Open Starter: Finally

Perry smiled, her clipboard hugged firmly to her chest. It was all done. The decorations were placed, the food was ready, the lights were hung. People milled around and danced to the music playing through the speakers. The stage was set for the live band and the countdown. It was perfect.

She hung towards the back, just watching. Her date was around here somewhere, but she wanted to take a moment to take it all in before she went searching. The fact someone asked her a question didn't register in her brain, until she noticed them staring at her expectantly. "I'm sorry, what'd you say?"

Lilith was having the time of her life. She'd never seen a party so elaborate. It was beautiful - and she just had to find the person responsible.

Throughout the night Lilith became acquainted with a few people, making new friends (specifically a witch and a bean sidhe) and trying new things. Eventually she spotted an eerily familiar girl in the corner, pointing. "Hey, I think that's her!" The gorgon and her small group made their way over with smiles on their faces.

"Hey, aren't you the one who did all this?" Celestia asked.

"Anywhere that isn't here." James barely looks at her as he brushes past.

Lilith stopped where she stood. Then she clenched her fists and ran up in front of him, putting her hand out to stop him.

"First of all," she said firmly, "you do have friends. I consider myself your friend - or at least I would like to be. But if you leave, I'll never get the chance to get to know you. And second of all, I know what that feels like. Okay? I-I spent years not having any friends because everyone always left when they found out that I'm half gorgon. But did I let that stop me from trying to make friends anyway? No. Because when I saw you upset, I knew that you needed someone, and that I was going to be that someone."

She looked up at him, trying to hold back tears. "So please don't leave."

Lilith squeaked in surprise, blinking. "What? James, no! You can't leave!" She ran after him. "Oh my gods please slow down I'm too short to keep up with your tall person walk!"

James keeps walking, keeping up his brisk pace as she yells after him, shrugging. "Why not? Everyone leaves me! What does it matter if I'm the one doing the leaving or not?"

Lilith caught up with him, continuing to walk much faster than her normal pace to keep up. "Because leaving doesn't change anything. It just hurts the people you're leaving behind who care about you." She paused to take a breath. "Like me. I know we don't know each other very well, but I think you're really cool, and I care."

James sighs, lying back on the ground. His thoughts swirling around his head. He’s not sure he wants to get attached to anyone else, maybe he shouldn’t have let the other join him.

Lilith smiled. “Nice to meet you, James.” She looked up at the sky, laying down beside him with a sigh. She pointed up. “Look, that cloud looks like a dog!” She giggled. “Isn’t nature just awesome?”

He sighs and doesn’t respond, still staring at the sky. Why was this perky girl trying to talk to him and point at cloud shapes?

Lilith hummed. "You know, I love looking at the sky. Makes me wonder about all the things that are up there. I've only really seen pictures of the constellations. I don't know much about space."

“James Hawkins, Jr.,” he can at least be polite, closing his eyes momentarily, before opening them and looking back up at the sky. Daytime sky is all right. He’d rather it was later, though.

Now more than ever he just feels homesick.

“Yep, welcome to the party. She sent us all back to the Isle, put the barrier back up, and made everyone in Auradon forget we were actually allowed over there, stole Maleficent’s scepter to do it. That’s why I’m here. We need everyone on board… everyone here has something they can bring to the table, whether or not they realize it yet. And we’re gonna need every bit of help we can get if we’re even gonna have a chance.”

“Hey, easy, if I wanted something done by now I’d have done it well before you noticed me. I’m just looking for help. The Mafia’s trying to recruit everyone to the same side to get back off the Isle and combat Audrey and what she’s done to both us and Auradon.”

Stephanie sighs.

People suck. Talking is awkward. Socializing is painful. Crowds are too much.

And yet, here she goes anyways. Looking for the harder-to-get kids. The ones they didn’t have backup plans for. The ones that sometimes, only she even knew how to find. The loners, and the ones who hopefully she either could convince to rebel or were already rebelling against their parents.

Hooray. When she spots somebody she’s quick to approach. “Hey, got a minute?”

Lilith wandered the halls. This school was big. Much bigger than her last one. She’d expected it to be easier to find her way around (after all, she had the map for Skyrim memorized), but here she was, struggling to find one classroom.

The gorgon took a breath. Don’t let yourself freak out. Just breathe.

She decided to walk up to someone and ask for help. She looked around, settling on a boy near her. She gently tapped his shoulder. “Excuse me? I’m new here, and I can’t really find my way around yet. Can you help me?”

Chase turned as someone tapped his shoulder, grinning at the girl and nodded his head. “Oh, sure!  I can help with that!” Chase exclaims, smiling happily. He was always willing to help someone in need.

“I’m Chase Pines.” He introduced, holding out his hand and smiling at the other. He was attempting to hold back his flirting. He was normally spouting off lines but he was serious about Harmony and didn’t want to mess it up.

Lilith was nervous. No question about it.

They'd set up the meeting when Lilith had just found out she'd be going to Auradon Prep. Her and a gaming buddy. She was excited, yes, but also nervous. What if he didn't like her in person as much as he did online?
