WHOS DRIVIN THIS BUS?🗣️🗣️🗣️
౨ৎ pairing : rodrick heffley x regina george
౨ৎ blurb : after her break up with aaron, regina and rodrick share a drunk late night confession.
౨ৎ notes : forgot to post this yesterday T^T here it is, enjoy !
°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
the music blasted throughout karens house, her halloween party seemed to be going amazing for everyone there. well, except for one particular person.
regina was leaned against the kitchen counter, a half forgotten drink dangling from her hand.
tonight, though, the universe had a sense of humor.
aaron.
her ex boyfriend. her perfectly flawed, too good for her but still hurtful aaron. he’d broken up with her in front of half the school, casually tossing her out of his life like she was a pair of last seasons shoes. regina had smiled, politely, as if she didn’t care. she’d even laughed a little, which had surprised everyone, including herself. but inside, she was dying.
she downed the last of her drink and poured herself another.
“regina!” someone shouted from somewhere across the room. she didn’t even look up. the voices, the laughter, the flashing lights, it was all just background noise.
and then she felt a tap on her shoulder.
“rodrick?” he was leaning against the fridge with that lazy half smirk of his.
rodrick heffley had a reputation. lazy, sarcastic, incredibly annoying to anyone who took school seriously.
“hey,” he said, shrugging. “you look.. miserable.”
“miserable? that’s new.” she rolled her eyes, but the corner of her mouth twitched despite her best efforts. “you know what else is new? aaron dumping me like i’m his leftovers from the other night.”
rodrick snorted. “sounds rough.”
“rough? that’s like calling getting hit by a bus ‘slightly inconvenient.’” she gestured wildly with her cup, spilling a bit of vodka on the counter. “i mean, seriously, i’m regina fucking george. i don’t get dumped.”
rodrick laughed, a short, sharp sound that made her flinch. and there it was again; that infuriating charm he had.
“you know..” he said after a moment. “you’re allowed to be a little.. human about it.”
regina froze. human. that word didn’t belong in her vocabulary.
before she could respond, her mind flashed back to a few months ago.
──── ୨୧ ────
it was during gym class and regina had unfortunately been partnered with rodrick for a 2 person exercise.
“i never thought i’d be stuck with you for something like this.”
regina rolled her eyes. “lucky you. try not to screw it up.”
“you’re not exactly a joy to work with either.”
and then, while regina was stretching, he'd brushed a strand of hair off her face. it didn’t register at first, but she felt.. strange. neither of them said anything after that, of course. they'd finished and went back to their separate social orbits.
but for weeks afterwards, she couldn’t stop thinking about it. the fleeting touch. the smirk. the way it made her feel.
──── ୨୧ ────
regina blinked, shaking her head. “what’s wrong with me?” she muttered to herself. rodrick leaned closer.
“stop looking at me like that." she said, and he laughed. that laugh. the one she’d been thinking about a little too much lately.
the party was in full swing now. people were dancing, screaming over music and spilling drinks. regina tried to adjust to the chaos, but the alcohol was starting to make her wobbly, like her control over her body was slipping.
rodrick stared at her with his arms crossed.
hes had feelings for her before, though he'd never admit to them. but seeing her like this over some guy? it made his blood boil.
“you need water." he said, taking the half filled cup out of her hand.
“i need more vodka.” she countered, smirking through the haze. “water’s boring. water doesn’t make you forget that aaron is an asshole.”
“yeah, okay, so keep drinking. that’s totally gonna fix it.”
she leaned against him briefly for balance, and he stiffened for a second.
“you’re annoying." she said, though her voice had softened.
“uh huh." he muttered under his breath.
as the night wore on, things got a bit messy. a spilled punch bowl here, a toppled chair over there. regina was yelling, laughing, and crying all at once, a hurricane of emotions. rodrick tried to keep her from completely falling apart, and she let him.
at one point, she flopped onto a couch, curling up in a ball, laughing at some random video on her phone. rodrick sat on the armrest next to her, careful not to invade her space too much.
“you’re a disaster." he said softly, shaking his head.
“aw, thanks.” she said, laying down on the couch and staring at the ceiling. “i try.”
he opened his mouth to say something but closed it and just shook his head. she laughed, sitting back up.
the party started winding down, people leaving in various states of drunkenness. rodrick tried to help her up a few times, but she kept swaying, giggling uncontrollably, but despite her insistence that 'she could handle herself', he ended up guiding her to a quiet bedroom upstairs.
“god, you’re impossible." he whined, sitting on the edge of the bed while she collapsed next to him, finally quiet for a moment.
“i know.” she whispered, a small, genuine smile tugging at her lips.
rodrick smiled back, heart beating a little faster than it should.
"maybe that's why aaron dumped me!" she said as she began ugly crying.
"not again- you're fucking kidding me."
──── ୨୧ ────
the room smelled of spilled drinks and something sweet.. were those cupcakes stuck to the ceiling?
regina was curled on the bed. her hair messy and eyes red from crying too much.
rodrick layed down next to her awkwardly, like he wasn't sure if he should even be here right now. he wasn’t exposed to this side of her before.
“you’re.. really drunk.” he said, voice low.
“captain obvious strikes again.” she slurred, a small smile tugging at her lips. she tried to sit up, then groaned and flopped back. “ugh. why does everything spin? it’s not fair. i hate everything. especially aaron.”
rodrick chuckled softly. “yeah, he’s an idiot. you didn't deserve that.”
she squinted at him, suspicious. “oh?”
“i don’t know.” he admitted, running a hand through his hair. “i’m just saying.. you’re better than him. than everyone.”
regina blinked, caught off guard.
for a moment, neither of them spoke. the sounds of the party outside were muffled, like no one else existed. just them.
“rod..” she murmured finally, softer than she ever let anyone hear. “i-i’m sorry for being.. well, me. a mess. i don’t even know what i’m saying.”
“hey.” he said, taking her hand into his, squeezing it gently. “it’s okay. you don’t have to apologize. you’re allowed to be a mess, especially after all of this."
she let out a shaky laugh. “everything is a lot. and i suck at handling things like this.”
“no." he said firmly. “you don’t suck, you just haven’t met the right person. yet."
she blinked, heart thudding for reasons she didn’t want to list. there it was again; the spark from months ago, the one she hadn’t forgotten, amplified a hundred times late at night.
“rodrick.” she whispered, leaning closer than she probably should, “i don’t.. i don’t even know if this is okay.”
“it’s okay,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “we’re fine. you’re fine. i’m fine. we can just stay here. together. for a bit.”
and so they did. minutes felt like hours. time turned a bit messy when you were drunk and honest in a bed with someone you liked.
regina shifted again, curling up next to him, her head resting on his chest. he tensed for a second, but let her be.
silence filled the room, but their minds were racing.
“i like you.” he blurted out. regina’s eyes fluttered open. “you.. what?”
“i like you." he repeated, louder this time. “i think i’ve liked you for a while, i just didn't have a chance tell you because you were all over aaron all the time."
she laughed softly. “i like you too." she admitted. “i think i've liked you for a while as well.” rodrick’s grin returned, softer, warmer.
“this feels like a really intense therapy session." regina giggled, hitting his chest softly with her hand. she left it there.
they didn’t kiss, just they laid there, holding each other.
"this is nice. even if it’s a little messy.” regina murmured after a while.
“messy is kinda our thing at this point.” he said, planting a gentle kiss on her head.
and with that, regina and rodrick drifted off to sleep next to each other. no words, just warmth, and the quiet understanding that maybe this was the start of something new.
୨ৎ pairing : rodrick heffley x regina george
୨ৎ blurb : greg finds out his brother is dating the most popular girl in school.
୨ৎ notes : requested on ao3 <3
‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹
greg heffley wasn’t an idiot. he knew his brother was a disaster. in the most literal, physical, and emotional sense.
rodrick was the kind of guy who’d fail a math test and then brag about it like it was a personality trait. the kind of guy who wore ripped jeans that weren't even ripped when he bought them. the kind of guy who’d call skipping class “a form of art”.
so, naturally, when greg saw regina george waiting for rodrick outside the school parking lot, prefect blonde hair, sunglasses probably worth more than his entire wardrobe. his brain short circuited.
“no way.” greg muttered, gripping the straps of his backpack. “no freaking way.”
rodrick sauntered over to regina, leaning on her car door with the kind of confidence only idiots had. she rolled her eyes, but she was smiling.
greg almost dropped his binder.
“you’re telling me..” he whispered to himself. “that rodrick. my brother. somehow managed to date the regina george? how? how did this happen? did she lose a bet?”
rowley, standing next to him and sucking on a lollipop, looked confused. “maybe she likes his band?”
greg turned slowly. “rowley, no one likes his band. not even the band likes his band.”
meanwhile, regina was sliding her sunglasses down her nose, saying something snarky that made rodrick laugh. it was gross. the world was ending. greg was sure of it.
later that day, he burst into the house.
“mom!” he yelled. “you’re not gonna believe this.”
susan looked up from the kitchen table, half distracted. “what is it, honey?”
“rodrick’s dating regina george.”
she blinked. “who?”
“you know! regina george! she’s, like, the most popular girl at our school. blonde, terrifying, probably gets people murdered for fun?”
susan smiled sweetly. “oh, that’s nice! i’m glad rodrick is meeting new people.”
greg gasped. “no, mom, you don’t get it-”
just then, rodrick strolled in, humming some guitar riff under his breath, smelling faintly of cheap cologne. “yo.” he said, tossing his keys onto the counter.
greg rounded on him. “how the hell did you get regina george to date you?”
rodrick smirked. “what, jealous?”
greg sputtered. “jealous? no. confused? yes. terrified? maybe!”
“it’s called having game, little bro.”
greg crossed his arms. “you have no game.”
rodrick shrugged. “guess regina disagrees.”
he winked. greg made a noise that could only be described as a dying cat.
by friday, greg’s curiosity had turned into full blown obsession. he needed to see it. he needed proof.
so, naturally, he decided to trap his brother.
“hey rodrick.” greg said at breakfast, pretending to be casual but failing miserably. “mom’s doing family dinner tonight, right?”
rodrick glanced up from his cereal. “uh, yeah. why?”
greg grinned. “you should bring regina.”
rodrick froze, spoon halfway to his mouth. “what?”
“yeah! you’re dating her, right? bring her over. the family wants to meet her.”
and by "family", greg meant himself.
rodrick squinted. “why do you suddenly care?”
“i don’t care.” greg lied. “i’m just.. curious. i mean, she’s regina george. no one’s gonna believe me when i tell them unless i have proof.”
“so this is about you, then." rodrick said flatly.
greg grinned wider. “basically.”
rodrick groaned. “you’re such a freak.”
but greg kept at it. the whining, the poking, the dramatic sighs. until rodrick caved.
“fine!” he snapped. “i’ll ask her.”
greg’s grin could’ve powered a small city. “perfect.”
────
it was too late to back out.
regina george was coming for dinner.
rodrick sat on the couch, staring at the front door like it was about to explode. he’d texted regina earlier that day; yo my familys having dinner tn. wanna come over?
she’d replied with a simple : sure. what should i wear?
and now, his mom was running around setting the table. rodrick was regretting everything.
greg was pacing the living room, holding a notepad like he was preparing for an interview.
“so what’s she like?” he demanded. “is she really as mean as people say she is? does she have, like, a secret lair?”
“she’s not mean.” rodrick said. “just brutally honest.”
“that’s code for mean.”
“whatever, dude.”
“i’m serious.” greg said. “i need to be ready. what if she starts manipulating us or burns this whole house down with all of us inside? i need to take notes.”
rodrick grinned. “good luck with that.”
and then, the doorbell rang.
the entire heffley household froze.
susan practically sprinted to the door, smoothing her top. “oh! she’s here!”
greg stood on his toes, trying to see over her shoulder as she opened it.
regina george stood in the doorway like she’d just stepped out of a movie. jeans, a soft pink top, hair perfectly curled, and a beautiful smile that could kill a man.
“hi, mrs. heffley.” she said sweetly. “thank you for having me.”
susan’s face lit up. “oh, you’re just lovely! rodrick’s told us so much about you!”
greg scoffed. “bullshit.”
rodrick smacked his head for that.
regina smiled, stepping inside. “hi, greg.” she said casually, like she’d met him before. “rodrick’s told me lots about you.”
greg's eyebrows raised. “he has?”
“yep.” she glanced at rodrick. “apparently you once tried to sell his drumsticks online?”
“that was a business opportunity." greg snapped.
rodrick smirked. “yeah, sure buddy."
regina laughed, the sound soft and disarming. susan beamed like this was the most adorable thing she’d ever seen.
“oh, isn’t young love wonderful?” she sighed.
greg made a face. “wonderful isn’t the word i’d use.”
────
dinner was chaos.
regina sat perfectly composed at the table while susan tried to make small talk. "so what do you do for fun, regina?"
“ruin men.”
susan laughed nervously. “oh! you’re joking!”
greg spoke through his glass of water. “she’s not.”
rodrick kicked him under the table.
regina leaned back in her chair, sipping her drink with an amused smirk. “so, greg..” she said. “you’ve been dying to meet me, huh?”
greg blinked. “i just i wanted to see if you were really dating. you know, because rodrick’s.. rodrick.”
“meaning?” rodrick asked, narrowing his eyes.
greg gestured vaguely. “meaning he's disgusting and you're gorgeous! like, there’s no way the universe allowed that pairing.”
regina grinned. “well, the universe has bad taste sometimes.”
rodrick snorted. “hey!"
“not you, babe.” she said without missing a beat.
greg just stared at them. “i feel like i’m looking at a glitch in the matrix.”
rodrick leaned over. “don’t be jealous, little bro.”
“jealous? of you? please. i’d rather-”
but he stopped when regina raised an eyebrow, her signature stare making him shut up instantly.
greg turned red. “okay, i see how it is.”
rodrick just smirked. “told you she’s awesome.”
regina glanced at rodrick, their knees brushing under the table, and smiled. rodrick gave her one back.
and greg groaned. “gross. they’re being cute now.”
“yeah.” rodrick said, grinning. “deal with it.”
────
dinner was over, and the tension was just getting comfortable.
greg was pacing in the living room, muttering to himself like a detective.
“something doesn’t add up." he said, squinting. “she’s too cool. too calm. she’s probably just doing this for some sort of social experiment. maybe it’s a dare.”
rodrick sat on the couch, scrolling through his phone. “you sound like a conspiracy theorist, dude.”
“yeah? well, explain it then! why would regina george date you?”
rodrick smirked. “because i’m awesome?”
greg stared. “you drive a van that smells like feet.”
“yeah, rockstar feet."
regina walked in just then, holding a glass of water, catching the tail end of the argument. “what are we talking about?”
greg spun around. “you, obviously.”
“shocking.” she said dryly, settling on the couch beside rodrick. “go on.”
greg threw his hands up. “i just don’t get it! he’s- he’s him! and you’re you! what is this, charity work?”
rodrick snorted. “greg, you're embarrassing yourself.”
regina looked amused, like she was watching a very entertaining sitcom. “want me to explain it to you, greg?”
he folded his arms. “please do.”
she smiled, slow and smug. “i like guys who don’t care what people think. who make me laugh. who aren’t scared of me.”
greg blinked. “..that’s literally the opposite of everyone at our school.”
“exactly.” she said, taking rodricks hand in hers and giving it a squeeze.
greg stared at the contact like it was physical proof that the world was collapsing.
“this is insane.” he whispered. “you’re a mean girl. he’s a loser band guy.”
rodrick smirked. “a loser band guy who gets the girl, apparently.”
“ugh.” greg dragged a hand down his face. “you’re unbearable.”
regina tilted her head, smiling sweetly. “you should be taking notes.”
greg looked personally offended. “i don’t need notes anymore.”
“you definitely need notes.” rodrick said.
“shut up!”
the conversation shifted when frank heffley came home from work.
he was wearing his usual expression of mild confusion. “oh, regina.” he said. "didn't know you'd be here. it's nice to see you, i've heard a lot about you.”
regina smiled politely. “i hope not everything.”
frank chuckled nervously. “rodrick tells me you’re.. um, very confident.”
greg whispered. “that’s code for terrifying.”
rodrick kicked him again.
frank nodded to himself. “good, good. confidence is important. i was confident once, you know. back in high school, they called me ‘the smooth operator'.”
greg groaned. “dad, no.”
rodrick put his face in his hands. “please stop.”
regina raised an eyebrow. “smooth operator? what happened?”
“married life.” frank said with a grin.
regina actually laughed. greg looked like he’d seen a ghost.
“what’s happening right now?” greg muttered. “why is she laughing at dad’s jokes?”
“because she finds them funny." rodrick said.
“no, they’re not!”
eventually, susan came in with dessert. brownies that were somehow both burnt and undercooked.
“i hope you like them." she said cheerfully. “i tried a new recipe!”
regina took a bite and smiled politely, though her eyes said this is a war crime. “it’s.. interesting.”
“awh, thanks!” susan beamed.
greg snickered into his napkin.
rodrick nudged regina. “you don’t have to eat it.”
“no, i’m committed now.” she whispered back. “if i die, tell people it was out of respect.”
greg snorted so loudly, brownie chunks came out of his mouth.
susan frowned. “gregory!”
“sorry! she’s just.. funny.”
rodrick leaned back, grinning. “see?”
────
after dessert, regina helped susan with the dishes (which nearly made greg faint again).
“you don’t have to do that.” susan said, smiling.
“it’s fine. you even cooked for us, it's the least i could do.” regina replied.
greg whispered to rodrick from across the room. “she’s faking it.”
rodrick smirked. “nah. that’s just her being nice.”
greg squinted. “wow. terrifying.”
“yeah.” rodrick said proudly. “she’s the best.”
later, when everything was winding down, regina and rodrick stepped out to the porch.
it was quiet, the sky bruised pink from the sunset. rodrick leaned against the railing, hands in his hoodie pocket.
“you survived.” he said.
regina sighed dramatically. “barely. your brother almost gave me an aneurysm.”
“yeah, he does that.”
she smiled, small and tired. “your family’s.. weird. but in a good way.”
rodrick shrugged. “you'll get used to it.”
“and your mom’s brownies might be a health hazard.”
“yeah, i'm throwing those out later.”
they both laughed. then she wrapped her hands around his neck, his hands moving down to her waist by default. “you know your brother still doesn’t believe we’re dating.”
“yeah, i noticed.”
“what are you gonna do about it?”
rodrick grinned. “i dunno. maybe something that’ll make him really believe it.”
regina raised an eyebrow. “like what?”
“this.”
he leaned in and kissed her. slow, loving. enough to make her laugh when he pulled back.
“you’re ridiculous." she said, smiling.
“yeah, well.." he whispered. “he's looking at us.”
from the window, greg’s muffled voice yelled, “i saw that! gross! no way. no freaking way. he actually kissed her. i hate this timeline.”
susan patted his shoulder. “be happy for your brother, honey.”
“happy? he’s rodrick! he doesn’t deserve to win!”
frank looked up from the tv. “sometimes love surprises you, son.”
greg groaned. “ugh, you’re all insane.”
regina smirked. “guess he believes it now.”
rodrick grinned wider. “mission accomplished.”
୨ৎ pairing : rodrick heffley x regina george
୨ৎ blurb : regina finds out aaron has a new girlfriend. what better way to make him jealous than to date someone out of her league?
୨ৎ notes : a bit longer than my usual fics but it's worth the read, i promise<3 enjoy my loves !
꒰ ᧔ෆ᧓ ꒱
regina never asked anyone for help, didn’t chase, and definitely didn’t need anyone. but that rule was about to be broken, because of aaron samuels.
aaron and his new girlfriend, whatever the hell her name was, were the talk of the entire senior class. they were nauseatingly happy. regina had told herself she didn’t care, that she was over it. except she wasn’t. and when gretchen let slip that aaron would be at the valentine’s dance with her, something inside regina snapped.
she needed a plan. a distraction. a fake boyfriend.
enter rodrick heffley.
it all started in the cafeteria. rodrick was next to a vending machine, arguing with his brother about lunch money. his hair was a mess, and he looked far from regina’s social tier.
he was perfect.
“hey, heffley.” she said, her voice sugar sweet.
he turned, caught off guard. “uh.. george? you lose a bet or something?”
she smiled, the kind that made people nervous. “you’re gonna help me with something.”
he blinked. “that sounds.. sketchy.”
“it’s not." she lied. “i need you to pretend to be my boyfriend.”
he laughed so hard he nearly choked. “yeah, right.”
regina crossed her arms, tilting her head. “you’ll get free food, maybe a new drumset and people will stop thinking you live in your parents attic.”
“i do live in my parents attic.”
“it’s called character development.”
he hesitated, and that was all she needed.
“come on.” she said, lowering her voice. “it’s just for a few weeks. all you have to do is show up, act like you’re obsessed with me, which cleary shouldn’t be hard, and i’ll make it worth your while.”
rodrick looked like he couldn’t decide whether to laugh or run. “add another perk in and i might consider it.”
“i can get your band booked for the spring carnival. you’ve been trying to get a gig there for, what, three years?”
his eyes narrowed. “you serious?”
“dead." he exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck. “fine. but if i’m doing this, i'm doing it my way.”
regina smirked. “no, hun. you’ll do it my way.”
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
the first week was pure chaos.
rodrick was terrible at pretending. he forgot to text her, didn’t walk her to class. and at lunch, he’d show up halfway through, holding a slice of pizza like it was a trophy.
“rodrick.” she hissed, sliding into the seat beside him, “try acting like you’ve dated a human before.”
he shrugged. “you said fake boyfriend, not trained actor.”
“just-” she glanced around, aaron was sitting two tables away. “put your arm around me. now.” rodrick raised a brow, grinning. “bossy.”
“do it, heffley.”
he threw his arm over her shoulders in the most exaggerated, lazy way possible. “like this?”
“less… caveman. more casual.”
“sorry, i don’t speak mean girl.”
she almost laughed. almost.
by friday, people were talking. regina and rodrick. rodrick heffley, the guy who once fell asleep during an assembly, were officially a thing.
karen squealed. “you two are so cute!” while gretchen whispered. “is this some sort of social experiment?”
regina brushed it off with a smirk. the rumors were perfect, exactly what she needed. aaron kept glancing over in the halls, like he couldn’t believe it. that was the point.
but then, somewhere between all of this, something started to shift.
it was small at first. a text from rodrick at 1am :
rodrick : your ex is a jerk btw rodrick : no clue how u dated him regina : i didnt ask rodrick : js stating the obvious
she didn’t reply, but she reread it twice.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
the second week, they had to take couple photos for the valentine’s board, an annual “cute couples” wall by the gym. regina told him to wear something decent, yet he showed up in a black hoodie with “löded diper” scrawled on it.
“you look like a dropout.” she muttered.
he grinned. “you look like you care too much.”
“i always look like that.”
the photographer told them to 'get closer'. rodrick slung an arm around her waist.
“try not to look like you’re being held hostage.” he teased.
when the camera flashed, she wasn’t ready for how natural it felt. how close he was, the smell of his cheap cologne and the faint smirk tugging at his mouth.
afterwards, she stepped back quickly. “don’t get used to it.”
he scoffed. “you're funny."
by week three, the lines were blurring.
rodrick started walking her to class, unprompted. he’d lean against her locker, make sarcastic comments, and she’d roll her eyes but never told him to stop.
once, when someone made a joke about him being “regina’s charity case.” he just grinned. “nah. i'm her upgrade.”
later that day, she found him behind the gym, guitar in hand. he was strumming quietly, not his usual noisy stuff. it was soft.
“are you stalking me now?” he teased.
“i was on my way to cheer practice.”
“sure you were.”
she crossed her arms. “what song is that?”
he shrugged. “just something i’m working on.”
“is it about me?” she asked, smirking.
he looks up, eyes gleaming. "do you want it to be?”
she pauses. “maybe.”
things got complicated after that.
regina’s plan worked. aaron got jealous, kept staring, even tried talking to her again. but the less she spoke to aaron, the less she cared. his words felt empty.
rodricks didn’t.
he’d pick her up for ''fake'' dates in his van, always late, always blasting loud music. they’d sit in drive thrus and he’d say something stupid, she’d call him an idiot, yet somehow it always ended in laughter.
but she kept reminding herself; it was fake. a deal. temporary.
still, it didn’t feel fake the night he walked her home after a date. the street was quiet, she was cold and he tossed her his jacket without a word. it smelled like cheap body spray. she never gave it back.
when they stopped outside her house, she turned to him. “you’re actually not completely unbearable.” she said.
he grinned. “careful, george. that almost sounded like a compliment.”
she smirked. “don’t get used to it.”
“already did.”
her heart shouldn’t have skipped at that. yet it did.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
by week four, regina had the school wrapped around her finger again. only this time, she wasn’t sure she liked it.
the whispers, the attention, the photo of her and Rodrick on the valentine’s board with the caption "power couple of the month.” it was everything she could've ever wanted. but when she saw aaron’s expression, the subtle mix of confusion and jealousy, it didn’t spark satisfaction anymore. it just felt.. flat.
rodrick noticed.
he always noticed, even when she tried to hide it.
“you good?” he asked one afternoon, spinning a drumstick in his hand as they stood outside infront of the school steps.
“i’m fine.”
“liar.”
she gave him a look. “you calling me a liar, heffley?”
he shrugged, smirking. “you’re standing in silence and not scrolling your phone. that’s, like, a red flag.”
she rolled her eyes, but a laugh slipped out anyway. “you’re annoying.”
“and yet you keep showing up.”
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
the valentine's dance crept up faster than she expected.
gretchen was fussing over regina’s hair, karen humming off key to some love song. “you and rodrick are gonna look so cute tonight!” karen said, clasping her hands.
regina caught her reflection in the mirror. the pink silk dress, the glossed lips, her hair that took an hour to do. she looked perfect. duh, of course she did.
“it’s not real.” she muttered under her breath.
“what?” gretchen asked.
“nothing."
just then, the doorbell rang.
"he's an hour late." karen says, reapplying her lipstick for the millionth time.
regina sighs. "you'll get used to it."
he stood on her doorstep, holding a crushed bouquet of roses. “they were, uh… discounted.”
she stared. “wow. nothing screams romance like a clearance tag.”
he grinned. “aw, you love it.”
she hated that she kind of did.
the gym was glowing pink and red, balloons everywhere, cheap punch spilling on the floor. people stared when they walked in, the queen of the school and the grunge boy from the attic.
“smile." regina whispered through clenched teeth. “we’re supposed to look in love.”
rodrick leaned closer, whispering back. “you sure this isn’t love already?”
she shot him a glare, but her cheeks burned. “don’t push it.”
the night went on. dancing, posing for photos, pretending. but at some point, between songs, she caught aaron looking her way again. he smiled, the kind of smile that used to make her heart race.
“go talk to him.” rodrick said suddenly.
“what?”
“you’ve been staring at him for ten minutes.”
“i have not.”
“you have, so go talk to him. that’s what this was all about, right?”
she didn’t answer, because he was right. it was the plan. and yet the thought of leaving Rodrick there, alone under the fairy lights, felt so wrong.
still, she went.

-a few days ago-
when the entire school found out that the regina george and rodrick heffley were dating, it didn't take greg long to notice.
he caught him in the kitchen that night, spooning peanut butter straight from the jar.
“so..” greg said, leaning against the counter with folded arms. “mind telling me how you managed to trick the most popular girl in school into dating you?”
rodrick frowned. “trick? dude, she asked me.”
greg snorted. “right, and i'm dating taylor swift.”
“i’m serious!” he managed to let out with his mouth full.
“yeah, sure. what did you do, bribe her? save her cat? threaten to play your demo tapes until she gave in?”
rodrick glared. “you’re hilarious.”
greg grinned. “no, really. you? with regina george? she probably has a waiting list for people who want to speak to her. and you’re just, what, skipping lines now?”
rodrick pointed his spoon at him. “careful. i'll tell mom you taught manny how to say 'shit' yesterday.”
greg gasped. “you wouldn’t.”
“oh, i would.”
greg narrowed his eyes. “fine. whatever. but if she dumps you in front of the whole school, don’t cry to me when your heart breaks and your band writes, like, twelve break up songs about it.”
rodrick smirked. “joke’s on you, we already started.”
greg rolled his eyes so hard it was practically audible and left muttering something about “weird rockstar romance plots.”
rodrick just laughed. but later that night, when he checked his phone and saw regina had liked one of his stories. he smiled longer than he meant to.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
aaron was all charm and sweetness. “hey, regina. you look.. amazing.”
“thanks, aaron.” she said.
he shifted, glancing toward rodrick. “so, you and that heffley, huh? didn’t see that coming.”
“yeah, well. i like surprises.”
“you could’ve just told me you wanted my attention, you know. you didn’t have to-”
regina froze. “what?”
aaron gave a little laugh, like it was obvious. “come on, regina. everyone knows it's all fake.”
her throat went dry. “and if it was?”
“then it worked.” he said with a grin. “you got me thinking about you again.”
it was supposed to feel like victory. it didn’t.
for the first time all night, she felt terrible.
when she turned back to check on rodrick, he wasn’t at their table anymore.
she found him outside, sitting on on curb near the parking lot. she stops herself from laughing when she sees his wrinkled dress shirt and sneakers. the roses lay beside him, half crushed.
“you ran off." he said without looking up.
“i didn’t run. i walked.”
“great. you walked off.”
she sighed. “he said something stupid.”
“shocker.”
“no, I mean..” she sat beside him. “he said everyone knows it’s fake.”
rodrick’s jaw tightened. “isn’t it?”
her stomach twisted. “it was.”
“was?” he asked quietly.
regina didn’t answer.
rodrick sighed, leaning back on his hands. “you know what’s funny? everyone thinks i’m the one out of your league. but right now, you look like the one trying too hard to fit into mine.”
that stung. mostly because it was true.
she looked at him. “you think you’re better than me now?”
he laughed softly. “no, regina. i just think you’ve been pretending for so long, you don’t even know when to stop.”
her breath hitched. “and what about you? you’ve been acting too.”
“i wasn't."
that shut her up completely.
he stood up, brushing his jeans off. “you can tell people we broke up or whatever. i’m done with this.”
“rodrick-”
but he was already walking toward his van, leaving the roses behind.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
the next week was quiet. too quiet.
no texts, no late night calls. the school moved on fast. new rumors, new gossip. regina kept up the act, but it felt like walking through fog. everything looked the same, but nothing felt real.
she caught herself scrolling through her messages more than once, typing his name, then deleting it.
until one afternoon, she found a flyer taped to her locker: “LÖDED DIPER - live at the spring carnival.”
she smiled to herself. he actually did it.
the night of the carnival, she went.
she told herself it was just to “check out the event". but deep down, she knew exactly why she was there. the stage lights glowed purple, the crowd was loud, and rodrick was the center of it. laughing, alive, exactly where he belonged.
he spotted her in the crowd. for a second, he froze. then, he smiled.
after the show, she found him by the side of the stage, loading his gear. “you were great.” she said softly.
“didn’t know you were coming.”
“didn’t know i was either.”
he wiped sweat off his forehead, looking surprised and uncertain. “so what, you here to tell me you’re over aaron now?”
she shook her head. “i was over him the moment he thought i’d fake something like that.”
he blinked, unsure what to say.
regina stepped closer, heart pounding. “you were right. i don’t know when to stop pretending. but.. i wasn’t pretending with you. not really.”
rodrick just stared. and then that crooked smile appeared. “wow. regina george expressing her feelings. shouldn't i be recording this?”
she smacked his arm. “you ruin everything.”
he laughed, then caught her wrist gently before she could pull away. “you still owe me.”
“for what?”
“for all the fake dates, the public humiliation, and the emotional damage.”
“oh, please. you loved it.”
"i did.”
they stood there, music fading in the background, lights reflecting off the ferris wheel behind them. the world blurring.
without warning, she leans in and kisses him.
rodrick froze for a second before smiling against her lips. “you’re not gonna tell me this is still fake, are you?”
she smiled. “no, stupid. this one’s real.”
One thing I love about the new Punkplastic hype is that in almost every art piece / fan fiction I’ve read of it, Rodrick is the sub. He absolutely would be, that poor man does not have a dominant bone in his body.
౨ৎ pairing : regina george x rodrick heffley
౨ৎ blurb : regina george and rodrick heffley get paired together for a history project.
౨ৎ notes : i'm so happy people are enjoying these <3 ty for reading lovely !

the universe must’ve hated her.
that’s the only explanation regina george could come up with when her history teacher said she'll be "working with rodrick heffley.”
rodrick. seriously? of all people.
he was leaning back in his chair, legs kicked out, pencil tapping against the edge of the desk like he was auditioning for a noise complaint. his dirty (probably 10 year old) ripped jeans, faded löded diper shirt, and his stupid smug grin.
she shot him a glare sharp enough to kill a man. he just smirked.
they were doing a history project, something about revolutions and social reform. regina already had her color coded google slides presentation ready before class ended. she’d been forced to worked with idiots before, but at least they tried.
“okay." she said, flipping her hair as she sat across from him in the library after school. “you’ll handle research on protest movements. i’ll do the visual presentation because i actually know what looks good.”
rodrick raised a brow. “so i do the boring part and you get all the credit?”
she gave a tight, polite smile. “you're a fast learner.”
he laughed, loud, unbothered. “you’re unbelievable.”
“and you’re unqualified.”
the librarian coughed, signaling them to keep it down. regina leaned closer, whispering. “if you make me fail this class, i’ll make sure you never set foot in this school again.”
he leaned in too, voice low. “promise?”
regina mentally face palmed.
❀────────────────────────❀
by day three, her hands were begging to strangle him. rodrick hadn’t sent her a single note or draft. instead, he texted her:
rodrick: chill queen b i got it handled reginar: meaning what exactly rodrick: meaning i googled it and it’s somewhere in my notes app regina: do you even have a notes app rodrick: ok rude
she groaned so hard it hurt.
when she showed up at his house, because she had to, his room looked like the aftermath of a tornado. posters, guitar picks, open bags of chips. a mattress on an excuse of a broken old bed. he looked up from his desk, grinning.
“george in the flesh." he said. “didn’t think you’d actually come.”
“i'm regretting it already.” she muttered, stepping over an amplifier cord.
“don’t touch that-” he started, but she’d already brushed past and sat near him on the edge of his desk.
“do you have anything done?” she asked.
he shrugged, spinning in his chair. “some notes. might be on that notebook under your- oh wait, no, that’s my lyrics book.”
“lyrics?” she flipped it open before he could stop her. “'she's tugging on my belt but who the fuck is she, super high hair and super high heels’ wow, creative.”
“give me that!” he lunged for it, nearly stepping on his amplifier cords himself.
she laughed, a genuine, sharp sound that caught him off guard. “who's it about? me?”
“n-no, that’s… that’s about someone else.” he stuttered.
“sure it is.” she said, teasing. “must’ve been inspired by your thriving love life.”
he snatched it out of her hand. “at least i don't beg for love attention online."
she scoffed, chin tilting up. “you think i'm desperate for attention? please, i am the attention."
"yeah, keep telling yourself that"
❀────────────────────────❀
they didn’t talk for two days and regina finished half the slides alone. she told herself it was fine, she worked better solo.
but her brain wouldn’t shut up about the way he’d said that. who the hell does he think he is?
by friday, he texted again.
rodrick: meet after school? rodrick: promise l’ll actually help this time rodrick: bring your laptop
she debated ignoring him, she really did.
they met in the library again. he came in late, hair messy, smelling like cigarettes and mint gum. “okay.” he said, dropping into the seat beside her. “i got sources this time. real ones, not wikipedia.”
she peeked at his notes and, shockingly, they weren’t terrible. his handwriting was awful, but the content was solid.
“you actually did work." she said, impressed.
he grinned. "see? i contain multitudes.”
she snorted. “yeah, mostly caffeine and ego.”
“don’t forget charm.”
she looked up at him, ready to retort, but his grin softened. and for a second, her throat felt tight.
“let’s finish the slides.” she said quickly, breaking eye contact.
hours passed, and the library was empty. rodrick played music softly from his phone, something alternative and rough but kinda.. good? regina caught herself nodding to the beat while typing.
“you like it?” he asked.
“it’s decent.”
“high praise from royalty.”
she rolled her eyes.
❀────────────────────────❀
they presented the next week. regina did the talking, confident as ever (duh). rodrick managed the slides, throwing in a sarcastic comment or two that made the class laugh. they actually worked together. plus, they were pretty likeable.
“great job, you two." their teacher praised. regina felt something foreign: pride that wasn’t all hers.
after class, rodrick caught up to her by the lockers. “so..” he said, shoving his hands in his pockets. “guess we make a pretty good team.”
“don’t push it.”
he leaned against the locker next to hers. “you’re very welcome, by the way.”
“excuse me?”
“for proving you’re not such a.. conniving bitch? there’s a decent person under there somewhere.”
she blinked. “and you’re not all sarcasm. there’s a brain cell under there somewhere.”
he laughed, shaking his head. “you know, george, you’d be pretty nice to be around if you stopped biting people.”
she raised her brows. “oh? then who would keep you in check, heffley?”
that weekend, he texted her again.
rodrick: im lowk thinking abt rewriting the song regina: the one about me? rodrick: the one thats totally not about you regina: maybe rodrick: maybe what regina: maybe it needs a better ending
monday morning, everyone at school was talking about the video rodrick uploaded, him performing an acoustic song called 'queen b'
regina listened to it in her car before class. the lyrics were sweet, mocking and honest, all at once.
worst part is that the song wasn’t even subtle. practically half the school had figured out who it was about.
regina cornered him by the vending machines, crossing her arms. “you do realize you just wrote a love song about your project partner, right?”
rodrick grinned. “who said it was a love song?”
“oh, please. ‘put your hands all over me’? subtle.”
he shrugged. “if the shoe fits.”
she rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her smile. “next time you want to impress me, try passing a project deadline first.”
“oh really?" he said. “maybe next time, you shouldn't make it so easy to write about you.”
she scoffed. "you shouldn't catch feelings so fast, heffley." flipping her hair before walking away.
"too late."
regina (hater): omfg he’s such a freak
rodrick (delusional): oh she wants me so bad
They look oddly good together
I'm not going to elaborate
୨ৎ pairing : rodrick heffley x regina george

the auditorium lights buzzed overhead, too bright, too warm. the kind of lighting that made people look shiny and fake. perfect for a school talent show.
regina sat near the back with her legs crossed and her expression carefully blank. if anyone noticed that she was here, which they eventually would, they’d assume she was just judging, the way she always does. not that she was waiting for the next act. not that her heart had been uneasily skipping all day.
when mr. jefferson mumbled something into the mic about “löded diper”, half the audience groaned. she's sure she heard someone in the front row laugh.
then the lights dimmed.
and there he was.
rodrick fucking heffley.
black jeans, signature smudged eyeliner, fading "löded diper" band tee and a shit eating grin plastered on his face.
he sits down, twirling his drum sticks before adjusting his mic. "he's not actually singing, right?" she hears someone near her say, clearly sarcastic. he leans into the mic, and begins to sing.
“she walks like she owns the place."
"every step brings someone down."
"yet i'd let her ruin me over and over again,"
"if it meant she stuck around.”
the laughter died down fast.
regina’s fingers curled around the edge of her seat, her throat tightening. he didn’t even have to say her name, everyone already knew the one girl that practically owned the school.
she could feel the eyes turning, the whispers rippling like static. “who do you think this songs about?” “wait- does he mean…?”
she brought her hand up, almost instinctively, to her chest. to the large rose gold “R” necklace resting against her skin. everyone thought it stood for regina, but the truth was smaller, heavier, and so much more dangerous.
it stood for rodrick.
and now, standing under that spotlight, he’d just made it everyone’s business.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
it wasn’t supposed to get this far.
he was the exact types of boys her mother warned her about. grungy, loud. he literally smelled like gasoline and cheap aftershave.
but it's too late. her perfume lingered on his hoodies, her lipstick stained rims of his cups at home. and the necklace her gave her? burning around her neck.
when the song hit the school, a recording was passed around in group chats. regina knew it was over.
not them, necessarily. but the secretive part.
she walked down the hall the next morning, feeling everyone’s eyes on her. a few whispers, the words "rodrick and regina” tossed around. half teasing, half accusing.
even cady looked at her funny, like she believes the rumors might be true.
regina didn’t flinch. she smiled, of course. elegantly flipping her hair when someone asks her about it. "i don’t listen to loser garage bands.”
she swore she was about to lose her mind.
'where the hell is he?' she thought to herself.
then she remembered, she knew exactly where to find him. behind those disgusting bleachers in the gym strictly reserved for school meetings. and sure enough, when she enters, she spots him leaned against the wall with his eyes glued to his phone.
he looks up when he hears footsteps approaching and smiles when he sees that its her. “fancy seeing you here."
her stomach twisted. “what the hell is wrong with you?!"
he blinked. “uh.. i missed you too?”
she stepped closer, crossing her arms, every muscle pulled tight. “you wrote a song, rodrick. about me.”
adjusting his posture, he tilts his head. "did i?”
“don’t play dumb, rodrick. everyone knows.”
“knows what? that i wrote a song about a girl that might be you? it’s not like i said your name.”
“that’s not the point!” she snaps. “you think people are stupid? you think they won’t figure it?"
he raises his arms in defeat. “so what if they do?”
regina stared at him. for a second, she didn’t know what to say. she *knew* he was right, she just couldn’t let people know. she couldn’t let them see her like this; vulnerable and in love with someone who didn’t fit in the picture perfect world she’d built for herself.
“you don’t get it.” she whispered. “If they find out-”
“they’ll what?” he interrupts her, his voice cracking slightly. “they’ll stop inviting you to sit with them? they’ll call you names? who cares, regina? you hate them more than they hate you.”
her throat ached. “that’s not the same thing.”
“you can't be serious.” he muttered, playing with the strands of his hoodie anxiously.
she didn’t know how long they stood there.
rodrick finally broke the silence, rubbing the back of his neck. “look, i wasn’t trying to ruin your life or whatever. it’s just..” he hesitated. “when i write, i can’t lie about my feelings. i see you in everything, even when i don’t want to.”
she wanted to hate that, she really did. but instead, she was blushing like crazy.
regina had spent her entire life building herself into something untouchable. the perfect body, perfect friends, but rodrick had seen right through it. seen the exhaustion, the loneliness, the girl who'd stayed up all night staring at the ceiling wondering who she could've been if she wasn’t the regina george.
and now he’d written her down. no, immortalized her. not as the 'queen bee', but as a person.
that's what terrified her the most.
and when she finally spoke, her voice small. “you shouldn’t've done that.”
he nodded. “i know.”
silence.
“i just…” she trailed off, fingers grazing the necklace. “i don’t want people to ruin this, i want it private. just you and me. ours"
he looked at her then- really looked. “then let’s keep it that way.”
she frowned. “how? you already-”
“i’ll write something else." he said quickly. “make them think it’s someone else. heather, maybe.”
regina struggled to keep a giggle in. “heather would love that.”
he shrugged, smiling faintly. “then she gets what she wants, and so do you.”
she obviously hated the idea that rodrick would write a love song about anyone but her, but she had to let it slide through.
she wanted to laugh, cry? something. but instead, she just nods. “okay.”
rodrick takes a few steps closer to her. “for the record.." he said softly, “i wasn’t trying to out us. i just… wanted to say something real. you make me want to be real.”
her heart clenched. no one had ever said something like that to her before, not even aaron.
regina didn’t reply, she just looked at him. his messy hair, the dark circles under his dark brown eyes, the half smile on his face that made everything feel less terrifying.
then she reached up, her fingers softly grazing the 'R' on her necklace.
he playfully whines, taking her free hand into his. “don't tell me you're thinking of taking it off.”
“i won't." she said, voice steadying. “for now, if anyone asks, i’ll tell them it stands for regina.” her eyes meet his. “but i'll tell people what it really stands for.. eventually.”
rodrick looked at her like she was an angel sent from heaven. “yeah.” he said quietly. “i know.”
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
that night, regina sat on her chair, infront of her mirror, wiping off her makeup.
the whispers and gossip at school would die down eventually. they always did.
she looked at her reflection. mascara smudged, hair undone, eyes soft like a doe.
she thought of rodrick. how he's probably in his basement banging on his drums until his parents' eardrums bled.
they weren’t perfect. they weren’t even supposed to make sense.
but somehow, in all the lies, they’d found something real.
and for regina, that was enough.

regina george didn’t get sick.
at least, that’s what she told everyone. flu? no. allergies? never. hangover? over her dead body.
but the truth was sitting right there on her nightstand: an untouched glass of water, cold medicine still sealed, and a half eaten popsicle melting into the wrapper.
her phone buzzed under the pillow for the tenth time. she groaned, pulling the blanket higher over her head. her throat hurt too much to yell, her hair was sticking to her forehead, and her voice? god, her voice sounded like sandpaper in a blender. if anyone saw her like this, she’d simply die.
which, naturally, was when her mother’s voice echoed from downstairs.
“regina, sweetie? you have a visitor!”
regina buried her face in the pillow. “tell them i died!”
ignoring reginas pleads, june was already walking up the stairs, her heels clinking. she appeared in the doorway with a bright smile, followed by the last person regina expected. well, almost.
rodrick heffley stood there, clutching a grocery bag and grinning like he’d just broken into a palace.
"it was nice of you to let me in, mrs. george." he said. "thank you."
“oh, of course! regina’s been feeling awful. you’re sweet to come by.” her mom gave him a knowing smile before heading downstairs.
regina groaned. “you told my mom you were coming? that’s, like, social suicide.”
he grinned. “relax, she loves me. said it’s nice to see someone take care of you for a change.”
“i hate this.”
“yeah, yeah.” he set the grocery bag on her desk. “made soup, got some cough drops, and a coke. they were sold out of diet, don’t kill me.”
“you didn’t have to come." she muttered, trying to hide how red her nose was.
rodrick plopped down on the edge of the bed. “you didn’t answer my texts for twelve hours. i thought you were ghosting me.”
“i was sleeping.”
“same thing,” he said, eyes flicking over her face. “you look terrible, by the way.”
“finally,” she rasped. “someone's honest”
he smiled, a little lopsided. “well, i can’t let your ego rest even when you’re sick.”
regina coughed into her sleeve, but she was smiling too. “you’re lucky i'm too weak to throw something at you.”
he opened the thermos and poured soup into a mug. “eat before it cools down.”
she hesitated. “you’re being awfully domestic right now. i’m not sure how i feel about it.”
“just say thank you, princess.”
“...thanks.”
“see? didn’t kill you.”
regina takes the mug from his warm hands. the soup was comforting, a bit bland but not like she can taste anything anyway. rodrick leaned back on the bed frame, tapping playfully on the comforter.
“you weren't ever supposed to see me like this." she mumbled.
he hums. “like what, exactly?”
“like all gross and sweaty and…”
“still hot though” he interrupted, smirking.
“rodrick.”
“what? i'm serious. you could be a- i dunno, a worm? and i’d still think you’re hot.”
"you're so stupid." she giggles softly. rodrick reaches over and brushes a strand of hair off her forehead. his hand lingers for a moment.
“you’re burning up,” he murmured.
“yeah, no kidding.”
“want me to stay?” he asked softly.
regina blinked. “you’d really stay here with me? while i'm like this?” she asked sarcastically.
“oh, trust me. i've survived worse."
she giggled weakly. “you’re gross.”
he shrugged. “it’s part of my charm.”
regina leaned into his touch, her voice small. “you don’t have to. really.”
“regina,” he said gently, “you know i’m not going anywhere.”
she felt like melting into the bed on the spot. how casual he said it, how comforting. she rolled her eyes, but he just leans further down in the bed, gently pulling her closer to let her head fall on his chest.
they stayed like that for a while, her breathing becoming slow and even while his fingers began tracing absent circles on her arm. plus the occasional head kisses she would receive from him.
“you’re comfy.” she mumbled, half-asleep.
“yeah, i get that a lot.”
“no, you don’t.”
he chuckled. “no, i don't.”
regina paused. then, muffled against his shirt: “don’t tell anyone you came over. i'm.. glad you did though."
he smiled into her hair. “only if you don’t tell anyone i made soup.”
when she finally drifts to sleep, he reaches behind him and turns off her annoyingly bright lamp. he kisses her head a final time. light, careful.
her mom peeks in an hour later and freezes. regina was asleep, curled up under the blanket, and rodrick was beside her, an arm around her waist and one behind her head, snoring quietly.
june just smiled and closed the door again.
inside, regina stirred, half asleep. “you’re snoring." she whispered.
“shh,” he mumbled. “rock stars need their beauty sleep too.”
she laughed softly, nestling back into his chest. “love you.”
even though he's half asleep too, he smiles. “love you too, princess.”

ZOO WEE MAMA
i love women who are kind for no reason. your soul is just as pretty as your face.
