THE WOR$T GIRL YOU KNOW JUST RELEASED A NEW ALBUM, AND IT IS AMAZING
Bubblegum pop princess takes on a new persona for her latest release; white trash turned homicidal showgirl trying to navigate fame and self doubt.
Slayyyter has been a staple in the gay community, as well as nostalgic youth who wished they were teens in the 2000s, with Slayyyter and Troubled Paradise earning her title as 'up and coming pop perfection'. While her third album, STARFUCKER, began the shift to this current era, it still had that polished and glamorous feel to it, almost being a caricature, whereas WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA is raw, honest, and gritty. This is Slayyyter’s most vulnerable project so far.
The album opens up with DANCE…, a single that highlights her vocal abilities. I was blown away upon first listen hearing the bridge. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that she was talented, but something about her vocals on DANCE… changed something within me. The song itself sets the pace for the album; unapologetic, living in the moment, and having fun, with the juxtaposition of dealing with insecurities, self-doubt, and relationship breakdowns.
CRANK is one of the loudest songs on the album. It was first released as a single in October 2025, following BEAT UP CHANEL$ and CANNIBALISM! The track is laced in rage, and cheeky lyricism, with the lines “I get so gay off that tequila” and “He wanna fuck Slayyyter, Richard, we should link later” being a prime example of Slayyyter's cheeky and vulgar nature. The heavy basslines and distorted kicks make it the most maximalist, and in my opinion, most memorable of the album. The song is already her top most popular on Spotify, sitting at 11 million streams.
The experimental sound doesn’t end with CRANK. Each track on the album has a unique feel to it, with GAS STATION dipping into dark wave, UNKNOWN LOVERZ a twinkling synthpop, and even PRAYER, a religious sermon. The album concludes with BRITTANY MURPHY, an ode to the late actress who stars in Jonas Akurland's 'Spun', a film in which Slayyyter draws inspiration from throughout this album. The track is a vulnerable piece discussing Slayyyter’s feelings surrounding herself and her career. She states feeling stagnant in her career and questioning whether “I even want to be here and do any of this anymore.” WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA is so honest and raw, filled with vulnerability and heavy basslines and electro-clash beats. It feels straight out of the Tumblr era, perfect in time for the resurgence of the app, and the new found desire of wanting to be a part of something different and expressive.
