Severus Snape Headcanons for my fic
-Sev is autistic. When he was little he was nonverbal and he started actually talking when he was 7
-his magic often went haywire when he was angry or had a strong sense of emotion when he was younger. This got him expelled from primary school so eileen homeschooled him
-bisexual, intersex, demisexual, prefers he/they but doesn’t really care
-loves classical muggle books. The gang makes fun of him for it
-every time fights go bad at home, sev would go to lily’s house but since they stopped being friends he got a summer job at 16 or 17 just to have an excuse to leave the house
-was mistaken as a girl when he was younger and was bullied not being masculine
-tutors regulus in potions
Well, without meaning to sound rude, not really in all cases.
I’ve never headcanoned Severus as autistic, although I understand why a lot of people do and I don’t have any issue with those interpretations. The accidental magic thing is something that could have happened, although I personally lean more towards the idea that his parents simply didn’t care much about his education, considering the era and the environment he grew up in. We have to remember that Severus came from a very deprived background at a time when children dropping out of school wasn’t exactly unusual. You have to look at it in context. However, there are other headcanons that really don’t work for me.
I have no problem with headcanoning him as bisexual because I always say that every character can be bisexual until canon proves otherwise, and honestly I can ship him with both men and women. But I have no idea where the intersex headcanon or the idea that he uses they/them pronouns comes from. Severus is a boomer bloke from the 1960s; I genuinely think if you started talking to him about pronouns he’d just give you the most profoundly sceptical look imaginable. And I think he identified quite strongly with being a man. A man not conforming to patriarchal ideals of masculinity or traditional gender stereotypes doesn’t mean he doesn’t identify with his gender.
I can’t see Severus working in any Muggle profession. I think he would simply dissociate, bury himself in his studies, or focus on developing spells.
Platonic Snily only works for me if it’s portrayed as dysfunctional and realistically unhealthy, because they were both more toxic to each other than Chernobyl and their friendship was a complete mess.
Snulciber isn’t canon. I don’t see them together and I don’t like the ship. Platonically? Sure, absolutely. Beyond that, no.
