic/sexual speculation about them. She went to Brazil with him, so they were presumably hooking up sexually at that time if nothing else. During the Brazil trip a tumblr posted some stuff they said was screenshots from her facebook along some of their own rather extreme ranting about the screenshots. The racist allegation comes from her joking “ni**a, please” to someone in one post. Not a joke that belongs to white people. There were no remarks about POC being any less than anyone else, the comment wasn’t public, she isn’t a public figure and she isn’t and wasn’t in a publicly recognized relationship with a public figure. She claimed she never posted those things and her facebook had been hacked. The tumblr suddenly changed their story from getting the screenshots from some fans outside the USA to getting them from a friend of the model who was out to destroy her. Should Sebastian believe strangers internet stalking people around him over someone he knows and was banging? What about when you take into account that the tumblr stranger made vicious and irrational attacks about Sebastian in the same post, claiming that Sebastian who has anxiety himself must be faking his concern on the issue of anxiety and mental health as a publicity stunt because there was a screenshot that allegedly showed that 10 YEARS AGO the model posted “kill urself” to someone? There were no screenshots indicating Sebastian had ever been active on the model’s facebook or anything suggesting he knew anything about the existence of it or what she posted there. He has not been snapped with that model again. He did not issue a statement, perhaps because he didn’t want to encourage that sort of invasive and aggressive fan activity. Apparently hate blog stans contacted her modelling agency trying to get her fired among other things.

Insensitive to the fight of others appears to refer to this: when he was promoting I, Tonya he posted a meme thing regarding the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding scandal that joked something like “when taking a knee was really taking a knee”. The meme didn’t object to or denigrate the kneeling of players during the anthem, but it made reference to it in a lighthearted way that offended some people for whom the protest is so sacrosanct to them personally that levity is not acceptable. He tried explaining that he hadn’t meant anything bad with it then he apologized and said he would work on educating himself further on the issue. It was pretty obvious he did not expect the response he got there, which could be considered out of touch in the present highly charged American political environment. However, there are plenty of other instances where he has demonstrated sensitivity to the struggles of others. For instance, he supports female focused film projects, and went on choosing to work in an unusual number of them after his big break in Marvel when he could have chosen to work in (the majority) male focused projects and with male super stars instead of accepting small supporting parts to work with female ones like Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman. He also learned sign language for a deaf school friend. He supports Romanian orphans in care and McDonald House kids, though he wasn’t an orphan or in care or a terribly sick kid to my knowledge.

So there you go. The only other thing I will say is that I have not observed Sebastian Stan to have a fierce defense force. Particularly not in comparison to, say, guys like Johnny Depp or Michael Jackson who are accused of worse and of doing it themselves not of some accusation of association deal. I haven’t addressed any of this before myself - I guess it built up some since this comment has went long. What I have observed with Sebastian is that he has attracted strangely dedicated, inventive and far reaching cyber stalker haters.

I watched an episode of the series for free on dailymotion recently. What I watched was a bit blurry, though, despite the title of the video stating it was HD. I was watching on a smart TV, it might look less blurry on the smaller screen of a computer or something?

I was just thinking, Dean and Sam don’t have any long term love interests. They’ve had things in the past but non that have remained throughout the series. Compared to other TV programmes, especially the CW it’s hard to find one that doesn’t have the main character/s in either a, “will they won’t they?” or longterm relationship. Of course Supernatural breaks a lot of norms when it comes to the structure of the series but just a random thought.

They’ve never had someone who has been there, fighting along side them, someone who is loved by the fandom and has had a huge influence on them both. One more than the other. Oh wait…

Sam and Dean are a duo. They love each other intensely and fight beside each other. The will they won’t they has been there from the beginning, regardless of whether one thinks of their relationship sexually or not. From the start Dean is pushing hard for a commitment from Sam to be his life partner essentially. From the series beginning Dean is hurt and upset anytime Sam thinks or acts towards a life of something other than sharing the car and motels and hunting jobs with Dean, and he guilts Sam over it. Years of drama and tension has focused on Sam’s resistance to the life partners always on the hunt idea gradually being worn down, and Dean’s stubborn dedication to Sam as his top priority and that he wants to work and live as a unit with Sam.  Dean’s siren is even a reflection of that desire and quest - it is explicitly a brother, a brother who happens to be more ready to commit to Dean and spend all their time together. It’s a pretty classic set up at the basics. Roguish popular promiscuous good time guy can have anyone....except for the one he wants to settle down with, the straight laced, bookish, monogamy preferring partner who calls him on his shit, resists his charms, and is hard to get. Everyone from angels, the king of hell and god’s sister throw themselves at Dean along the way trying to claim some special connection, while Dean keeps rolling along when they show up. Sam is the one who has been hard for Dean to get, and the one Dean spent years pursuing and securing as a life partner.

Misha REALLY wants the democrats to have more power (understandably). Turning Texas blue would be a big thing and democrats have been hoping that it will become a swing state. Some states like Texas and Florida have extra political significance. Although, it’s entirely possible that he is just lending his name as a big social media presence and isn’t dedicating as much money as J2 (who actually live in Texas and who as co-leads earn more money than supporting actor Misha).

These two are great together. They both have kind of a “a roll with” openness that flows well together, at least it does nowadays when their relationship has developed and Misha has become accustomed to Jared’s size or his playful shenanigans. sometimes i think the J’s just don’t know when what they’re saying could be viewed as controversial (but i guess, being human, you often say things you don’t mean/have things misconstrued/later regret your choice of words). i don’t think Jared meant any real harm by saying this, but you have to be conscious of things that are happening in the world around you, or else you look a little insensitive. it’s kind of like their Bill Cosby “joke” all over again.

Context should be looked at more broadly than just what is in the recent news. British people are a privileged group of visitors and immigrants in the USA because there is an underlying general assumption that they are classier, more intelligent, better educated and wittier than Americans and would make for pretty desirable additions to the public. They are not normally targets for prejudice; the biases about them run in their favor actually.  And it was a papers joke not some sort of “stealing your baby from you” joke.

Also, the condemnation and very public shaming over the “Cosby joke” could have used a lot more context and self-awareness from fans. Gee, why might these guys think it was OK to treat the subject of non-consensual sex lightly for a moment in an environment for fans of a show that has a long history of including some male/male rape jokes in popular episodes (e.g. Dean cracking to an actual recent anal assault survivor that some alien made him their bitch and Dean’s lighthearted references to the legitimate possibility of his brother being raped while in the Folsom Blues prison), a Lucifer character whose hallucinatory version with its constant gloating jibes about having previously raped Sam was so incredibly warmly received that it replaced how the real version of the character was written and performed despite the bizarre inconsistency of that replacement, and a fan art following that has always produced mounds of fan works that depict these actors themselves and their characters enduring or perpetrating non-consensual sex for consumption as erotic entertainment? I’m not saying all that deserves to be attacked or shamed or stopped, I’m just saying that it is hypocritical to say as people were in response to J2′s joke “rape jokes are never acceptable! J2 should know that!” while treating male/male rape lightly as an acceptable thing for themselves or others to joke about or write sexy fan entertainment about. Male rape survivors are numerous (particularly due to prisons, although male on male prison rape is a big joke in the wider culture and even crowed about gleefully as some sort of just punishment for criminals people dislike) and male survivors are more socially stigmatized than female rape survivors. Male/male harassment and assault were also part of the MeToo revelations. I think it would have been fairer to say that treating non-consensual sex at times lightly is in poor taste but something that is in some ways endemic to fan culture and general culture and not something to single people out for shaming about unless it is especially grievous, personal, malicious, etc.

Can we not compare Dean to John Winchester in the parenting department?

It is true that Dean was being a little shit to Jack, but please it would be close to blasphemy if you say that Dean Winchester is John Winchester who was canonically a shitty parent. Dean, for all intents and purposes is not Jack’s parental figure (at least not yet) and Dean is one of the three best parental figures in the entire show , the other two being Jody and Bobby. Dean was a mother and father to Sam. He practically raised him, cooked for him, looked after him, probably made sure that he had the chance to stay in school because he knew how much Sam loved school and took care of him all his life. Dean was Ben’s dad for an entire year and made such an impression on the child that he tried to get Dean and Lisa back together just so that Dean would come back to him. Dean is the one who shares that special bond with Claire and every other teenage kid they meet. Heck he forms a bond with every other kid they meet in a handful of interactions. On the other hand John Winchester was canonically an old drunk who abandoned his children in shitty motel rooms and forced them to grow up in a hazardous environment. John Winchester was the man who wanted to train his four year old son to become the perfect soldier. He was the son of a bitch who destroyed childhoods.

So don’t you dare say that Dean is John, Dean never was and never will be his biological father. I love Jack, I really do and I screamed profanities at Dean when I watched 13.02 but saying that Dean is John is not just the worst insult but also untrue. Dean’s mistrust towards Jack itself is in fact his parental instinct going on an overdrive and nothing else.

Dean was a different parent to Sam and more present than John was but I wouldn’t necessarily say he was better from what we know in canon. Dean feeds little Sammy quicky junk food like a bag of chips for dinner. John has something his sons refer to as his famous kitchen sink soup that he made for them sometimes. To keep the boys out of the way while he is trying to save lives and get justice for Mary and get the demon who will come for Sam, John leaves Sam with Dean in hotel rooms and later by himself in the hotel room where we see Sammy with his invisible friend. To keep Sam out of the way while he is trying to get laid, Dean leaves little Sammy all alone in restaurants staffed by grown men wearing disguises back when no background checks were required to work around kids. Sam, who has bravely dealt with all manner of monsters in his life, has an intense and enduring phobia of clowns from whatever that experience involved for him, which Dean finds amusing. John wasn’t accepting of Sam’s wish to pursue interests and a career other than hunting, but he had some idea of the threats Sam faced outside and inside as a result of the demon connection. Dean hasn’t been accepting of who Sam is beyond that. Dean shames Sam for that, but also for Sam for being too effeminate and seeming gay (which we never see or hear of John doing to Sam or Dean in canon). Sam has spent the series declining to specify his own sexuality and he does not tell Dean about Lucifer raping him even when Hallucifer is following him around taunting him about that all the time, and it would not be surprising if the fem/gay shaming had something do with Sam not opening up about that stuff to Dean.

Dean has always been highly suspicious of supernatural type creatures and reluctant to give them a chance, which is probably what is coming out with regards to Jack. He secretly killed Sam’s first love out of that. He told Sam, his brother/son, that if he didn’t know him he would want to hunt him when all Sam was doing at the time was having psychic visions. Dean is the big brother who has always been supposed to be in charge and the protector, so it is kind of natural for him to be the hardliner in the area of potential threats.

Why all the hate ?

Been seeing a lot of hate in this fandom lately .. frankly I’m sick of it. People are lately fighting over the main actors of the show and really there’s no reason for any of it. Now I’m hearing about Jared fans not being nice about Jensen and it’s always been the other way around before … it just never seems like we can all get along. I myself was actually trying to defend Jensen cause I have nothing against him whatsoever but was accused of hating him because they took what I said the wrong way. This needs to stop because Jared, Jensen and Misha are all good friends in real life and would hate to see us fight over them ! There’s been too much drama in between these actors’ fans lately that it’s getting unbearable . How about nobody hates on anyone alright ? Can’t we all just get along ?

What anyone sees in fandom, especially on tumblr where it depends what and who you follow and whether you happen to spot a post before it gets old or is deleted after causing upset, is their individual experience through their own lens not the full picture. Here is what I saw.

There were people who posted nasty shit about Jared’s charity work with AKF before YANA ever existed. When YANA was first announced destielheadcanon posted on her/his tumblr vicious remarks about Jared and AKF and claimed that Misha and YANA were morally superior. Her/his posts upset a lot of people who’d benefited from AKF and depended on it for piece of mind. Destielheadcanon said she/he stood by her/his comments but deleted the posts because she/he didn’t want to take responsibility for talking to people he/she’d upset with the mean and unnecessary comparisons. People who were upset directly from that flooded into the YANA tag expressing anger that people there did not understand and considered totally bizarre and unprovoked because they hadn’t seen the deleted posts. One woman who appeared to be distressed and likely suffering some sort of mental illness herself ended up mentioning harming Misha in her rambles. Some Misha fans made rather reckless choice to engage with the fan in an escalating way and they publicly talked the thing up a LOT. Clearly Misha should be informed about possible threats and we want him safe, but some discretion is better for ensuring safety in that type of situation. Luckily it was OK, the extra security for Misha was used for that one single convention only and worried fans who commented on the scene posted ridiculing things about how harmless and silly the woman was (a bit harsh considering YANA was supposed to be about supporting the mentally ill - who can act out in upsetting ways sometimes - but I understand the impulse based on the worry). Still, security stays publicly silent about celebrity threats and stalkers for a reason. Giving public attention to it encourages such people and makes it more likely they will act out dangerously. I don’t know whether Jared and Jensen or the studio pay Clif’s wages, but whoever it is has not spent all these years paying for constant personal professional security for those two without there being some ongoing concerns for their physical safety. We just normally aren’t privy to the threats and stalkers celebrities deal with unless they are pushed to the point of taking it to court. Instead we witness open internet harassment sometimes like that twitter account that would sometimes flood Jared with tweets trying to talk him into committing suicide after something like the imagined slight to Jensen when he didn’t tweet a congratulations for the twins (predictably because he’d known about them for a long time already), or inappropriate plans like the girls who were planning to present Jensen with lube at a convention, or fans putting down each other’s favorites as happens with all three of the guys. There have been plenty of fans who come onto the Jared tag to announce that Jared is a terrible person and even trying to shame people for having fan tumblrs for him. Often they appear to be Misha focused fans and seem to have missed that Misha has done similar stuff to the things Jared gets called out for, only Misha usually escapes criticism for that stuff they have in common. Which is not to say that Misha doesn’t get bashed plenty about other things, because he certainly does.

I’ve noticed that the past year or so at conventions, whenever Jared and Jensen are asked if they’re like brothers in real life, they’ll make joke about how they’re not like brothers and then they’ll dance around it, always saying that they’re friends/best friends/buddies but they won’t say that they’re like brothers. They never used to be like that. When I entered this fandom 4 years ago and up until about a year ago, whenever they were asked if they felt like brothers in real life, they always immediately answered with “yeah we’re brothers and we always will be” they didn’t make a joke about it or dodge the word “brother” in their answers like they do now. I’m probably reading too much into it but it makes it seem like their relationship is less than it used to be when they refuse to say that they’re like brothers, and that makes me sad 😔😔😔.

I haven’t finished watching the minncon panels yet, but I hadn’t noticed a trend like that. With Jared having the issue with crying at cons they have been trying to avoid emotionally draining stuff to some extent, though. Njcon 2016 definitely featured a sincere and stirring answer to this question, though, and it wasn’t so long ago. Jensen’s voice actually sounds like it gets a bit quavery here. It’s at about 27:10 if the clip insists on starting at the beginning.
