Athena offered Dorcas a soft smile, and nodded in agreement. “You are truly a genius. They say most geniuses do their best work at night as well, so you’re definitely in the running,” Athena never slept too well so Doe’s late night texts didn’t bother her too much. It was difficult to sleep when you owned as many animals as Athena did, never mind having so much work to catch up on. “Raven is a needy little thing. People who say that cats aren’t as affectionate as dogs clearly have never met Raven. As soon as I’m through the door she’s rubbing against my ankles begging for attention.”

Athena reached out to place her hand gently on Doe’s shoulder with a beaming smile. “Well I’ll answer whatever texts you want to send me. They’re always so interesting, I feel like I learn a lot from you.”

‘Oh, like owls!’ the girl quickly quipped with an idea and her eyes widened in excitement. She felt bad sometimes, when she would text people and she would wake them up-especially Regulus since he would often get mad and it would make her feel bad. But, with people like Athena assuring her it is okay, she kind of smiled. ‘Oooh, I know! I want a cat so bad- now that I have a room mate, I need to convince him badly.’

She chuckles and nods. ‘ Thank you.’ the other said with a smile.’ You’re a great friend, Athena. And I am super excited to follow you in this group’s adventures to come!’

It was difficult to hold a conversation on campus, especially on days like this where so many students were all around them. Lily quickly returned the embrace, affectionately squeezing back before using the contact to gently move Dorcas to one side. She hadn’t missed the scowls sent in their direction for blocking the path but Lily only smiled sweetly back (admittedly, the sweetness was a mostly passive-aggressive tool picked up from family dinners with Petunia).

“Thank you for that! Harry loves anything that makes a noise, though he isn’t really the best at playing yet,” Lily said truthfully, though she was grateful all the same. “I think James and I are mostly playing with the toys at this point and Harry’s wondering what on earth we’re doing. So … not so different from yours and Reg’s friendship, by the sounds of it,” she quipped at the end, smiling to herself. “I’m looking forward to classes … sort of. It’s probably going to be a difficult semester, what with Harry at home. What about you?”

She would often forget where she was and how much her presence is affecting others.If it was not for the redhead, she would have remained in the middle of the crowd without realising- alas, right now she felt a little bad and looked at the people around with an apologetical smile as they stepped away. She moved a hand through her messy curls and hummed at the other’s words. ‘ Well, I know- but, you never know how much those toys could actually affect them in life when they grow up.’ She rambles on. ‘ Oh, sorry- read it in a book that somehow kids have a selective memory of it or what not, the brain is kind of crazy if you think about it.But, yes! You are right, it really is no different.’ the younger girl quickly placed a hand on the other’s shoulder.’ If you ever need someone to babysit, let me know okay? I would be more than happy to help in any way I can, so do not hesitate to ask. Ever.’

Dorcas moving boxes around was a sight to behold, and a terrifying one at that. Regulus had at least had the help (and height) to manage several boxes up the stairs at once, but each time Dorcas’ pile wobbled, it took effort to restrain himself from reaching out and simply taking the boxes from her. She was capable, obviously he knew that, but no matter how nonchalant Regulus wanted to act toward Dorcas and her affections, he was constantly worried about her. She didn’t eat like she should, didn’t sleep like she should, and couldn’t keep a plant alive to save her (or its) life. Hopefully with him living with her full time, the last one could be resolved rather quickly, if not the first two as well.

The boxes almost toppled as Dorcas reached to catch her phone, and he winced automatically, surprised when there wasn’t a crashing sound to follow it. He opened his eyes and saw her cheery smile, shaking his head and nudging her lightly as he headed toward their front door. “You’re going to give me a heart attack, Doe, and it’s day zero of living together. Please don’t drop anything or hurt yourself carrying more than you should.”

Dorcas was not the most organized person when it came to herself- if she had to do something for someone, it was always so much easier to do. But, in cases like this? When she had to carry her own boxes and take care of her own belongings, she found it a little hard to take care of properly. ‘Why, are you being worried about me?’ she quickly chirped as he talked, teasing as always- but, the girl quickly followed after him towards the door so she can get the rest. ‘ Well, then you should have said this when we started hours ago! I already fell down the stairs twice and might have broke one box.’ And everything inside it- but, it wasn’t anything a little bit...fixabale. She indeed had a few bruises on the back of her arm from the fall, but she sported it like a champ, so she took lead before him and skipped down the stairs. ‘ Plus, I don’t have much left, so do not worry!’

“Dorcas!” Athena called out from across the small meeting room they’d hired out for today’s meeting. It was their first since school had started up again, and Athena was already raring to get started in campaigning. Their activism had meant that the campus as a whole now offered way more vegan options, and that was just the beginning of what was possible. Hopping over a chair to reach her friend, Athena couldn’t help but grin as she thought on Dorcas’ texts from the night before. “How on Earth did you figure out bar-codes scan the white bit? It’s baffled me. I meant to reply last night, I was awake because Raven was sitting on my head as she does, but then she shifted from my head onto my phone. Fidgety little thing.”

“Y’know, your texts are sometimes the highlight of my day. You’re brilliant, if a little…eccentric.”

Doe smiled widely as she heard the other call her name- she knew why she was standing around and not leaving just yet. She stops by a chair and chuckles when the other reaches her. ‘ How did I figure it out? Honestly- randomly; just thinking about it randomly and then I researched about it and that...just happened to be truth! It happens to most geniuses.’ she jokes lightly. ‘ Aww, Raven’s a sweetheart that I do let to be the reasons for not responding to texts.’ her smiled only widens at the thought of that.

‘ Oh my- really?! Athena, you’re too kind, really-’ the dark-haired girl feels herself chuckle yet again.’-that will only make me want to send you some more texts.’

WHO: @meadxowes WHERE: Student Activity Fair, August 27th

Lily grinned as she caught sight of the familiar mess of dark curls across the fair. She hurried towards Dorcas, not wanting to miss her here. Lily couldn’t really hunt her all over campus, not today when she wanted to get back to Harry. If she lost sight of Dorcas amongst the crowd, that’d be it. The amount of students the week before classes was always intense.

Stepping up behind her, Lily relished the chance to surprise Dorcas for once instead of the other way around. “Excuse me, don’t suppose you’re the reclusive genius Dorcas Meadowes by any chance? I heard you once stumped Slughorn himself with your powers of mind.” Lily winked as Dorcas turned around, feeling slightly out of practise at seeing friends again. Her life had been compressed into the small apartment she shared with James (and now Harry) for the past few weeks. “I promise, I wasn’t ignoring your texts, but the only reason I’m awake at 3am these days is screaming baby. Otherwise, I sleep.” Lily shrugged apologetically, though she still shot an amused grin at Dorcas. “There were some pretty good ones, though.”

The dark-haired girl turned her head around as soon as she heard someone be so close to her- she did not look around much as she was walking to begin with; she was mostly just trying to contain everything as she talked with a few people here and there. Despite her being a people’s person- the crowds tend to swallow her whole. Her eyes bummed out of her head and she smiled widely. ‘ Lily! I haven’t seen you in ages!’ the girl quickly wrapped the redhead in a hug, smiling widely as she did so.

‘Oh, no no, do not apologise! Little Harry is more important. Speaking of, did he like the toy I shipped to y’all a few days ago? Everytime I see something cute, I just have to get it for him.’ she then moves a hand through her hair. ‘ Thank you! Reg hated them, apparently waking him up with my intelligence is annoying. How are you though? Doing good?’

Moving was never fun. Regulus had hated it each year when he’d stayed in the dorms on campus, and even more when he’d leave said dorms with more clutter than he’d arrived with. It was a tedious chore of going through his belongings, deciding what would and would not stay with him, tossing junk out, and getting sentimental over the smallest things. This time wasn’t too much different, save for one detail: this was a permanent move. He and Dorcas had finally gotten a flat together after years of talking about it, and now it was finally happening. Regulus wasn’t sure if he was nervous or excited, or both, but either way he was ready.

He had to give props to his brother for helping bring his stuff over to the place, no matter how much they disagreed on things. Their parents hadn’t been thrilled that he was moving out, but then again, they hardly approved of anything he or Sirius did. Regulus brought one of the last boxes up to their flat and set it down on the kitchen counter with a thump, wiping at his brow and looking around the place. A bit messy, but it would come together. “Doe, you almost done? We’ve still got to set the place up.”

Doe’s back hurt. From all the carrying and moving around- making sure everything is in the right place as she knew she won’t be able to take out everything in one day. But, despite Regulus’ relationship with his brother- she didn’t have anyone who came to help. Although, she was still cheerful and ready to move mountains if needed. She was carrying two boxes on top of each other, her phone on top of them and slightly on the side-- not falling yet however.

She could barely see where she was going, but she was walking with purpose to place it by the kitchen counter. ‘I think there’s like two boxes left and that’s it--’ she announces as she struggles to place the boxes down which ends up in her phone falling down and the top box almost falling and her catching it just in time. She straightens herself with a smile and claps her hands. ‘ But, it’ll come together soon!’
