So things have kinda chilled out a bit and I've started writing again...
Buuuutttt... it's not NSOM😅😅 I don't know why, but i just can't muster up the strength to start on the next chapter.
Anyways... I'm sure I'll find the inspiration to hop back on it, but until then- here's a small snippet of a new story I'm working on called "Our Broken Family" (might change the title later. No sure yet.)
Short synopsis: Ezra is the spoiled rotten son of Dr. Jackson Hart, a world-famous neuro surgeon who lost his wife during childbirth. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts to raise his son on his own, Ezra becomes a self-centered brat who always gets what he wants. Though that might all change when Jackson decides to adopt the twins Simon and Owen and put Ezra in charge of taking care of the "traumatized brats". Maybe some responsibility will do him good.
WARNINGS for this story: will contain incest, sex between underaged characters (14+), and questionable morals. Probably not a lot of people's cup of tea, but yall know what I'm about🤷♀️
“Dad! I'm going out with Jake tonight!” Ezra's voice rang from the top of the stairs as the teen raced down all while pulling his long, straight hair into a loose ponytail.
Ezra's outfit for the night was a declaration of war against the norm. The sheer purple crop top left little to the imagination, while his high-waisted jeans and steel-toed boots added a rebellious edge to his already androgynous look. His shoulder-length hair that was normally dark brown was now a stark shade of white that matched his pale complexion. Something he'd decided to do on a whim.
One thing was for sure– any person with eyes could tell the boy was gayer than a fruit basket.
As the eccentric boy beelined for the front door, a strong arm wrapped around his middle and pulled him back before he could reach for the handle.
“Woah! Hold on there kiddo! We need to talk.” His father said, putting himself between Ezra and the door.
His father, Dr. Jackson Hart, was a commanding presence in the house. With his salt and pepper hair and sharp jawline, he looked like he could have stepped out of a medical drama poster. The mansion they lived in was a testament to his success, a sprawling labyrinth of opulence that was often more lonely than it was comforting. Their grand home seemed to be a constant reminder that no matter how much wealth surrounded him, the one thing Ezra craved since he was little– that being his father's time– was in short supply.
The teen let out a sharp yelp when he was pulled back and gave his father an annoyed look. With his eyebrow raised and arms crossed in front of chest, Ezra stomped backwards and huffed angrily.
“Talk? Right now? Can't it wait until I get back? Jake's waiting for me outside, dad.” Ezra said with a whine. His father sighed and shook his head.
“No, Ez, it can't wait. Frankly, I'd rather you not go out with that boy at all– especially dressed like… that.” The older man gave the teen a once over and shook his head disapprovingly before sighing and shrugging it off. “But that's not what this is about.”
Jackson rested his hand on his son's shoulder and gently led him over towards the couch, motioning for the boy to sit. Ezra did not follow this silent command right away. There was an awkward pause that seemed to stretch for an over extended amount of time before Ezra finally gave in and sat down with a huff. His father clicked his tongue at the boy's defiance, but he didn't say anything and simply sat down beside him quietly. Ezra gave the man a strange look, expecting his father to scold him.
“This must be serious. What's going on? Did someone die?” The teen mumbled nonchalantly as he started to idly card his fingers through his ponytail.
His dad sighed and removed his glasses to rub at his tired eyes.
“No- well, yes, technically… Someone I work with was just killed in a car accident a few days ago. Both her and her husband passed away.” He said with a grim expression. “Their two sons were with them, but thankfully they survived; though they're pretty banged up.”
Ezra's eyes widened as he whistled loudly. “Damn… That’s rough.” He whispered under his breath.
His father nodded in agreement.
“The boys, they don't have any other family. No aunts, uncles, grandparents– nothing. There's been talk about putting them into foster care, but they're twins for god's sake! If they get separated, it could be devastating for them.”
Something about the way he said that had Ezra looking up at his father with a look of suspicion.
“...Right, yeah, awful– um… Where are you going with this, dad?” He asked carefully.
With a loud sigh, the man looked up at his son and smiled.
“I've decided to adopt them. In about a week, you're going to have two new little brothers.” He said much too cheerfully than Ezra thought was necessary.
The teen laughed nervously. “Ha, yeah, good one, pops. What's really going on?” Ezra spoke with slight desperation laced in his voice.
A firm hand was placed back on his shoulder.
“Ezra, this isn't a joke. Those boys need a home. Together. This house is big enough for two more people. They're going to stay here with us and be part of our family.” His father ushered in a calm voice.
Ezra scoffed and shot up off the couch to stare down at his dad in disapproval. “You barely ever have time for just me! How do you plan to take care of two little kids?” He demanded.
That earned him a genuine wince from the older man.
“Son, you're right– and I'm sorry for not always being there for you. But those kids need us, and if we work together–”
“We!?” Ezra quickly interrupted. “Uh, no way! I have a life, dad! A boyfriend! You can't just stick me with two traumatized brats! I'm not fucking babysitting for you!” He yelled.
His father stood up to be eye level with him. “Ezra, watch your language! And you're only fifteen for Christ's sake! Will you please think about someone other than yourself for once–”
“This isn't fair!” Ezra screamed, interrupting the man again. “I never asked for this! You decided to adopt two kids, so you should be the one who takes care of them! You can't just spring this on me and expect me to just go along with it!” His face was growing red from yelling and his fists clenched so hard, his nails practically bit into the skin of his palms.
A loud slam echoed throughout the large house when his father beat his fist atop the wooden end table beside him. Ezra flinched and took a step back.
“You…” The man seethed. “You are a spoiled brat with no consideration for anyone but yourself. I've let you get away with everything and gave you whatever you wanted since the day you were born. The least you could do is show a little compassion and help me with these poor kids who have just lost everything. This is not up for debate.”
Ezra appeared to visibly deflate as his father spoke. Tears gathered at the corners of his eyes and threatened to spill over at the harshness of his words.
“You– you can't-” Ezra stuttered, sniffling a few times before reaching up to wipe at his eyes. “You can't talk to me l-like that…”
The older man's hardened expression softened at the sight of his son's tears. He let out a sigh and extended his arms to pull the teen into a strong embrace.
“Hey, kiddo… I know, I'm sorry for getting upset like that. But you need to work with me here, ok? Everything is going to be fine. Just help me look after the boys for a few weeks until I find a nanny to help take care of them.”
Ezra looked up into his father’s kind face and blinked a few times to get the tears out of his eyes. He seemed to be lost in thought for a few seconds before a deep frown appeared on his face.
But before Ezra could begin to protest, Jackson quickly offered up something that would keep his mouth shut.
“If you do this for me, I'll buy you a car.”
That seemed to do the trick.
The teen's frown was immediately replaced with a wide grin, and all the sadness in his eyes seemed to disappear in an instant. It was like someone had flipped a switch in the boy's mind.
Ezra squealed in delight and wrapped his arms around his father's neck, pulling him down to plant a kiss on his cheek.
“Yes! Deal! Thanks, daddy!” Ezra said in delight. With that, the boy was out of his fathers arms and running down the driveway in excitement.
Jackson could faintly hear Ezra yell “Jake! Guess what!” as he raced to the busted up red sedan parked in front of their home.
The older man tsk'd lightly, following behind his son to shut the door.
“This boy, I swear…” He muttered under his breath as he began to walk back over to the couch.
(Still a wip, but I'm looking forward to this one! Stay tuned~)
