Day 36.

We’re getting so close!! The first megalopa has taken a shell and climbed out of the water onto a rock!! I am so ridiculously excited!!! The final stage to becoming a fully formed hermit crab…

Hey, if you like hermit crabs, check out this blog! Mary is currently making her second (or third?) attempt at raising land hermit crabs from eggs. This is an extremely difficult process and it isn’t well understood yet. There have been less than 10 people worldwide that have managed to raise zoea all the way to land. The breeding isn’t the hard part - you just need a good set up, good food, and old enough crabs. But getting those eggs hatched in salt water & then actually raising the babies takes a TON of time & effort! The whole Facebook group has been avidly watching and reading her updates and celebrating every new day with her. ♥ We’re so excited that the first one has gotten into a shell!!

Holy crap, she just had another crab drop eggs tonight! So she’s got a group at day 37, a group at day 4, and now yet another at day 1…. yikes!! 

She’s going through tons of supplies keeping up with care for all of these babies, so was encouraging people to place orders with her store, though she might be a bit slow getting things sent out.
