are your fics agere or agepl@y?
i am older than a lot of folks on here (25+) and I was first introduced to little space through the b*sm community, where it was called agepl@y. but for me, littlespace has always been and will always be completely non-sexual, and is less of "playing" and more just an aspect of who I am. I do not consider it a "kink" because it's not sexual at all for me and is simply about comfort & care. sometimes my regression is voluntary, sometimes it's not. for these reasons reason, I consider myself un-affiliated with either the agere or agepl@y community, I just consider myself a little!
why is your blog 18+?
I prefer for my blog to be 18+, because I am over 18, and I consider cg/l, even if it's non-sexual, to be something to be done between adults because it involves a power dynamic. however, my fics will always be completely non-sexual and sfw, and you can self-select whether you would like to interact with my content or not.
the story "a little love" is 18+ because it involves the b*sm community. but I will probably write little fics in the future that are not associated with that community.
checking ur profile to see if you have posted is my fave time of the day actually
Lolll oh my gosh I feel bad you’re checking daily when I haven’t updated in so long!! But that’s so sweet honestly. I hope I can find the inspo to post something soon! ☃️💙
I hope this doesn't come off weird, but one of my favorite parts of your Caitvi x reader fics is how rules are clearly established and appropriately enforced. That structure feels very comforting and safe to me; the standards are clear but the stakes aren't anything to fear. In your most recent one, Caitlyn even just gently reminding reader of a rule just felt really comforting. Like there are boundaries in place not for control or fear but for protection and trust. I'm going on a tangent but it's just really well written and one of my favorite parts of every fic <3
Aww that’s not weird at all, thank you for sharing! 🩵
I really love rules (this kind) too, that’s why I include it. I think it helps a lot of littles who have trouble taking care of themselves, or letting the caregivers take care of them, because then it’s no longer up to you. You just follow the rules, and that feels safe and okay. And the enforcement/reminders let you know that your CG is serious about it. Happy to know it resonates with you too!! 🥰🩵💙❄️
As someone who never really had a great childhood and never really got this sorta treatment as a kid and also felt like “being sick was a burden” like in your recent fic, reading all your fics are really comforting and bring me a sense of comfort I never had growing up. 💜💜💜
Aww sending you a big hug!! I’m so glad, that’s why I write them for myself too! We all deserve to feel that love and comfort, even if we never have before 🥰💙
your new fic made me cry cuz ive also been feeling icky lately, and it was so comforting to read 🥹❤️ get lots of rest and stay hydrated, hoping you feel better soon!!

Aww tysm sweetie you too!! I’m glad it helped you feel better!! 💐💕Being sick is the worst 😷

You wake up feeling awful.
It was probably only an hour ago that Vi brought you into the playroom and put you down for an afternoon nap, but somehow in that brief time, the symptoms that you’ve been trying to ignore all day have all decided to become absolutely horrible, all at once.
The scratchy throat from earlier now feels thick and painful every time you swallow, leaving a dry, gross taste in your mouth. Your head is throbbing and your face feels too hot while your body feels too cold, and your nose is hopelessly stuffed up.
Tears are already brimming in your eyes and you feel yourself slipping down into littlespace, the way you always do when you don’t feel well. You want your mommies and you want them now.
You wrap yourself up in a fleece blanket like a cape. It helps a little with the chills, but you still start shivering the moment your bare feet hit the floor. You let out a quiet, sad whine, wishing your mommies were here to make it all better.
You stumble out of your room and shakily make your way downstairs. When you spot Vi lounging on the couch and Caitlyn doing yoga nearby, you feel your shoulders drop with relief.
Your mind only has one thought and that’s get to Mama. So you make a beeline for Vi and climb into her lap before she’s even managed to set her novel aside, curling yourself up as small as you can and tucking your head under her chin. You rest your burning face against her chest, feeling the gentle rise and fall of her breath. Finally. This is where you want to be.
“Hey, sweetheart,” Vi says, a hint of surprise in her voice at how quickly you’ve installed yourself on her lap. But her hand comes to your back anyway, rubbing slow, soothing circles over the blanket. “Someone’s feeling like a snugglebug, hm?”
You don’t answer, just make a small sound and curl tighter into her, your hand fisted in her shirt. Everything feels too big and hurty and you’re small. You need Mama to fix it, but you can’t find the words.
“Is she alright?” Your eyes are closed but you can hear Caitlyn coming over, and her long, cool fingers start threading through your hair.
“Hi, darling,” she murmurs, leaning down to kiss your mop of hair. “Mommy’s here. Are you okay, my sweet girl?”
You shake your head against Vi’s chest, whining, and then promptly burst into tears. You feel so icky and overwhelmed that all you can do is cry.
“Oh, my darling,” Caitlyn coos, a definite note of worry in her voice now. You feel yourself being passed from Vi’s lap into Caitlyn’s, so you cling to Mommy instead, your whole body shaking with sobs as you cry into her shirt.
Caitlyn rocks you slowly, making shushing noises, while Vi scoots closer. Vi gently takes your chin in your hand and tips your face up so that she can see you.
“Let Mama have a look at you, baby girl. What’s going on, huh?” Vi murmurs, and when you look up at her you can see that her blue eyes are full of concern. She strokes some hair out of your face, then pauses. A look of realization dawns on her face and she presses the back of her hand to your cheek. Her eyebrows raise.
“She’s burning up,” Vi informs Caitlyn, who shifts to lay her own hand on your forehead.
“Oh, sweetheart,” Caitlyn coos sadly when she feels your temperature, pulling you closer into her. “You’re not feeling well at all, are you?”
You shake your head no, still crying. You feel comforted that at least your mommies know what’s wrong now, but you’re still too upset to speak.
“Okay,” Vi says, leaning in and pressing a tender kiss to your forehead. “Okay, precious girl. Your mamas are gonna take care of you, alright? Everything’s going to be okay, bug.” She gets a tissue from a nearby box and holds it to your nose. “Can you blow for Mama?”
You blow your nose, feeling too little to care about being gross, and Vi gently cleans you up. Your tears are starting to slow now, your sobs being replaced by a bone-deep exhaustion that has you going limp against Caitlyn’s chest.
“Don’ feel gud, Mommy,” you whimper, slumping against Caitlyn. She gathers you up tighter in her arms, kissing the top of your head.
“I know, my little love, I know,” Caitlyn murmurs sympathetically, and pulls up the blanket so that it covers your shoulders. “We’ll take care of it, sweet girl. You just rest, hm? Mommy’s got you.”
You nod, relaxing against her, finally feeling safe in her arms and trusting your mommies to take care of you. You hear her murmuring something about a thermometer and medicine to Vi, but you’re too small to really pay attention.
Caitlyn continues to hold you and rock you slowly while Vi disappears out of the room. “When did this come on, hm?” Caitlyn asks gently, stroking your hair. “Have you been feeling unwell all day, darling?”
“Throat was icky this mornin’,” you mumble, feeling a little guilty now that you didn’t say anything earlier.
Caitlyn hums. “What’s our rule about when you don’t feel well, my love?” she asks, her voice soft.
You bury your face into her chest. “Always tell my mamas when don’ feel gud,” you mumble.
“That’s right,” Caitlyn affirms, still rocking you slowly. You can tell there’s no anger or disappointment in her voice, just gentle patience. “That means right away, sweetheart. As soon as something feels off, or icky, or even if you’re not sure – you tell us. So that we can take care of you, darling. We can’t do that if you don’t tell us.”
You look up at her with watery eyes. “‘m sorry, Mommy,” you say, pouting and feeling tears threaten to spill over again. “Din’ wanna bother you.”
Caitlyn’s expression is full of love and tenderness. “Oh, my sweet girl.” She cups your jaw, her thumb smoothing a stray tear off your cheek. “You are never, ever, bothering me or Mama. Never. There is nothing too big or too small for us to know about, that’s our job. To take care of you, sweetheart.” She holds your gaze, stroking your cheek. “Undersatnd?”
You nod, your chest feeling full and warm. “Yes, Mommy.”
“Good girl,” Caitlyn praises, pulling you back to rest against her with your head on her shoulder. Vi returns to the room carrying several items in her arms. You light up when you see your favorite stuffed rabbit.
“Candy!” you exclaim, making grabby hands. Vi grins and hands the stuffed animal over.
“Thought she might make you feel a little better,” Vi says, crouching down in front of you. She holds up a thermometer. “Open, baby.”
You clutch Candy to your chest and look at the device warily. “Do I hafta, Mama?”
“Yes, baby girl,” Vi says patiently. She kisses your forehead then tucks some hair behind your ear. “Mama needs to know how high this little fever is. Then you get some medicine and afterward you can have a treat, ‘kay?”
You’re still not really excited about the thermometer or medicine part of things, but the promise of a treat is enticing enough to have you opening your mouth. Vi sticks the thermometer under your tongue, then sets a timer on her phone.
When the timer goes off, Vi looks at the number, then shows it to Caitlyn. They don’t tell you what it is, but neither of them seem pleased about it, judging from their matching frowns. Vi pours a dose of the red syrup into a small plastic cup, holding it out. “Bottoms up, sweetie. Then treat time.”
You eye the medicine. “What kinda treat?”
Vi smiles softly. “Take your medicine and I’ll tell you, little one.”
You huff, which makes you cough, but you swallow down the medicine anyway. Vi hands you a glass of water to chase it down with, and you take a few gulps.
“Icky,” you declare afterward, making a face and sticking out your tongue.
“Definitely icky, but it’s going to help you feel better,” Vi says. She jumps to her feet, giving you a mischievous grin. “Ready for your treat, baby?”
You nod excitedly, and Vi heads off to the kitchen.
“I have no idea what she’s planning,” Caitlyn mutters, seemingly more to herself than you.
You giggle. “Mama always has great ideas!”
Caitlyn chuckles, stroking your hair again. She makes a noncommittal noise.
When Vi returns, it’s with your favorite bowl of the moment, a pink My Little Pony one. She settles down next to you on the couch and you excitedly grab for the bowl, looking down at the contents. There’s a generous scoop of rainbow sherbet ice cream, topped with whipped cream and gummy bears.
Vi grins. “How’s that for a treat?”
“Thank you Mama!” you chirp happily, already scooping up some ice cream and gummy bears.
Caitlyn gives a small huff. “Vi – she’s ill, she needs nutrients and –”
“I have soup heating on the stove,” Vi interrupts, giving Caitlyn a knowing look. “And I’ll give her juice and fruit. Don’t worry, cupcake. Besides, I think our baby girl has a sore throat, judging from that croaky little voice, and the ice cream will help.”
You nod in vigorous agreement, your mouth full of ice cream. Caitlyn sighs but smiles down at you anyway, picking up a tissue to clean your mouth. “Alright,” she acquiesces, rubbing your back. “I suppose it can’t hurt.”
As excited as you were about the ice cream, you only manage a few bites before your tummy feels full and you’re too tired to continue. Vi notices immediately, taking the bowl from you and setting it aside.
“Getting tired, honey?” Vi asks gently, putting the back of her hand to your cheek again. “You’re still really warm.”
You nod, coughing a little.
“Time for a rest,” Caitlyn declares. “Come here, darling.” She repositions to lay down on the couch with you on top of her.
Vi pulls the blanket up to drape warmly over you. She sits down next to the couch so that she’s at eye level with you and starts combing her fingers through your hair. Your eyes close immediately.
“Get some sleep,” Vi murmurs, pressing a kiss to your hairline. “We’ll be here, sweet girl.”
Caitlyn tightens her arms around you, humming agreement. “Rest will help you feel better.”
You cuddle in closer to your two mommies. Your head still hurts and your throat still burns, but you feel endlessly safe tucked between the two women who will always take care of you.

🌸 🌈🐣🌼🌷
You slowly blink your eyes open and see Vi smiling down at you.
“Good morning, sweet girl,” she smiles, kissing your forehead. You smile back at her, reaching out your arms for her to lift you up. She easily scoops you up into her lap and you wrap your arms around her neck, laying your head down on your shoulder.
This has long since become your morning routine with Mama. She wakes you up and then the two of you cuddle for a while, until you’re feeling awake enough to brush your teeth and get dressed. It’s one of your favorite parts of the day.
“Guess what day it is, baby?” Vi asks after she’s held you for a few minutes. She brushes a few messy strands of hair off your forehead so she can see your face.
“What, Mama?” you ask, already excited.
“The first day of spring!” she grins, lifting you off the bed and twirling you in a circle. You shriek and giggle, clinging to her. She laughs and sets you back down on the side of the bed.
“I thought we could get you dressed in your bunny onesie and go play outside today. The weather is beautiful. How does that sound, little one?” Vi asks, rubbing your back.
“Perfect!” you chirp, clapping your hands together.
Vi helps you through your morning routine, getting you dressed in a pale blue onesie that’s covered in a bunny pattern and a pair of ruffled shorts. She also insists on some sunblock, even though you whine a little when she smears the cream on your face.
Downstairs, Caitlyn is sitting at the kitchen table sipping a cup of tea, her reading glasses perched on her nose as she peers at her laptop.
When she looks up and spots you, a fond smile takes over her face. “Well aren’t you just absolutely darling,” she coos, getting up to press a kiss to your hair. She holds you at arms length so she can admire your outfit. “You look all ready for spring, little love.”
“Mama and I are going to play outside!” you exclaim, bouncing on your toes.
Caitlyn smiles, kissing you again. “That’s wonderful, sweetheart. But not without some breakfast in your tummy first.” She shoots Vi a pointed look.
“Ah, right. Breakfast,” Vi chuckles, following as Caitlyn leads you to a seat at the table. “You want eggs or waffles today, munchkin?”
You contemplate the food choices very seriously, then shrug. “Mama choose?”
“Of course. How about scrambled eggs and a side of waffles?” Vi offers, raising her eyebrows, and you nod happily.
“With some fruit,” Caitlyn adds mildly, setting a glass of water in front of you.
“With fruit,” Vi amends, chuckling a little and pulling a pan out of the cupboard. “Before you ask, I already put sunscreen on her, even though someone pouted the entire time.”
“It feels yucky,” you complain. Caitlyn gives you a soft look, tucking some hair behind your ear.
“I know it does, but it’s important to protect our little girl’s sensitive skin,” Caitlyn says. “Good job, darling.”
You nod, feeling yourself slip even deeper into littlespace at your Mommy’s soothing words.
Breakfast passes quickly, and it isn’t long before you and Vi are in the backyard. You make a beeline for the sandbox that your mamas bought you as a surprise a few weeks ago. It’s been rainy so you’ve haven’t had much of a chance to play with it.
“Ah, I had a feeling that would be the event of the day,” Vi grins, following you.
You plop down happily in the sand, already pulling the toys toward you. You pick up a shovel and dig out a scoop of sand, laughing in delight as you pour it out.
“Look, Mama!” you chirp, scooping up more sand.
“I see, babygirl,” Vi smiles, sitting down next to you. She grabs a rake and pulls it through the sand. “Ooh, look at this one.”
“Can I try?” you ask, and Vi immediately hands it over so you can rake patterns in the sand.
“Wanna build a sandcastle?” Vi asks, her eyes sparkling. You nod excitedly and she springs up to fill a bucket with water.
You’ve never built a sandcastle before, so Vi patiently shows you how. First she pours the water over a section of the sand, making it damp. Then the two of you pack the dark sand into your sandcastle mold. When you turn it upside down and carefully pull it up, you squeal delightedly when you see the castle you’ve made.
“We did it Mama! We really made a sandcastle!” you cheer, looking in awe at the structure.
“We sure did, sweetheart,” Vi says, her voice warm. When you look up at her, you see that she’s looking at you, not the sandcastle, with a look of pure love in her eyes. Your insides feel all mushy and happy.
You and Vi keep playing in the sand, building another castle, then a blob that you assure her is, in fact, a seal. Caitlyn comes out with two tall glasses of lemonade for both of you, and you sip some while sitting in the grass, enjoying the warm sun on your face.
Then Caitlyn pushes you on the swingset that Vi had built for you. You hold tight to the chains, grinning as you watch the trees and flowers beneath you grow big and small, as you swing. All your adult worries have gone away. You’re just in pure littlespace, feeling like you’re flying through the sky, but feeling safe knowing that your mamas would never let anything bad happen to you.
🌻🍀 Hello and welcome to our second Flufftober Spring Edition 🌻🍀
SURPRISE 🥰
We've decided to bring back our Spring Edition! Just like two years ago, we would like to fill two weeks in March with as much fluff as possible 💛 for that to happen, we present you with 14 prompts, some neutral, some very much spring-themed.
How does this work? 🤩
🌻 Pretty much like our regular Flufftober event in October, so check out our Standard Blog Rules and the FAQ.
🌻 Contrary to the big event, this one only runs for two weeks!
🌻 It runs from March 9th to March 22nd, so prompt 1 is NOT supposed to be posted on March 1st, but on March 9th!
Below the cut, you'll find more information and all the prompts in writing. Please read those carefully, but if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to send us asks 🥰
Friends, once again, we hope you'll show our Spring Event a lot of love. May the prompts inspire you to some fluffy creations.
We wish you a great start to the New Year, and as always
Happy Creating 🥳
Are there any Prompt Extras? 👀
🌻 No, sorry. Since this is a smaller prompt list, you won't find any official prompt extras.
🌻 However, if you really have an issue with one of the prompts, pick your favorite flower and use that as the prompt 😉 but still mention/tag the day you're using it for.
What's the tag to get reblogged? ✍️
🌻 The tag is #fluffspring2026
Make sure there is NO SPACE between fluff and spring and 2026! We will NOT be checking other variations of this tag!
🌻 It's also good to mention us: @flufftober
🌻 We try to reblog regularly, but tumblr likes to be difficult and wonky. If you're absolutely certain a post has slipped past us, please send us an ask with the link to your post.
🌻 Please make sure that all info is easy to find, either in the post or the tags. It costs us a lot of time and energy if we have to research for every other post. So, please make sure to at least include the following very clearly:
🌸 the day/prompt
🌸 the fandom(s) (add "original work" or similar if applicable)
🌸 the characters and/or ship(s) (add "oc" or similar if applicable)
What about the ao3 collection? 📝
🌻 The collection's name is Fluff Spring Edition 2026 (fluff_spring_edition_2026)
🌻 Our collections will never close, so you can always add any late entries.
Deadlines are my nemesis 🥹
Don't worry, late entries are always welcome!
🌻 Reblogs will become less regular after the event has ended.
🌻 We will stop checking the event tag after a few months, so please make sure to tag us: @flufftober

You hug your stuffed alpaca named Snowcone to your chest, nuzzling your face into the soft fur. The feeling of the plushie’s fur against your skin helps ground you a little bit, your heart rate slowing down slightly.
Vi sits down on the couch next you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you tight against her side. “You nervous, sweetheart?” she asks, kissing the top of your hair. “You’re squeezing Snowcone so tight his eyes might pop out.”
You nod, then relax your grip on your stuffie to check that Snowcone’s eyes aren’t actually popping out, even though you’re pretty sure Vi is kidding.
“It’s perfectly normal to be a little nervous before a playdate,” Caitlyn says calmly, sitting down on your other side. She tips your face up, and kisses your forehead, her lips soft and gentle against your skin. “But you have absolutely nothing to worry about, my darling girl. I’m sure you and Jinx will have a wonderful time.”
“Yeah, there’s no pressure, hon,” Vi chimes in, rubbing your back. “You guys can just color together or watch cartoons, if you don’t feel up to playing together. It’s whatever you want, okay? There’s no right or wrong here.”
You look up at her with big eyes. “But what if I don’t know what to say? Or what if she wants to play a game I don’t know how to play? Or if I mess up and do something weird and then she never wants to play with me ever again and I never have any Little friends because I’m bad at having friends?”
The last question comes out in one big rush, your words tumbling together. Vi’s expression softens, and she slows her circles on your back to long, soothing strokes. “Shh, baby girl. Big breath for Mama, okay?”
She takes an exaggerated breath in and you follow, the both of you blowing out air in tandem. Vi smiles encouragingly at you and instructs you to do it again. After a few rounds of slow breathing, you start to feel calmer, the anxiety loosening its grip around your chest.
Caitlyn kisses your forehead again. “Those are a lot of very big worries for such a small little girl,” she coos sympathetically, her sapphire eyes tender as she holds your gaze. “But your mommies are going to be here the whole time, darling. You’re being such a brave girl by having a playdate with a new friend, even though it makes you anxious. How about we choose some activities for you and Jinx to do, to get your mind off things, hmm?”
Caitlyn strokes your hair softly, and Vi gives you an encouraging smile. “Jinx loves board games,” Vi says gently. “Wanna pick some out so you have options? Maybe we could go get some more stuffies in case you need extra players.”
You nod tentatively. Vi holds out her hand, and you slip your hand in hers, letting her tug you up. The two of you head to the activity shelf in the corner of the living room that holds your games and toys, and you start picking out some things you might want to play with.
Your mind drifts away from your anxiety as you and Vi set things up. You end up picking out Candyland and Chutes and Ladders as board game options, and you also get out your coloring supplies. Caitlyn brings a few more of your favorite stuffed animals downstairs and you happily line them up on the couch, grinning at how cute they look together.
But when the doorbell suddenly rings, the loud sound startles you and sends your heart pounding all over again.
You grab Snowcone, holding him tight to your chest, and scramble to hide behind your mommy. Vi chuckles softly, tousling your hair. “It’s okay, sweetheart, that’s just Jinx. I’ll get it.”
While Vi heads to the door, you cling to Caitlyn’s arm, tucking most of your body away behind hers. Caitlyn turns to look at you, her expression soft. “It’s alright to be nervous, love. Let’s just do some introductions.”
Jinx bounds into the house as soon as Vi opens the door. Peeking out from behind Caitlyn, you can see that Jinx has bright blue hair divided into two long braids, and is wearing a pair of rainbow leggings that definitely do not match her neon green hoodie, which is covered in a turtle pattern. But you like the brightness of it all, and you bite down on a small smile.
“Hi hi, I’m sooo excited, I brought ten coloring books, can you believe I even fit them all in here? Daddy helped me pack,” Jinx says in an excited rush, holding up a backpack that’s shaped like a shark.
“That’s pretty impressive, kiddo,” Vi chuckles. “I’ve got her, thanks Ekko!” she calls to someone in a car on the street. It must be Jinx’s daddy.
Before you can blink, Jinx is at your side, holding out a hand. “Hii I’m Jinx! Nice to meet ya!”
You bury your face in Caitlyn’s shoulder and shrink back, squeaking softly.
“Someone’s feeling a little shy,” Caitlyn explains gently, and you’re thankful that your mommy sounds understanding, not annoyed. “How about we get started with some coloring, hm? And we’ll put on a cartoon as well, so you all can have something familiar on. You like Bluey, right Jinx?”
“I love Bluey!” Jinx exclaims, bouncing on her toes. “It’s okay to be shy,” she says, plopping down on the floor and unzipping her backpack. “I talk a lot so it’s okay if you don’t. I’m just happy to have a little friend to play with! I like playing with Daddy but he gets boring sometimes. And Bubba never lets me do anything fun.”
Vi raises an eyebrow and shakes her head with a laugh. “I let you do plenty of fun things, bug. I just don’t let you injure yourself. Or set the house on fire.”
“Pshh, that was one time,” Jinx waves a dismissive hand, setting an enormous box of crayons on the coffee table. “It was barely even a fire.”
“Yes, well, we will be having zero fires today, thank you,” Caitlyn says, gently guiding you over to where Jinx is. She sits down on the floor cross-legged and opens her arms. “Want to come sit in Mommy’s lap and color, my darling?”
You bite your lip, hesitating. But Jinx doesn’t seem so scary now that she’s scribbling away in a Ninja Turtles themed coloring book, and Vi has already turned on Bluey. So you inch over and sit down in Caitlyn’s lap, letting her wrap her warm arms around you. You feel immediately comforted and relax back into her.
Soon, you and Jinx are sharing crayons, and you’ve colored half of a page out of your Winnie-the-Pooh book. You shyly peek over at Jinx’s coloring, eyes widening when you take in the rainbow of neon colors filling her page.
“I like your clouds,” you say quietly, pointing toward the bright pink clouds Jinx has added to the page.
Jinx turns to you, grinning. “Thanks! I like your coloring too! Tigger looks really good.”
That makes you smile and you return to your coloring, feeling a little less shy now. Caitlyn rubs your back encouragingly, pressing a kiss to the top of your hair.
After coloring, your mamas suggest a game of Candyland. You and Jinx set it up together, giggling when you decide to use some of your ponies as players, instead of the little plastic figures that come with the game. Jinx makes neighing noises every time she moves her bright blue pony, which makes you crack up every time, and soon the game has devolved into a pony adventure instead of the board game you’re supposed to be playing.
When you look up at Caitlyn and Vi, they’re both watching you with matching fond smiles on their faces, which makes your chest feel all mushy and happy.
Caitlyn smooths a hand over your hair, then stands. “I think I’ll go put a load of laundry in. You can supervise, Vi?”
Vi nods with a grin. “I can handle the monsters, go ahead, cupcake.” Caitlyn smiles and heads out of the room.
“Mamaaa, we’re not monsters!” you complain, although you’re grinning.
Vi raises an eyebrow. “Oh, you aren’t? Then you better watch out for…the tickle monster!!”
Both you and Jinx squeal and try to escape but Vi catches one of you in each arm and proceeds to tickle you relentlessly. You shriek and giggle, squirming in your mama’s arms, Jinx doing the same. The living room is filled with the sounds of squealing and Vi’s playful growling, until she finally relents and lets you two free. Both you and Jinx are giggling hard, and there’s a bright smile on Vi’s face.
“That’s mean, Mama,” you pout, crossing your arms and giving her as stern a look as you can manage.
“Yeah!” Jinx chimes in, grinning. “You owe us now, Bubba.”
“Uh oh, the littles are mad,” Vi smirks, holding up her hands in mock defeat. “How can I pay for my crimes? Please tell me.”
You and Jinx share a look, then simultaneously exclaim, “Snacks!!”.
Vi chuckles, running a hand through her messy hair. “Of course, snacks. I think that’s a fair payment. Let’s get this cleaned up, then we’ll have a snack in the kitchen, ‘kay?”
Motivated by the promise of snacks, you and Jinx clean up quickly and then follow Vi into the kitchen. She gets you both settled at the kitchen table, then starts looking through the cabinets.
“How’s cheese and crackers sound, little ones?” Vi asks, holding up a box of Ritz crackers. “With some fruit on the side.”
“Yummy, Mama!” you smile, clapping your hands, and Jinx nods her enthusiasm as well.
Vi has just pulled out the cheese from the fridge when Caitlyn suddenly appears in the doorway, a harried look on her face.
“Vi, the washing machine –” she says quickly, panting slightly. “It’s making this horrid noise and there are bubbles everywhere. Can you come take a look?”
“Ooh sounds like fun!” Jinx exclaims, sitting up straighter. “Can we come too?”
“No.” Caitlyn and Vi answer simultaneously.
Jinx and you pout at each other. “They’re no fun,” Jinx whispers to you conspiratorally, and you giggle with a nod.
Vi puts down the cheese, dusting her hands off on her pants. She turns and gives you and Jinx a stern look. “You two, wait for me. I’ll make your snack when I get back. No cooking.” Then she turns and hurriedly follows Caitlyn toward the laundry room.
You and Jinx exchange another look. “I’m hungry,” Jinx announces, hopping off her chair and heading toward the fridge. “I bet Bubba won’t mind if we just grab something in the meantime.”
“I don’t know…” you bite your lip, warily watching Jinx pull a package of grapes out of the fridge and nearly drop it. “She told us to wait for her.”
“She said no cooking,” Jinx drawls, popping a grape into her mouth. “This isn’t cooking. It’s eating.”
You slip out of your chair, coming over to Jinx. She does have a point…sort of. You eat a grape too, and Jinx grins at you.
You’re not exactly sure when the flour gets involved. All you know is, one second you and Jinx are trading grapes, and then before you know it, there’s flour all over the floor, eggs dripping off the counters, and chocolate syrup in your hair.
“It’s like snow!” Jinx yells, throwing a handful of flour in the air and spinning in a circle as it floats down all around her.
“I’m making a snow angel!” you giggle, laying flat on the tile floor and wiggling your arms and legs. “Look, did I do it?”
“Yeah, you did!” Jinx gives you a high five, bouncing on her toes. “Maybe we should go get some glitter, then it could be glitter snow.”
Your eyes go wide. “Ooh good idea! I have pink and blue and –”
“What. Is. Happening.”
Oh no. You swallow hard. You’ve never heard Vi’s voice sound like that before.
You turn around slowly.
Vi’s standing in the doorway, her arms crossed firmly across her chest, her mouth a thin, tight line. You can’t immediately tell if she’s more shocked or angry, her eyes wide as she takes in the veritable disaster that the kitchen has become.
“I told you,” Vi says through gritted teeth, her tone deadly calm. “To wait. For me. What the hell did you two do?”
Yeah, you’re gonna go with angry.
“We were just going to make brownie batter, Bubba,” Jinx says, her manic energy dimming slightly at the thunderous look on Vi’s face. “Not cook it, like you said.”
“The flour was heavy and it spilled,” you chime in, biting your lip. “We’re real sorry, Mama.”
Vi lets out a long, deep sigh and pinches the bridge of her nose, shaking her head. “Cait!” she hollers over her shoulder. “I need your help!”
Caitlyn appears quickly, then shudders to a halt as she takes in the scene. Her gaze flicks from the egg-covered counters, to the flour all over the floor, then to the goo that you and Jinx are currently covered in from head to toe.
“Time out,” Caitlyn says crisply, pointing to the living room. “Both of you. Right now.”
“But Mommy –” you start to complain, pouting, but she cuts you off.
“I don’t want to hear it,” Caitlyn says firmly, holding up a hand. Her tone is sharp, her eyes even more so. “Time out. Now.” She points, waiting for you and Jinx to move.
Sheepishly, you and Jinx shuffle out of the kitchen and into the living room. You stand in the middle of the room, neither of you saying anything. Caitlyn follows and directs the two of you to sit down at opposite ends of the room.
“Five minutes,” Caitlyn says firmly, setting a timer on her phone. “No whining, no moving, or we start it again. You’ll sit there and think about what you’ve done.”
You pout and cross your arms, giving a huff. But when Caitlyn gives you a sharp warning look, you look down, quieting. She’s clearly not in a mood to mess around.
The five minutes seem to take forever, especially with nothing to do to help pass the time. You can hear Vi moving around in the kitchen, cleaning up, but Caitlyn stays seated on the couch, watching you and Jinx with eagle eyes. When the timer on her phone goes off, your shoulders drop an inch with relief.
Caitlyn beckons you and Jinx over to the couch and the two of you sit down on either side of her.
“Now,” Caitlyn says calmly, folding her hands in her lap. “Why did I put you in time out, little ones?” She looks at you and Jinx.
“Because we made a mess,” you mumble, looking down at your toes. “‘n didn’t listen to Mama.”
“That’s correct,” she nods. She turns to Jinx. “And what should you have done instead?”
“Waited for Bubba to make us food,” Jinx sighs, twirling a bracelet on her wrist.
“Mhm,” Caitlyn hums, nodding again. “Vi and I are in charge. That means when we give you a rule, we expect it to be followed.”
“I’m sorry, Mommy,” you say, your voice going wobbly now. You blink hard, your eyes burning. You hate it when your mommy is upset with you. “We’ll listen next time, promise.”
Caitlyn’s expression softens slightly, and she reaches for a tissue from the box on the table. She blots away the tears off your cheeks, then kisses the top of your hair.
“I know you’re sorry, darling,” Caitlyn says, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear. “But it’s Vi you need to apologize to, not me. Then you can help clean up, and all will be forgiven, alright?”
You nod, sniffling a little. Caitlyn tucks your hand in hers and leads you and Jinx back into the kitchen. When you spot Vi, in the middle of wrestling with the mop, you and Jinx throw yourselves at her almost simultaneously.
“I’m sorry Mama!” you exclaim, burying your face in her shoulder.
“I was bad and it was my idea,” Jinx blubbers, clinging to Vi’s waist. “I’m sorry, Bubba.”
You can feel Vi’s tense muscles relaxing underneath you, and she sets the mop aside so that she can wrap both of you up in your arms. She plants matching kisses on the top of your heads.
“I forgive you, both of you,” Vi says, rubbing your back. “Mistakes happen. Just promise to listen to what I say next time, okay?”
You look up, your cheeks wet with tears again. “I promise Mama.”
Vi smiles softly at you, wiping away your tears with her thumbs. “That’s my good girl,” she murmurs, kissing your forehead, then Jinx’s. “Okay. You two are gonna help clean up this big mess.”
It turns out that cleaning up flour is a lot less fun than throwing it everywhere, but it goes by fast with all four of you working together. By the time the kitchen is cleaned up, it’s time for Jinx to go home.
“I had a lot of fun playing with you!” Jinx says, giving you a tight hug. “Even if we got in trouble.”
“Me too,” you say. “Maybe you could come back and play another time?” you ask, a little shy.
“Yeah, that would be awesome!” Jinx nods vigorously. “I’ll bring my dinosaur figures next time and we can play Jurassic Park.”
“Sounds cool!” You grin and clap your hands together. “And I can show you my Play-Doh next time too.”
“You two have a lot of fun things to do together,” Vi smiles, throwing Jinx’s shark backpack over her shoulder. “But right now I need to drive J home before dinner time. You guys can play again soon, promise.”
Vi walks Jinx out to the car, and you settle on the couch in Caitlyn’s lap. She wraps her arms around you, holding you close and brushing her nose through your hair.
“Did you have fun today, little love?” Caitlyn asks, smoothing a hand down your side.
You break into a big smile, looking up at her. “I really did, Mommy. I think…I think I made a new friend.”
She beams back at you, her blue eyes sparkling with love. “I’m so proud of you, my darling.” She kisses your cheek then stands, offering out a hand. “Now let’s get you in the bath. You are quite sticky.”
You follow your mommy off to the bathroom with your hand wrapped warmly in hers.

Sheepishly, you and Jinx shuffle out of the kitchen and into the living room. You stand in the middle of the room, neither of you saying anything. Caitlyn follows and directs the two of you to sit down at opposite ends of the room.
