Truth be told, Jack was a little put out by his lover's behaviour. He could have done anything, something far worse than just pitching shards of ice at him. It could have been icicles, ones that would leave holes in that soft pelt for ages. That dark spot in his heart yearned for the mayhem, to destroy and watch rivers of red run through the green grass. His love prevailed over all of this. He had no desire to kill the Pooka no more than he had the urge to kill any other Guardian. Injuries were another matter but fun sometimes led to injuries, like playing sports where it was commonly expected.
He laughed softly as he watched the chaos he'd created, brightly coloured water drenching a light grey and white pelt. There was a bit of bright red seeping into it from where shards of ice had caused tiny, shallow injuries. Those brilliant green eyes had been spared by Bunny's quick thinking and the warmth of the Warren would make short work of any that remained. They'd just be watered down along with the rest of the dye.
The laugh grew to a larger one as he saw the dripping, rainbow Pooka that stood before him. It was exactly what he'd hoped for, a rather tame prank that held most of his old joy in it rather than the malice he now craved. If he were honest, he felt like he was warring with himself. Part of him just wanted to see Bunny dripping with coloured water but the other part wanted to see him dripping with thick red, the life falling out of him drop by drop. It was the latter part that he fought off, almost making his head hurt.
Jack's laugh died in his throat when Aster moved, looking behind him a split second before he felt the paw at his back. He had no time to react before he reflexively took a breath in and found himself plunged into the river of dye. It was impossible to see and a brief flashback of terror made him almost tense up before he got hold of himself. It was better to remember the days in summer when he'd swam with others of his small colony, the warm water not the freezing cold that took his life.
With effort, the winter spirit swam toward the shore and drug himself out of it, spluttering and gasping. He didn't need air but it was a curious reflex, that part of humanity he still clung to. A mad laugh rose up in him and he looked over at Aster, his head aching. "That's not funny, Cottontail. I died like that, you know." He pulled himself up, rubbing the pigments from his eyes and face. "I fell under the water in the winter after saving my sister."
Shaking his head, Jack steadied himself with his staff then ran his free hand through his hair. "It's not fair, either. You just got a little splash then you dunked me."
Hurt him, Jack. He didn't care that you might be afraid of going underwater. The voices echoed in his mind, or perhaps it was just one voice. A hissing voice, one that had compelled him to gain the trophies that were now on his staff. His eyes darted to them then to Bunny before he closed his eyes tightly. "I don't want to hurt him," he whispered, shaking his head. He didn't know if he could win this war but he had to try a little.
