“spider girl?” she scoffed a bit, but she was interested. her last experience with muggle comics was fun, she liked the stories even if the pictures didn’t move. maybe someday a wizard would make wizard comics that did move, that would be fascinating too. 

“yeah! like spider man, only spider girl you know? it’s awesome. i love a good comic.” she smiled, closing it up to pass it along to marlene to take a look at it should she want to. “you ever read comics?”

“you’re insane,” dirk called out at daisy, though it didn’t stop him from walking along the perimeter of the whomping willow. daisy was probably just a little braver than he was, probably a little closer. it was like a game to them, doing reckless shit for each other’s entertainment, had been ever since dirk dropped a piece of candy on the (very disgusting) floors of the hogwarts express and someone dared him to eat it. he did, though it was a bit fuzzy, to be honest. now, they had elevated all the way up to here. “certifiable! i’m not going to heal you if the tree gets you!”

“this surprise you still?” she questioned with a laugh. daisy had missed dirk quite a bit. it was fun to hang out with him in herbology club, though she was even more excited that she’d gotten him to join her on this little adventure of hers. it’d been a dream of hers to attempt to climb the whomping willow since her very first year. and now just seemed to feel like the right time. “hey that’s not nice, that’s the whole reason i even brought you!” she teased playfully. “it’s gonna be amazing, don’t you worry.”

he listened to what she said but couldn’t picture it, wondering how much like a broom it might be. “umm, yeah actually. i’d love to see it go.” he moved out of the way, a hand on his chin, curious.

“oh! well sure! you can give it a go as well if you’d like.” daisy placed the board on the ground. she placed the foot that wasn’t on the board onto the ground ahead of her to gain some speed, but careful not to go to far. with a smooth pivot she was back by his side. “normally you know you kick up quite a bit more speed of course, but yeah that’s the gist of it.”

evan looked up only for a few moments to see who was sitting in front of him before his gaze returned to the parchment on the table. “may i ask why?”

evan was so serious at the moment. was that a quality required of head boy? or was that just ole evan being evan? “hiding from some first years.” daisy picked up the book opening to the middle to hide her face between the pages.

“i mean he gets just as excited as me about coming back. i can’t take his exploration adventures away from him. he wouldn’t take kindly to me cooping him up either. but then, maybe there is some truth to that.”

daisy eyes narrowed at amycus with a smirk, “huck is a beige color, with a dark brown face and bright blue eyes. he’s impressively hard to miss among all the other creatures.”

marlene paused as daisy spoke, she wasn’t about to get bitten by some weird plant so she’d heed the girls words about the spiky bushes. marlene hated herbology, but mostly because she was so so terrible at it so while she admired the art of it all she would never admit it. “why plant them on the path, merlin.” she said quietly, exasperated. “hi daisy, what is that?” she pointed to the book in the girls hands, she half recognized it but it was worth asking.

daisy smiled at the way marlene would get straight to the point. she admired that about marlene, slowly taking a fancy to the girl this years in ways she hadn’t in years previous. of course, not that she had anything against marlene, it was only that they hadn’t run into each other all that much, save the quidditch pitch. “i think they overgrew over the summer holiday.” daisy shrugged softly. “it’s a comic, spider girl to be exact.”

he grinned, admiring the piece of muggle — technology? he didn’t know for sure, he’d not been allowed to steal a glance previously but now he could examine. “what is it?” he asked earnestly, his heart racing the entire time because this was new, this was — exciting despite his prolonged melancholy. 

daisy was definitely going to consider that smile a big win, hers brightening with it. people weren’t always in the mood to appreciate her jokes which she could understand, so there was a bit of happy surprised involved whenever a fellow student was receptive. “it’s a skateboard! you ride around on the board part, pushing yourself with one foot on the ground to propel yourself. i can show you if you like?”

today had been a busy today for evan, to say the least – now, being a head boy, he had more duties than ever and the end of the day, he was exhausted. still, the boy enjoyed keeping himself busy and no matter how tired he got, he wouldn’t let this affect his work. evan was sat down on one of the empty tables at the library, writing down a report. it was already quite late, almost curfew hours. he felt someone sitting down next to him but his gaze remained focused on the parchment on the table as he was writing. “can i help you?” evan asked, assuming there’d be another problem to deal with it as today was quite eventful, between problems on the pitch, a prefect accused of abusing power, second years fighting and a fifth year flooding one of the bathrooms. 

daisy missed her younger siblings and so over the years she’d taken a liking to spending time with the first years. and one of her favorite activities within the first couple of weeks was to teach them one of her favorite games, hide and seek in the library. seeing evan rosier, she had a quick thought, sitting across from him. when he had asked his question daisy looked upon the table, seeing a book that looked unused, for at least the moment anyway. “oh, yes um, can i borrow this for a sec?” she questioned.

The pile of books was almost covering Rita’s face, her latest in books for studying, for entertainment, whatever else she found herself interested in. One fell and with a soft, whispered, “Merde,” the rest fell as well. The only half decent thing about the situation was that her diary was put away in her bag, carefully hidden from everyone else. It was too early in the school year to start drama. Maybe next month. It would be her birthday present to herself. With a small sigh, she crouched down, picking up the fallen books.

daisy’s eyes widened as she watched the books tumble down. instinctually she moved to help pick up a few as she noticed it was rita who had once been beneath them all. daisy chuckled as she watched the books topple to the ground, “lucky they didn’t fall on you at least.” she chortled, moving to pick up a couple.

’ do we ? the only thing i learned from this is that i made a new friend, didn’t you see how excited the willow was to see us?’ she teased lightly as she lets the rug fall from her hands onto the floor. ‘ i actually think we should pay it another visit soon, don’t you thin, so, daisy? maybe we can have a midnight walk and just enjoy the company of the willow. they can’t tell me who to make friends with, right? they’re all about us making sure we find the best of friends in hogwarts.’

daisy giggled at dorcas’ words, nearly keeling over as they filled up her chest. this was one of the many reasons why she enjoyed dorcas so much. “okay, i totally hear you. challenge accepted from the willow to truly befriend it. all about it for sure.” daisy sighed, looking at all the trophies left to be dusted yet. they couldn’t exactly just leave them all dusty, but daisy was already feeling the boredom of the activity overwhelm her. “you know, it really is silly they don’t leave anyone to watch us actually dust. it’s like, they don’t know us at all.”

rabastan loved rain, the sound, the rage, followed by a burst of life. it called to him he supposed and he got caught in a sudden storm, hiding out in a covered area near the castle. he was just barely damp, heading back toward the castle and lost in thought when he was suddenly attacked, sort of. the body flying at him made him flinch but on instinct he didn’t put up his hands. he was relieved he hadn’t been hit and let out the breath he was holding. “right, just in time too.” he was half sour, half joking somehow.

daisy realized quickly who it was she’d almost run into. she’d heard all the murmurs, rumors, and the like about him but she didn’t think a single thing of it, only interested in going of off what was presented to her first hand. she chuckled, “well i guess there’s a reason why i’m not allowed to board through the halls, but i’ve clearly perfected my ‘just in time’ skills over the summer holiday.” again, she laughed at her own joke. “sorry if i gave you a start though.”
