Suo’s reaction to Sakura’s backstory confession plagues me a bit

I know this is meant as “You can leave the past behind and be here with all of us now,” but the way it’s worded is interesting.

Right now, this is where you are.

Other people have hypothesized that Suo’s backstory has something to do with him being on borrowed time with his friends/knowing he’ll leave Furin and this lands uncomfortably close to that theory.

It’s so different from how everyone else reacts. We get a lot of “it must have been hard/proud of you/happy you’re here” from the others. And they reach out physically to touch Sakura. Even the other grade captains who he doesn’t actually know that well. Whereas it feels (to me at least?) like Suo is keeping himself at a reserve in this scene compared to some of their other interactions.

And they gave us literally SO many character backgrounds in one arc with Noroshi. But not Suo’s 👀 which implies that it needs an arc of its own.
