Is so interesting that in digital circus when someone "dies" or commits suicide it's called Abstraction - I feel like it would've made more sense on its face being called Corrupted, since-

Since they're all files on a computer anyway, and you can't be recovered after it, it would make the digital analogy make more sense

But I think gooseworx knew that and specifically chose the word Abstracted for the concept and I think it makes more narrative sense for the story - something that really affected me emotionally was seeing that tumblr ask she responded to, asking her why jax's abstraction took place off screen, making it feel unceremonious and sudden, and she responded, because that's how it feels to los someone that way in real life. One minute they are here and the next they literally just don't exist on the earth anymore and it can't ever change.

The idea of someone in your mind makes up a part of who they are. Obviously we aren't Only what others perceived of us as - there's what We percieve ourselves to be, which is more important than any other perception. But when you pass away, or even more tragically take your own life, that is taken away from the world, and all that's left of you is the impact you made on the world and on others, and the perceptions and memories of you in their mind. And so while "corrupted" would've worked as a metaphor in the digital context, it's like, haunting and even more upsetting to imagine it as the literal idea of them becoming abstract - intangible, irreversible, only existing in the mind and without body or physical existence.

It's so fucking sad man I didn't really get abstraction or the designs or concepts of them until that finale and reflecting on it and consuming fan reactions and theories. Even when mourning someone who is abstracted you are really only mourning the closest approximation to what your memories and perception were, and it's heartbreaking the way that in the show the person who abstracts loses all individuality and becomes an unknowable and upsetting mass of eyes and harmful shadows. All that's left is their absence and the way others see it.

I really was hesitant to get into this show I thought it was gonna be cringe and Doing Too Much, and it was !! Lmao but it was oh so worth it because at its core it's just a story about humanity and tragedy and the alienating state of the human condition and what an absolute miracle it is that we get to find and connect with one another. In love with the world she created and I can't believe she wrote it all by herself that is such a huge inspiration to me

I watched the backrooms this week it was fucking incredible and gave me that Creative Brain Buzz but also that fantastic psychological horror movie feel when you step out the theater and the world feels surreal and everything around you is painted through the lens of what you just witnessed in that theater because of the creative vision they crafted

Currently Reading: okay I'm so bad at reading it's a major flaw but I've been slowly reading former Jeopardy GOAT Amy Schneider's book about her life and it's fascinating and got me to consider getting into tarot which is insane because I am so not a tarot/astrology/psuedo shit but hearing it from someone so logic-brained and autistically straightforward and in the way that she describes it made me want to learn more

Current Obsession : 1. hyperpop/hyperpop adjacent artists. Underscores, Jane Remover, Slayr, Gabby Start, NinaJirachi. I've been obsessed with them all, and I'm going to see underscores this Monday and I'm so fuckin excited.

2. Yugioh, I randomly downloaded the 2011 world championship ds game on my phone emulator and have been obsessively playing it. I got really into magic the gathering recently and coming back to yugioh just as something to do on my phone made me realize how poorly designed this game (yugioh) is lmfao. Like in Magic the card art, mechanics, flavour text, name, and everything about it are all intertwined and explained in the lore of the universe. They all have reasons for being what they are. Where as in Yu-Gi-Oh, it's as if the card art department and the people who write the card effects/text aren't ever in the same room together. The only instances where they really go off are Archetypes, where they'll have groups of cards with a common gimmick name and synergistic effects (elemental heroes, lightsworns, six samurai). But even then sometimes the game can just be so janky in comparison to magic. But it is a simpler card game and made more for kids/young teens I think, and it makes it much more suitable for turning ur brain off and grinding the duels on the game and unlock packs to make better decks and fight stronger enemy decks. Also I play the emulator at 4x speed bc I'm a brainrotted crazy person

3. This game called 82-0 (82-0.com) where you try and piece together a basketball team from different teams and eras of NBA and it grades them and the goal is to make a team so good (based on the teams combined statistics) that it could win 82 games in a season without a loss. It's addicting but very luck/chance based and kind of impossible and I've spent way too much time on it this week
