i love all the characters but my favorite characters are karen wilson and tommy kinard: i'm interested in how something like "flight" can inform "first responder procedural" and "queer romance", to whatever extent.

karen is probably spending the summer trying to convince mara that being a geologist or physicist or medical doctor or scientist of any sort is exactly like being a detective. they're basically the same, she's saying, while presenting her with several kits for high school level labs. paleontology is just like solving a murder! just one from millions of years ago! (and no one gives you a gun!)

Not “Only my reading of canon is correct” or “Interpretations are subjective and all valid” but a secret third thing, “More than one interpretation can be valid but there’s a reason your English teacher had you cite quotes and examples in your papers, you have to have a strong argument that your interpretation is actually supported by the text or it is just wrong and I’m fine with telling you it’s wrong, actually.”

Fandom has such unresolved mommy/daddy issues about authors. If you apply a little reading comprehension skills to my original post you’ll see I didn’t say anything at all about the author. You guys always make “interpretation” about your beef with the author. You’re all obsessed with the author. This post is just about deciphering what is there in canon. Figuring out what is being communicated by the canon itself with all the words and images and basic formal elements that are there in canon. That’s all it’s about. It really doesn’t matter if the author intentionally put all those things there in a pattern that might support the idea that this one character’s queer. That’s not what this is about. What matters is if you can compellingly argue there’s a pattern of evidence there. Or not. Everyone is conspiring together to make me go insane still adding shit about authorial intent on my post.

this baby doesn't need another toy he can't play with, he needs to be set up for a successful future

ravi knows firsthand 1) how much it sucks to be on your feet for hours at a time and 2) just how long nurses spend on their feet. he wanted to support may's new career, and this was a way to do that

they may not be sentimental gifts, but they show he spent time thinking about each of their lives and gifting with the intention of improving those lives in some small way

flew too close to the sun imagining athena in a shabby coat, eating a bowl of chili in an empty diner while she works a case, with a giant useless dog called "dog", cornering rich and manipulative murderers so neatly in their own game they just straight up confess--chewing on a cigar. now whatever dire dramas she actually will solve on the show will be a disappointment probably. but by god do i hope she gets a crappy sedan that barely works and always has the dial tuned to classical radio. and she lets her grays show.

for anyone wondering: i did take note of the dearth of karen wilson. but she'll be back in full soon, i know it. i'm sure they're going to space again. like maybe an asteroid in season 10 opener?? armageddon but better. karen is bruce willis and in this version she gets to say "drilling is not that hard dumbass". ideally to bruce willis. and then liv tyler makes a move on her with some animal crackers or something--she's already in the 911 universe, it makes sense.
